101  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 25, 2018, 06:06:36 AM
Even the Weiss rating bullshit from today kind of demonstrates that either smart people do not understand bitcoin or they are purposefully engaging in misleading behavior...

How the fuck do they give Ethereum a B and bitcoin a C+ and Dogecoin a C...   Makes little sense, except that they are making shit up, and in the end, the fact that some of us can see through the bullshit, we are going to continue to invest in bitcoin and we will profit from such ongoing better than others insight.  In other words, some folks are going to get mislead by the bullshit that ended up coming out of the supposedly objective and professional Weiss rating system.
Calling this little piss ant ratings corporation smart people is beneath you JJG. Market makers and big money sent way more qualified(and discrete) individuals out to check out bitcoin long ago. Any claim by these people is suspect imo. I mean for crying out loud these are the same pond scum that caused the recession. While not exact its of the same tainted lineage.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_rating_agencies_and_the_subprime_crisis

The fact of the matter that bitcoin is getting a grade at all..let alone a C+ is absolutely amazing as far as I am concerned. I mean..think about it..this is the coin associated with mtGox..SR...numerous hacks ect ect.

What do you know about this "piss ant ratings corporation"?  Nothing, I would judge from your comments.  Say what you want, but Weiss and his father were pretty much the only honest ratings company to pick apart bank financials for years and years.  To top it off, you link to a wikipedia posting that has nothing to do with Weiss Ratings and instead focuses on the big-boy, for profit and ongoing business relationships, rating agencies, i.e., S&P, Fitch, Moody's.

If you want take shots at Weiss, quote from their analysis and point out why you think they are dead wrong.  Weiss ratings did not 'cause the recession' and they are definitely not part of the "tainted lineage" of ratings agencies that you refer to.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: January 25, 2018, 05:21:06 AM
Yep can't wait till Sia forks.  Bitmain does whatever the hell they want for there own self interest without talking to the community , Sia should do whatever the hell they want also that's in their best interest without the need to discuss to the community.  , They should have just forked it before the A3 bricks arrived.

This type of thinking is what will limit Siacoin growth.  Don't you want Siacoin in as many hands as possible to be as widely distributed as possible, to grow as much as possible?  Think of how many people this brought to the Siacoin community.  Think of the stabilization and decentralization this brings to the coin.

If the devs fork the coin to brick the A3's, it's only out of spite because Bitmain beat them to market with an ASIC.  It's a bit hypocritical to say you don't want an ASIC mining the coin right now when the devs are soon to release their own ASIC to mine the coin.  Makes no sense if you want a decentralized coin.  If they fork it to resist the A3, then isn't it becomming a centralized/controlled coin?  I think that's the opposite of what they want it to be.

Bitmain has centralized farms/pools for bitcoin, litecoin, dash, and now Sia.  Enough is enough already. Open your faking eyes

Sia's decision to break this monopoly is a good thing and shame on you wannabe decentralized miners for not supporting the Devs for fighting against Bitmain dominance.

Sia has to Fork and control the Sia coin to fend off aggressive Bitmain.  If it takes some coin centralization to do this then so be it.

If you don't support Sia Dev's don't mine their coin!

I support the overall project's goals, and have for some time.  But this latest bit is sheer lunacy on the part of the SIA dev team.  If SIA intended to break a so-called monopoly, it should have brought a better product to market much faster than Bitmain.  It did not.  Whose fault is that?  Either they were intelligent enough to foresee the risks involved with bringing their own ASIC to market and they took a gamble, or they are incredibly short-sighted and out of touch.  There is no good explanation for, no positive way to spin, their reaction to Bitmain.

I've wondered for some time whether SIA would take off or not.  I mean, if you look at total available space to rent vs. actually rented space, there is an apparent problem with getting the word out about what their project is about and what it can do.  How about focusing on that aspect instead of bitching that because you are an also-ran ASIC designer, that must mean that competition is not fair?

Edit:  And consider this -- no one forced the SIA team to publicly announce, months before they had a product ready to ship, that they would be coming out with an ASIC miner.  If they wanted to surprise Bitmain and own this corner of the market, they should have kept their mouths sealed shut until they had product ready to ship out.

Any idea when these ASICS will be released?

we are forking it away FROM ALL ASICS INCLUDING OBELISK  Cool bwaahaha

Why need to run away from ASICS mining? Those with GPU who mine earlier have earned enough and is time for them to hodl while waiting for the price of Sia to go up.

I see that many are requesting to fork away when their coins are mine able using ASICS. For example, pascal, pascal lite, lbry and including this one. I don't see any bad to mine using ASICS, they paid a lot of upfront for the machine and will soon contribute in to your coins' blockchain. Why reject them?

With the ASICS too, I think the price for your coins will go really up high very soon. Don't you like that?

me personally i'm all for ASICS ~ however i'm working with the siaberry team who deals with the sia contracts that power the sia network and make it unique in crypto..they are totally opposed to bitmains' power grab..also wtf who does pre-orders in 2018? lol Smiley i'm not buying that these asics are helping the little guy...

Bitmain's "power grab"??

I'm sorry, I must have missed the story where the SIA dev team was granted a monopoly over ASIC miners by the Trump administration.  Could you provide a link to that?

then they should brick their asic miners too?

if they are "decentralized" they cant just fork because bitmain crashed their party imo

Your point is valid on a zoomed in viewpoint. All miners should freely compete for coin to mine.

I would argue that in the bigger picture Sia is doing their job by breaking up centralized asic mining. So allowing their obelisk to stand a chance to enter asic competition, Sia forking is nessary to support more decentralized asic manufacturing and jobs right in the USA.

Decentralized miners don't mine on large pools. It's healthy to  break up the big pools

If your a true decentralized miner you should think about Supporting the fork. If your in it only for the cash. Keep on buying bitmain and support their toxic centralized asic ecosystem. I know I will and never proud of it. But they are the only game in town unfortunately.

Enjoy your $500 a day mining profits. You earned it and really supported hard working  Sia devs(cough bitmain). As for the Sc1 folks they will enjoy their bricks and what's left. The rich will get richer with centralized asic mining

What???  The SIA devs promoted the nonsensical view that ASIC mining would be great for their coin, and healthy, and double-plus good.  In what alternate universe could you ever think that you, and you alone, would be the only possible developer to come out with an ASIC miner?  SIA wants centralized ASIC mining, only they want to be in control.  Bitmain beat them to the punch, end of story.

Sia short term centralized ASIC mining is a needed in order to make ASIC manufacturing decentralized.

Sure.  Keep telling yourself that.  By the way, if you really want to support the SIA project, why didn't you set up a boatload of storage space and offer to rent it out at incredibly below market prices?

Support me on the decred redit. Let's push the decred community to soft fork to defend itself against the obelisk dcr1 miner. The SIA development team have proven themselves untrustworthy. Who knows what they will do with all that decred asic hardware?! They will probably 51% attack the network! I heard that they sold 1 million miners!

https://www.reddit.com/r/decred/comments/7st4fw/obelisk_51_attack_is_coming/

OMG, and here I was thinking your banner was funny.  One MILLION OBELISK MINERS SOLD???!  You, sir, are clearly a shill for Bitmain, or off your meds, or your sense of satire is sublime.  Pick any two.

This coins difficulty is going up higher than the ETH difficulty even

https://siamining.com/stats

compared to

https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

Those who haven't received their ASIC yet must be really feeling it every 30 mins that the difficulty adjusts higher and higher.

Yes, yes indeed.  It is torture.

This is an interesting coin however I had bigger expectations from the audit. Face it, literally the only "positive" thing it mentioned was a sandwich phrase saying that the "basic mechanisms are quite robust" but after that it is all just hammering a large number of specific negative points, some of which do not correspond with the whitepaper.

I understand that lot of us hold bags but can we please be a bit more realistic and not sell this report as a great success?

I think you misunderstand what an audit is used for. An audit is made to find bugs in the software before it goes live! The idea behind an audit is to make a software product more secure and better. And exactly this is what the audit report did. It revealed the weak points we have to work on. And as you can see we already improved most of the findings.

Excuse me, but the audit focused on your current wallet release, which definitely is "live".  That is stated pretty clearly in the first few pages of the report.

Well, the code that was audited is live on github and this is the code for the coming live-wallet release. This code was audited not the current wallet which operates the live-net.

Ah, okay.  So the current wallet/enigma platform is even *more* out of date, and presumably exposed to even more attack vectors, than your latest-greatest recently audited version.  Do I have that about right?

+1 for the audit.  But there is a clearly a lot of work remaining.

Awesome stuff is going on here, awesome audit report!

I applaud the audit, but how many people actually read it?  Stand out items:  no mathematical analysis performed on involved cryptographic algorithms and methods (outside the scope of the audit); Cloaking transactions with few cloakers can be traced, both sender and receiver; reliance on out of date bitcoin and Tor code; random number generator doesn't really work for enigma transactions; source code analysis found multiple instances of reliance out out-of-date and unsafe methods, transaction history stored in an unencrypted format.  Compromise of Anonymity is flagged as a current "high" severity risk factor on cloak transactions with, say, three cloakers.  It is susceptible to a DLL preload attack; page 17 describes the issues resulting from using old and out of date Bitcoin code base; page 20 addresses how the Tor code is out of date and vulnerable to a list of exploits; page 21 several functions found in the source code which leave Cloak vulnerable to buffer overflow attacks.  You can't back up the wallet using the currently accepted best practice of using a seed phrase.  I'll stop there.  To the people that are saying "wow!" I ask again:  did you read the audit report?

The Cloak team replies to a number of these identified shortcomings by simply stating that in the future an upgrade of the wallet software will address these issues.  I hope so.

+1 for the audit, but it seems there is still quite a bit of work to be done to make this world class.

I've always wondered if its a great problem to just have multiple psu and possibly they start at slightly different times but they are all powering the same system.     So say you had alot of hard disks and you put them all on one psu and the other psu powers the rest of the system.   Is that ok to do without it causing a problem and same for the cards, why not just just 1 psu for a bunch of cards and 1 psu to power the motherboard and any other requirements.

Is a graphics card really not ok ok to split the psu load because some of the power is coming from the slot / riser cable and that has to be exactly synced to the 8 pin power cables.   Im thinking its really not a big deal but I dont especially want to test it and blow up a perfectly good setup or damage it slightly every time its rebooted.  Maybe plug all psus into the same multiple socket extension and its almost dead on (psu age in their capacitors so it would vary some).  More I think about it, Im sure its fine Im just paranoid  Undecided   But why do people pay so much for >1000w psu, theres definitely a premium.

Its one of the myths that needs to debunked maybe

I've done this for a long while and it works well for me, but I expect others will disagree.  I use one PSU, typically an ATX to supply power to the motherboard, SSD is plugged into motherboard, and maybe the same ATX PSU powers one or two GPU cards.  Then I use a server PSU to supply power to the remaining GPUs -- both the riser and the card itself.  When I need to turn off or on, I turn on server PSU first, then ATX; when turning off, I power down ATX first, then the server PSU and yes I do that manually.  Server PSUs are cheaper.  This way both PSUs never go beyond about 50% 60% of their rated limit, which means they should be running more efficiently.

Weiss and his father performed independent financial analyses on banks for many years.  They were conservative in their appraisals, and by that I mean that didn't count squishy items like "goodwill" for very much.  They published their own "Weiss ratings" for thousands of banks.  You could check on any single bank you were interested in, or subscribe to their service.  They sold the business but I guess the son still speaks on behalf of the business.  It was a legit business so this interests me.

Looks like they're in-stock again!

IF they were ..they are gone now Smiley (not interested...but watching)

3 min from your post above ..that has to be a record IF it was not a glitch and a couple unpaid units that pop'd back up

It was no glitch, they were available.  They made some announcement about re-opening sales on the hour to defeat resellers from hoarding the units.

Hello guys,

First I set up one VEGA 56, Cast Xmr, blockchain driver, toggling hbcc on/off, and I get my 1900+ H/s.

Bought another VEGA 56, riser setup, everything identical. As soon as toggling hbcc on/off, artefacts kicks in and everything breaks. I tried 6+ hr every possible setup, reinstallation of drivers as well as windows, I even tried to put it on the separate machine. Nothing has worked. If I toggle HBCC on/of or do disable/enable, that f#$$#$ card just dissapears/stops working, see attached screen.

So at the moment I am running both of it, for one card hbcc on/off works and I get 1900+, for other I can't do anything, it works 1300 H/s

Anyone had any similar issues?

Appreciate any insights,
Alex

I agree with Poop135:  first, disable Crossfire and Ulps in the registry.  Then make sure you are on Windows 10 Fall creator's update (build 1709, not 1507, not 1511, not 1603).

And do visit vegaminingblog by CircusDad if you haven't already.  Also, try disabling the --fastjobswitch option and see if the card runs stable.

okay I am building a rig for a guy using the b250 version 1  onda.

he wants windows. and I loaded windows 10 did the up date loaded nvidia drivers booted and I am at black screen.

pissed to say the least.  any guess at what to do next.

I tried a few tricks but going nowhere fast here.

Hi Phil, I put windows on the Onda B250 you sent me this past Sunday.  I played around a lot changing bios settings, got a black and then a grey screen.  I was connected to an Nvidia card, not to the internal GPU.  I was also connected to the network.  I ended up hitting the clear CMOS button by the 2 USB ports.  That at least got me to the screen where I could enter the bios settings again.  This time I think I only changed PCIe speeds from max to Gen1.  Rebooted, loaded windows from a USB stick, install went fine.   I'll check over the weekend, but I am pretty sure I did not enable the 4G option, which you have to do on Asus Z270 boards.  Can check all the other settings as well and I will report back.

But bottom line, same exact board and Windows is running fine.  For memory I used the G.Skills stick that either you or someone else on here posted the link to NewEgg.

I was surprised to see you can still buy the 7-slot MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon boards. They must have restocked a few following the big demand early last year. I was just able to recommend that board to a friend of mine (against all odds I actually found a reseller that stocked it)...

I have still about 22 of the popular ASUS Prime Z270-A brand new, allocated for a new project in March.

If my group decides to go full riserless for that project, we would let go all the Z270s.

https://www.asus.com/sg/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-A/

That is a very nice board and ASUS has a very fair RMA policy.  The Asus Z370 is now out and was on sale at NewEgg a week or so ago.

EDIT: you mean the temps. Yes the temps I provided are with the top on. Temps were better with the top on.

What about temps compared to open frame with no forced ventilation ?
Did the seller send the case with Delta AFB1212SHE fans ?
Also what is the fan noise compared to the reference or other GPUs  doing 80-100% fan speed .

These enclosed builds have very good temps with the Delta fans.  I've built some Rosewill L-4500s and temps are not a problem with good air flow.

Hashbag.cc is a good pool for DNR as well.

I find that my ccminer stops working with some error if I use Hashbag and I didn't see the same behavior on yiimp.eu.

Have you ever experienced the same thing when mining to Hashbag?

Are you on the latest version of ccminer 2.2.4? You can get it here https://github.com/tpruvot/ccminer/releases and I don't have any problems mining to hashbag. Whats the exact error you get, maybe we can help you and what does your start.bat file look like

Yes, I am using 2.2.4.  Something about an illegal instruction I think, that flashes and repeats in a yellow color very quickly.  I'll try and screenshot it later. -i set to 19 in the hopes that might help.  To be clear, I connect, it mines fine for an hour or so or more and then crashes out.  1080 Ti cards TDP set to 60%, so not pushing the cards anywhere close to the red zone.

Same rig will mine away on EWBF for days and days without issue.

I read that day 13/01 would solve the inconveniences that SC has in bittrex.

This is the publication about the problems that SC has had in the exchanges.

https://www.reddit.com/r/siacoin/comments/7pc5rv/brief_official_update_on_sia_exchanges/
<snip>. Centralized exchanges were maybe necessary for the growth of cryptocurrency, but it’s time to regain control of this crazy train! Komodo Platform’s BarterDEX Decentralized Exchange is being beta tested right now and I’m part of the community outreach team. BarterDEX is a decentralized method of exchanging cryptocurrencies via atomic-swap technology, without counterparty risk. It’s completely free to use, open source, peer-to-peer, and minimal fees (<50% fees centralized exchanges, no double fees). ...

>> BarterDEX protocol (wp/git) >>

<snip>

What do you think, Sia community? Let’s make this happen!

Yes, I agree with the above, I am tired of exchanges and their fees.  And I don't think it is answer for SIA developers to say 'we have not been in touch with Poloniex'.  I've been waiting for two botched withdrawals of SIA from Polo to get fixed since December.  I wrote to Polo support in December, I'm still waiting on a reply.  Obviously, they don't give a crap about me, but I would think the SIA dev team would have more luck putting some pressure on Polo.  But yes, these centralized exchanges that pop up/disappear/disable withdrawals/don't reply to support tickets, I'm tired of it.
