101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to recover btc after windows reinstall on: June 26, 2017, 12:28:03 PM
Just had a preliminary search of the drive using recuva but only let it run for 15 minutes before it was indicating that it had found 10's of thousands of files. Why so many? and what file path should i search rather than the whole hdd. Thanks.

You could search in the app data dir of the user that was logged in.
Alternatively, if you have a second hdd you could restore all the discovered files of recuva to that second hdd and scan for your wallet within these files afterwards. It's probably the better way as the more you do on your current hdd, the more likely it is that you overwrite your wallet permanently.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is declining as top crypto currency. Why? on: June 21, 2017, 10:53:33 AM
I think with respect to the news, the acceptance in stores and so on, bitcoin is still the leading crypto. It is now more a question for the future if we manage to achieve lower transaction fees and faster transaction confirmation processes. Bitcoin definitely has proven to offer the required security and reliability level to be the crypto of the future.
103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Strange bitcoin transaction on: June 21, 2017, 10:45:41 AM
Hi,I have received a bitcoin transaction, but it has been pending non comfirmed for 22 days now,the strange thing,I can't find the tx id on blockchain but the transaction still show up in my wallet, any way to resolve this?

Your transaction did very likely not include a sufficient fee and thus was dropped from the mempool. Your wallet, however, didn't notice it. One way of resolving it would be to rescan the entire blockchain to make your wallet aware of the dropped transaction.
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can you send and receive before the blockchain has downloaded? on: June 09, 2017, 11:50:38 AM
Thanks thats an interesting idea.

Any ideas on the other problem I'm having: How to speed up the download and processing of it? Its using up all my disk and most of the time is not downloading anything.

You could enable pruning mode, this would reduce the required disk space.
The main point if it is not downloading anything is that it is probably already busy with processing the downloaded parts of the blockchain. The client will always check if the received parts are valid. This is CPU intensive.

Does the file /media/genericusername/SB@/home/genericusername/blocks/blk00299.dat already exist? Or is it trying to create it?

107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to find a wallet.dat file that had no extension on: May 30, 2017, 04:02:26 PM
Thanks for this but PoolA seems to be bringing up all sorts of stuff that will make it difficult to test all files in the bitcoin client.....can you think or find something more unique by any chance? Smiley

Ok, that's difficult then. Is it also true for PoolB, PoolC, ...?
What is being brought up there. If I try it, I don't have so many files on my hdd that contain this.
Else, you could try what the posters above said.
108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: cancel transaction on: May 30, 2017, 03:59:34 PM
can we cancel a transaction? i have one transaction and it is unconfirmed, but i made it two days ago, can i cancel it and make again?

The transaction is present in the mempool of the clients. You could just wait until it drops out of these pools. This should happen within a few days, if the transaction stays unconfirmed.
109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lost wallet.dat on bitcoin-qt 0.8.6 on: May 23, 2017, 03:47:57 PM
Hi there, we had a number of bitcoins in a local installation of bitcoin-qt in 2014. Since then, the data directory in the user profile (%APPDATA) has been delete on the PC resulting in deletion of the wallet.dat
If the wallet.dat was encrypted with a passphrase is there any relation to this passphrase and the private key allowing recovery? Is there any where else that this file or a copy may reside?

the harddrive on the computer is now full from re-downloading the whole chain and creating a new wallet.dat file making data recovery near impossible. Have used the public key to scan the chain and this definitely appears to be a new wallet as there are no transactions.

CE

There's hardly any chance for recovery. Especially if you have overwritten the data. The only chance is if you remember that you did a backup, for example using the "backupwallet" command.
The behaviour of the client is normal, it by default creates an entirely new wallet if none exists.
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What (free) linux distribution for COLD storage making? (Security) on: May 23, 2017, 03:31:11 PM
The distribution is not so much important for this, it should work on any.
You could use Ubuntu, Debian or Mint as a start.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old Transaction on: May 23, 2017, 03:23:37 PM
Hi,

i forgot to say that it was an incoming transaction. So i hoped to get those 3 BTC Cheesy

When i use -zapwallettxes the transaction will not be shown again?

Given the fact that the transaction has been dropped from the memory pool, your transaction will not show up again using "-zapwallettxes".

In this case, there is no way for you to restore it, only the sender could rebroadcast it to the network.
112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can a miner help confirm my transaction? on: May 17, 2017, 10:10:24 PM
Yes, it either states ID not valid or states 'Your remaining Customer-Only use: 0 Times'.

Currently, the blockchain is heavily loaded with unconfirmed transactions.

If your free quota is used up, you could try the paid version, to confirm the transaction which HI-TEC99 mentioned:

ViaBTC’s Transaction Accelerator is a FREE service for the community. We also provide manual accelerator service for special cases (dire urgency, extremely low transaction fee etc.) and require a donation of 0.01BTC for each transaction. Please contact support@viabtc.com for details.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $0.85 transaction fee is absolutely ridiculous! on: May 17, 2017, 10:00:36 PM
Am I the only one realizing that ~$1 fee to make a transaction is absolutely insane and defeats one of the core benefits of using bitcoin for daily transactions.

This is getting insane and is completely uncalled for, or am I wrong?

The bitcoin network is just having a lot of pending transactions at the moment. It's annoying for anyone, but it's always an up and down. Let's hope that this load will reduce again.

115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: are these transactions spending from unconfirmed transactions? on: May 17, 2017, 09:16:22 PM

The preceding ones in the first link are confirmed.

In the second one there are some unconfirmed transactions preceding.
116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please help , confirm my transaction ! on: May 17, 2017, 09:11:45 PM
Ok, that's probably because the incoming one has not confirmed, see https://blockchain.info/address/1DdEyz9oo8e1uoxfjtqJjKR8SK8XzyGotk

There is a whole chain of preceeding transactions that have not confirmed yet.
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please help , confirm my transaction ! on: May 17, 2017, 09:05:19 PM
1Dg723VHnm6expTcMoJcnJB2h4wES4TT7C this is the BTC ADDRESS the ID is : d3b19fd3a16706018510d8bb9a4ceef5b7a9974c9370aa57af0640b81c5383c6201
Sorry, just looked at the link.

This is wrong.
From blockchain.info you can see that the actual transaction id is d3b19fd3a16706018510d8bb9a4ceef5b7a9974c9370aa57af0640b81c5383c6
118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please help , confirm my transaction ! on: May 17, 2017, 08:57:51 PM

Hmm, strange. Did you put in the correct id, 1Dg723VHnm6expTcMoJcnJB2h4wES4TT7C
119  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to find a wallet.dat file that had no extension on: May 17, 2017, 08:55:39 PM
You could try search contents for "poolA", "poolB", ...
Or if you have added a label to a receive address, you could search file contents for that specific label.
