+1 Great stuff, more talent checking code = more bugs squashed. Smiley

I'm no programming expert but was wondering, would it be possible for the Darkcoin clones like Spreadcoin that use masternodes to have DRK masternodes mix for them and vice versa for an extra layer of anonymity?

I don't know about that, but I think there's room for some synergy between the two coins, if only being able to run both kinds of MN on the same server, specs permitting, with no extra cost.  Smiley
If something needs to change with the code to make this happen, please let the Spreadcoin dev know.

I have five DRK masternodes and would love to have 5 SPR masternodes without having to pay more for hosting.

I'm planning on it, my MNs currently are only maybe tight on RAM (512MB, currently averaging a bit under 200MB used but some builds have used a lot more in the past) but I can up that to 1GB each if needed at minimal cost, I've got plenty of CPU/bandwidth/disk space to run a SPR node on each one too, and you don't need another IP address as SRP uses a different port.

In the meantime, I have to figure out how to get Amazon to sell their books for Darkcoin or Bitcoin, LOL.  I'm so excited, we're going to put my hubbie's book, really a family project, up for sale on Amazon soon.  I must say I really wish we could sell it for crypto, but they don't do it yet Sad

Can you sell it independently as well or do Amazon want exclusive retail rights?
1005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: December 14, 2014, 02:07:24 AM
Hey, im wondering if i can point a rented rig at Spread?

How would i go about doing this via solo mining?

Thanks

AFAIK, first you would need to find a rig to rent that can mine the SpreadX11 algo - the algo is modified as the block structure is different, it's that difference that inhibits pooling. Then you might have issues with your wallet needing to be accessible on an IP:port that the miner can reach, I think.

Mr Spread, perhaps a change to the thread title to reflect your plans for Masternodes and Darksend might get some more traffic in here? Wink
yes, its a good marketing there are hundreds of darkfans
yeah,changing the thread title can attract more attention. Cheesy
Well, I want to have least some working prototype before such announcements.

Integrity like that will get you kicked out of cryptognat land!  Grin

Marketing wise, no one is going to use a coin named spread.

Plenty of people have said and continue to say exactly the same thing about Darkcoin.

More devs working on the Darkcoin codebase, more users and supporters of the Masternode model = a good thing. It's not like Darkcoin's $20 million market cap has saturated the global market...

And Spreadcoin gets rid of the parasites. Miners actually secure the blockchain, instead of pooling together to do the opposite.

Ok now I got the new address 0 and dumppriv key as well as it is encrypted it and saved the wallet.dat backup. So how can I just dump the address to another wallet (just the address, not the wallet.dat) ?

And how do I get this to a cold wallet?

Assuming you are using the QT client, Help > Debug window > Console > type 'importprivkey privkey' and wait a few seconds. If that's what you're asking?

Thanks man, that is what I was exactly looking for.

My last question. Running the multiple instance of that priv key have any affect on masternodes? Lets say I imported 3 privekey to same wallet, can I use masternode start command? I dont think so, since all will have different conf file, but let me hear it from you guys Smiley

Currently, you are correct - you can only associate one masternodeprivkey with any one wallet.

The new improved start-many will let you have multiple 1000DRK vins per wallet.dat and allow you to specify a separate masternodeprivkey and associated IP address for each 1000DRK lump in a masternode.conf file - hopefully this will be in the next version.

I will start working on integrating DarkCoin features: masternodes and darksend. I will not copy-paste them blindly, maybe I will make a few improvements if possible. After this we will test it on testnet to see how it is working. Once it is ready I will set a hardfork point and make new builds, I want to make this transition flawless. I understand that there is a lot of impatience, people want everything to happen instantly but I don't think we need a rush here.

Since masternodes and darksend work for DarkCoin I see no reason why it wouldn't work for SpreadCoin. If you have any suggestions about how masternodes/darksend can be made better you can say it.

I will leave the names Masternode and DarkSend as is, I don't see any reason to rename them.

Also I want to write a white paper about my changes and original DarkCoin features themselves, current DarkCoin white papers are either outdated or describe only part of the necessary information. I want my cryptocurrency to have a good description about what it is and how it works.

Truly excellent news, and you are right not to rush things. I have plenty of testnet hours under my belt and will be happy to help as needed.  Smiley

Yes, the wallet has to be in server mode for the miner to communicate with it. Hence, 'server=1' line in the .conf file.

okay server mode running the wallet and a browser error 127.0.0.1:41677 {"result":null,"error":{"code":-32700,"message":"Parse error"},"id":null}
Spreadminer  running and not accepted shares

The Nvidia miner needs Compute 3.0 or above capable cards, I couldn't mine with the 720M in my laptop. What GPU are you running?

Nvidia GT 730 desktop PC

According to https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus your GPU is compute 3.5 capable so if you're compiling from source you can specify that, see my post here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=715435.msg9717026#msg9717026

If you're running the Win binary I have no idea, sorry, I don't use Windows. Maybe tsiv can help?

Congrats to the extended team - this community is amazing!!!!

Also we just hit over 1400 MN's -  lets get to 1500 by christmas!!

Total Masternodes: 1402 = 1402 actives + 0 inactives

I've had at least one hundred ready to go live for a while now, but am traveling until Sunday, I'll be importing the priv keys & firing them up on Monday if all goes to plan Tongue

When the incrementing MN reward structure was announced there were about 950 MNs and I predicted 1200 MNs by Xmas. I am happy to have been completely wrong.  Grin

Your 100 MNs out of 1500ish should bring you about 1700 DRK/month to begin with.  Shocked

How to solomine nvidia card?

There are links to the Nvidia GPU miner widows binary and the source if you're running linux at the bottom of the first post of the thread. Either download the win binary or compile it, and run thus:

spreadminer -o http://127.0.0.1:41677 -u rpcuser -p rpcpass (obviously replace 127.0.0.1 if your wallet is running on another machine)

You need to have your wallet running and the following lines in your spreadcoin.conf file:

Code:
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
listen=1
server=1
daemon=1

Hi
    I just logged on to a p2p node that I have not used for weeks and found these readings for my user/wallet address,,, What i don't get is WHY is there 6DRK still in the balance?? and why did the whole 6 DRK remaining not get paid to my wallet when i finished mining at the node ??

Balance: 6.42256279 DRK
Transactions in: 255
Received: 21.30664051 DRK
Transactions out: 170
Sent: 14.88407772 DRK

Cheers

Edit,,, I don't even understand how a balance like that get's there I thought the node just pays every share or whatever in small amounts therefore never accumulating a 6DRK balance anywhere

There is residuals after you stop mining...

Yeah I see that but who do they belong to ?

cheers

Months ago I started getting p2pool payments when I wasn't mining on p2pool, I saw all these transactions in my wallet and had a panic attack thinking I'd been hacked, until I realised they were coming in, not going out. Someone must have put the wrong address into their miner startup line. Sadly it didn't last long.

 I've got the biggest balls in the entire crypto land.  Tongue

I lost 50BTC doing that a few weeks ago.

Well, my initial stake was 2BTC and I built it up to 50BTC so I'm pretending that I only lost 2BTC   Cry

ouch. how long did i take to build up the 50 btc?

About 1 hour.  I have no idea how I did it.  I was lost in a horrendous click flurry.  Seriously scary how you can just find yourself clicking away as if it isn't real money.  I do know that on one occasion I accidentally placed a large 10% bet and won!  I started off carefully and ended up barely even concentrating.

£500 lost.  Could have been £12.5k gained.

The house (and maths!) won.  I definitely lost.

Some of you people need help.

Hope this helps spark debate and intrest if nothing else...!  Grin

Walter
Nice write-up Walter! I would like to point out a couple of differences between masternodes and stocks/bonds/certs.of deposit etc. In each of the above cases the money invested is still flowing in the economy. It is simply the investor who looses access to it in exchange for a hoped for return. In the case of a stock or bond the holder has a promise while the issuer has the cash and proceeds to use it to buy goods and services. Those who provide the goods or services now have the cash and the flow proceeds. In the case of "savings accts" or certs. of deposits, the funds are loaned out and used to create even more funds on a fractional reserve basis, thus further "greasing the wheels of commerce" and paving the way  for societies collapse as the new funds are loaned into existence WITHOUT creating the interest which must be payed back. In any case, unless the funds are kept as cash in the equivalent of a mattress (and losing value to inflation), the funds continue to flow, while the initiator no longer has access to them, and must wait some time before seeing them return to his/her ability to spend them.

Masternodes on the other hand extract existing (or newly created) funds for services rendered in exchange for keeping funds out of circulation. There are a number of subtle trade-offs being made here, the most notable of which is present return in exchange for present restraint in spending. (A side benefit is the reduction of the likelihood of various forms of attack.)  Unlike stocks, bonds, or savings accounts, there is no commitment involved, and the funds may be immediately spent with NO penalty. Saving in this model is deflationary, as opposed to the inflationary saving of fractional debt based economies. Not only do masternodes work in an anti-inflationary manner they encourage savings as they lead to the accumulation of an appreciating asset in addition to simply holding an asset expected to appreciate. This works against the pump and dump cycles so prevalent to this point, and serves to cause the currency to appreciate in value as opposed to inflating. At the same time the fundamental utility of DRK as privacy protection and point-of-sale utility will work to drive it into circulation as adoption increases thus limiting the effects of hoarding.

This latter benefit will become more pronounced as the lack of privacy inherent in Bitcoin becomes well known. At this point in time, Bitcoin has only three raisons d'être; privacy, international transfers, and hoarding in hopes of appreciation. With the first removed, the second becomes doubtful, leaving only the third. Sadly, it quickly becomes a case of hoarding something nobody wants; values fall, and then fewer wish to hoard.

The promise of Bitcoin has become blunted as the mystique of privacy has been peeled away by advances in monitoring and blockchain analysis. It seems that its value proposition is now based on the hopes of deep-pocket Wall Street tycoons who would not invest such large amounts without expecting a return. That return of course, is based on the promise of States and their Banks (better said Banks and their States) providing safety through regulation. Hence in coming days I expect we will see some very nice and profitable boom and bust cycles with Bitcoin, accompanied by the loss of its fungibility. The States and Banks will continue to decry its use as a tool of criminals, while at the same time rounding up hoards of drug dealers, pedophiles, and tax-dodgers (who should know better), while the larger criminals continue making profits and eliminating their small-time competitors.

Sorry, I have wandered far from my initial purpose. I am tempted to delete much of this post, but maybe somebody will find my droning interesting.

Peace to you all,

Strix

Quoted excellent post in case Strix decides to delete any of it.  Grin

And I can guarantee you that every single one of the '2.0 fancy financial instruments' type coins will fail horribly, just as what they are based on is failing horribly. The last thing a cryptocurrency needs is to try to emulate the insane voodoo that drives the traditional financial sector and is driving all but the 1% ever deeper into poverty.
