1001  Economy / Speculation / Highest price ever on seven day average on: February 22, 2013, 11:32:54 PM
We passed through the highest price on a one-hundred day average ages ago and now we have broken the highest seven day average price.  It shouldn't be long until we reach a new all time new high for bitcoin.  IMO the new bubble hasn't even started yet properly if this is just a bubble.

1003  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sorry to inform you, the current rally is over now... or very soon. on: February 20, 2013, 01:50:36 PM
The chart below shows the current total value of all BTC that have been produced (sometimes called "market capitalization")
Please look closely at what happened last time the value shot up so fast.
Common sense tells us the current rally is over, sorry.

Please sell your BTC at the nearest exchange and wait for a much lower price.  Cheesy

The gradient is not as steep on the second curve so if it is correlation we haven't even properly started the bubble yet but I agree with the above post correlation and causation are different things.

1005  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying Ripple XRP for Bitcoin on: February 16, 2013, 11:32:08 AM
I am told XRP isnt supposed to have value of its own as such.

If it does, going on your pricing the developers just created 1,000,000 BTC worth of XRP. Of which they hold/control pretty much all of it right now.

What did i miss?

1) create a bitcoin fork with all coins pre-generated
2) give out 50% for free, to entice users.
3) sell the other 50%
4) HUGE PROFIT

I would like to see an answer to this by someone knowledgeable?

1.5% is fine for small tx's but when you want to send >BTC50 you really ask yourself is this worth it?
1007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Ripple is a bad idea. on: February 16, 2013, 10:09:48 AM
OpenCoin Inc gets 80 billion ripples.

The founding developers get 20 billion ripples.

There is a hard limit of 100 billion ripples.

in other words, opencoin inc is comparable to the federal reserve. Go beg OpenCoin Inc for some ripples, you need them to even start using the service  Tongue

Wow! I had NO idea this is how it was going to work. When I received my 10,000 coins, I was like, "GREAT! that should be enough to get most of my friends involved." For weeks now, I've been rather excited about the idea of Ripple and how well it could compliment Bitcoin. But, I didn't realize that I'd be contributing to the prosperity of the OpenCoin Society and their honored members.

I have nothing against this model or the reasons behind it, I was just completely unaware. I plead ignorance. Is this information public anywhere, so that I may read and better understand their philosophy moving forward?

thanks,
s.

How do you get 10,000 XRP I only have 411 and can't send any to my friends who want to test it.  This is my wallet - rJAJuQLVp8JJaCfP3hT7ZCrVMRTFNYQcHi - and this is one of my friends who I can't grant any IOU's too or send any XRP - rqXLcc5EUZpMihsJ6c4C6H3pm7CSxcf7B - I have other friends too I'm trying to get to test the system.
1008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Ripple is a bad idea. on: February 12, 2013, 12:51:04 AM
Joel ripple is your site? If so where can I get an explanation of how it works and if i like it how can I help?
I'm one of the people working on it. There's lots of explanatory material in the wiki: https://ripple.com/wiki

I think the concept behind Ripple is infinite rehypothecation. If someone accrues enough IOUs, then even if many of them are worthless, they all average out. It presupposes that bad debtors will not themselves aggregate enough Ripple points to matter to the system and will be weeded out. It makes sense if we presume that social pressures will determine the average value of Ripple tokens.  It's a numbers game that needs to be based on social science. I would really like to see the algorithms that go into determining the risk and value of the IOUs, but I have a feeling that this will not be forthcoming. If they are not absolutely revolutionary algorithms, then we are looking at a system that will be easily gamed.

I think the algorithms behind Ripple will make a quant blush.
Ripple IOUs are just balances, just like a bank balance. If you have a bank balance of $50, that means your bank owes you $50. For me to pay you $50, I give you a check. The system processes that check and then my bank owes me $50 less, your bank owes you $50 more, and you consider me to have paid you $50. Most likely, you would only hold your bank's IOUs, so the only worthless IOUs you have to worry about is if your bank fails.

Ripple will fail because of the same reasons Diaspora failed.

I think DIASPORA* is far better off being run as not-for-profit and/or as .eepsites or .onion for the Pods as well.  Yes it needs a lot more development but just because the original foundation couldn't run at a profit doesn't mean DIASPORA* is dead or dying.  It's opensource and will be around as long as people use it

1010  Other / Off-topic / BlackBerry trials BBM Money service in Indonesia on: February 11, 2013, 01:03:14 PM

BlackBerry is preparing to pilot a person-to-person mobile payments service within its BBM instant messaging system in Indonesia.
The BBM Money commercial pilot will let users access an account from their smartphone and make real-time payments from within the messenger app to their contacts who are also signed up to the service. Customers will also be able to buy mobile airtime credit and transfer money to bank accounts.

Having secured approval from Indonesia's central bank, the service - developed by BlackBerry with local financial institution PermataBank and AGIT Monitise Indonesia - the pilot is now imminent, with a full launch expected to follow.

Darren Sugden, CEO, Monitise Asia Pacific, says: "It is incredibly exciting that Indonesia is the first country in the world to develop a person-to-person payment service such as this. This launch is a ringing endorsement for how businesses with different commercial needs can collaborate in the fast-growing mobile, payments and banking space."

Monitise today posted first half revenues of £27.8 million, up 63% on the same period a year ago, although the firm also saw losses widen thanks to its recent acquisition of Clairmail and heavy investment in its platform.

Thanks, its up to the main I2p dev's and organisers if this qualifies for the bounty but I think it should if it works but I don't know a lot about it yet.  I don't think its a fork but that's as much as I really know?

1014  Economy / Speculation / Re: so... how long till we pass the old high of 32? on: February 10, 2013, 07:27:22 PM
If the price of bitcoin goes to 32 dollars..... do you really think that if the price crashes again people will let the price go down as far as it has knowing that it has proven it can rise that far not once but more than once? I don't think so. If a crash happens I don't see it as being drastic. Of course it could be wishful thinking. But I'm happy whether the price goes down or up personally. In fact I would almost rather it go down so I can buy more bitcoins.

I too think there wont be a massive violent crash like 2011.  I don't think we're going <$20 ever again or not very far and not for long.  Tho that's just my speculation and maybe hopes too.
1015  Economy / Speculation / Re: The bitcoin and amazon merger on: February 10, 2013, 07:18:29 PM
Why would they buy bitcoins before they started accepting them?

If they bought 1 million bitcoins at $20 (and somehow prevented that causing a price spike) and then announced they would accept them, then the price might jump to $100.  Then they could sell their coins for $80 million in profits.

There is some risk about it though and it might not really be worth their while.

Lol $80 million in profits is nothing to a company the size of Amazon. One of their shipping facilities probably costs that much a month to maintain. This idea would be stupid and a complete waste of time. And them buying up a virtual currency with only intrinsic value would probably cause their stock price to drop; based on the fact that Jeff Bezos would have to had developed a severe case of autism to have done something this stupid.

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/01/29/amazon-profits-take-a-dive/

Corporations like announcing a loss as it offsets there corperation tax.

There is a I2p bitcoin app/fork being developed - http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/18684y/bitcoin_has_a_i2p_darknetdeepnet_port_proxy/ - there is also a large bounty for its development.
I haven't tried it yet, but if i understand right, our guys already have this going on:

As matthewh3 said, we need to go dark. Because no matter what, some people will always take bitcoins (unless the fatal flaw in system is discovered) for exchange of something. IF the services and infrastructure is created and secured before SHTF, we have a huge advantage. If not, USD price of BTC will fall near zero for sure, but will recover after some time on black market.

1020  Local / 中文 (Chinese) / Re: Need help with Chinese TL-WR702N want English firmware will pay on: February 09, 2013, 01:50:23 PM
Hi I have a TL-WR702N, all the instructions are in Chinese and so is the firmware.  I would like help to install the English Firmware and I will pay in bitcoin or shares in my mining company RSM - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63257.0 - Thanks  Smiley

I know both Chinese and English. What may I help?

Well I can get the device to work and enter the settings page for the device on the different Chinese IP address compared to the English version.  What I need to know is how to change the Chinese firmware to English firmware.  Maybe I could email you a screenshot of the Chinese setting page I think is about firmware update.  I have downloaded the latest English firmware to my Xubuntu PC and uncompressed it but I don't know how to flash the device.

Please check PM

Thanks, replied.
