The op -could have a good power deal. He could be short $$ to expand to 4-6 cards.

Me I have a great power deal and tons of power.  Way more power than gear.

I have 1 mega watt if I want.

But that's a big push.  I do have 400kwatts ready as I type with under 130 kwatts used.

I am going to mine and stack $$$ along with some BTC.

It is not a hobby any more it is a small (going on medium business).

After making back the half price I bought two GPUs I decide to sell at even a higher price, I bought two gtx1660 ti for 300$ each and I've made 150$ per card and I sold them at 400$, this is a neat plan I believe but a friend told me it doesn't make any sense, my plan is to wait for bear market and buy back the gpu at even cheaper rate, at least I made something out of the cards.

Is this a stupid plan or not?

So you paid 600 mined 300 and sold them for 800 am I correct?

that means you have 1100 for 600 or a 500 profit.

You plan on holding the 1100 and hope for a crash so you can buy cards.

I think you made money and if you can hold it maybe you can buy a cheap rig.

this is a good thread and may mean your plan is smart.

well bitmain has decided to confirm its godlike asic eth miner.

so it does 3300 mh
it uses 2800 watts

compared to the s19pro it crushes it

as

3300 watts doing 110th in btc is far far far less then bitmains e9

so they will set it for a long preorder and use the cash for months before they release the gear.

this will in turn get innosilicon to maybe send out some of its gear for eth.

10168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Eth Pow algo isn't going away anytime soon on: April 25, 2021, 09:35:53 PM
But profits are taking a hit.  Hash is rising and price is falling, might start to get rough.  More asics with a reward reduction is going to make eth a lot less profitable.  Unless you can get cheap ASICs with cheap electricty I wouldn't add any new hardware.

cheap power works until bitmain floods the market with its 3300 mh miner. pulls only 2800 watts.

this answer why the eth hash rate has kept up as it crushes the s19pro in $ per dollar.

The issue is we tend to run with what we know for where we are.
Where I live I can have a 100A singe phase run to my garage, or any other run that is outside of my main panel. Nothing else. So that is what I went with what is here.
If you can have something different then that in a residential setting then yes the answer will be different. I also assumed garage was a home garage not a commercial one.

@maxilauri Also, don't just listen to what is said here. talk with more then one local licensed electrician. Some may do things that are not up to local code and come back to bite YOU later. Even if your State / county / city allows something a local town might not.

good point.

my street transformer shared with me and my neighbors.  sends me

a ground
a hot 1
a hot 2

hot 1 is about 121.0 in winter low demand

hot 2 is about 121.7 in winter low demand

and if I wire 240  I go to 242.7

every year I drop as low as 237 and go as high as 244.

I never ran enough power to trip my mains.
10170  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will drop to 20k is not time to buy btc now on: April 25, 2021, 03:32:20 AM
Buying BTC now is extremly risky. This is a bubble what we see now.  Soon the prices will drop to 20k then buy BTC.
But now is not the time at the end of the bull run.
Can you share with me from which factors you concluded that Bitcoin will drop to $20k, please.

Forecast, prediction, speculation are all non sense and zero value if you don't show reasons behind yours.

Quote
Soon we'll reach good point to buy at 20k btc this good price.
now is high price i wouldn't put 60k on btc.
When will you predict Bitcoin drop deeper to $10k or $5k?

Quote
but is good time to buy altcoins that can make you x2-5x
It can be correct but please note that not all altcoins will give your profit. Especially if you invest into Moon-DeFi or Moon-NFT tokens. They have been overhyped and not safe to invest.

Old altcoins can be one of best options from now till the end of this year.

even if he is correct proper investing is dca.

Thanks

 Your tx has been accelerated.

How do you manage to submit transactions to viabtc accelerator? It is always going on timeout or submissions are going over limit for me

It is a very tight window.

  00:59- 00:01
  01:59-02:01
 02:59-03:01
03:59-04:01

on every hour.

so 24 chances in a day and only 100 each hour in that small gap of time. which is more like.

ten seconds maybe 15 seconds not 2 minutes.

and very likely you are competing against thousands of people.

Many times it takes me six or seven hours to get the tx picked up.

and you can accelerate tx c that is depending on tx b that is depending on tx a

but you need to do the first one which is tx a

then the second one which is tx b

then the third one which is tx c.

To do a three layer one it can take four days.

There have been  some reports  of psu fails  when volts drift above 243-246

Have you seen any more anecdotal evidence of PSUs failing with a voltage spike above 240v ?

I have been having problems with equipment at a colo (they have been dropping like flies) and the site has also been having significant electrical issues

No new info but I finally lost 1 psu about 2 months ago.

Our major issue is we drop to 190 from 220-227.

It has over amped a few psus. 1 Avalon died 1 s17 died 1 s15 died.  I had spares.  I now have 1 s17 spare and no other spares for the new gear.
10174  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 32% drop in the value of shares of Coinbase after the fall in the price of Bitc on: April 24, 2021, 10:21:11 PM
I think the fact that their team sold a lot of their shares is more impactful compared to the crypto market price. It feels like they're trying to blame the market instead of a bunch of people who clearly dump their shares and make some nice profits.

Is this is general practice in IPO that that team behind is the first one to dump their shares? Or this is the first time that we have seen this happened? In not the first case then we shouldn't blame the people behind Coinbase as this has been generally practice in the IPO industry.

And I don't see any correlation though, could be a coincidence that the whole market is really bleeding as investors is selling their shares and bitcoin holdings like pan cake due to negative news.

Many sell 25% of their holdings for tax purposes.

Depending on how the shares are acquired they could be taxable. At the 400+ price they were when they received them.  So holding all the shares could mean you owe tax on 400 and the asset is now 200.

This is a micro managed fud thread. Wait 2 or 3 months and then talk. Not 2 or 3 days.
10175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 100A 120/240 Electrical panel; how many miners can I use? on: April 24, 2021, 08:42:02 PM
That will be one miner per 15 Amp circuit.

So 20 miners total? Electrician installed 20 lines

Did you see that I said 7 rigs in my next message,
just like DaveF said.

7 rigs is the max. in your setup, with that panel, 120V, and those rigs you described.

The rest 13x circuits will remain empty, because you have already maxxed the 100A panel.
I don't know what your electrician has been thinking (or if he even put any thought in to it) when he created that system with 20x 15A circuit, with 100A panel.

You were also explained the math here, so I don't know how you think you could put 20 rigs there.

Well 120V * 100A * 2 poles =24,000W

Let's go 80% max load to be safe. Round it to 20,000W

20,000/1300W =15.38

Lets round it up to 16 as miners dont all pull 1300.

a nice try on your part.

it all depends on the main breakers.

I hove 2 hots and a ground coming in.

each carry 120 volts and each are attached to a 150amp breaker as I have 150 amp service.

but the breaker is tied together.

So the question is do you trip at 150+150 = 300 amps

or do you trip at 150 amps

in your case you are saying the 100 amp breaker is not linked

so your service is more like 100+100 = 200 at 120.

BTW. lets say the main breaker works as you say.

110 x 200 x .80 = 17600 /1300 = 13.5 rigs

or 6 on each pole

assuming that the mains will work like you think it works.

ie 100+100 =200 total
vs 100

using 110 is better than 120 since  voltage sag happens in hot months.

Also make very sure you have this balanced and the loads are on each pole the same.

good luck as I think it should be interesting to see if you 100 amp breaker handles 100 + 100 = 200 amps.

10176  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: April 24, 2021, 08:29:59 PM
Meh.  If China has a coal problem, maybe they should look in the mirror.  Export power generation Coal prices are up form the bottom of the pandemic but not that high either.  They hate Australia's policies on China and are engaged in economic war with them.  Probably a soft ban on any Australian coal imports I guess.  I think the coal issue is a big load of bitcoin cash.  A -15% diff dip is pretty crazy with the prices we have, even with the dip.  We shall see.  Maybe the issue is more about those chinese miners making bank and the central authority feeling the grasp of control loosening.  Kinda like the ongoing story with the tech industry.  Who knows, its a very opaque industry.  And a very opaque government.

I like to ask the following question:  What is worth more :  The loss of revenue from shut down miners (5-10m?/day) VS the "artificial" increase in fees paid (5-8m/day?).  Maybe shutting down miners doesn't cost as much as expected...

Good question.  Since bit main cut 3 huge cloud deals and supposedly 1 of the clouds is affect more than the others.

The sacrifice of turning off gear makes the other cloud setups do better with btc.

To go deeper.  Hashnest is the affected cloud they are apologizing to customers.  So maybe just maybe they are passing some of this onto the customers and as you say the other clouds are getting better fees.

viabtc is paying

Avg. Daily Earnings 0.00000665 BTC/T (≈PPS 124.76%)

they were at 111%  before this drop.  So as a miner I am gaining on my viabtc payments

124/111 = a factor of 1.117 to one.  This means my newly mined btc is worth more like 56900 than 51000
10177  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How much money is enough money? on: April 24, 2021, 07:48:31 PM
I read the question and the answers.

The tangent question to this is how much is time and health worth?

I am 64 My wife is 65. We get along.  If you offered me 30 years more time to be with her and for us to be really healthy for those 30 years I would pay quite a bit for that.

Since no one seems to be selling those 2 items time and health my need for big money drops a lot.

I know what we have.
I know what our fairly  certain income streams are.

So if I have 7 million usd tax free dropped in my lap with zero questions asked and no strings attached I would say I do not need any more than that amount.

I would want 2 homes not 1. 450k
I would want 1 car and 1 truck not just 1 car. 50k tesla truck
I would want a vacation spot in Canada or way Upstate New York a basic cabin with some land.  200k
I would want a nice sized ground mounted solar array giving me 1 megawatt of power at one of the homes. 2.5 million. This translates to about 160kwatt for free 24/7/365 I could run a lot of miners with that.

that is 3.2 million. I would hand over 3.5 million to the wife. leaving me 300k to play miner with.
10178  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin now officially on sale buy the dip and hodl on: April 24, 2021, 07:30:08 PM
People saying that Bitcoin is on a bear market:

People saying that Bitcoin is still on the bull market:

The first picture is what a lot of people are saying about Bitcoin is "finally" in the bear market but what they are looking at now is an hourly chart for Bitcoin which means that what you are seeing right now is just the small movements of Bitcoin from a short period of time. The second picture is the daily chart of Bitcoin in which you will see that Bitcoin is still on an upward trend. The hourly chart of course is something that can't determine if an asset is either bullish or on a bearish market cycle as it is just showing you a smaller trend compared to what the longer time frames is showing you. 20% drop is really meaningless as even in the stock market there are stocks in which moves by 20% but it doesn't mean it is going bullish nor bearish.

The problem is that threads like this do not have any consquence to the creators.

Bitcoin's coin has had a good rise in price since October. Yet there have been many threads that say bear bear bear.

I say buy the dip while you can and Hold Hodl Hodl
