10201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who pulled the plug on Roger Ver's and Jihan Wu's blockchain spambot? on: January 30, 2018, 06:11:31 AM
A lot of the Signature campaigns are now asking people to switch to SegWit addresses, because the transactions are much cheaper on SegWit. The Signature campaigns are one of the feeding sources for Bitcoin  in a much bigger Bitcoin ecosystem.

A increase in SegWit adoption will cause a reduction in Legacy Bitcoin transactions, so these guys have to increase their cost to spam the Legacy MemPool, to have the same affect as before. <It is costing them more money to spam the network now>
10202  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: January 29, 2018, 06:36:56 AM
Just curious. How many people have deposited a large amount into Freebitco.in and are using the daily interest on that money to buy Lottery tickets and to play the Multiplay BTC option?

Their daily interest is not that attractive to risk my bitcoin to store in online site. So I never deposit money in this site but got an account and claim few times in a week to buy lottery tickets.

without having to solve even one Captcha.

I never deposited money into this site but still, my account doesn't show me captcha to log in. Don't know the exact reason but guessing that I had few very active referrals long back and I used to earn some Santoshi from those referrals every week. I used those free coins to play their hi-low game but not now.
I don't think there is any risk in depositing money in freebitcoins, it's the best site that gives interest and is legit so one can freely deposit money and plus they even credit account with fork as and when ever they happen. I don't buy lottery tickets never got lucky buying them lol. As per the captcha is concerned it's shit and sometimes it disappears, google captcha sucks and it should be replaced, i had suggested them alternate captcha so they could even monetize them and no i'm not even referring to solvemedia. The hi lo game people win it on luck i never play big on it.

As of now they may not be having any intention to scam anyone but in future anything can happen. There are few examples already we have seen like big exchanges closed suddenly and many people lost their money. So my take is I don't want to risk my money just for a small percentage of profit. But it is up to individual to make their final decision.

Oh well, $200 is not a Bank breaker for some   Roll Eyes people and the site is sitting on a cash cow at the moment, so I doubt that it will close down for a few thousand dollars. <they might be tempted for a few million>  Grin

I am also not attracted by the low interest, but rather that I get some interest on bitcoins that would have been getting zero interest in a paper wallet and not having to convert back to fiat to get a higher interest.

The possibility to hit the Jackpot without having to spend my own coins is also a very attractive option. ^smile^
10203  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Request - Offline app to sweep Paper wallets? on: January 29, 2018, 06:01:52 AM
Before you want to close the thread, you should consider why I opened it :

1. I want a offline method to do this. <with encryption when you go online>
2. I want a easier method for newbies to do this. <Nice GUI interface>
3. I want to sweep everything, not just move a percentage of the coins.

These days, with all the free coins that needs to be claimed from the forks, we need a fast and easy and safe way to do this. I use a lot of paper wallets and this is becoming a issue with all of these forks. ^grrrrr^

Previously Codewrench explained standard accepted practice of air-gapped offline computer, where private keys are never exposed to the Internet.

Are you referring to the risk when private keys are placed in new-coin-wallets for purposes of retrieval of those coins? Because this is a process of importing the private keys, such that they stay the same. "Sweep" usually refers to the reading of key into a new key in a wallet.

Since every new fork is unique I doubt there is every going to be any GUI interface that makes all cases easier for newbies.

My standard practice with forked coins and paper wallets is the following.

1. Importing Paper wallets to a new Bitcoin address <moving them away to keep them safe>
2. Taking old Paper wallet and using whatever forked wallet to extract the FREE coins.

So yes, even if every fork is unique, you still have to move those coins to safety, before you risk using that paper wallet on some new fork wallet.

you need app that grabs private key in offline and after that in online it launch
Code:
bitcoin-qt -server (as standard process)
bitcoin-cli importprivkey ... (as console-pipelined process)

latter may work just with detached console

This is too complicated for the average Joe out there. We need to hide that in a nice GUI for granny to be able to do this.
Even technical people struggle with this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2838191.0
10204  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: First Successful Physical Purchase Transaction on Lightning Network on: January 29, 2018, 05:51:37 AM
It's not the first transaction with LN. It has been successfully used last month with Bitrefill to top up the mobile of someone.
It has been like instant and without fee used. You can try lightning payments with Bitrefill if you want https://blog.bitrefill.com/test-instructions-lightning-on-bitrefill-ef6db8714b00

Bitcoin was like that, fast and free whilst being used by developers and students but then look what happened with
fees so good luck if you think banking hubs will keep it like that because history tells me they won't

You again with your negativity. Who says the Lightning Network can only work through Banking hubs? Please give us the source for this implementation. If someone says the "Hub & Spoke" model is ideal for the implementation, then it does not mean that it is the only method. <Where does it say that all hubs would be Banks?>

You are deliberately spreading FUD on the forum and this is quickly getting old now.

NOTHING stops you from opening private channels between parties or even merchants, if both parties consent to it and multiple alternative routes can be followed to it's destination. <You are not forced to go through specific Hubs>
10205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Something bothering me about the Lightning Network on: January 29, 2018, 05:42:44 AM
Thanks you two. This illustrates how the uninformed can be influenced by fud.
But ya, Ill read that whitepaper carefully.

Yes, the Bitcoin competition will hear something and then they will run with it. Someone would mention that an ideal implementation for the Lightning Network might be a Hub and spoke model < The spoke-hub distribution paradigm is a form of transport topology optimization in which traffic routes are organized as a series of 'spokes' that connect outlying points to a central 'hub.'> and then people will think that it is the only way that the Lightning Network would be able to run.

Most people forget that people can still open direct channels with other people or merchants, so it is not the only way to implement this.
10206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What you think, Is bitcoin change our way of thinking? on: January 29, 2018, 05:25:58 AM
I would like to believe that Bitcoin is cultivating a saving culture and opening up commodity trading to average citizens. Bitcoin has thus far been a excellent store of value, and this makes it ideal for a "saving" and investment tool. So instead of spending a currency, you would rather hoard it, to gain some profit.

In these times people spend like crazy and go into huge debt with Fiat currencies and credit cards. ^grrrrrr^
10207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Governments let Bitcoins and Crypto World survive? on: January 29, 2018, 05:21:19 AM
What choice do they have? If they ban it, it will just go underground into Dark markets or people will transfer their bitcoins to relatives in other countries, where Bitcoin is legal. Bitcoin is also decentralized, so they cannot just stop a single centralized server to shut it down.

If I was a government now, I would just regulate it properly and welcome the extra taxes and also innovation that comes from this technology. ^smile^
10208  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-01-27] Ethereum is Now “Just” $80 Billion Away From Overtaking Bitcoin on: January 28, 2018, 08:20:59 AM
Ethereum has so much trouble at the moment with their scaling method and also with their node syncronization and yet, people are still buying it. I think most of this interest is purely speculation and because Ethereum is the second cheapest coin, after Bitcoin.

To think Ethereum was marketted as a "Smart Contract" solution and when the scaling in Bitcoin became a issue, it quickly changed strategy and started to market Ethereum as a alternative for Bitcoin as a currency. ^lol^

10210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Chinese Bitcoin Buyers Are Getting Around Government Ban on: January 28, 2018, 07:43:29 AM
Not saying that they are doing this, but I would get a contact in another country and transfer the bitcoins to that person to sell or even relocate a family member or a whole family to another country to do this for me. <This way, zero taxes will go towards my country, because they do not want to support my technology>

Some are rumoured to use Localbitcoin for person to person trading. ^smile^
10211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is privacy ? Why does it matter on: January 28, 2018, 07:20:11 AM
Privacy will become more important, when it is taken away. A lot of governments are trying to infringe on their citizens privacy for their own hidden agendas. They target their own citizens, to keep them in power. <Examples : Stopping donations to WikiLeaks to prevent people from exposing government corruption>

Your financial privacy is also important, because the wealthy are targetted by hackers and these corrupt governments. <In some countries, wealthy people are even targetted by their own countries>  Angry
10212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen IF the Lightning Network succeeds? on: January 28, 2018, 06:52:45 AM
from what i understand, you don't need SegWit for Lightning Network!
in fact LN is like a smart contract which is working based on 3 technologies that exist in bitcoin:
1. multi signatures technology
2. CheckLockTimeVerify BIP65 and CheckSequenceVerify (OP_CSV) BIP112
3. Hashed Timelock Contracts

what SegWit does is that it increases the security of Lightning Network, for example by doing the transaction malleability fix. and makes LN much less complicated.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqbQJ82Hf0s

in fact what i am looking for is implementation of LN on other altcoins, which will definitely happen for those already having SegWit. and with that we will have Atomic Swap and we can soon start moving on from centralized exchanges to decentralized exchanges using Lightning Network! fast, free and with no way of scamming.

I just figured most Alt coins will implement SegWit before they implement the Lightning Network, because LiteCoin did, but thank you for highlightening that detail, well spotted. ^smile^

Alt coins not doing this, will have to concentrate on other stronger features like anonymity <Dash & Monero> to carve out a niche market segment for them.

If other Alt coins add this, Bitcoin has to add something else to get the edge over their competition. I hope the Bitcoin developers are already thinking of the next step in the roadmap for Bitcoin to stay ahead of the pack.

It could just be that they are not satisfied with the level of your anonymity or that you are located in a area where they get a lot of Bot attacks. You should increase your deposit to test if that would remove your Capthas. <just a temporary test>

If that does not work, I would suggest that you contact them via the "contact us" option on the website and request some more detail on the requirements for the Capthas to be removed.

Mine was removed and it is back again, so I reckon it was just a parameter that was increased. <So before this was adjusted, we qualified and then it was increased and we did not qualify anymore>
10214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What will happen IF the Lightning Network succeeds? on: January 28, 2018, 06:14:22 AM
For many years now, everyone has been fighting over the best scaling method for Bitcoin.

Some traditionalists reckon that Block size increases is the only way to go, and that Bitcoin should not be a payment network, competing with PayPal and credit card companies. <They want it to be a store of value, like Gold>

Others believe that Bitcoin should be a replacement for these centralized payment networks and for that to happen, it has to be cheaper and faster than it's competition. <PayPal / Credit cards>

Let's say the Lightning Network succeeds as the ultimate scaling solution for Bitcoin and it goes mainstream. What would the impact be?

1. Will other Alt coins <like Bitcoin Cash> also add SegWit and the Lightning Network, levelling the playing field once again?

2. Will PayPal and Banks develop their own Blockchain technology with Lightning Network or just buy their way out of trouble, like they did with Ripple?

3. Will Governments come down even harder on Bitcoin, if Bitcoin becomes more mainstream?

4. Will the traditionalists abandon Bitcoin and support other Crypto currencies where Block size upgrades are still used? <Following the supposed Satoshi vision?> Will those Alt coins still be able to compete and eventually survive?

These are just some interresting scenarios that needs to be discussed. Should we find a way to bring all these groups together or should we just allow them to drift apart?

Let's discuss.
10215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin Die because of global Regulations? on: January 28, 2018, 05:53:19 AM
Government are definately in a panic mode with the introduction of Bitcoin into their financial system. It is suddenly not that easy for them to stop capital flight, because Bitcoin is borderless.

Bitcoin is also pseudo-anonymous, and this opens up a whole can of worms with a lot of criminals using this technology for criminal purposes. <Examples : Child Porn / Money laundering / Funding drug deals etc.> These things are unstoppable, because people will just find other ways to do this. <like switching to cash or stolen credit cards, like they have done for years>

The only temporary solution is strict regulations for Crypto currency use. <KYC/AML regulations>
10216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ICO][ANN] Moonlite - Large scale, green crypto mining ICO on: January 27, 2018, 09:07:42 AM
I am so glad I found this project by clicking on one of these signature campaign members signatures, because I seldom browse through the Alt Coin / ICO's section Roll Eyes

I have been searching for a project like this for a long time and have found a home at last.

I signed up immediatly after reading the white paper and figuring out that this is the real deal and not just another faceless ICO. <There are so many of them>  Angry

Good luck guys, I hope this one will be the one giving the Chinese a run for their money. ^lol^
10217  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: January 27, 2018, 08:24:16 AM
Just curious. How many people have deposited a large amount into Freebitco.in and are using the daily interest on that money to buy Lottery tickets and to play the Multiplay BTC option?

Why do you have to solve thousands of Capthas to get almost no Satoshi, if you can deposit a bunch of money to get that for Free too? < You currently get about 21 Satoshi/daily for a $23 deposit >

If you used the FREE BTC option for about 8 hours a day, then you would need about $200 to get the same amount of FREE Satoshi from this site per day, without having to solve even one Captcha.

Alternatively, you could buy Lottery tickets with those Satoshi. Just a thought, play around with it.
10218  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Scaling bitcoin: the elephant in the room on: January 27, 2018, 07:35:52 AM
1) There is still an LCR rule for selecting the branch with the largest cumulative difficulty.
And how will you send your transaction if there are another 100500 users who have more 100500x times hashrate than you?
It will be very complicated quest to send coins in your network Smiley
"Run you PC for a week or buy an ASIC device to purchase a cup of coffee"  Grin

Because you can chose your own difficulty. Miners who are in it for the money, as they are in bitcoin, can mine with maximum difficulty. End users like you and I can chose a much, much lower difficulty because we don't expect to earn anything, we just want to send a transaction.

The difficulty was brought in to prevent one "bad" actor with massive amounts of hashing power to mine all the blocks for himself and also to adapt to the technological improvement of processing power. So as soon as there are a massive spike in the total hashing power, then the difficulty will adjust to balance things out.

The difficulty is one of the core principles of the protocol. ^smile^
10219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the complete anonymity and decentralization of bitcoin good or bad? on: January 27, 2018, 07:13:31 AM
When Satoshi created Bitcoin, it was not meant to be a commodity but rather a alternative Peer-to-Peer electronic cash system. People started to add third party services, where you could trade Bitcoin as a commodity or as a currency on exchanges. <So this was not the original use case>

You cannot stop people from making money and using this technology for other purposes. It was given to mankind to use and to improve their current systems. <How they use it, is up to them>

So your friends are blaming the technology and not the 3rd party services that was a spinoff of the original idea. <profiteering>

People were supposed to use Bitcoin between two parties with no 3rd parties inbetween, but these services saw a opportunity to make money and they created these services for that purpose.
10220  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries that accept bitcoin payments on: January 27, 2018, 06:47:39 AM
You will find that the countries most apposed to Crypto currencies are those countries with weak local currencies or dictator/police state countries, where politicians wants full control over their citizens.

Bitcoin is borderless and decentralized and not under the "rule" or authority of a single entity and this is a threat to them. <Their citizens are not allowed to have that level of freedom>
