10241  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-20]Craig Wright Inadvertantly Admits He's Not Satoshi Nakamoto on: October 21, 2017, 12:55:11 AM
I reckon him, Roger Ver and Jihan Wu are out there to sow confusion on the unaware public as bitcoin becomes bigger and more far reaching. They will keep pushing for bitcoin cash as the real bitcoin, and some people who have no understanding of what is happening and the history behind it will believe it us the real bitcoin supported by Satoshi Wright.

I think the Bitcoin Cash window of opportunity has already been and gone. It has no media attention. It's just another alt. No one beyond the BTC echo chamber has any interest in it and they're the ones who'll drive adoption, not the people inside it.

In time Mr Wu and Mr Ver will become historical footnotes.
10242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The reason why I hate BITCOIN on: October 20, 2017, 10:43:01 PM
There's a strong chance you're going to end up really, really, really hating altcoins when Bitcoin shakes off all the doubt they fed so successfully on and slaughters all but the worthiest of them.
10243  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-10-20]Former Yunbi COO: Blockchain Startups Will Vanish In China on: October 20, 2017, 09:36:16 PM
I wasn't aware that there were any blockchain startups in China. It seems like a totally stupid place to attempt to do crypto business and that's long before the shutdown. The Chinese government hasn't let anyone use crypto for any type of commerce since 2013.
10244  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin regaining dominance. on: October 20, 2017, 09:18:25 PM
It'll be interesting to see how this is going to play out. In 2013, and making the comparison is silly but what the hell, alts had a rally after BTC. However this time around alts have gone bleedin' insane for years on end while Bitcoin has done nothing at all until now.

Alt valuations are now absolutely huge and they still haven't delivered on a shred of their supposed promise. What the fuck has Dash achieved? It could be major flippening back to BTC that could either be permanent or last until there are more alts that are actually more than empty pumping.
10245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Investment regrets! on: October 20, 2017, 09:06:24 PM
Of course I could've wound up with 10-50x more BTC if I'd timed my moves perfectly, especially with alts. Also I could've wound up with nothing. It's pointless thinking that way.

You want real regret? Be one of the people reading this thread in 5-10 years. Sorry, suckas.
10246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are You in Favor to Register Your BTC Address to Trace Transaction and Tax??? on: October 20, 2017, 09:03:57 PM
Depending on where you live Bitcoin is being taxed right this very second. It's the users' job to tell the tax man about their huge profits and it's the same in virtually every other area of life too.
10247  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Most supportive cryptocurrency countries. on: October 20, 2017, 12:42:25 AM
Definitely not Russia and I wouldn't nominate anywhere in Scandinavia either. They've had some very silly tax treatments along with exchange banking problems. And others I've heard nothing about.

Japan is the only country that's truly cemented crypto's legitimacy. I'd say Switzerland is the runner up. There are a lot of companies based there now and some cantons accept it for tax and fine payments.
10248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the best coin for beginners to start trading? on: October 19, 2017, 11:51:30 PM
Go for coins that have low volume. Since you are new from the scratch, you don't need to undergo serious trade at the moment. You must learn and familiarize how trading works before going on actual trade. Don't worry it will not consume your time much and you can start live trades thereafter.

Try to play with the non serious trading experience at Yobit. There are low volumes coins there which is obviously as cheap compare to 1 pc. regular candy. You must be familiar on the exchange itself.

I don't rate that advice in the slightest. No one can learn anything from low volume coins as anyone can do anything to them at any time. Their movements are basically meaningless.

Total noobs shouldn't have anything to do with trading. All they'll do is hand their money over to better traders. They're better off buying and holding and spending time observing.

There are also test trading platforms like this - https://testnet.bitmex.com
10249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin from Investment to Daily Purchases & Uses on: October 18, 2017, 10:24:13 PM
I wouldn't say this is true about the early stage of bitcoin, as we've pas through the early stage by a long shot now. As the early stage would be the first time it was invented and used, by Satoshi himself.

Bilge.

Walk on to the streets of any city anywhere in the world and ask every person you come across whether they own and use Bitcoin. As a rough guess you'd be extremely lucky to find one person in several hundred or thousand.

People who spend time in echo chambers such as here receive absolutely no objectivity about the wider world. We think everyone's into it. Nothing could be further from the truth. We may not even qualify as early adopters yet.
10250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia is turning the nuclear power plant into mining field. on: October 18, 2017, 10:12:25 PM
I just read up more on the RMC and can now see watch Russia's direction is with this. My only question is why the Russian central authority is so interested in BTC mining.
The RMC buy in was huge. Most individuals (Russian citizens) weren't able to oartake in it, so it can be assumed that the majority who did were the wealthy and government officials. If so, my question is what is their end goal with becoming a mining powerhouse? What's in it for them?

I've read that Russia has a huge excess of power generation and their power is super cheap. Mining crypto is certainly an excellent use of a resource that would otherwise go to waste.

However they need to make up their fucking mind about whether they love crypto, are executing every single user, creating their own, or legalising it. Nothing the authorities are saying has a shred of consistency so they're not going to attract any miners until there is.
10251  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can a Crypto stock split? on: October 18, 2017, 09:46:47 PM
It doesn't have to. All people have to do is mutually agree to change the nomenclature and away we go.

Getting them all to agree to it all at once is going to be impossible of course and it should've been done a long, long time ago.
10252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin from Investment to Daily Purchases & Uses on: October 18, 2017, 08:49:01 PM
Something has to become a trusted store of value before it becomes a widespread currency. That's doubly important when the only thing Bitcoin has is trust. There's nothing else to back it. Bitcoin's still a wild speculative bet. If it becomes big enough then maybe the store of value aspect will be awarded to it as it's so enormous the volatility is largely quelled.

That being said I still don't believe it'll ever become a currency widely used. The price will become far more stable once 50-100x more people are using it. It'll be a supertanker by then and not a rowing boat, but it'll still be deflating so people won't want to spend it if they have something else available to them. Things like Lightning Networks won't make any difference to that. The chances are it'll still be worth more at the end of the week.
10253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think other exchanges are going to follow in the footsteps of Bitfinex? on: October 18, 2017, 08:34:46 PM
Absolutely yes. Even if none of them are doing anything untoward, the risks and hassles of trying to deal with the US are such a pain up the arse it's better to dispose of all Americans even though they'll be losing profit.

This isn't a crypto only problem. Americans are so loathed by financial institutions abroad that they're almost universally rejected by everyone because of the laws they're expected to comply with.

Look up FBAR and FACTA - https://www.expatnetwork.com/five-things-american-expats-need-to-know-about-foreign-bank-account-reporting/

10254  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-10-18] The Stampede Is Coming on: October 18, 2017, 08:28:59 PM
This is an interesting read - http://thereformedbroker.com/2017/10/18/an-evening-in-wonderland/ from a former sceptic attending a New York crypto summit.

One of the more interesting things to take away from it is that money is moving from the companies towards favouring investing in the coins themselves. The traditional VC route really has not paid off so far. It would've done far, far better going into the coins themselves.
10255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The secret Swiss mountain bunker where millionaires stash their bitcoins on: October 18, 2017, 06:10:56 PM
What's with all the bubbleheads in this thread saying this type of security isn't necessary?

Xapo stores over half a million bitcoins, and no doubt a few hundred thousand more as the owner is responsible for getting some very deep pockets involved in the early days and storing their coins too.

That's now somewhere in the region of $3 billion or more that could be had away.
10256  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex on: October 18, 2017, 05:19:24 PM
I predict the alternatives will get more volume with Bittrex acting a dick.

Every single exchange will eventually post you an attachment so they can suck your sperm out of your phallus and file you. None of them will become more free, they're all going to be squeezed for compliance.

We'll have to wait for properly decentralised ones to catch on, but even then most people will still want order books to play with which require third parties.
10257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: October 18, 2017, 05:10:42 PM
Wow, so it was basically all given away when the genesis block was created. That is very interesting model compared to the usual POW launch. Was there any issues regarding getting on exchanges by using this distribution model?

They arranged to launch on Poloniex, dunno about Bitttrex, and the very first sale was for about 10,000 satoshis a minute or two after the genesis block was open for business so that's a no.

It then worked its way down to 30 satoshis eventually.
10258  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex on: October 18, 2017, 04:55:57 PM
Technically speaking, this is a good move on the part of Bittrex. I mean requiring identification only further legitimizes their business.

If you read up on the numerous recent threads there are more than enough fully verified people in non evil countries who've been locked out of their accounts too.

Normally I'd assume that the whiners were incompetent or dishonest, but there are so many of them coming from so many different channels that it's clear something very abnormal is going on.
10259  Economy / Exchanges / Re: WARNING! Kraken’s FAQ & unfriendly customer policies strikes again. on: October 18, 2017, 04:47:38 PM
hire a lawyer, that's the only way you can solve your problem.

Before doing that there are tweet storms, making a thread on r/bitcoin and hassling the kraken reps on here who seem to have popped up recently and this guy in particular - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=32856

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=290799.0

Presumably they start off hoping you'll go away. When you make it clear that you won't they'll actually do something.
10260  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bter Scam Exchange? on: October 18, 2017, 12:18:11 PM
It seems to be still operational and is accepting new user registrations. Something that I thought was a bit strange for a Chinese exchange at the moment?

Why not con a few more unaware users before it's all over? It's amazing it limped on for so long and even more amazing how often people popped up on here not knowing anything about its history having just gone all in on it.

If I could write Chinese I'd shop them to the local heavies and get it shut down for good.
