10241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2020 the year of Bitcoin technology getting accepted by governments on: January 28, 2020, 02:50:07 AM
The funny thing though, is that "government" and "transparent" mostly doesn't go well together. If anything, transparency is probably the last thing they had in mind if they were to create their own digital money. Instead, it's most probably for surveillance purposes. You'd be dreaming if you think the government wanted decentralization.
10242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On most altcoins disappearing on: January 27, 2020, 11:26:57 AM
However, if we are talking in 2017, I have already proved that diversifying in altcoins is a good strategy, you guys just won now because altcoins are struggling, lol..
It's a good strategy, if you got out immediately on the top of the bubble. Buying coins/tokens at the bottom and needing to sell at the top isn't "diversification". It's speculation/gambling.
Yeah, I got out immediately but I will not lie, I am still holding some of the shitcoins you are talking now, but I should still be thankful because I made profit in my overall investment, just like gambling, you win some and you lose some, but what matters is you have more wins.

True. There's really nothing wrong about trading shitcoins as long as you can stomach the risks, as you could definitely make(or lose) money. What I was disagreeing was calling it "diversification", as diversification is done to reduce risk for your investing portfolio; which is definitely not something you can really achieve by trading shitcoins. Just to clear things out.

Yeah, I guess I can print it but I was hoping for something better, that looks and feels like an actual real bill.  Regular printers can't do that  Tongue

Thanks for the link.

I just assumed you're going to print it for the sake of making it a decoration(e.g. putting it in a frame Tongue). With that said, you can probably buy some construction paper if you want it thicker.
10244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So this is what 21 million bitcoins look like. on: January 27, 2020, 10:37:03 AM
But if Bitcoin will have its note version, that would be a digress from its being a digital currency.
Not only that. As much as I want bitcoin to have a physical note version, for bitcoin to have a note version, you'd have to trust a centralized entity(like a bank LOL) to actually print the papers, with at the same time, making sure that it doesn't become IOUs like how fiat money has become. So yea, it would completely defeat the purpose of being decentralized.

Would love to own one of those, are they one sale somewhere ?

I hope to prove you wrong at least 5 years from now.
I'm going to wish you the sincerest best of luck. You're going to need it.
10246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On most altcoins disappearing on: January 27, 2020, 10:21:31 AM
I do think altcoins disappearing will be a net positive for bitcoin in the long term. I think that it will make people realize that 99% of projects are just purely fluff, and what mostly matters is bitcoin. People are just creating blockchains for literally anything that it's beyond stupid. Think about all those scams that left a bad taste on people's mouths.

The market is big, people are looking to diversify their investment and I don't see any reason why altcoins should be eliminated when they offer great idea and they are building it for us to use in the future.
Diversifying your portfolio by investing in altcoins is still one of the most stupidest things that surprisingly, I'm still seeing in 2020.
10247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Different private key formats? on: January 27, 2020, 05:24:16 AM
In my opinion those wallets are ONLY secure if you are using them for cold storage. If you are using them on a Windows computer with a password then you are better off just keeping on a reputable exchange such as Coinbase using 2FA.

There are way too many malwares out there and almost everyday someone is getting their coins stolen even though they have secured their bitcoins with a password. So in my opinion use electrum on cold storage to sign your transactions or get a hardware wallet. If you can't do these then just keep them on an reputable exchange. Its more secure than your Windows computer.

While I definitely highly disagree with leaving funds on reputable exchanges even if they're reputable(because privacy, and because you know, MtGox and Bitfinex), I don't like using wallets on Windows devices either. If you don't use a Linux operating system for your personal computer, I'd highly suggest using wallets on phones instead, as I find them a lot safer(assuming you keep the security updates up to date, and stay unrooted).

But yea, of course, hardware wallets or airgapped devices for cold storage is still the way to go.
10248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Posting on BitcoinTalk: how do I know when my post is "too long"? on: January 27, 2020, 03:12:23 AM
There is no such thing as a post too long.

I disagree. I sometimes have a tendency to elaborate a lot -- perhaps excessively -- to get my point across. Sometimes I have to wonder, are people thinking "TL;DR?"

If you can be concise and still get your point across, do it.

True. But a topic being "too long" or "just right" is really just subjective. Like, a 10,000 word post about the economic aspects of bitcoin would be great for me who's heavily interested in that topic, whereas it'd be too long for someone who's more interested in the technological aspect.

But anyway, in my opinion, if you like being heavily detailed on your topic, then go with it. As long as you're not just intentionally making it long for some reason. And probably add a tl;dr at the bottom for those who just want to get the main gist of the topic.
10249  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Become an Owner of 1 BTC - Only the brave and courageous wins! on: January 26, 2020, 03:42:29 PM
I just wanted to add, for you fellow 3rd world country bro's out there: you don't have to aim for 1 BTC immediately! A 1 BTC goal in the get go can be very intimidating of a goal, as it could be a very long term goal. Why not aim for .1 BTC first? Then .2? and so on and so forth. Skip that Starbucks coffee and go save your money for bitcoin instead.
10250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Held a bitcoin seminar today on: January 26, 2020, 06:02:41 AM
Do you mind describing to us what most of their views are concerning bitcoin?

Are they mostly interested in the technology? As a hedge or a sort of savings account? As an investment? A trading vehicle? or what?
10251  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hackers and their use of mixing services on: January 25, 2020, 04:56:54 PM
You can replace the 'mixing' part with anything privacy-related, such as VPN, DNS encryption, etc. You can also put 'bank' in there and it will still feel okay. After all, banks have been doing a very good job of laundering money for the past decades.

This. Unfortunately, for almost every single technology that was created since the dawn of humanity, there's always immoral and unethical people that will take advantage of it in a negative manner. Cars being used as getaway vehicles, the world wide web being used to spread false info and propaganda, cameras to take unsolicited photos, the list goes on and on and on. Bitcoin and privacy solutions like mixers are just newer examples.
10252  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Price Prediction, is it helpful or falsehope for us? on: January 25, 2020, 04:30:28 PM

In the end, no one knows parin, hence rendering predictions useless. Check niyo most of the bitcoin price predictions throughout the years. Safe to say na more than 85% e sablay.

Only good thing na nakikita ko sa price predictions, ay nakakakuha ito ng publicity sa masses. Besides that, wala akong maisip as of now.
10253  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Price Prediction, is it helpful or falsehope for us? on: January 25, 2020, 04:01:17 PM
Nope. Kahit sino pwedeng gumawa ng price prediction. Oo, kahit ikaw o ako. Now, porke ba sinabi ng isang tao na ang bitcoin ay magiging priced at $xxxxxx next year e mangyayari na ito? Of course not. Masyadong maraming factors, lalo na sa bitcoin/crypto, na makapag apekto sa short/mid/long-term price para makapag estimate ng future price.

Also, hindi mo kailangang maging magaling sa "pag predict" para maging magaling na investor. Gaya nga ng isa sa pinaka famous quotes sa buong mundo ng investing: "time in the market beats timing the market".

Anong ibig sabihin nito?

Pag bullish ka sa isang bagay for the long term, mag invest ka lang sa ano mang bagay un, and wait.

oo. WAIT. hindi trade. Dahil in the end, walang makakapag sabi for sure kung anong mangyayari sa prices ng anomang asset. May it be stocks, or crypto(pwera nalang kung pump and dump shitcoin).

Isa sa pinaka sikat na quote from Warren Buffet, which isa sa pinaka famous and successful investors sa buong mundo:

Yes, stocks ang tinutukoy, pero it can apply to bitcoin and other assets rin.
10254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BEWARE what you visit! Google's new design makes Ads look like normal results! on: January 25, 2020, 11:15:42 AM
Yup, and it had an outline to make it more distinguishable. But even with the current design, we should be trained to see the [Ad] before blindly clicking on them.

Or better yet, we should be trained to use browsers with ad blocking extensions in the first place. Installing ublock origin seriously solves not only the ads problems, but it could also prevents some trackers. Quite mind boggling that people don't use adblockers by default. It's like going to some bootleg brothel without a condom.
10255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BEWARE what you visit! Google's new design makes Ads look like normal results! on: January 24, 2020, 03:52:39 PM
I'm not really sure, but hasn't Google ads appear like this since forever? The only difference I see is that last time I remember, the "Ad" text was green. Not sure though, as I've been using the uBlock Origin browser extension as far as I remember lmao.

But seriously people, lookup and install the uBlock Origin ad blocker and you won't even need to worry about these problems. Not to mention that it will be a lot less annoying to browse websites and read articles due to all those flashy ads and ad window popups.
10256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is stopping the US Government from outright BANNING Bitcoin? on: January 24, 2020, 03:05:48 PM
This is partially true that no one can completely block the entire network but if the authorities wanted to block the network they can identify big mining farms anywhere in the world and they can shut them down and everyone knows what happens if the majority of the mining power vanishes, the network becomes weak for anyone to attack. So the idea of nothing can be done to BTCitcoin is not entirely true.

Well, you're right. But that's assuming that the world governments would all go hand in hand and shut down all the mining farms. If that's likely to happen or not is another topic for another conversation, but remember that we're talking specifically about the US government(as per OP's title). Tongue Shutting down US mining farms and small time miners would definitely affect the hashrate negatively, but it wouldn't be THAT bad.
10257  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: where to buy a decent amount of btc in Aus?? on: January 24, 2020, 02:55:43 PM
I have downloaded and looked at bisq i have a 0.005btc buy limit lol goes off account age

My bad. For more info: https://docs.bisq.network/payment-methods.html

Anyway, to compensate, another suggestion would be to check out Mycelium Local Trader: https://mycelium.com/lt/help.html

You sort of select your location, and sellers from your location would then be displayed. I'm not sure if this feature of Mycelium is still widely being used, but you just might want to test it out. Hopefully your city has some active traders.

10258  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Anyone with Brave Browser? Crypto on Browsers? on: January 24, 2020, 11:23:25 AM
Very good browser in terms of privacy, and open source rin. Along with that, may built in ad block feature siya which is a plus.

With that said, ginagamit ko lang ang Brave for privacy reasons alone. Yes, pwede kang kumita ng crypto through ung opt-in ads nila, pero so far, nagrerequire sila ng KYC kasi through Uphold mo makukuha ung pera. Big no for me lagi ang KYC, so personally hihintayin ko nalang na makahanap sila ng solution na magbayad ng pera sa mga users nila through smart contracts, instead of centralized and custodial platforms gaya ng Uphold.
10259  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: where to buy a decent amount of btc in Aus?? on: January 24, 2020, 10:06:49 AM
Thanks mate but atms and online services arnt a option there limits are to small, looking at quite abit not willing to disclose the full amount but it above 50btc cheers

Well, there are no limits on Bisq
. Apparently Bisq has account age restrictions(link). Like I said, you can simply just put a buy offer and probably wait for sellers. or you can simply just buy out the sellers if you're fine with the prices. Bisq is not like your typical bitcoin exchange like Coinbase and Kraken. You can buy/sell as much as you want without even submitting any documents. You might want to take a look at it first.
10260  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: where to buy a decent amount of btc in Aus?? on: January 24, 2020, 09:11:18 AM
Hi all, just wondering if theres anywhere to buy a decent amount of btc in Aus anonymously?

One option is to look for bitcoin ATMs that doesn't have cameras and doesn't require the submission of personal identification.

Second option, is to buy bitcoin through decentralized or non-custodial exchanges like Bisq[1]. Seriously, try it out. The spreads might be bad, but if you're not in a hurry, you can set your own buy offers for you to be able to buy at a price that you're comfortable with.
