10321  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: July 08, 2021, 03:30:12 AM
The government is not following the two moves you said, they are offering another option when I am quite confident that countries have reserve budgets, it caters for special cases and that money comes from our taxes, the government often divides our taxes into many different categories and when the situation is difficult, this part of the tax will become a source of subsidies for everyone. Besides, instead of printing money or raising taxes to cause social influence, the government always calls for contributions from strong businesses, in return, they will reduce some of the tax costs for these businesses during the recovery

I don't think that this option is much practical. Many of the businesses are struggling due to issues with supply and general economic slowdown. At this point, they won't be in a position to meet the demands from the government. I would say that given the circumstances, the businesses may be hoping for tax decreases, and not tax hikes. And the justification that they may be given tax breaks once the situation becomes normal is not viable. We don't know for how long it will remain like this. And even after that, it will be a gradual recovery.
10322  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: July 08, 2021, 03:20:23 AM
I never heard of the exchange too but there must be a lot of users from their country for them to profit $3.6B.

When victims are not found more than 24 hours, the chances of them getting found alive is pretty slim. It rarely happens that a victim will show up with just bruises and can go on with their lives after.  But this one has $3.6B, I don't think a criminal will let them go without a truckload of money.

Most of the users were early adopters of Bitcoin, and that's how they managed to own that many coins. BTW, the owners claim that their life is under threat. But I don't think that is the case. They have already fled to the United Kingdom, and may soon make an application for asylum claiming that their life is under threat. The claim that they were threatened is just an excuse to make their case strong before the asylum application. And given the circumstances, any chance of the UK government deporting back to South Africa looks slim.
10323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 08, 2021, 03:10:35 AM
I fell asleep and missed the England Vs Denmark match, I was quite surprised by the result, because Denmark was able to hold on to a draw until the second half ended, unfortunately they were not able to survive in Extra Time.

Congratulations to England who have entered the final and will face Italy in the next 4 days, who do you think will be the champion? Italy or England Roll Eyes

Italy is still in the rebuilding phase, so I don't know whether they will be able to win against England. And the final match is going to be played at the Wembley stadium, which is going to give an enormous advantage for the England team. But now England can no longer claim that they haven't conceded a goal in this tournament. The goal scored by Mikkel Damsgaard during yesterday's match was the first one conceded by England, since the tournament started (there was some controversy regarding it, with some arguing that the goal was against the laws and should not have been allowed).
10324  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 08, 2021, 03:00:45 AM
The rest of the teams should rise to the other teams, if you look back West Indies had a time when they dominated world cricket and Australia always had good teams and they all rely on fitness and now teams like India is taking fitness seriously and so is the reason they have risen to those levels like Australia used to play and the rest of the teams should find the talents and rise their level to compete with the top teams.

Tehe issue is that for some of the teams like West Indies and Sri Lanka, the talent pool hasn't increased when compared to the other teams. Along with countries such as New Zealand and Zimbabwe, they have small populations and therefore finding enough talented players is always going to be a challenge. In the case of New Zealand, they have benefitted recently from the influx of players from South Africa. After the removal of Kolpak loophole, now New Zealand seems to be the preferred destination for the South African players. Else they too would have found themselves in the same stage.
10325  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: July 07, 2021, 04:30:17 AM
I can say loudly that world without poverty is non sense. Why? Look at this time, the gap is so far. Not only about economic but also mentality. Some poor people are not only poor in wealth but also poor in mind.  If you want to tell me whether this world can be without poverty, it is the same if I ask whether all humans can have belief in the same religion?  In the book which I read, it is taught how to manage the nation and state with zakat.  Zakat is able to provide a solution to poverty and inequality.  But is Zakat accepted in all countries?  Not.  such is poverty.

There will always be wealth inequality in the world. But from what I can see, with some exceptions (such as Sub-Saharan Africa), this wealth disparity is reducing with time. Extreme poverty is rare nowadays, even in Africa. Some of the countries such as China claims to have completely eradicated extreme poverty. But they achieved this through tough family planning measures. For African countries, this is not practical because they don't believe in family planning. So it will take more time to eradicate extreme poverty in these countries.
10326  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why some millionaires hate Bitcoin? on: July 07, 2021, 04:20:41 AM
The rich have their own solidified channels to make money. They are still rich without Bitcoin, and they are even afraid that Bitcoin will grab their share of the money-making field. Of course, Bitcoin also needs rich people with knowledge of encryption technology to participate. According to the current situation, most people do not have such a consensus.

This is definitely one of the reasons. If Bitcoin presents itself as a good option for investment, then I am afraid that very few would opt for other investment options such as stock market. This will in turn affect the already existing billionaires badly, since most of their assets will be in the form of stocks. And then there is the issue with jealousy. People like Warren Buffet, who spent 5 decades of his life to get rich can't come to terms with kids in their 20s becoming billionaires in just a couple of years, from their investment with cryptocurrencies.
10327  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Big companies finally had enough of the excessive tax on: July 07, 2021, 04:10:24 AM
In a way I am surprised this is the path that Biden took, the democrats have being stating that they will make use of modern monetary theory which basically states that they can print as much money as they want with no repercussions, after all we know that inflation is in fact a tax and the higher the inflation the higher the tax people need to pay, it seems he took a more orthodox path but even then it is going to be difficult to force businesses to pay those taxes as they have the best experts around the world to help them to avoid doing it.

An increase in taxes always affect the middle class more than any other economic group. Because the upper class and the institutions make use of various loopholes to avoid paying any taxes. To an extent, the US federal reserve can increase the supply of banknotes. Since USD is the world reserve currency, even if additional amount of banknotes are printed (to an extent), the inflation will remain within tolerable levels. But it is a very thin line right now, with the federal debt fast approaching $30 trillion level.
10328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will The Sorrow of BTC Be The Pleasure of Altcoins? on: July 07, 2021, 04:01:08 AM
I need to congratulate the OP for coming up with a title that is so poetic. If the sorrow of Bitcoin actually get converted to pleasure for the alts, I am afraid that the situation may not last for much longer. We saw this in 2014, and then again in 2018. It is very simple. The altcoins are incapable of independent existence without Bitcoin. In the initial stages, they may be able to leach a certain amount of market cap from Bitcoin. But the ultimately the altcoin bubble will burst because the valuation doesn't correspond to acceptability in the market.
10329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dont stay in crypto too long on: July 07, 2021, 03:50:20 AM
You are wrong because  crypto is linked to Fiat.  99% of people who use crypto use it to make fiat and here in the UK some banks are allready starting to stop people form using debit or credit cards on Crypto exchange sites  They could also stop any payments coming from exchanges if they wanted to. Once you take away the ability to exchange crypto for fiat it almost becomes useless .  One of cryptos major problems is its high dependancy to fiat.

I don't agree. Most of the people here are to make profit. It is not necessary that this profit needs to be in fiat. Right now, most of the people would prefer to convert their profits to fiat currency, because at this point only a limited number of articles can be purchased for BTC. Super markets and retail stores don't accept BTC. So you first need to purchase gift cards or pre-paid debit cards (which are denominated in fiat currency) with Bitcoin, before you are able to do shopping with your coins. This situation will change, as the Bitcoin acceptability increases.
10330  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-07-02 CNBC - Bitcoin mining consumed 56% green energy in June quarter on: July 07, 2021, 03:40:09 AM
People need to realize, you need cheap energy to make profits, renewables are anything but cheap otherwise there won't be any damn coal and gas and nuclear power plants running as we speak. But they are cheap,  that's why more than 60% of the whole damn energy in this world is produced by coal and gas and not unicorn farts.  If people turn on coal miners it means there is an economical reason to do so, just like it's an economical reason to fuel your car, and if somebody is willing to pay how about you stay out of my garden and not count how much coal I put in my grill for my barbecue weekend party?

This whole thing about renewables is just chasing dreams, I can't stand any industry that claims we're eco-friendly, look we're zero-carbon all that crap. We planted 10 000 trees so we can run 10 000 FedEx trucks, we're neutral. My country is one of the dirtiest in Europe, we use close to 85% non-renewables, should I hang myself cause right now my computer is powered by coal? Does my beer in my fridge taste worse because of that?
Don't know where this obsession comes but it needs to stop, there is no human activity that is green, even when you fart you're heating the atmosphere and killing pandas, just deal with it. If half of the energy in the world is spent on people watching streaming porn that's the choice half of the world is making and it's their business alone.

Couldn't put it any better than this. The so called environmentalists are a bunch of hypocrites. Take the case of the latest overhyped activist (Greta Thunberg). In front of cameras, she will yell "how dare you".. but behind the cameras it is business as usual. In order to make her well publicized "how dare you" speech, she had to travel from Europe to North America. She refused to board an aircraft claiming that it emits green house gases. So a “zero emission yacht” was arranged for her to travel.

Now comes the catch. The crew had to be changed for the return journey. 7 of the staff were flown from Europe to North America, just to bring the yacht back. Instead of emissions from a single passenger, her publicity stunt resulted in additional greenhouse gas emissions from another 7 travelers.

10331  Economy / Economics / Re: Vietnam Becomes Latest Country to Turn to Crypto on: July 07, 2021, 03:30:14 AM
When, some months ago, El Salvador adopted bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, I replied on a thread in this forum that a big step as that would motivate quite a number of countries into accepting and adopting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Vietnam doing this shows more evidences that digital money is inevitable and here to stay. Since it will, eventually, be adopted because it's inevitable, it is only wise to adopt it early enough.
Trust,  more Countries will follow suit in this trend send ig wouldn't be long before bitcoin becthe number one currency in the world.

I don't think that Vietnam's move was inspired by El Salvador. Unlike the case with El Salvador, Bitcoin is not yet 100% legal in Vietnam. The creation of CBDC in Vietnam was probably inspired by China, which recently listed its own CBDC called the digital Yuan (eCNY). On top of that I don't expect socialist dictatorships such as Vietnam to take a more conciliatory view towards cryptocurrency. If Bitcoin becomes popular, then the heavily manipulated national currencies can get negatively affected. Therefore the hesitance and hostility from the part of the government is understandable.
10332  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: July 07, 2021, 03:20:13 AM
No strategy will be fully successful without a robust set of social policies designed to ensure individuals and small businesses are able to comply with restrictive rules.

Covid-19 has highlighted inequalities in access to health care and people's ability to be able to stay at home to continue the work they do. Poverty, gender, job skills and immigration status have become factors that determine who is more susceptible to infection in society.

But governments differ greatly in shaping the social policies they design to manage crises and promote economic recovery.

The governments around the world are facing a dilemma. On one hand, they have seen their revenues dipping, as a result of plummeting tax collections. And on the other hand, their expenses are increasing due to the need to buy vaccines and other supplies such as oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators. There are few options for them now. Either they need to increase the taxes, or they need to start printing more number of banknotes. Both the actions have negative consequences associated with them.

First time hearing this, so they have a leaked tape  Cheesy. Not aware of his personal life but had to search a bit and looks like he messed up a lot after his playing days and entered politics and in 2019 the ICC banned him and now that ban is revoked. He was a great player but leaking them because that lady married someone is silly and i am sure after the sex tape leak he might be single forever Cheesy.

It is not unusual for cricketers to have mental issues. There is a lot of pressure to perform on the field and sometimes it take a toll. One example that comes to my mind right now is that of Monty Panesar (former England spinner). He suffered from severe schizophrenia and paranoia for many years. But after treatment, he seems to be alright now. Marcus Trescothick, Jonathan Trott and Andrew Flintoff are some of the other cricketers who suffered from mental health issues in the past. Even Virat Kohli once admitted that he struggled with depression in 2014.
10334  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 07, 2021, 03:00:47 AM
Although Spain is failed to reach the Final, but I can say that their performance against Italy is their best performance in this tournament. I did not expect that they can play that well till the extra time. I predicted that Italy will win the game in normal time but I was wrong, perhaps I was underestimating the young squad of Spain. Too bad, the one who scored in normal time (Morata) was failed to do his task well in penalty shoot out. Both team deserves to be in Final but of course only one to go further. Thumbs up for both teams.

Once again, those who made a bet in favor of the draw after regulation time got rewarded. Good performance from both Spain and Italy. But the irony is that the fans from these countries were unable to attend the semi-finals, due to travel restrictions. Anyway, in all probability, we can expect that the final will be between England and Italy. If Italy manages to win the trophy, then it will be a big achievement for the Italian coach (Roberto Mancini). Before the start of the tournament, he was severely criticized for lack of bonding with some of the team members.

Here in India, there was not much media coverage about the $1 billion donation from Vitalik Buterin. On the other hand, when the cricket player Pat Cummins donated $30,000 for COVID relief in India, the newspapers covered it in the front page. I was really disappointed with this. Even now, 99% of the Indians don't know that Vitalik made such a huge donation in the form of SHIBA INU. And some people even managed to criticize him, claiming that he is just trying to dump the useless tokens that he received. Contrary to their expectations, SHIBA held on to its price.

Even though the charity focuses on the developing world where they feel the improvements they make in health infrastructure and sanitation will do the most good and save the most lives, in 2019 the charity spent approximately 524 million dollars on US programs with the vast majority going to educational initiatives.  I have no problem with a charity helping the developing world.  Charity is charity, and saving the most lives is what matters.

Can you give  a breakdown of this 514 million USD figure? I want to know how much of it was spent on organizing conferences and on speaking charges. Does that include speeches from politicians such as Hillary Clinton (who charge anywhere from $100,000 to $1 million as speaking fee for a single event)? I also don't have any problem in Bill Gates helping developing world. But that shouldn't be done at the expense of the tax payer in the US. Is it that hard for Mr. Gates to pay 20% of the amount as capital gains tax, and spend the remaining 80% in Africa, or wherever he want?
10337  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why women are the minority in crypto land? on: July 06, 2021, 04:12:00 AM
I think it's because of the nature of work in this field that it's not very accessible to women. There are many areas for them to choose from but I find that most of them are not qualified to compare with men, there can be many exceptions where there are some women who are more prominent but in terms of Overall I just find that men do better than men in this area.

What do you mean by not accessible? I am a woman and I have been to this field for the last 7 years. I never faced any issue with "accessibility". Women are scarce in this field, because most of them are not interested in technology. Cryptocurrency is more popular among the youth (those in 20s and 30s), and normally the women of this age group are not much interested in investing. From what I have seen, women turn to cryptocurrency at a later stage of their life when compared to the men. There are several reasons, such as lack of interest and unavailability of funds.
10338  Economy / Economics / Re: Die today, Die tommorrow, the same dying! still get vaccinated! on: July 06, 2021, 04:01:08 AM
I will not get vaccinated, at least I will try to avoid it in the next couple of years.
I do not want to be a beta tester of strange vaccines with unknown side effects, but I believe that the elderly should be vaccinated due to the increased risk zone.

Obviously no one can force you to take the vaccine (unless you are living in a dictatorship such as North Korea). But at this point, it should be remembered that all the available vaccines have completed the phase III trials. The results from these clinical trials are available with reputed medical journals such as The Lancet. Each of these trials involved anywhere from 50,000 to 200,000 people. On top of that, more than 3 billion doses of the vaccine has been administered till now, and this goes way beyond any "Beta testing" phase.
10339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 06, 2021, 03:50:31 AM
anything is possible, but seeing the track record of England, Denmark will be very difficult to win from England.

Germany was defeated by England with a score that I think was a landslide (2 - 0) and also beat Ukraine with a very landslide score (0 - 4).

Everything will be clear in the field later Cheesy

I would think twice before placing a bet in favor of Denmark. Because out of the four teams in the semis, England seems to be in exceptional form. It is just unbelievable that they haven't conceded a goal so far (perhaps that is going to remain as such till the end of this tournament). My only question is who will be the opponents of England in the final. Is it going to be Spain, or is it going to be Italy? The situation here is directly opposite to what we have with England vs Denmark. The Italy vs Spain is a battle between two equal sides. It is extremely hard to predict who is going to qualify for the final.
10340  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: You got a pifzer ? Then you can be eligible for lottery in Poland. on: July 06, 2021, 03:40:26 AM
Insane how Poland didn't get a good number of people vaccinated yet, even after releasing these lotteries. Their government is doing a great job but citizens seem to be non co-operative, that is why many people die due to corona because of lack of self-protection. Hope that their citizens will understand the concerns and start getting vaccinated quickly.

In Eastern Europe, the people (especially those who are middle aged or elderly) don't trust the government. This is due to their experience during the Communist rule, which lasted until the 1990s. Same is the case with Russia. The government is administering Sputnik V, which is one of the most efficient vaccines against COVID. But so far less than one-fifth of the population has come up for vaccination. At least in the case of Poland, the percentage is much higher (still much lower when compared to the western nations).
