Who is the escrow?

Who is the escrow?
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Development on: March 13, 2014, 08:33:39 PM
anyone who is dumb enough to give btc/money to this obvious scam deserves to lose it all. We are not in the bfl/avalon era anymore. No sympathy when you come here whining in Sept for non-delivery.

1043  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.996 BTC for 180GH/s on: March 13, 2014, 03:33:31 PM
i think we are close to hitting the cost basis, this will definitely be the first asic hardware to do so.

Lets breakdown the cost, 1BTC = $630, DHL express(with discount) = $100, which leaves $530 for parts/labor/manufacturing on top of profit. I estimate bitmain probably makes netnet ~$300 in profit per unit currently. Not much headroom left.

1044  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Introducing OneString miners - March 12 price reduction: ~12% on: March 12, 2014, 03:39:06 PM
the price is just too high at close to 3x the antminer gh/$.  I might as well just buy cex.io shares at this rate.
1045  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ***CEX.IO Cloud mining official page*** on: March 10, 2014, 08:52:37 PM
i have said it a long time ago on this thread, cex.io is a game of musical chairs. You can make money as long as there is someone to hand the bag to. But as the music stops there is bound to be someone left standing holding the bag. If that person is you then you lost.

At 3X the market GH/$ and 12% monthly fee, the musical chair is still going, but the end is near as the asic hardware cost reach their manufacturing cost basis, with china pumping out units like no tomorrow.

Bottomline, dont be the one left holding the bag and you will be fine.
1046  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.999 BTC for 180GH/s on: March 10, 2014, 08:35:38 PM
we have to give major props to bitmain for  1) producing stable well designed hardware 2) well priced 3) solid track record of delivery as promised.

He single handily kept the asic hardware price down and prevent those shady outfits like BFL from continue to scam the bitcoin community. Right now there is absolutely no point ordering any of those preorders considering the price/GH ant is able to deliver.

BFL and those preorder companies must really hate him.

However we desperately need a 1 TH+ box soon, as the difficulty is at a point where it becomes unmanageable for the average retail miner to keep 10+ ants running in their house.  Hope bitmain has something in the works.
1047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO of Blockchain.info tweets "Big News Dropping Tomorrow" on: March 04, 2014, 03:35:45 PM
This is a suckers rally, the price will crash again together with the stock market.
In war times gold and silver is king.

you do realize market is treating bitcoin the same way as gold/silver correct?
1048  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: March 03, 2014, 05:39:15 PM
A very simple point over all this, that I think sumarizes Karpeles and MtGox positions:

Once MtGox suspended all withdrawals due to missing BTC etc. they DID NOT suspend deposits or trading, that way attracting a whole lot of NEW money to sink into the bankruptcy.

If that is not a criminal, on purpose, act, I dont know what is.

yep – and in fact I actually wire transferred $15,000 the same day the website was shut down. Fuck me.
ya right

I know a few guys that, like the one you quoted, gabled on gox comming back, so they transfered money on the last days when goxBTC was dirty cheap.

He might be telling the truth Tongue

Those are just pure speculators they know the counterparty risk very clearly and made a bet, nothing wrong with that but no need to cry about it afterwards for being on the wrong side. It's essentially buying a credit default swap on a c-rated company for $0.2 on the $1, not a bet i would personally made.

It's the clueless average joe who decided to invest some money in bitcoins, who doesnt read the forums, and thought mtgox is just like fidelity that are victims. And they will now stay away from bitcoins, most probably cant even tell the difference between mtgox and bitcoin, still thinking bitcoin went down.

This is why bitcoin foundation is doing such a disservice by leaving gox on the gold list, not warning anyone, then act all surprised when gox broke the news.

1049  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Calling out the Bitcoin Foundation Scam. on: March 03, 2014, 05:32:12 PM
If the rats leave the bitcoin ship the foundation can have fun with their playmoney.
We start a new bitcoin 2.0 with no premining (im not talking about an alt-coin, but an exact copy of bitcoin)

lol good luck with that...
1050  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Calling out the Bitcoin Foundation Scam. on: March 03, 2014, 05:06:57 PM
i agree the bitcoin foundation at best are absolutely useless and at worst promote bad players at the cost of the average joe. I used to drop a little donation to them here and there (not so little given today's prices) but have stopped and wish could get my money back.

They should have removed gox from the gold list a long time ago and mark karpele from the board, add insult to injury, they acted all surprised when gox revealed they were insolvent when majority of the people in the community already knew.

They have done little to promote bitcoins, when is the last event or promotion they did? what have they done to protect the average bitcoin users from all the scams including gox? How about encourage core development on bitcoin(d) itself?  Nothing

The whole organization is a waste of a domain name and oxygen.

I will not be supporting nor donating to them any further.

Has anyone cracked open a random one to see if it has the private key?

I'm sure there is a key. The real risk is someone keeps a list of all the address and private keys back at HQ.

Not at all saying that is what happened here but it sure is why I wont buy anything smoothie makes.

Can you elaborate on what Smoothie does. Ive bought coin from him.

ditto what did smoothie do?
1052  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: SMiners.com :: Shared Bitcoin Mining Plan on: March 01, 2014, 03:19:11 PM
1) 2th miners created in their own private lab
2) all + posts are from newbie shills
3) too good to be true price.

Don't let greed get to you, this is clearly a scam
1053  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox has filed for bankruptcy protection on: February 28, 2014, 01:14:09 PM
I've only been around since 5 December and I already feel like I've been through the wars.

haha welcome to the world of bitcoins
1054  Economy / Goods / Re: New Physical Bitcoin: This Represents a New Standard Folks on: February 28, 2014, 12:42:13 AM
In this case, it means that it will be impossible to resell these. Because say "John" buys a valid coin (containing the 2BTC) and is perfectly honest, when he tries to resell it to me, I have no idea if John is selling a real coin or a fake coin. Therefore these are only useful for personal cold storage and can never be resold.

Exactly they need some type of authentication on the coin, otherwise anyone can just contract one of hundreds of coin makers and have this made.

Also 2 btc premium over intrinsic is very high. I see this as purely a fun collectible/gift, not investment grade product.
1055  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 26, 2014, 06:30:15 AM
Does anyone know if sturle is ok?
1056  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Official Money Lost in Mt. GOX Thread on: February 25, 2014, 08:10:09 AM
25btc and 6000usd

How come you didn't get the usd out? Could made a decent profit.  Buy $130 gox btc, sell on the new exchange for 0.4 real btc, sell btc on coinbase or another legit exchange for fiat. 300% gain or $12k profit plus still having the $6k

first ever financial crisis in the btc world???

more like #984827902 crisis.
1058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ding Dong the wicked Mt GOX is dead! on: February 25, 2014, 07:08:00 AM
this is the worst thing to happen to bitcoin this year

this is the best thing that could happen to bitcoin this year.  mtgox and mark karpeles have caused more damage to bitcoin - both in term of reputation and price than any other company, person, or event in the history of bitcoins.  This is the final chapter to close the book on this criminal and shady outfit, it is a cancer that must be removed for bitcoin to continue its healthy progress forward.

Short term pain from all the panic mainstream investors who have no idea what's going on, long term this is not material.

The network is fine, every other exchange is fine, remain calm and it will be alright.

1059  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 25, 2014, 06:22:50 AM
I'm currently paying approx $150 per KW/month for hosting inclusive of space and power - so multiplied out to be an annual cost (not an ideal calculation) im paying effectively approx $2/GH/year in power/hosting costs right now... and if it was using antminers, i'd be paying $4/GH/year (making the assumption they dont charge more cos they use 3x the space in the rack, which i suspect is unrealistic so lets assume $5/GH/Year is more likely).  So i think that re-iterates my thought that the antminer 180 gh products are more suited to a home mining operation than a commercial scale mining op.

You forget the most important calculation. When the hashing starts. Since the Ant costs $400/year extra in hosting, if it starts hashing 2 weeks earlier, it more than makes up the extra hosting cost and overall is a more profitable solution.

it doesn't really matter, with bitcoin at $450, pretty much no preorder will be profitable until the btc/usd goes back up.
1060  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: DopaMINE - Cryptocurrency Mining Case by Red Harbinger on: February 21, 2014, 10:09:01 PM
nice case but price is way too high. my $5 plastic crate with zipties does the job just as good, besides it only fits 2 power supply that's 3 cards per 1 psu which is cutting very close even for a 1200W gold+
