1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends on 29 November[Updates&Discussion] on: December 06, 2014, 07:43:45 AM

155 socks were removed from the first round which is already calculated in the 2845 stake holders number. the second round is less than 200 (afaik) but more than 150 (i think)

So itīs still ~900 unclaimed stakes. Thats like 30% of the 2845 total stakes.

If I understand it right, redemption of BTTstakes is suspended until after launch, so some will redeem later.
Or are they still added to the list on chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered ?

Any plans to penalise them? They have not been active and should receive some less. The ones active and following with interest should get a bonus.
all penalties have been dropped.. Prior to deadline gets you 100%..  deadline = 0.. Best way to do things imo..

The bonus idea is good but why should someone who doesn't lift a finger to comment get the same bonus as some who has been testing for months? That kind of thing opens the doors for all kinds of shit that we don't need.. Ether you get coins or you don't.. Nice and simple Smiley people are getting easily long enough too so no one can complain if they lose their stake..

Whats the deadline now? Is it still till February?

i have no idea lol i think it was based on 2 months from some other deadline or something..

yeah that other deadline is simply launch. You can claim 2 months after launch.
There might be a small gap of a day or 2 between though.

I use Ubuntu Linux.
I tried to install NEM java client, it doesn't start. I finished the phase 1 of the redemption process, I can't finish the phase 2. The instruction for Linux on java.com are not for Ubuntu.

I'm scared I lost my NEMstake. Help!

Edit: to clarify: My name doesn't appear here; https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered
Java is installed on my machine and I have two accounts:
http://127.0.0.1:8989/ncc/web/dashboard.html?wallet=davidlatapie&account=XXXXXXXXXXX
http://127.0.0.1:8989/ncc/web/dashboard.html?wallet=David%20Latapie&account=XXXXXXXX

The instructions for Linu on java.com should work for any linux distribution but if you're not comfortable with installing without package manager then maybe this will help http://tecadmin.net/install-oracle-java-8-jdk-8-ubuntu-via-ppa/ (should work for ubuntu as well not only for mint)

talk of price is great and all, but we have a broken fucking product.  Heads out of asses now please.

What's broken?

Not sure.  The NIS never came back online, so I cleared out everything but the wallet file and started downloading the entire chain again last night.  It was at block 53000 something as of this morning, with NIS constantly cycling in and out of sync.  Very annoying.  We'll see if it ever fully synced later today when I get home

This cycling in and out of sync is just a display thing i think. It'll show sometimes that your synced even if your not and then when it realizes that it's not it'll show that again.
All such crap will hopefully be gone when we switch to using websockets instead of polling.

Do I have to wait until someone is willing to sell for these exact terms or does this have some kind of pathfinding like Ripple ?
Since I know that you were active in Ripple a while back I'm sure you know what I mean Smiley
I plan to support both methods,so you can specifically match a trade or have automatic conversions.
Then there are the Tradebots, which will do anything they are told to using a Turing complete scripting language called "C"

I found out most people arent comfortable typing in C code into JSON strings! so I will make some reference Tradebots for the standard things that people will want to do, like arbitrage, accumulate, divest over time, etc. Probably these will be linked to buttons in the GUI, but not sure of such details yet.

That way you can trade a large order over time, without babysitting it, and minimize the effect on the markets you are trading.

James

P.S. Not everything will be all done at once as there are a lot of cases to handle, especially all the various methods of order clearing

Not exactly suprising Smiley

NEM is the new EXOCOIN.

I believe the team here have run out of reasons to delay the launch instead of being honest and saying their product doesn't work. No more votes, no more blaming users for not testing the beta, no more drawn out registering processes, no more setting dates and changing them and then saying we never set any dates, no more bullshit.

Launch or be the new Exocoin who also couldn't get its tech right. 2 years to produce nothing, wah wah.

Open Beta anyone? Welcome to my ignore.

Interestingly that dude already was on my ignorelist Smiley
I guess he must have been spreading equaly wise words in another thread.

The NEM beta blockchain has more than 1 million transactions inside (Nxt blockchain has about 680k transactions). Many transactions have a message attached which increases the size of the database too.
My node needs about 80 minutes to sync from scratch (with a not yet released version of NIS).
That's a remarkable achievement. Congrats to all the devs and nemsters to reach 1 million transactions in the testnet itself. This speaks the awesomeness of our devs and their coding because the current beta 0.4.36 is quite stable than the previous versions that I have tested. Cheesy

I agree.  That is quite a big deal.  I am not sure how long it took Bitcoin to get to 1 million, but I think it took a long time.

My version of NEM has been working well too.  24-7 for almost two weeks.

It's not really that big of a deal. It would be if those were actuall trades but we're pre-launch so it's people running spambots and stuff. It's very cool that our network seems to be able to handle that kind of load but the mere existence of that amount isn't very remarkable Smiley

any stats on the average number of tx/per block or peak no of tx/block, longest number of blocks in row that have max number of tx in them etc? i think those are more important numbers than just x tx have been done in the beta and matter much much more too as they give a good insight into what the network should be able to handle after launch..

I'm sure bloody could pull such stats but from what i remember there were quite a few streaks where many adjacent blocks were completely filled with tx.

WHy does NIS take so long to start?  Pain in the ass on restart

Currently it is reading 1 gb of blocks from the db upon startup. We are working on improving the performance of this.

Allthough it does depend on the machine as well. It doesn't really take long for me.
1050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends on 29 November[Updates&Discussion] on: December 01, 2014, 07:22:23 AM
devs take all time the time you need but do it wisely!
That troll it's not completely wrong, a lot of new coins will come and Nem may risk to lose some hype especially if one of those will bring something really innovative...

Anyway just curious to see what happen if that wall get eaten....

Can't compute Huh  Grin

I'm glad there are still people among our stakeholders who understand what NEM is about and have working brains that tell them that rushing is never a good idea. Glad to have you guys on board !

Does this sound too good to be true only to me ?
It's like we bought a little money making machine that sits on a blockchain  and spits out money every month without the holders doing anything Grin
I'm waiting for the FEDs to kick down doors any moment now Smiley

I agree. I'm a supporter from the beginning (and still support), but please release the coin then work on adding more features.

I'll be as clear as possible on this

We WON'T release NEM without multisig support. Period.

So is there a time frame on how long that would take?

I think the original estimate was a few weeks but it needs to best tested very thoroughly by the devs as well as the community.
The implementation has already started I don't know where it is right now but some other things needed to be fixed before moving on.
1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NODE - 2n Gen. CryptoCurrency build from SCRATCH on NODE.JS - NEW CODE! on: November 30, 2014, 06:59:22 PM

Sure thing, here you go:

On first glance this doesn't look fully decentralized.

Oh noes, it's centralized! Subtle.

Centralized and not decentralized are 2 different things. I explicitely said distributed which is exaclty what it is. Or rather what it seems to be according to the graphic.

I'm not against distributed (as oppsosed to decentralized) networks as I'm also a supporter of the technology behind Ripple

Nice attempt to link Node to Ripple, one of the most centralized, hated cryptos out there.

As I said I support Ripple. And the fact that it's hated is because people are missinformed. The fact that this setup is similar is undeniable. It's not a bad thing. It's just a fact. Just like in ripple there are "main nodes" - ripple calles it "validators" - that are doing the actuall validation. Just like in Ripple anyone can run such a node.

but this is just completely different from what has been presented so far (lord knows the whitepaper didn't mention any of this).

The original whitepaper did not provide details on this aspect, so not sure how things changed exactly.

I guess the language barrier is taking it's toll afterall.

And a nice final jab to close.

Please don't pretend you wish to provide constructive criticism and help Node succeed, you aren't fooling anyone.

I guess I can't post here without people putting words in my mouth. Fine. I'll remove this from my watchlist then.

NOpe im here to stay. Do what you must. Like I said I have no hate. I've waited this long, If I didn't want to support NEM I would've given up in june. I hope you didn't think I was insulting our NEM. Cheers

Na, the last paragraph wasn't directed at you...unless you have a second account Wink

We do need to set a real deadline. it's almost been a year. I'm still patiently waiting tho.
I thought it would be out late November and still no. Not hating just expressing my opinion. Keep up the good work tho. Im sure it won't be long. I hope

You see we didn't want to give a deadline in the first place because we new that things may come up especially since the alpha hasn't been tested by many people (which is something the community should consider their fault imho). Since so many people were demanding one we gave them a deadline knowing very well that we may not be able to hold it which is exactly what happend.

Hey Pat,

I have nothing but respect to you and the team. But has it occur to you guys that maybe some people just got tired of waiting and just decided to just wait till this is all done.
I know we only have one shot at this but It's never goin to be perfect. We can only do better as we go. something will always come up, if thats the reason for delaying every time then this will never be released. We can't prevent something from coming up. No such thing as error proof. But we  iron things out as we go. But hey what do I know. I'm NEM supporter from the start and will always be. So Do what is necessary. Maybe releasing it will get more people testing it. It is a double edged sword. Do what you must. A real deadline must be put to the table. Cheer guys. No hate from me, all but love. I thank you for the work the team has done.

I agree. I'm a supporter from the beginning (and still support), but please release the coin then work on adding more features.

We're not delaying because of more features or perfectionism. The devs are working on getting stuff working that they deem to be network critical. I know people are frustrated. All I can really do is tell people what's up and hope they understand.

If you're frustrated and don't want to support NEM anymore I can't do anything about that. All I'm asking is for people not go nuts and create accounts solely for the purpose of insulting NEM.

Due to numerous requests of Node community we have decided to reveal some secrets of network architecture and structure of queries and interactions before the end of the beta.

The main secret of transaction speed is in the structure of Node network which is designed according to the principle of functioning and interconnections of brain neural network.

All nodes in the system are peers similar to brain neurons.
Ordinary nodes serve as input neurons, the main nodes play the role of hidden neurons. Blockchain this output neuron.

*image*

Node network includes the main nodes and ordinary nodes.

Main node is a client running on the server via a key (start index.js -key: examplekey), ordinary node are the same clients running without a key.
Number of main nodes is mathematically unlimited.

Main node takes over 10,000 connections. If you run the client and first main node already has 10,000 connections than the client connects to the next main node.

Ordinary nodes are connected to the main node and with several other connected nodes through the main node. The main nodes primarily interact with each other.

*image*

For quick transaction the client needs to keep connection with one main node and with several ordinary nodes. There's enough 2-10 connections for fast work.
If the transaction is committed by main node and several ordinary nodes it is enough to fix the transaction by the entire network via priority communication of main nodes.

Thus, the client does not need to keep the simultaneous multiparty connection with all other network clients to sync transaction.

I'm glad someone that is able to speak proper english steps up and explains the infrastructure. I really don't mean to offend anyone but it was about time Smiley

Thanks for posting this !

I'd argue that it is less of a case of language barriers, and more of a case of "NEM bias" (AKA "looking out for my own bag itis") that pretty much everyone who comes to this thread screaming "scam", "centralized", "not scalable", etc is suffering from.

How exactly is this centralized? Did the devs say that the "main" nodes are only going to be run by them? Did the Node team incorporate themselves? Does the dev team hold 80% of the Nodes in existence?

Attempting to call Node another Ripple is nothing more than FUD.

Point me to the posting where i stated any of that. thanks.
I even said that I support distributed systems. Do you even read peoples posts before attacking them ? I think you are suffering from NODE bias as opposed to others suffering from NEM bias.
