after spending a long time on the forum, the nicknames of many users are so familiar that trusting the posts of people you read every day is safer for me than reading information from strangers on the Internet.

Yes, this is exactly why I mentioned the option reputation. Some of you guys have been around and contributed to this forum for a long time. Those forum members are unlikely to give incorrect information unless it's an honest mistake or misunderstanding. I have followed a lot of YouTube videos before and ended up messing up my system. The very recent incident happened last night. I was trying to set up Fedora workstation 38 with Windows dual boot. I ended up corrupting my Windows files, and I had to format my drives. I have lost my PGP key backups and many other important files. I was lucky that I had stored my electrum keys offline. Otherwise, I could have lost thousands of dollars.
1042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Don't be afraid of buying Bitcoin on: October 07, 2023, 09:38:02 AM
Rich people like Changpeng Zhao(cz), Brian Armstrong, Jed Mc Caleb etc dare to store large amounts of Bitcoin because they already know Bitcoin more than other people think. Their knowledge of the uses of Bitcoin has placed them among several other individuals who hold large amounts of Bitcoin.
Logically, if these rich people dare to save large amounts of money in the form of Bitcoin, why are we still hesitant about holding Bitcoin? The risk is definitely there, especially since the price of Bitcoin is very volatile. But sufficient knowledge about Cryptocurrency investment will shape investors to be patient when under pressure.

However, they are already wealthy enough. No one invested more than they could afford to lose. Some of them take risks like CZ to build a business, and he is a successful man so far. I am not saying that you should be afraid of investing in Bitcoin, but no one should invest all their money into one thing hoping it will make them rich and the fiat money will be zero at some point. Fiat money is here to stay, and I do not see the US dollar becoming zero anytime soon. If there are no fiats, how will Bitcoin dominate other currencies? We need alt coins to dominate them.
1043  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Eng: Tutorial] PGP Signature - Encrypt/Decrypt message - Fingerprint on: October 07, 2023, 08:05:52 AM
I suggest you complement it with your own experience in practising it, as in the past, mdayonliner wrote its version by using my thread PGP/GPG Signed Message - Public Key in Indonesian as a reference*.

In my thread, it is intended for several OS with several methods and applications:

Haha. A funny thing happened to me last night. I wanted to dual boot my PC with Fedora workstation 38 and needed at least 15 GB of unallocated free space in the same drive. I had 137 GB of free space available, but when I tried to shrink the drive, it allowed me to shrink a maximum of 14 GB. So, I deleted some files and turned off some Windows features shown in a YouTube video tutorial. After installing the OS, I noticed my Windows files got corrupted, and I had to format the SSD without having any backup. My HDD was also damaged simultaneously with 1.5 TB of files, and now I got fu**d up. I found some bugs and difficulties on Fedora workstation 38, so I installed Debian 12 this time. I hope everything will be fine, and I guess it's my end with Windows! I am already having some difficulties with Linux as I am a new user.

1045  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need to Trade My Coin on: October 06, 2023, 09:00:21 AM
I decided to drop this image from one of 1miau thread Trade vs. HODL - avoid traps it explains fully why you should avoide trading and consider HODLING you're Bitcoins

The illustration is good example. But it's not that easy to hold how it looks like. You need the most precious thing to hold your coins which is patience. The problem is everyone do not have this precious thing. I tried to hold my coins a couple of tomes. But I always end up gambling them, or selling them for some special needs. At some point, I was disappointed at myself because every time I plan to hold my bitcoin, I end up spending them. So, I started searching for a feature where I can lock my bitcoin for a specific time so I don't spend them. The solution was coinb.in timelock system. I have tried it and it's still works. So, if someone is impatient like me, I suggest them to use these service.
1046  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HODL is purely a mental challenge on: October 06, 2023, 01:39:48 AM
After all, it's a very important lesson to know that HODL is purely a mental challenge. If you want to HODL correctly, you should know and pay attention to all the points mentioned above.  Smiley

Some people tend to break every rule made in this world. Sometimes I cannot hold myself from saying something straightforward. My forum journey began with a question in mind, it was "Can I lock my Bitcoin in a wallet? I found a solution at the end. But the problem was, I was making money online and spending them online as well. I was thinking of saving my Bitcoin for the future. But most of the time I end up gambling my bitcoin in online casinos. So I was looking for a solution. Coinb.in was the solution. I already know that saying Hodl is not hard, but most of us cannot hold it. We fail because it's a mental challenge and sometimes we fail to ourselves.
1047  Other / Off-topic / Re: I Used Cracked Windows 10 Activated on: October 06, 2023, 01:18:07 AM
Did you notice that you had to disable your Windows Defender to move the crack file? Some of these crack patches contain viruses and malware. We don't know if this spyware collects your data or not. It's not wise to use these cracks and financial software in the same OS. You can easily find cheap activation keys online. Windows has some resellers who sell those keys very cheaply. It's between $5 to $20 in Bangladesh. It is not worth taking such a risk for this amount. It's only if you are a Windows lover and you are friendly with this OS. Or you can move to Linux for better security.
1048  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Eng: Tutorial] PGP Signature - Encrypt/Decrypt message - Fingerprint on: October 06, 2023, 12:53:20 AM
Thank you for fixing the broken image links. I have been also looking for this. One thing I'm unsure of, it the guide up to date? The original thread is bit old. Is there any smartphone guide available? Many doesn't have any desktop devices.

I have tried the latest version of gpg4win and the user interface seems almost the same. There are some changes, but I guess you won't face issues understanding the new UI. If you face difficulties understanding something, you can post here and many members will help you including me.

About the Android version: Currently I am testing an Android, if I can do all the necessary steps with the app I am trying, I will share in this community. But I guess most of us use Desktop.

I suggest you complement it with your own experience in practising it, as in the past, mdayonliner wrote its version by using my thread PGP/GPG Signed Message - Public Key in Indonesian as a reference*.

In my thread, is intended for several OS with several methods and applications:

I have tried it myself. I have written a beginner tutorial in the Bengali version. Since the English version is already available, I did not want to write it again. I fixed the broken images instead. Moreover, I do not have several OS at this moment. But, I will try if I can.

1049  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Inspired Me To Invest In Bitcoin. on: October 05, 2023, 10:19:57 AM
Then you should have told this answer how to buy bitcoin without bank or government supervision. It will be very helpful for those who don't know much about this subject like me.
But I think, first of all we need the help of some bank or exchange for first time buy Bitcoin.
If someone wants to buy bitcoin in a new state, how can they buy it?
What is your opinion on that?

You still have options to buy Bitcoin without compromising your privacy. You have to search for it. It depends on where you are from. You can try platforms like agoradesk.com where you can buy Bitcoin without compromising your personal information. Even some centralized exchanges do not ask for KYC. You can check this thread No-KYC Exchange Encyclopedia by Ratimov. Currently, there are 49 exchanges listed that do not ask for KYC. You can find the best one according to your needs.
1050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Keep learning newbies, The forum has a lot to offer on: October 05, 2023, 10:06:57 AM
I do not suggest newbies immediately start learning Bitcoin trading instead of know the depth of Bitcoin. Their main focus should be explore the forum more and more and read. I didn't even realize when I learned things about Bitcoin.
While this thread exists: Stop discouraging people from Bitcoin...
It points out about trading and I reckon what you've said is that newbies don't have to rush to trade. Take a little step at a time and enjoy the exploration that they are learning while staying here. As this thread says, a lot of things have to be learned from the forum, there's trading but it isn't the only thing that they'll learn about.

Some people think Bitcoin = Trading and gambling. They think those are the only use cases of Bitcoin, while there are many other things to learn. People do not bother to learn why their transactions get stuck from time to time. People do not bother to learn that any coin named Bitcoin on another chain is not Bitcoin. These are the shitcoins. People do not bother to learn what wallet they should use instead of centralized exchanges. They use exchanges to trade and keep their balance there. Bitcoin enabled financial freedom yet we do not use it for that purpose. Bitcoin is not only for trading. If newbies already know about these, they are welcome to ignore it.
1051  Other / Meta / Re: Here is why Bitcointalk is a reliable source! on: October 05, 2023, 09:56:29 AM
I disagree. Signature campaigns has its advantages but I don’t think it’s the reason why users aren’t scamming. It’s like saying there are no decent jobs out there and that’s why scammers do what they do. In my opinion Bitcointalk has a low level of scam because the forum has a structure based on rank and trust ratings, in order to pull a scam successfully in this forum you would need to have a good rank and reputation. Those two do not come easy. It’s x10 harder to scam on btt than on reddit or other platforms.

Scammers will scam people even right before the end of this world. Even if they know that everything is going to be destroyed, they will scam others if they get a chance. I do agree that the signature campaign has an advantage, and it is one of the reasons why some potential scammers still did not scam anyone. You will see loan defaulters here from time to time. One of the lenders is "shasan" who got scammed by a bunch of high ranked scammers. It's because they were kicked out of the signature campaign and they were unable to make money from this forum anymore. Since they were unable to make money, they think the account does not have value anymore therefore they decided to scam him.

Abstract
Go to top

Many people do not have any clue about PGP encryption/decryption. It was same for me however I had to learn it the hard way. Explore the topic The BCT PGP/GPG Public Key Database: Stake Your PGP Key Here to understand why you need to know it. If you are an Electrum wallet user then I am pretty sure you have seen a signature link next to the installation file. You also seen a warning notification on the top which talks about a fake copy of Electrum.

Long story short, PGP gives you extensive privacy and you can easily validate the authentic source of your received file/text. In this tutorial we will learn...

# How to create PGP Signed message and signature
# How to verify a PGP Signed message and signature
# How to encrypt a message
# How to decrypt a message

Once you get a good grip of these 4 basics, I believe you will be able to grab the rest without having any further assistance.

A Better Understanding
Go to top

Before we start, it's gonna help you if I give you a brief. PGP consist of two Keys...
1. Private key <=== You need it to decrypt a content
1. a) You also need a passphrase, in other words a strong password.
2. Public key <=== You need it to encrypt a content

Think about a very sensitive message you want to email to your friend. You don't want any gov agency or any spy read the message. These people can easily access your email server. To avoid it, ask you friend to give his PGP public key. Once you have it then encrypt the message and email the encrypted message to your friend. Now only your friend can decrypt it because he knows the private key.

Warning: Do not share your private key and passphrase with anyone.

Create Encrypted Message Go to top

Before creating an Encrypted message we need someone else's PGP Fingerprint/Public Key Certificate. We already imported Public Key information for Husna QA. So, lets assume we will send him/her the Encrypted message. <<=== Please literally do not send him/her any message. Hack, s/he does not even know about this tutorial.

Exercises - Home Work

Welcome to the exercises section. Before we start, here is what you wanna do.
1. Create a New Key Pair with the following information

Code:
          Name: ex-<your bitcoinTalk username>
          Email: <yourBitcoinTalkUsername@BitcoinTalk.com>
i.e:
Code:
          Name: ex-mdayonliner
          Email: <mdayonliner@BitcoinTalk.com>
We don't actually want to use our real name and email address for these exercises. The username part with the prefix ex- will help me and others to identify that we are communicating with you.

2. Have your Fingerprint published on the online server. It's gonna help me and other members to access your public key for encrypted communication.

We will have two assignments to practice. I will think of an award later for the successful participants.

Assignment 1: PGP Singed Message and Signature - Coming soon.
Assignment 2: Encrypt and Decrypt Message - Coming soon.

Click here for my Fingerprint on the server.

Please feel free to ask any question in the comment. I will add them in here with the answer. If I do not have the answer then I will try to seek senior members' help or I will find an answer for your question. Make sure the question is related to the topic.

Husna QA: The topic PGP/GPG Signed Message - Public Key in his/her local language was the starter for me to start my learning. I am happy that I was good enough to understand the translation in English.
TryNinja: Provided some URLs which cleared my head to understand better.
hugeblack: Suggested the idea of adding some example PGP Public Keys.
All the members who were leaving their PGP PUBLIC KEYs all around the forum. Seeing these encrypted codes were interesting for me and finally I decided to investigate what was it all about.

Here is the pro tip: change the title to "Get merits by posting your PGP key and encrypted messages" and see the result. Everyone wants to earn merits, but we don't want to learn.
Changed the title LOL. Hopefully we will have some visitors on the topic 😉
It seems it worked a little. But not how much I was expecting. I guess because a lot of people don't know how to post their PGP keys!

Can someone past a good link of how to setup a PGP key, use the tool to sign a message, encrypt/decrypt message and files? Someone was asking for it in my PM. I know it is somewhere but I really do not know how to find it easily.

I knew a post, but the tutorial is broken due to imgur issue. The thread creator is inactive, and the thread is locked as well. I am thinking of fixing the images and copying and pasting the whole thread, giving credit to the previous creator so I don't get accused of plagiarism.

Edit: Here it is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469280.0

I have written a basic tutorial for my local thread users https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=631891.msg62944989#msg62944989 . There is a test encrypted message for you as well.

Quote

Quote

Protect the generated key with passphrase

Quote

Quote

The forum  is a good place for newbies to learn bitcoin trading if they are focused to learn,
Not for Bitcoin trading only, the forum is good for learning many things. Especially if people want to learn more about Bitcoin history and want to learn Bitcoin in advance. I used to know that Bitcoin is a crypto currency that can be traded and gambled. I didn't even know the supply of Bitcoin.

the reason why some newbies don't achieve to get knowledge that they are suppose to get is because they divided  attention that draws their attention.
Not only newbies, but almost everyone do thing where they are interested most. I want to learn more about Bitcoin but I do not miss when I see some games and rounds in the forum. I do not miss when I see a good promo. We always cannot stuck in a thing because we all have different interest.

The forum has lot of knowledge to offer to newbies that will help them to make food Good decisions on trading and to do right things and to be safe from scammers .learning in the forum have a lot of benefits in the forum for newbies if only they can be discipline to learn.

I don't know why you are too focused in Bitcoin trading. This is not the only feature Bitcoin offer. I do not suggest newbies immediately start learning Bitcoin trading instead of know the depth of Bitcoin. Their main focus should be explore the forum more and more and read. I didn't even realize when I learned things about Bitcoin.

I use to think am the only one that comes across this same question on RED, not on till i read between the lines and saw yours. If trading was that easy trust me no body will be broke, its not easy the psychology behind it is something else. And they will be thinking you dont wanna help.

No, buddy, you are not the only one who gets these questions. I guess most of the people who make their pocket money from the internet get this type of question in their real life. No matter how many, but they get the questions from friends and relatives. Sometimes people show their interest in what I do and they want to learn how to make money online.

Most of the time I do not show interest in teaching because I know they will waste my time and leave at some point. But when I get these questions from my closest persons, I cannot deny them sharing how I make pocket money online.

The ending is as usual. When I start to explain, they barely understand what I am talking about and they lose the interest very quickly.

Do you need that much wall of text to explain such a simple thing? Why are you posting bogus answers? I did not see any going point in your post. You are agreeing with something, and counter questioning your point of view in another line. Basically, you are adding more and more lines explaining nothing. We are talking about three business options here.

If you cannot add something new from your perspective, do not write shit that does not make any sense. I did not understand what you wanted to say in your post. If you do not believe me, ask others in this thread.
1058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need a mentor in my bitcoin journey. on: October 04, 2023, 12:20:07 PM
Honestly, I my brother-in-law didn't teach me what I know today because he only taught me about bounty campaigns until I stop joining bounties and learn about cryptocurrency by myself through research and asking questions here in thr forum.

Well, no one teaches you everything. If you do not have interest from the inside and cannot learn, no one will be able to teach you. Many of my friends ask me how I make my pocket money, and I share with them what I do in my free time. They know about Bitcointalk, but they are clueless about it. I explained to them almost what I was able to explain.

They don't think they can do what I am doing now. The reason is they do not have a genuine interest in joining the discussion. Most of the newbies join the forum with the hope that they will rank up their profile over night. I wish I had someone who teach me in the beginning.
1059  Other / Meta / Re: Here is why Bitcointalk is a reliable source! on: October 04, 2023, 11:53:01 AM
This is related to the economy of signature campaigns. I will not scam you for $500 because my account can generate an income of $800 per month, but whenever the signature campaigns stop, you will find legendary members scamming for $200, and the truest example of this is @yogg[2] Cold Keys scam[3]

This is true. Now we know some positive sides of the signature campaigns as well. People usually have a bad idea of the signature campaign because it generates spam all over the forum. When someone scams others for $200, they do not care about their reputation anymore because they know they cannot make money with this account anymore.

If we talk about the forum you mentioned, I have checked it, and it does not look good. I don't know why. Most questions had one answer, and some others had no answers. I guess it's not that much crowded.
