huge improvement on the old one that was pinched off a jewellers website lol
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who on earth valued feather coin so high on: April 26, 2013, 12:26:10 AM
tip from a noob

stop calling it FC
if it ever has a ticker then it will be FTC
also looks more credible and memorable next to BTC and LTC

also saves the constant confusion with that freicoin one

if this is a genius tip feel free to send me 5000 FTC  Grin

1044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPCoin is the only ALTcoin on: April 24, 2013, 11:32:48 PM
it's going to start with "P" coz the address starts with P

I read in another thread sunny has no interest in changing name
also would cause problems with the 'stock tickers' on sites and in past articles and threads

tbh 'pp' logo has done no harm to paypal!
it's short and easy to remember

having said all that, peercoin is a great name
but ideally if name was changed how about peoplecoin?
2 p's in that!
could be the coin of the people
more coins, cheaper, low energy

I also think, which may be contrary to what many here think, that psychologically
bitcoin wont go to the moon in price becuase it has to win over the public at large, and paying say $500 for a coin
is too much of a mindf*ck
also if you're buying a tshirt or whatever off someone online and costs $3 you can easily send 0.00001 say and miss a nought and pay 10 times too much!

too few coins was one of the big 'mistakes' in the grand design of bitcoin, but of course i guess they never dreamed would get even this far

i really like ppcoin though

btc, ltc, ppc only 3 worth considering just in my limited experience and reading

I'm not trying to be crass, but I am told by a reliable source that Porn is what got the internet video industry started, and BTC has unique value in this space - no awkward credit card statements etc. It is not a small industry.

http://en.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1c9wz8/what_bitcoin_really_needs_porn_vendors_accepting/

Thanks to the media i think it is just a matter of time until the porn idustry will use BTC too.
The porn industry is like the gambling industry, those two have the potential to attract a lot of people which will then help to spread the use of BTC world wide.

I think those two will definitely be the main early adopters
they always were in the history of the net and the anonymity angle

however theres still a lot holding bitcoin back from more general use
also i feel the price barrier is too high for the general public, psychologically

$140 currently, for a coin
don't worry, i get itm bitcoins and altcoins but the market is being manipulkated
the rxchanges and everything is not how it was designed to work
and ironically all the hoops people have to jump through and pay high fiat fees and processors to buy defeats the object

i'm all for competition to bitcoin
especially as it has attracted a lot of dark forces like bankers and winklevosses etc
who can all manipulate price, and are just doing that
1047  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Building your own ASICS device on: April 24, 2013, 12:36:48 PM
wow, and this thread from back in october
and still the companies not delivering and orders taking forever

did anyone manage to build out anything themselves?

are the old mining rigs on ebay even worth looking at now? for other coins where competition is less
1048  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have a weird idea about bitcoin... on: April 24, 2013, 12:32:59 PM
to disseminate newly created coins? I am perfectly aware that these would not be genuine bitcoins, and in fact, they don't need to be. It would be some kind of a fork.

Yes, litecoin uses "scrypt" instead of what bitcoin uses. it's totally different

not sure i understand this
what is 'scrypt'
is litecoin script very similar to bitcoin with just this difference?

as notice new altcoins tend to use litecoin as their model rather than bitcoin
1049  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you guys explain Bitcoins to a Non-Bitcoin User? on: April 22, 2013, 11:26:37 AM
still learning myself and the different platforms to trade myself etc

one thing I don't understand is how is bitcoin and litecoin etc hosted?

I don't mean the miners I mean the original script
is it hosted on github and there fore safe from going down or on own servers, the original script, or does it work differently
can't find any answers to this

thanks in advance if anyone knows

The original script is basically the blockchain ran on your wallet, so it's everywhere and can't be messed with.

K.

thanks a lot, thats a really concise way of putting it
cheers

1051  Other / Beginners & Help / where is bitcoin hosted and how? on: April 22, 2013, 10:13:46 AM
something i dont understand
forgive my noobness in this  Kiss

the original bitcoin 'script' or even 'litecoin' script etc

where is it hosted?

is it on github? or on another server?

what is it goes down or gets hacked?
or does it not work like this
keep reading about nodes and whatnbot but thought thats to do with the mining
the thing trying to get my head round is, is it like a website script in the sense it is continually running somewhere?

thanks in advance
1052  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: deposit money to btc-e.com on: April 22, 2013, 10:09:36 AM
'simplest' way I found was open a btc-e.com account
then there are various options to fund, some weird looking russian sites never heard of, so safest most established site I found was okpay.com
join there
verify account, just upload scan of drivers licence and other things they ask for, a bill etc
you get verified normaly withing a day or so

then fund account with bank transfer, takes afew days
when you click fund account via transfer their details are supplied and theres a unique identifier for your account
make sure when sending money to them this number is the refernce number
they will then fund your account into the wallet

if you're sending US$ it will go into say wallet 1
they do take some time, maybe 3/4/5 days to clear it
but from what i can see are a trustworthy site

once you have funds in okpay account
loginto btc-e and click fund account via okpay, go straight to okpay account and the money will basically instantly go into btc-e.com account
withing a minute or so

you can then start buying and selling

1054  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this a massive "correction" or what? on: April 10, 2013, 06:41:56 PM
the problem is all sites have substandard servers and infrastructure

go visit 5 main sites, all have different prices for bitcoin!

bitstamp,btc-e, mtgox etc
no-one knows true price so rumour control sets in

plus mtgox are handling orders hours old or longer
1055  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Within 1 week I think there's a small chance BTC will crash from $240 to $160 on: April 10, 2013, 06:36:27 PM
well in past 5 mins bounced up from 130 to 187 and climbing

mtgox is way lagged
1056  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: whats goin on with BTC? on: April 10, 2013, 06:24:40 PM
down to $130 on btce

im pretty sure this forum is under attack as slowest site i am visiting online today
1057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would you like to get your hands on some Bitcoins? on: April 10, 2013, 06:11:01 PM
is it free fractions of btc for signing up or just where to be able to buy them?
1058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: whats goin on with BTC? on: April 10, 2013, 06:01:33 PM
I think mtgox is under attack

btc-e.com is showing as $168 for bitcoins, having a drop but think there are multiple ddos going on from the chatter
sure will prob have a bounce back up in time
past half hour has been interesting watching
