10401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Lowering power consumption as possible on: April 07, 2021, 10:38:06 AM
Hi pip I'm running my miners on solar and batteries and I want to lower power draw as much as possible, I've remove two RAM sticks and only have one onboard, any other things I can replace to limit power draw?

Pc config

Dell optiplex 370 with core i5 CPU
1x 4g ram stick
Three 1660 Ti and one rx580

Sell the rx580 at a profit from what you paid for it.

It will save power and instantly put cash in your hands. Use that cash to pay the power bill on the gear.

Hoping you had the rx 580 for a while before it became expensive.

10404  Economy / Speculation / Re: Altcoins pumping like crazy - is the BTC Bullcycle going to out pump it? on: April 07, 2021, 03:01:36 AM
Hi guys,

do you have any thoughts about the topic?

I found it an Indicator in the last two Bullruns, that when Altcoins pump really heavy like right now, it can mean the Bullcylce might end soon.
What do you guys think, do you have Indicators for the end of BTC Bullcycle

Thank you guys.

Kind regards.
Hector

If it were up to me I would change the op title.

To my title.

Btw.

btc was 20k and eth was 1.2 k and bch was 2.2k. when we tanked in 2017.

based on those numbers eth need to be 3.6k and bch needs to get to 6.6k

which if history does repeat will be July or later.

More likely it tanks in feb or march

My rma powercolor 5700xt arrived today

I clocked it lower si nce I do not want it to break again.

Wainting on my 3070

How long was your whole process.  I had a Powercolor 5700xt go bad as well and they've had the card for over two weeks almost three now.  I emailed them and all they said was yes they got the card and they have to test it.  I guess they try to repair the card now since there's such a huge shortage of chips.

I entered at 2:43 eastern, its now 8:54 and no word, so I'm assuming I missed out again.

yeah just about the 3 hour mark.

did anyone win?

I got no word from them at all for the late night shuffle and I still haven't gotten a notice yet today so I'm guessing another nope.

I have had about 60-65

amd 5000
amd 6000
nvidia 3000 cards.

Two rmas since april 2020

an asrock 5500xt
the powercolor 5700xt

both were in the same two card case.

So i suspect a power surge killed them off.

the asrock and powercolor were shipped out to cali the same day

they arrived six days later.

the asrock 5500xt turned around really really fast 💨

under 12 days east coast to west cost back to east coast.

cards was in a nonstandard box. like an asrock mobo box.

works fine.

the power color said they would email me when they got it.
they did not email me.
asrock did give me a recevied the card email.
once the arock arrived on day 12.
i emailed power color
they said they would be shipping me one.
they did ship it.
i think full turnaround was 26 days powercolor 5700xt vs 12 days asrock 5500xt.

both these cards were purchased at msrp.  the power color was the last 5700xt i got at msrp.

I was able to finally tweak my asus strix 6700xt to 107 watts down from 155 watts.  and raise hash from 43mh to 47 mh

Makes the card a little better than the 5600xt's but not as good as a 5700xt

10407  Economy / Economics / Re: Why you can't be rich by owning crypto on: April 07, 2021, 12:53:04 AM
The value of Bitcoin have increased by 707% over the last year,  and the average deflation is 96%

As the value of Bitcoin increases, it's owners would have a reduced incentive to do their job, and they would retire at a younger age(since they would have enough money to live the rest of their life). This would decrease the global productivity, even if the demand remains same(or even increase due to increased wealth). This would in turn increase the price of all commodities almost at the same rate as that of Bitcoin(law of supply and demand)

So even if your rich, and your net worth is increasing with increase in the price of Bitcoin, after everyone have adopted Bitcoins globally, even your richness wouldn't be that much rich, since the value of the things that can be brought with those bitcoins would actually grow the same rate as the bitcoin(due to decreasing productivity)

The illusion that the value of your Bitcoin wallet is increasing only works when you compare it with other currencies, and if every other currencies go extinct, the only way to measure our currency is by number of things that can be bought for one unit(purchasing power)

I'm not sure if that's how it works, correct me if I'm wrong(I'm not really an economist)

Well there is some truth buried in the argument you make.

It boils down to the fact that btc will only make some people rich.

So you need to tease out your idea and say BTC can only enrich a small percentage of the world.

pretend that to keep coins flowing they decide to take back stale accounts. This could recover one or two million untouched coins. Much like a bank closes account that have not been used for 20 years or so.

Next thing is calulate the worlds wealth at 210 trillion. (easy math)

so in 20 years the world moves To 420 trillion wealth.

say 210 trillion is btc

21,000,000 x 10,000,000 is  210,000,000,000,000 or 210 trillion

or half the money in the world.

so if the coin was spilt even 21 million people with 1 btc  worth 10 million

that 10 million is worth about 5 million now.

What do i think would happen if 21 million people had 5 million right now.

It would be like you say wealth  would shift.

But what will happen is the 21 million coins will not be spread like  just said.

a few will have 100 or 200 or 1000  coins.

and a more will have 5,10,20

some will have .5 or 1

and a lot will be much smaller

so maybe only 10000or 20000 end up rich.

not 21 million

so huge demand will not happen since it wont be a huge amount of rich people .

Yeah if they come at the end of the notify time most likely you lost.

if they come in the first 2 hours of the notify time you have a chance.

6 to 12 east coast it the slot.

so we are 28 minutes into it.

I want the white gigabyte

It's okay didn't have time for bad vibes!! I'm super excited with going back to mining, back in mid 2018 had to quit cause I was out of space to mine and profit had dropped to almost zero so I quit, but left some unsold cards and now I'm very happy to go back to it!! Also needed extra pc for some minor other stuff so that's perfect.

The learning process from how to setup a rig, finding the right components, good deals on cards, to setting all up and actually mining was very difficult and also with a lot of headaches but totally worth it ❤️

I gave you enough merits to boost you up a notch.  just keep posting.

You were persistent . check
You did not get nasty . check
You posted results . Check

This time I am only selecting the 3070's and the 3090 (the Philip method!)

(usually I click on all of the GPU's and have never been selected).

Yeah I do not pick every thing.

I did not pick any Amd cards.

I only picked 1 3060 the evga as I have an evga so why not have a pair.
I pick a few others the 3090 the 3070

there were 21 picks to be made I picked 8 of them.

oh my asus tuf 3070 from last weeks shuffle  came today.  doing 59 at 120 watts
10411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer connected but isnt mining 0 hashrate issue on: April 06, 2021, 09:35:03 PM
Have your tried to reset the machine and build up from ground 0 ?

these are the steps i tried to do before posting

install official firmware
reset device
leave device open for 2hours
try to run board recovery tool from bitmain site

steps i did after i opened thread

installed vnish cfw
changed miner worker name from l3++ to l3a

boards still return 0 asic

is there any other step i can do?
i posted logs above

yes  can  mail me 1 of the dead boards and let me test it on my working l3 gear .

You only have 1 machine and

you may have 4 dead boards
you may have a dead controller
you may have an incorrectly programmed controller.

So you are dead in the water and need working gear to determine if your boards are dead.

I am usa based I am running 20 plus l3 and l3+ units

you have l3++ but the boards will work on an l3+ controller.

there is simply no way to help you without working gear being put into the mix

you can buy a controller on ebay

usa based

10412  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Price vs network difficulty on: April 06, 2021, 09:25:00 PM
2018 difficulty increasing from jan to about october was catch up to prices that skyrocketed in fall of 2017.

When gear caught up in oct 2018 difficulty tapered off.

At the moment gear is far far far behind price.   Tons of 3 month 5 month 6 month preorders are paid for.  If price were to drop to 50 than 40 than 30k difficulty would not drop for months to come. As the preorders are paid off and would be put into play.  They would over come low efficiency gear being turn off much like what happened for 8 months of 2018

10414  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 06, 2021, 12:05:48 PM
A bonus protip.. you do not become richie by selling your BTC.

Without selling any BTC how you will be rich then? Of course selling all will be stupid.. but you have to sell sometime... world still runs on fiat...  Sad (and Merc, GMC, Toyota, Honda etc)

Surely the implication of my above snipe is in regards to selling all or selling too much too soon.

Of course, also, there is a need to figure out a kind of balance, but in these times, there should be goals of figuring out accumulation goals and attempting to manage such accumulation goals.  Once you have achieved your BTC accumulation goals (and perhaps even over-accumulating) then you have a lot more flexibility in terms of selling portions or reallocating or whatever.

Bonus protip 2:  attempting to accumulate BTC by selling BTC is quite likely a very much inferior strategy to DCA buy, buy on dip and HODL -

Bonus protip 3:   Like any rule there are exceptions, don't automatically believe that you are going to be able to fit within the exceptions - until you have mastered and understood the basics first - which in BTC are DCA buy, buy on dip and HODL.

if all you do is buy to acquire BTC

DCA & buy dip HODL are best.

To think you can buy the Dip  sell the peak Wait for the crash and buy in real low is a pipe dream.

Even though I mine for most of my BTC

I buy dips on PayPal for PAYPAL btc
I DCA  on coinbase.

right now coinbase has a nice setup a $50 usd weekly buy and they give you $10 on 4th and 8th buys.
so 420 worth of btc for 400 via a weekly DCA of eight weeks.

10416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: price of this on: April 06, 2021, 04:26:33 AM
Yeah lately there are many scams popping up on Craiglist like this. Its either some fairly priced GPU at MSRP or some "amazing deal" on some second hand GPU. Now I understand that most people don't want to overcharge people, however usually when people sell something they look at recent listings and usually put in a price somewhere there.

When someone prices something way too low it can mean a few things. First might mean its damaged. Second might mean they need to sell it quick just to get cash quick. Third reason could be that the GPU doesn't exist and its some type of Paypal or other scam.

If you want to confirm, ask the seller to provide a photo with some custom text, if they do provide it. Then chances are they own the GPU and aren't scamming. However I would  be very careful either way.

One paypal scam they do is say we will send it to you by blank shipping and give you tracking.

the tracking will say label made but package not dropped off.

You have to get a refund and they got to use your 900 for eight- ten days.

10417  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If you had 4,000.00 USD, what would you invest in? on: April 06, 2021, 04:11:41 AM
Are you willing to lose that $4,000? I'm just in doubt honestly because it was a big amount for a newbie to start in crypto and especially during this bullish season.

Anyway, This is only I could suggest,
Spread your funds to different coins, not only for Bitcoin. It is too late for you to start investing in Bitcoin, it is already at its peak and anytime it drops again making to lose your investment. It could be safe to have some altcoins then as for back-up if the case like that will happen, will never know.

I don't actually have 4,000.00 dollars to invest in. I own six different types of crypto but they're in amounts of 5.00 USD or 10.00 USD. However I'm slowly saving up 4,000.00 USD so I can do some more serious investments in the future. So far, I got 1,200.00 saved up toward that goal. I'm hoping that by the time I have 4,000.00 to invest in, I'll know what to do with it. Smiley

Do not save money until you reach 4000.

 just dca your coins.

Dollar Cost Averaging. in your case take 50 bucks and buy some btc .  do it 24 weeks in a row.

At the same time save money on the side.

after 24 weeks see what you saved.
see what the btc you bought did.
come back here and post your totals.

I'm fading fast.  Soon as Baylor wins I'm crashing.  I'll be asleep when the "you finally won" email comes in, and I'll miss it.  Why are they so late lately?

They are shifting the times way early and way late.

I watched my mets lose. baylor killed gonzaga.

well at least the yankees won.

I've been off the grid for a few weeks so I haven't' entered any shuffles for a while.  I'm back now and I'm excited to pick up my 100% "not selected" track record right where I left off!  LOL

I have been holding down the streak while you have been gone.  Still at 0fer on the shuffle myself.

You will get one today Grin
