10441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.11.0 forcing to re-build/download the blockchain. on: October 06, 2015, 08:43:38 AM
Some times by mistake my pc gets shut down by a family member without the Bitcoin Core client gets closed first. Once I open the client, it forces me to re-build/download the entire blockchain while the entire blockchain is already in its place. What can I do to prevent it from re-building which costs nearly a full day?

Always close core first before you shut down the machine. Let the little window say "do not shut down until this is gone" finish before you shut down. If you do not follow the advice the programm gives you its database might corrupt and will need to rebuild. On a slow machine it can take several days, but it will not download the blockchain again. It uses the local data.

I understand that I have to wait till the little window has gone before shutting down my computer. It's a family member of mine who is shutting down the computer without closing running applications first. I explained her everything and hope it will now not happen again. I always thought it was downloading the complete blockchain, thanks for pointing out it uses local data.

I have the same problem as you a couple of times. What I do now is that I always copy my "blocks" and "chainstate" folders to my external HDD every week. So in the worse case scenario, I could copy the files back from the external HDD and re-download 7 days of blocks. It does not solve the problem but at least ease the pain.

Yeah, some one adviced me to do the same. It saves you a lot time and frustrations. And beside that, you always have a copy of the full blockchain with you.
10442  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Gemini opens 08 Oct for trading!! on: October 06, 2015, 08:24:16 AM
Why havent the price gone up already!

The price won't go up that quickly just because Gemini exchange is launching. It will take some time for this exchange to settle and win customers from all over the world.

At this point they only accept customers from the USA. I hope they will start to roll out their service to the entire world very soon.
10443  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Bitcoins.co - Bitcoin Domain Name? on: October 06, 2015, 08:19:08 AM
LOL at offers of 0.25 BTC etc.

I was reading the posts and laughing my cock off

What's so funny here? This domain is a good domain but if there isn't a price listed, people will offer just anything starting from 0.01 and up.

I have bought several domains for what people consider peanuts (below $50) and sold them for well over a thousand USD per domain. If you don't try you will never know  Wink
10444  Other / Off-topic / Re: General Football Discussion - 2015/16 Season on: October 06, 2015, 06:51:15 AM
this was awesome weekend with football matches arsenal win over MNU Barcelona lost real madrid played draw with atletico.
this was really good weekend

Arsenal made United look like an amateur team the first half, they couldn't do anything. Now you once again see that Depay and Blind can't keep up at this level.
10445  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the final US Marshals auction produce a pump, a dump, or a flat price? on: October 06, 2015, 06:46:26 AM
I think not much will happen at the beginning and that the auction winners will mostly hold their coins till at least before or just after the halving, and then dump them. With a bit of patience they can make themself a good bit of money.
10446  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-10-06] US Marshals to sell the final part of Silk Road bitcoins on: October 06, 2015, 06:44:01 AM
After this there aren't anymore coins left to be auctioned. That's a good thing. I don't think it will do much with the price at the very beginning.

Perhaps that all these coins will get dumped before or just after the block halving as it is likely to see the price go up considerably by that time. Only time will tell.
10447  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-10-05] Winklevoss Bitcoin Exchange Gemini Approved for Launch in New York on: October 06, 2015, 06:37:34 AM
It's good that they are finally going to launch their so much waited for exchange on thursday.

I only hope Europe will get included as soon as possible, can't wait to test it out, and see if this exchange is really different from the other comparable exchanges as they name it The Nasdaq of Bitcoin.
10448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you consider this as a possible threat to Bitcoin? on: October 05, 2015, 06:28:33 AM
We already know the Chinese miners have a advantage over other miners in the world, namely cheaper electricity.

We also know that the halving will happen in 2016 and most miners will struggle to make a profit and they will quit mining, if the price of Bitcoin do not increase with the halving.

The only people who might still make a profit, will be the people with the cheap electricity or those who has some sort of edge over the rest.

This already happened when ASIC's were introduced, and most CPU/GPU solo miners left the mining scene, because they could not stay profitable and compete with the people

who used the ASIC's.

Let's say this does happen, and we are left with one nation or geographical area dominating the mining scene, will this not be seen as centralization and a possible weak point?

Another scenario could be, where say Finland create some sort of new ASIC chip or new technology that is capable of doing much more calculations and they then decide not

to export it to other nations and just dominate the mining scene. The difficulty would increase and the people with the old technology will be pushed out of mining in theory.

Do you perceive this as a possible threat? Or just the natural evolution of Bitcoin?

While I do tend to agree with your points, I also do find it a bit doomthinking. I personally don't see it that much as threat.

One way or the other, there is and will always be a certain part of the world dominating the mining industry. Especially when several large mining farms decide to halt their operations as they struggle to make profit.

Money always wins, whether we like it or not. The only thing we can do is hoping current non Chinese mining farms will continue with their operations also after several more block halvings.
10449  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gentlemen, i think it's safe to say we're the new halving elite on: October 05, 2015, 06:09:38 AM
I hope we are more than just the halving elite. But yeah, people who aren't holding till Juli 2016 are going to miss out bigtime.

Holding Bitcoin is always the best option, especially if you can buy them at current price. Investing and making profit can't be more easy than it is right now  Wink
10450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price gap between bitcoin exchanges; Regulation of BTC-E and others on: October 05, 2015, 06:04:11 AM
Ah, the age old question...
Look at arbitrage bots. It takes longer and costs more money to move fiat in/out of BTCe than any other site. So much so, it becomes fruitless to arb into a perfect equality with the other exchanges. Maybe not 5-7$ per BTC worth of fees/time, but why bother for that last 25 BTC?

Where there is disparity, there are bots to gain from it until the gains are not worth it anymore.

Yep, that's also why I solely deposit BTC in my BTC-E account in order to have some fiat there. Bitstamp is the only exchange I deposit fiat into from my bank account, because I know they handle it very well.

R.I.P , I had this problem aswell and I was left by two choices , suicide or change the wallet . I prefered to change the wallet of course.
Check my old thread here and see the answers that people gave me : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1129075.0
I personally recommend you switching to a SPV wallet like Multibit HD or Electrum since it dosen't require downloading or reindexing with the blockchain and you won't hurt your PC that way like I did .

I really like Bitcoin Core as it allows me to run a full node, for me this is the most important thing of the wallet. Some one in a chat recommended me to make a backup of the entire blockchain into an external hdd, and just copy and paste it when stuff like this happens, this way I can do it within 20 minutes instead of a full day.

10453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT an MLM kind of ponzi on: October 04, 2015, 09:40:59 AM
There are no shortage of people on here who freely admit to treating it like a pyramid scheme. They can't wait for a new wave of buyers to offload on. That doesn't mean Bitcoin is inherently dodgy but it's always been many things to many people.

Sound like typical pump and dump to me. In way is it a ponzi but such is the way of shady stock dumping. I wouldn't call BTC shaddy but the value is fidgety and the current true value is probably lower than the current ticket says. So i'd be very careful with holding BTC right now.

I can't help but feel it will crash by a big chunk at least once before it truly stabilize.

Big crashes will happen anyway, whether people consider Bitcoin a ponzi or not. Exchanges are part of the problem as they from time to time try to cause panic as that generates a huge load of volume. Currently exchanges have much lower income due to the low volume. You can expect them to shake things up quite hard from time to time in order to get people to panic sell or buy. It's a business after all.
10454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you do with your idle coins? on: October 04, 2015, 09:32:13 AM
I have coins sitting in my cold wallets from 2013 till now doing nothing Cheesy I absolutely don't care if my coins aren't being used. I rather leave them there than investing them.

Keeping them has a lot more potential to give you amazing returns rather than investing them onto something which could possibly scam you or run away with your money. In this kind of ecosystem that we have, it's really better trust your own self with your own money rather than asking someone to keep/multiply it for you.

People always look at how they can invest their precious Bitcoins in shit coins or scammy cloud mining sites. They don't realize that holding Bitcoin is an investment already. Holding Bitcoin is the best possible investment with the least risk. And the best part is that you have your own coins in control.
10455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SyriaRelief.org is accepting bitcoin donations. We should help! on: October 04, 2015, 09:21:46 AM
to be honest early adopters should help the most, not us noob with few btc, and i doubt there are early adopter left here

maybe i'll start donating when the price of bitcoin will skyrocket...

Regarding donating in general; being rich doesn't mean you should help out people more than others. Whether your wealth is $1,000,000 or just $5,000, people must donate what they can afford. Most rich people don't donate to charity organizations. They start their own charity and put a certain amount of money in it to help the people who need it the best they can.
10456  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next target: 260-270 on: October 04, 2015, 07:07:43 AM
Looks like it's on the rise. I expect 260-270 as the peak of this rise.

but to me it looks like that we are stuck at this level of price and going to stay at $230 range for a very long time. I think it even can last until next year without any significant change.

I have the feeling we'll see an attempt to break through the $250 level next week. If that's going to happen, we might be sitting there for at least a month without much movement. There is no point in waiting for significant news anymore. It won't do much for the price unless Amazon or another company equally as big announces it will accept Bitcoin payments.
10457  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we still early adopters? Or did that pass after 2010/2011? on: October 04, 2015, 06:55:08 AM
Bitcoin may not succeed and become what we want it to be but.....

Considering the % of the worlds population that are aware of & own/use bitcoin then I'd say we could still be early adopters.

If bitcoin doesn't succeed then you can totally forget what I've said but if it does then even owning 1 bitcoin could make one a very rich man. This is all pointless at the moment though because we don't even know if bitcoin will gain mainstream adoption.

The current amount of people who are actually using Bitcoin is very low, yes. If you just look at that, then I agree with you that we can still consider ourself early adopters. The thing is that not every one is interested in it while they kinda know what Bitcoin is. For mass adoption there need to be a certain demand for the average Joe's to use Bitcoin alongside fiat currency. If that doesn't happen, then they won't see the need to use Bitcoin.

10460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do you believe with bitcoin on: October 03, 2015, 01:41:39 PM
Bitcoin is the only currency that can compete with real money today. So I believe that bitcoin can soon becone world's currency. Lookvat my name. I am true believer of bitcoin.

No bitcoini s real money already, its just a new type of money that is so new not all people understand it fully. I do.

Bitcoin is anything you want it to be. If you want to use it for buying and selling stuff, online and in real life, then it is a currency. If you want to keep a certain amount of fiat into Bitcoin then it is a store of value.

At this point it can't compete with real fiat currency, and that shows as governments still haven't fully banned Bitcoin as they don't see it as competitor for fiat currency, yet. If the time comes that Bitcoin is getting too close, then governments will play it hard to ensure Bitcoin stays small.
