10541  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info stole from my wallet 175$ on: September 14, 2017, 10:24:33 AM
It is impossible for them to hack you. All of your information happens on your side, not theirs. It is possible there was some sort of glitch on their side. If you contact them and they discover this they'll refund you.
10542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it better that China just gets out of Bitcoin? on: September 14, 2017, 10:17:30 AM
I am having mixed opinions on this at one point I do wish China gets over Bitcoin and we all have peace, no more after effectes, no need to worry about the dragon burning fire on bitcoins, but then again a counter view is that China is a huge Market and we just can't let this go off suddenly, there will be heavy casualties if this happens, the electricity rates, the mining industry we don't have any other country to step up and till then we sadly need Chinese help.

If Chinese mining stopped tomorrow we'd have a period when BTC was painfully slow and then the difficulty would readjust to allow non Chinese miners to take up the slack. There are plenty out there. Bitfury had over 20% of the hash rate at one point and they're nowhere near China.
10543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does this buyer look safe to you guys? Looking to sell, then buy back in. on: September 13, 2017, 10:11:31 PM
I'd want to see several thousand trades, with hundreds or thousands of Paypal specific feedback, and many, many years of establishment before even dreaming of taking that chance, and even then I wouldn't do it.

That seller does not cut it.

If you're looking to sell and buy back in why aren't you using an exchange? That's what they're for.
10544  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Sites like casascius.uberbills on: September 13, 2017, 09:53:26 PM
There's a full list of every address on Mike Caldwell's own site, though the security certificate seems to have expired. It's not going to list whether something's still funded or not but if you know an address you can check it.

10545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Euphoria not reached? on: September 13, 2017, 09:48:10 PM
It's going to be many years before you see investment banks - A - actually having a vehicle to get on board, B - thinking it's a good idea.

That'll be the equivalent or more of the dotcom bubble. We're nowhere compared to that stage still.

There's been no shortage of euphoria in alts. Perhaps Bitcoin attracted the last gasps of that euphoria before it all goes quiet again for a while.

10546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: cryptopia.co.nz is safe or no? on: September 13, 2017, 08:21:25 PM
I've used it for a couple of things. They seem to have a lot of wallet maintenance but other than that it's been solid for me. Volumes are pathetically low though so you may not be able to fulfil your whale dreams.

The market you named has a grand total of 10 LTC volume per 24 hours. You couldn't trade anything but pennies without destroying that market so it's pretty much pointless to use.
10547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it better that China just gets out of Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2017, 06:46:50 PM
I can't think of anything constructive or beneficial that China has brought to Bitcoin. There are no developers, the zero fee exchanges fucked Bitcoin for years and the mining situation has fucked it even harder in terms of spiritual corruption.

At the same time a proper ban would be a very useful case study in proving how impossible it is. I approve of China banning its arse off because of this.
10548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are signature campaign scarce? on: September 13, 2017, 05:45:09 PM
China has nothing to do with anything when it comes to signature campaigns.

The truly successful sig campaigns occasionally outgrow the need to do them. Coinsbank is an example of this.

Others are closed to new posters permanently as they have more than enough users to pick and choose from and they stay put anyway. Others like Bitmixer simply end their business.

And there seem to be many more short term ones, especially ICO related ones. They're quick bursts of marketing and nothing else.

It should also be noted that the ICOs the Chinese government is getting uptight about are largely unknown and unavailable in the West so there's no overlap.
10549  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cheap Bitcoins! on: September 13, 2017, 05:34:11 PM
Perhaps it's better to sit back and let it unfurl rather than pile in? Other metrics like Localbitcoins volumes are still very high, but they can stay high with a much lower price too.

It doesn't matter in the long run if you're a believer, but you might get more for less if you bide your time.
10550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 12, 2017, 07:24:56 PM
Here's an interesting theory

https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/6zkn8m/daily_discussion_tuesday_september_12_2017/dmwx5ye/

China will be introducing their own Tether and forcing the exchanges into that so they have much more control over who and how much can be pulled in or out.

I would hate to be a Chinese citizen.

One day we will all be Chinese citizens so keep your social credit rating high by not writing such blasphemous things.

Here might be your cause of the dip.

Ridiculous FUD from The Guardian (UK)

Um, is there anything they've written that isn't correct? Even the crustiest tosser could take a look at the ICO scene and figure out it's almost entirely a crock of hopeless shit.
10554  Economy / Economics / Re: Mental barrier stops from buying BTC on: September 12, 2017, 04:10:25 PM
It is a very interesting question for anyone who's been here a while to ask themselves. If I was fresh to Bitcoin now what would I do?

I'm not completely sure how I'd approach it. These price levels are still extremely fresh. It always boggles my mind how quick people are to forget where it was sitting just a short time ago.

If I'd done my homework properly I would probably settle on buying a set amount per week or month, which is indeed what I should've done in the first place as I'd have plenty more BTC for the same outlay.

There's no doubt plenty of epic action to come in the future but perhaps it's going to enter a period of consolidation mixed with minor falls. Then again I think I predicted the price would be $260 by now a couple of years ago, partly for fun.

A $200 bitcoin feels like it has more potential than a $4000 but people could be wrong about that. At $200 it could easily have dwindled to nothing. At these levels something has clicked in more minds, though I don't know what it is.
10555  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin wallets on: September 12, 2017, 03:58:53 PM
There's no such thing as a tiny fee wallet. There are wallets that let you decide the fee, and wallets that don't. At this point in time it's pointless using a wallet that doesn't let you control the fee as their own settings are so out of whack.

If you have an Android phone then Mycelium and Coinomi and no doubt a few others let you control the fee now. If you have a PC then Electrum does too.
10556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big blockers exposed: $500,000 moved with a $5 cents fee on: September 12, 2017, 03:36:40 PM
It's not as bitcoin was advertised originally, was it?

Then whoever advertised it advertised it incorrectly. That's always been the case.

When people turn up here moaning about how it was billed about being free and instant I have to wonder whether they bothered to check how it works before taking the plunge. A fee market is definitely premature but it's inevitable and necessary as is costing the amount of data.
10557  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Law To Declare Bitcoin Ownership on: September 12, 2017, 03:29:21 PM
Where I'm at you have to declare Bitcoin when you receive welfare benefit but that's because they're giving you free money so they shouldn't have to if you're otherwise loaded.

There's no obligation to declare ownership of anything where I'm at so I don't see why crypto would be any different. If there was then I wouldn't bother and I'd probably leave the country as it was the start of a slippery slope.
10558  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it legal for an individual to create a crypto currency in the US? on: September 12, 2017, 12:26:38 PM
The sensible developers remain anonymous just in case, but I think it depends on the definition of currency. As a pure guess the US government probably regards crypto as a tradable asset and there are no rules about creating them.

The creator of ETH travels to the US happily enough and there's never been any talk of him having broken any law. No one's claiming they're legal tender. They're voluntarily awarded value.

The most obvious case of someone actually being prosecuted for creating a currency in the US is this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_dollar_(private_currency)

So this is where the Legendaries and Heros hang out. It fells like walking into a bikers bar for the first time. Some interesting conversations tho.

I'm here for the big men in leather too. Do you want to get better acquainted out the back?
10560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big blockers exposed: $500,000 moved with a $5 cents fee on: September 12, 2017, 12:12:30 PM
The block size debate has not gone away, it has just been postponed till the number of transactions increase and the blocks start getting full again.

Which can happen at any time at the whim of the blockchain spammers. It would be wonderful to have purely organic transaction pressure but there'll never be such a thing. I suspect we'd be years away from $1+ fees if such a thing were possible.
