10561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are all altcoins dependent on Bitcoin? on: July 21, 2021, 05:11:38 AM
BTC is not the foundation of altcoins because altcoins have its own usage and market value. Bitcoin has the highest value altcoins thats why if its price drop or increase it will affect the other altcoins as BTC is the main crypto currency in the wolrd.

In theory, altcoins have their own unique usage. But in 90% of the cases, they are just used as a mode of payment, or as a store of value (especially with stablecoins). And with so much competition in the payments sector (and where the recent growth is minimal), there is a lot of overlap between the altcoins and Bitcoin. Since both of them are used for the same purpose, the exchange rates will also remain closely linked. On top of that, the user profile is also very similar. It will be very difficult to find cryptocurrency users who exclusively use either BTC or altcoin. In the vast majority of the cases, they will be using both.
10562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are meme tokens dangerous or moon on: July 21, 2021, 04:57:48 AM
Well i dont see the any reasons that could explain that meme tokens are going to the moon. The last pump is only because the tweet from someone famous like elon musk. There is no value behind it and even vitalik butterin just happily sell it and make it dump so hard. I do believe many meme coin are useless and you should not invest on it cause it pretty dangerous, most meme coin have an anonymous developer which i dont think good cause they might be run away and also not credible enough to take as a reason to buy the meme coin.

If the pump just results from a single tweet or support from a celebrity, then it is not going to last. The situation can change however, if some of the promoters take an active interest in the development and make the coin acceptable to ordinary cryptocurrency users. And in case of Dogecoin, I am yet to see any such effort from their part. The promoters and large holders seems to be blinded with the sudden influx of wealth that landed in their hands, after the 100x bull run they had in the last 12 months. They are least bothered about the long term survival of the coin.
10563  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Convince me that bounties paying in anything other than Bitcoin are worth it on: July 21, 2021, 04:29:32 AM
Bounty hunters are always at the receiving end whenever a project fails. All of their time and effort put in to the campaign goes to waste, if the project fails to achieve the soft-cap level. This is why previously I had proposed a minimum payment (can be very small like BTC0.001 or 0.01 ETH) for the bounty hunters irrespective of whether the project manages to achieve the soft cap or not. But then, the ICO promoters are going to oppose it, because it will add some financial burden. But look at the overall numbers. If a project is targeting for a soft-cap of $50 million, then they should be ready to spend at least 0.1% of that to the bounty hunters, right?
10564  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC has fallen below 30,000. Is there still room for appreciation in the future on: July 21, 2021, 04:15:32 AM
My opinion is that there is a good chance that Bitcoin can go down all the way up to $10,000. That would mean 85% drop from the ATH levels reached earlier this year. But back in 2015 and 2018, we had similar dips (exactly at 85%). The vast majority of the users remain bullish and they remain unprepared for extended phases of correction. In the near future, the exchange rates may resume the bull run and may even attain a new ATH. But before that, the prices may bottom out, at a certain level below $30,000 per coin.

Suresh Raina just started a huge controversy in Chennai, during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). He casually said that he is a Brahmin, and therefore he could adjust in a better way with the Chennai Super Kings and it's players/staff. Twitter users from Tamil Nadu were furious, given the widespread hatred against the Brahmin community in that state. IMO, there was no need to create such controversy over a casual comment. CSK is owned by a Brahmin and a majority of the Tamil players from that state are Brahmins. Raina would have got the impression that Chennai is a Brahmin dominated city.

10566  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tokyo 2020 Men's Olympics Basketball Tournament on: July 21, 2021, 03:52:26 AM
If we check the record from 1992, it can be seen that the United States has won gold 6 out of 7 times. That gives a probability of >83%. The only occasion when they failed to win a gold was in 2004 (Athens Olympics), when they finished 8th in the group stage, and then lost to Argentina in the semi-finals. The 2004 team was perhaps the weakest ever sent by the US, but even in that tournament they managed to defeat Spain. But looking at the squad they sent to Tokyo this time, I believe that the chances of an upset (similar to what happened in 2004) is minimal.
10567  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and middle class as a mentality on: July 21, 2021, 03:42:28 AM
They're not payments, they're tax credits which offset taxes owed, which means you only get them if you have income in the first place and they reduce the amount of tax you pay.  You can't have 0 income and just get money for having kids under the program.  Also, the US under taxes to such an extent that nobody has a "large majority" of their salaries taken away in the form of taxes.  You have to be an extremely high income earner to even approach 50% tax rate and live in an area with multiple levels of high tax rates.  In other words, you built a strawman argument of a situation that exists very infrequently in reality, and in the specific case of people paying a "large majority" of their income in taxes, not at all.

Even in case they are tax credits, there is a need to have a maximum limit on the number of children who can be used to avail this benefit. I would limit it to a maximum of 4 children. It is not fair, for the American tax payer to subsidize someone with 10 children, while an average tax payer family struggles to afford 2 children. And the proposed plan from Biden (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) is not just limited to tax credits. It includes Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as well as direct cash payments. The latter group makes for the majority of the expenses.
10568  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: July 21, 2021, 03:29:49 AM
If I'm not mistaken, this was called Social Ending. Can you imagine how scared scared people were when the first local transmission occurred in your country? No one wanted to go outside, the road was very quiet, people were really following the rules while also being scared of the virus. Now, imagine people are not scared anymore. Because they are losing money, the government wants to open the economy. They want to open the economy because their funds are insufficient to sustain the people. When the Delta virus struck our country, only the areas where the virus was detected were placed under lockdown.

Before the second wave here in India, the governments tried to portray COVID 19 as an infection that would cause harm only to those who are above 60-70 years of age. And in many cases, it was true also. Because for the original strain, the mortality was measured at <0.10% for the age group below 30 years. But that changed with the arrival of the Delta strain, which had a much higher mortality rate for the young and middle-aged people. Also, it was much more contagious, and you could be infected even if you are wearing a mask.
10569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 21, 2021, 03:10:06 AM
Winning a match like this is truly unexpected with lower order batsman (actually bowler). At some point I was thinking that India will loss the game but Deepak Chahar just nailed it! It was a close match like Bangladesh & Zimbabwe second ODI. Both team had equal chance to win the game during death overs. I think India will get an easy victory on the 3rd ODI match.

LOL.. who would have imagined that Deepak Chahar would top score for India (with the bat)? I don't want to take anything away from Chahar. But Sri Lanka has a lot to introspect, if someone like Deepak Chahar is scoring at a rate of 10 runs per over against their mainstream bowlers. The only exception to the carnage was Wanindu Hasaranga (10-0-37-3). And this is how Sri Lanka performs against an Indian side, which lacks many of the top players (they are currently based in England). Sri Lanka is also missing most of their regular players (due to completely different reasons), so it gets complicated.
10570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 21, 2021, 03:00:03 AM
With a strong batting lineup England has even though all of their players are in the team they will win easily, Pakistan surprised with one match and that is more than enough to expect from them and in this match England only need 61 runs to win in 54 balls with 8 wickets in hand and if Pakistan had a potent bowling lineup they once had then i might have given a chance but not anymore.

Although they managed to win only one match, none of their defeats were one sided. And that gives them hope. Pakistan has performed at a level much better than teams like Sri Lanka and South Africa (which recently lost an ODI match to Ireland). Outside the big 3 + NZ grouping, Pakistan seems to be the strongest team. And in UAE/Oman they usually have home advantage, because when Pakistan was unable to host matches, UAE used to be its home venue. But do they have a chance to win the world cup this time? It's a difficult question.
10571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: China Has Ordered All Financial Institutions To Cut Crypto -Related Services on: July 20, 2021, 04:35:22 AM
Whenever there is news of China's suppression of virtual currency, the market will be affected, but I think that China bans mining, and most miners move out of China is beneficial to Bitcoin in the long run. The market will not remain sluggish, and the impact will only be temporary.

More than 95% of the mining equipment is produced in China (Bitmain, Canaan.etc). Unless we remove this dependency, the mining sector will always remain overdependent on China. The mining operations can be shifted to Kazakhstan or Russia. But what you will do without the mining equipment? And from what I have heard, the crackdown has impacted the rig manufacturers as well. Now this definitely doesn't look good for the long term. Also, as the hash rate gets lower, the chances of an attack against Bitcoin goes up proportionately.
10572  Economy / Speculation / Re: I speculate Tesla has sold their coins on: July 20, 2021, 04:21:31 AM
Tesla earnings report and conference call will be on July 26 according to tipranks.com.

https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/tsla/earnings-calendar

I reckon it would be a victory for the community to hear Tesla report that their bitcoin holdings are on a loss after 6 months of hodling hehehe. Tesla’s average buying price is $34,200 according to this article.

https://coinmarketcap.com/alexandria/article/revealed-how-much-profit-tesla-has-made-after-buying-bitcoin

It would also be another victory if Tesla sold with a loss. Elon destroyed his own company’s balance sheet.

Don't look at the short term benefits. If Tesla sells BTC at a loss, then in all probability that will make sure that none of the other corporations would consider Bitcoin for their financial reserves at least for the next 10 years. There are many ways to get back at Elon, but I don't consider this one as a viable option. It will do more damage to the cryptocurrency sector and Elon will not face any real impact. And I don't think that Elon is responsible for the slide from $62,000 to $30,000. He might have started it, but it got amplified as a result of other issues (such as the ban in China).
10573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will BNB become the king of all coins on: July 20, 2021, 04:10:36 AM
it's still too early to expect BNB to go that far, maybe what BNB can do is beat ETH first, because actually BNB's growth is due to the shift of ETH users who are already fed up with the problem of expensive transaction fees, if we expect BNB to be the king of all coins at least he has to grow to be able to shift ETH first.

BNB has a long way to go, if it is going to offer competition to the top altcoin (Ethereum). Although some of the newer projects are preferring non-ETH chains such as BSC, the established projects are all in ERC-20. Despite the high transaction fee and delay in getting confirmations, most of these projects are not planning to move to other chains. The advantage with ERC-20 is that it is a well known chain, and has widespread acceptability. Competitors such as BSC are way below Ethereum in terms of acceptability.
10574  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC is helping out Cubans and Venezuelans on: July 20, 2021, 04:00:23 AM
Indeed, with their inflation rate Bitcoin is a real life saver. It's good to know that Bitcoin is popular among people in Venezuela, which makes it, if I'm not mistaken, in top-3 countries by Bitcoin usage.

LOL.. Venezuela in top-3? Do you have any proof to support this absurd claim? As far as I know, the top 3 countries in terms of Bitcoin volume are - United States, Japan and China. I don't think that Venezuela ranks even among the top-10. Bitcoin is getting popular in Venezuela, but the average holding per capita and the overall trade volumes are quite low. On top of that, it is not 100% legal there. The government hasn't created any regulation, to legalize cryptocurrency in that country. In Venezuela, Bitcoin remains in the grey zone.
10575  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tokyo 2020 Men's Olympics Basketball Tournament on: July 20, 2021, 03:50:48 AM
+2500 on Australia?

I think the odds are definitely way too skewed in the US's favour. There is a lot of youth and inexperience on the US roster, and they have definitely shown weakness when it comes to exhibition games.

It is never going to be a good option to bet in favor of the United States, because they always underperform in global tournaments. Remember the 2019 Basketball World Cup? I lost some money betting on them. They were touted as the strongest team in the tournament, but lost to France by a big margin in the Quarter-finals. But I agree that during the last Olympics (2016), they had such an enviable record. They destroyed Serbia in the finals by such a huge margin (96-66). The format was different last time. They went for 2x6 grouping, compared to 3x4 that we have now.
10576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: July 20, 2021, 03:40:18 AM
It's not worth taking the USA, with that odds, that is very low although USA has been so consistent since they have been dominating. I would rather bet on China with 6.50 odds as they always make surprises. Your $1000 will win $100 for US bet, while your $100 will win $650, I'd take the latter all day.

The odds are so unfavorable, because the chances of China toppling US is very minimal. If you are talking about one or two individual sports, then there is a chance of an upset. But here we are talking about the medals tally, which combines the outcome from dozens of sports and disciplines. Upsets occurring in the majority of these sports items is impossible IMO. Even with -900 odds for the United States, I would happily make a bet in their favor. Because their chances are not 90% (as the odds imply), but greater than 99%.
10577  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: July 20, 2021, 03:30:11 AM
In my country Bangladesh price of food growing every day even Evey hour.  Due to some political issues, corruption and instabilities of politics, poverty and nature clasters responsible for food price hikes.

Is there any solid reason for the hike in food prices? From what I can see, the national currency (Bangladeshi Taka) has remained stable (in terms of exchange rate) for the last few years. Also, Bangladesh produces most of it's food, as it is one of the leading producers of rice. So what is the reason for this price increase? And from what I have heard, Bangladesh is having a stable government, with the prime minister Sheikh Hasina in power since 2009. I thought that the situation was improving there.. looks like I was wrong.
10578  Economy / Economics / Re: FBI aims to keep valuables, $86M cash confiscated in safe deposit store raid on: July 20, 2021, 03:20:17 AM
I am not an expert on the law or anything but even if there was an express order to not do so if the FBI uses the patriot act to justify their actions they could get away with it, so let this be a lesson for anyone reading those articles, the governments can decide what is fair or not and change the rules as it suits them, so centralization will always be a point of failure and if you have some valuables to store like gold, jewelry and other stuff never do so in safe deposit boxes.

I am also not in favor of safe deposit boxes. But as mentioned in the article, many of those who kept their valuables are those who don't trust the banks. They also had the option of storing these valuables at home, but then it will make them vulnerable to armed robberies and home invasions. From what I know about this incident, the business mentioned here was operating with all the necessary permits and licenses. The issue arose when one of the promoters was arrested for involvement with drugs trade.
10579  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 20, 2021, 03:10:34 AM
Not only Sri Lanka, but also Bangladesh's performance in the last two years has been bad. And if their experienced players Mahmudulla, Sakib, Tamim and Mushfiq retire, Bangladesh will be in the same situation as Sri Lanka. Because, they have not yet been able to produce young talented players for the replacement of Sakib or Tamim. Compared to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Ireland and Afghanistan have improved a lot.

When they received the test status in 2000, Bangladesh was regarded as much weaker when compared to teams like Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. But they made some progress over the last two decades. They are not yet at the same level as teams like South Africa, but improvement has been there. Also, there is enough depth in the talent pool. The main issue for them is that they are overdependent on certain players such as Shakib al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mustafizur Rahman. This weakness can be alleviated only by reforming the domestic cricket.
10580  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 20, 2021, 03:00:44 AM
Trent Boult might have given away runs once in a while but overall he is a much better bowler and he proved that multiple times playing for Mumbai Indians and if he could perform the same then he could trouble any batsman in any conditions, there are some outstanding players for New Zealand and when they are in form they can be unstoppable irrespective of the condition and England has players who have a strike rate above 100 in ODI and they can change the game as well, so you cannot underestimate these two teams because they are playing in spin wickets.

If you say these about Australia then i would accept because i am not expecting much from them in the upcoming World Cup.

Many of the top performing pacers in the IPL are from New Zealand (Boult, Jamieson, Ferguson.etc), and I have a feeling that it may not be that difficult for them to adjust with the conditions. The IPL (scheduled to start by September) will give a good idea, about which players are currently in form. Also, I would not write off Australia. They always perform well during the ICC tournaments (opposite of India under Kohli, who always struggle to win trophies). And T20 is such an unpredictable format, and even teams like Pakistan and South Africa have outside chances of becoming the champions.
