10561  Economy / Speculation / Re: [NEWS] The miners are hoarding on: May 11, 2020, 02:27:42 PM
The only reason miners dump like this in the past was because price lagged behind for months. It'll likely end up the same way in this halving but if the unlikely happens and we see a new ATH (for example) in weeks, then oh, those miners gonna be dumping hard. Along with every other speculator who bought in for short them x2!

It's a sustainable plan because they all dumped at ATH 3 years ago and have been living on those profits since. Or the cost is not as high as we're led to think?
10562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency TV series appearance on: May 11, 2020, 01:08:21 PM
Not the first thread, but to sum up most threads I've seen:

- The Simpsons among earliest popular shows
- Dope probably first movie with bitcoin quite central to the plot
- and this gem from my local film scene called "Special Force" has the guy keeping all his stash in bitcoin... in a suitcase. Clip on FB taken down oh well.

I couldn't care if any of the portrayals are accurate. We still have films saying "uploading to my phone" or "downloading to you" all the time. People don't care;)

@coinfinger I've been seeing Sportsbet and Bitcasino (their sister brand) doing a LOT behind the scenes, also in support of Covid-19, and I think it's fair to say that they've really done a show of agile business and still managing to stay very human in the midst of it. Gamers like us, we're not unaware of things like that =)

@Steve: holding only the deuces. We could call that the Steve strategy;)

@jayce: I was so hoping Liverpool would get our revenge over Real but then we got KO'd by their main rivals, so I actually don't mind a replay of that '14 finals, but at the next stage (QF) instead. Can't bear Real getting another trophy to their already bursting cabinet =(

The moment you have a scene like this one happening in Vietnam:

Even Coronavirus Couldn’t Stop the 2nd US Carrier Visit to Vietnam

I think it' becoming pretty clear how much of a threat China is perceived as.
An US carrier docking in a Vietnamese port and the marines welcomed with applause and flowers is something nobody could picture in the '80s, yet it's happening so it proof how much of a threat China is to some countries. Yeah, for a lot of people the US is the evil rotshcilian bildenbergian reptilian overlord but compared to what China will bring to those, just look at how much they care about their own allies they don't give a damn, there is absolutely no country in this world that has flourished thanks to China.

One more note, it's not the US drilling and taking away at penny prices Irak's oil, it's China!

Yep, I remember in the 1990s Chinese-descent people in my state still spat at Japan. The last communist troops only surrendered in 1991 if you can believe, that's just how deep the jungle is and how long the propaganda machine rolled and how hated Japan was for their occupation, I remember that very well. But today? Amazing.

Once a new generation grows up never having to go hungry or jobless, or pick up arms against invaders, they forget. But there's something to be said about the current global economy, and how millennials probably now for the first time are seeing it for what it is. What exactly that means for Bitcoin, hard to say.

I would add though, that absolutely no country in this world has flourished thanks to any kind of imperialism or colonialism or external meddling.

Thank you so much for appreciating my work, it is a pleasure working with you!

Let me know if you are still going to continue the next project. Just PM or DM me in Telegram! Thanks for the feedback! Cheesy

Also a pleasure, good attitude to work, you'll do well, just keep at it. And yes, I likely have a bit more for you but as I mentioned I'll need a few weeks to get back as there's some stuff that needs setting up first and loads of old material that needs digging up. I dedicate my weekends to these, very busy, but we already have each other's contacts.

Good luck to the rest of your work!
10566  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Correction in the next days? on: May 11, 2020, 07:31:34 AM
It was likely a proverbial dead cat's bounce, and we are going to do that again and again in the coming days. Just testing waters now, I guess, like if there is enough support for a tasty and refreshing long squeeze, the BitMEX style. Let's call it a false bottom (buckle up as we come falling through). So whoever bought in may be forced to sell out at the end of the day
Suits me, I always say. I'm really not prepared (or shall I say, not well-endowed in BTC enough) for any kind of big move this whole year. I've already been forced to sell for economic reasons, so chipping away at savings. Dead cat's bounce though, didn't that use to mean the bounce before the final nail in coffin? Suppose these terms take on new meanings in crypto.

What's your end game for bitcoin? For crypto?

Vatican is second to none

Oh, definitely second to the not-so-eternal supreme leader.
10567  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Meme-worthy slots winning reactions (with poll) on: May 10, 2020, 07:25:36 PM
@mu_enrico thanks for the rundown, I knew the RTP for slots would be something like this, since I know house edge is typically above 3% for slots but had no idea there were some ways to speed bet. I knew someone who had some slot machines (illegal) in the 1990s and he showed me the electronic settings that you could push even above 10% house edge. He'd do that to rack up the JP and then lower it to about 3% just so someone would hit the JP.

It's a bit crazy to think that 96% RTP isn't bad, but I guess 99% RTP has given a slant for relativity!

P.S. Poker and dice are what I spend a LOT of time on. But I imagine slot players play for hours if they have a large bankroll!
10568  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Correction in the next days? on: May 10, 2020, 06:01:46 PM
Well, it looked more like a 20% correction

Regardless, things are going along the path that I had outlined more than 2 years ago. As Bitcoin's market supply is limited and will be even more limited after the halving, we should expect evermore insane levels of volatility coming. In fact, since the beginning of 2020 we have already witnessed the effect I described in that 2017 thread, though I didn't really anticipate it to reveal itself at these prices

Crazy days, but we'll see crazier yet!

Will glass coffins be a success? Remains to be seen

Ah right, I just opened the charts properly and saw the 8111 low. Lucky whomever bought that dip, as we're back at 8800 now, which made me think it was the 10% drop rather than the almost 20%. But you're right, if anyone thought volatility was going away, they're wrong. Add in the extenuating economic circumstances and we're going to see more Black Thursdays and traders will be encouraged to go in and take advantage. More broken hearts.

Glass coffins? Disney did their best!

Countries in Southeast Asia are still very thick with the practices of corruption, collusion, and nepotism. And many officials from private or micro corporate backgrounds are given the task of managing macroeconomics so that what they have in mind is just economic growth without thinking about nationalism so that when China launched colonialism 5.0, many Asian countries did not have a state work frame of resilience and instead welcomed it by hand open without an antidote strategy.

In the relation between countries, the framework must be the national interests of each country. Defense approaches must take precedence over economic approach because it is related to the sovereignty of a country. Many government officials failed to read the Chinese grand plan. The country should be on guard not to be annexed by China but it turns out for the sake of economic growth, the country's sovereignty is at stake. Whereas in China the three warfare concepts clearly show the ideals of Chinese colonialism and Chinese steps in implementing its colonialism.

https://warontherocks.com/2018/01/chinas-three-warfares-perspective/

Many Asian countries should think whether they have already eaten the Chinese trap? or already trapped and just waiting to be skinned. With its own diaspora, China is already a threat coupled with an OBOR program and an increase in China's military strength.

It's really unfortunate that a lot of nation-building in our part of the world happened more or less in the same period, since our colonial masters withdrew also more or less in the same period -- and this was the same moment China began to reconsider looking outward after centuries of closing itself in from the outside world.

And it's not just in Asia but in the global south. Much of African development is now Chinese-funded, I didn't believe it til I saw for myself. Soft colonialism? I know it's just business in the end for everyone but with digital yuan coming on board, it could be bringing repercussions most countries don't see yet.

At least Bitcoin is one dissenting voice. Even if it won't be enough.

I was wonder, how many of us here did re-watch some top class games from the past ? I did it a few times with re-watching the UCL Final from 2006 and 2007, I've also re-watch the ending of 2009 dramatic game between Chelsea and Bayern when the referee clearly stopped Chelsea from having a goal and a win( Still remember Ballak running like crazy after him trying to explain what happened ) and I've also re-watch my team Steaua Bucharest winning UCL final against Barcelona in '86, what a game it was.

I saw the 2005 UCL final, it was from when UEFA started posting classic games to rewatch in full. Amazing to rewatch and see all your heroes relive those moments. Did you watch the 86 game when it was live? I only saw my first live football on TV in 1998 (world cup) and this was even before I saw Liverpool live for the first time.

I had seen some Road to Wembley finals in the 80s and 90s but I remember no details as it was super early morning and my grandfather would swtich the TV on... except THAT song which I still remember so well from the FA Cup!

Greetings buwaytress,

I just finished the first portrait you have sent to me via telegram and I am still working on progress on the second digital portrait. Expect that I will be sending the High definition copy of the drawing to the email you have sent to me yesterday in the next few hours  Cheesy.

It is also worth to mention that paying in full amount of the commission is very much appreciated  Grin

Well received, Maus! I'm not much of an artist but I think you gave fair value for the drawings I commissioned. Thank you! I haven't opened my email to see the hi-def photos in my email, but from the ones received in Telegram, I'm happy.

P.S. Happy Mother's Day!

Newbies gamble, but they'll learn the hard way like ME. Haha!

Plus I believe it's part of "The evolution of a Bitcoiner". They come to "get rich quick", then learn more about the basics of the protocol, learn different concepts/theories/debates, THEN stay for the revolution.

Haha, I haven't learnt my lesson in all my time gambling. Every time I think "Ooo, I've gotten smarter and more disciplined about this thing, good for me!" I go and do something random and stupid and blow something on a session. But hey, we gotta pay for fun!

P.S. I actually came to Bitcoin because I had nothing to do for weeks in bed. And then actually used it when I wondered if it could help solve a really frustrating money problem (it did!). Now I did get into an ICO or two with the "get rich quick" hope in 2017. Sue me, I'm a gambler =D
10573  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Correction in the next days? on: May 10, 2020, 08:43:32 AM
Hey people. Are you expecting a correction in the next days. A lot of talk about a price dump around 10% before the halving starts. How serious can this be?

The big price moves almost always happen against the expectations of the crowd

That's basically one of the reasons why the majority of wannabe traders are losing in the long run. The correction will come, as any bull run inevitably and inexorably ends with a bull trap. And if history teaches us anything, this is a given. But we don't know when it is going to happen and at which price levels. But we can be certain that it will be brutal once it starts. We will likely see something like the flash crash which occurred in March but it won't be as short-lived

Yup. There we go, no 10% price dump and instead, a 10% bump and just 2 days to go to the halving. And then today another 10% dump to where we were 2 weeks ago. Pure psychology at work here, little much else, no knowledge or willingness to look at fundamentals just pure "it's getting scarcer!" buying.

Crazy days, but we'll see crazier yet!

@JanPriX Oh I just took the SB special, I did some very very amateur research and the picks look good actually.

And here's my multi, a bit of an idiot that I forgot to boost =(

I very very seldom pick 1.2 if it's not Liverpool in football but I went with my gut/random liking for no reason.

Nice post, OP, I don't get livestreaming so much but I get people like the craziness of this if I had. No idea this was a thing even, and because I'm too lazy to click on all of them, what were the respective prizes they won, and how much (probably more important) did they already bet on slots? I've never enjoyed slots, always see it as a big money eater with no real appeal other than the JP. Then again, I play the lottery so I'm one to talk!
10576  Economy / Economics / Re: Money History - Introduction to Ancient Exchanges on: May 09, 2020, 04:07:18 PM
History of money indeed. Some important milestones right there, but that's also missing out on a lot of the other types of money used in various cultures and civilizations throughout the world. Barter, by the way, is making a comeback in some communities -- I know one near me that actually does barter, and there are a whole lot of other money systems being used and experimented now (paying it forward, which is basically not an exchange but a promise to "spend" elsewhere using not cash but in kind).

Before the gold standard and the current US dollar standard, we also had the "daler" or "thaler" silver standard used in Europe and their colonies in the New World (where the dollar got its name from by the way!).

Took a look at the South Korean offerings and they look good on paper but I've got this thing about not betting on stuff I have no clue about (though the lockdown has made me dip toes every now and then). J-League I'm 10% familiar, only because of AFC (who else is waiting for that to resume too!) but I'm going to sit tight and wait for Bundesliga.

Who here is hoping for Dortmund to blow Bayern and Leipzig out of the water? I'm going to go in on Gladbach again, they dropped a bit, but if they can reclaim that same early season boost with the restart, who knows?

And yes, I'm doing UFC tonight because. I can sense some power!
10578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price could reach $ 100,000 by 2025 on: May 09, 2020, 02:03:59 PM
I still find it so amusing that two years ago, people were throwing around ridiculous 500k and 1m figures by 2020. And now, they're actually using 2025 and the bare minimum 6-figure sum? And this is the most bullish we can see? What happened to outlandish claims? The scene getting boring now?

we can only see things like this when the time comes. however, 2025 is still long enough, and people are focused on the development of bitcoin prices in 2020-2021.

I came in 2016, so it's just four years plus since and a lot has changed already. A LOT. Can't imagine how it will change in 5 years from now. Just as those in 2011 couldn't foresee 2016 (and no, price predictions aren't seeing the future).

I'm a freelancer and I'll be the first to say it's not going to be easy, it takes a lot of patience. Years to build up and daily maintenance and upgrading of skills, and still you have to deal with non-paying clients, impersonation, etc. Not to mention no benefits, pay your own tax and insurance etc.

BUT I do believe in helping people get to where they want to be. I'm a writer mainly, specifically good in non-profit development project work, and also in journalism. So my offer is, if you're also looking to do work in a similar field, and want to talk to someone with a lot of experience striking it out alone, you can contact me and I'll find a bit of 1-on-1 time to talk to you. We can talk about what you want, where to get free resources to help your work, where to get free training, free education, how to encourage people to pay in bitcoin. Might not help you get fed, but it's for yourself to improve your chances of getting fed.

Send me a PM with your questions and a way to contact you. If your PM isn't serious enough or you can't bother asking properly (that's at my discretion), I'll likely not respond.

10580  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Halving about to make a major move? on: May 09, 2020, 12:22:49 PM
Well, a bit disappointing to see price fall back so quickly. I'm not hopeful of price going up beyond halving but I half thought that we should have seen a push farther up once the 10k barrier broke. Maybe we'll need to see 2 more tests before halving, but there's not much time left now. If the major move's coming, it's gotta be within the next 2 difficulty adjustments (3 weeks).
