I myself can't even believe that I used to play an average of 18 hours. It is literally almost restless. And there is one day, if I remember it correctly, it is almost or more than 24 hours of me playing. It was up and down session. I don't think that the period that you are referring to can be considered a new era. I believe there are lots of factors to be considered before you can tell/declare a new "era". It must meet these factors.

Well gambling sites (casino, sporstbooks, etc.)  considered as an investment so it is definitely bound with profiting money. It's not free to create, launch, manage, and maintain a gambling platform.
