Yep, Sapphire R9 290.  Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Linux, legacy drivers, beta drivers, WHQL Drivers, various SDK's, old cgminer, new cgminer...nothing seemed to help.  It was like they were possessed!  None of the tuning techniques that work so well on the 7950 and 280x series seemed to work.  Good riddance! :-)

Rudyo, I was just thinking about everything you've said and the fact you've experienced both the 7950 (which were the cards I was previously looking at) and the R9 290's....

Do you genuinely think buying 10x 7950's is a smarter move in terms of £ efficiency too / all round? ;/ Will save me about £1300 on the upfront cost of the GPU's too

Awww I plan on picking up 10 of them off a guy around 45mins from me, I think he also frequents this forum, and he said they are pulling 850khash each, he is also going to be showing this to me prior to purchasing them so i can confirm that this is the case. If not, I guess no go lol, but I don't doubt what hes saying and sincerely hope this to be the case!

But above all, I am keen to know what you think in terms of hash rate / value for money?

Thanks in advance!

Sev

Hi Sev,
The best value in terms of hash rate for money is actually the R9 270 @ $179/ea.
I recently switched the recommended graphics card in my 6 GPU  mining rig build guide from the 7950 to this card, due to the unavailability of the 7950.
You can stick six of these cards on one $230 1300 watt PSU for 2,700 Kh/s, which makes it an efficient and inexpensive rig all around.

Hi Miningguide, ty for reply, much appreciated.

I've actually managed to get a great deal with someone for 10 brand new r9 290's here in the UK.

Cheesy
Good luck with the R9 290's, I found them to be a very fickle GPU as far as mining goes.  They didn't respond well to OC'ing and very small changes in any of the setup parameters seemed to make them less stable.  It felt like I was balancing on the head of a pin...while riding a unicycle!  I gladly sold all mine and went back to the 280x series which is a dream compared to the 290....IMHO.

Were you using saphires?

id do 0.25 for the 4 furys.

altogether? No can do sorry =)

not sure why so many people are paying and asking over the odds for used hardware these days when you can get new cheaper.... too many people got to much money for xmas. 1ghs is worth around 0.6 these days... never mind also let me know if anyone pulls out im always looking for mining gear (mostly usb block erupters right now)

Hi VM,

I would sell everything listed above for 2.4btc. I haven't had anyone firm up there offer with me yet as i'm getting a lot of umming and arring. I would include shipping from the UK with that too.

Regards

Sev

sorry your way way way out of what im willing to pay. even for uk based hardware. 13ghs blades are only going for 1.1 and im only after the erupters for a matching mining collection. if you get your prices then fair enough but my offer for all devices wonto above 1.1 as for me its simply not worth it iv just seen 40ghs go for 1.3btc

Fair enough, fully understand.

In the UK the markets are a different story I guess, but if your UK based too then you will be familiar with what the hardware costs over here and also what online retailers are selling at. Best of luck with purchases Smiley

I can't really point the finger here too much because I never completed a trade with this guy

but user 'Agsic' messaged me asking if i was interested in 2x 7950's at a reasonable price. We exchanged some PM's and then when I said to him 'i take it you are happy to escrow' he flat out refused.

So i said okay, good luck with sale.. to which his response was...

If you can see that i have been honest on much valuable trade, than you can be ok without escrow.
I have traded several times sending first to guys who can proove their previous deals, no problem.
I am no Junior, thanks for not wasting my time, i am 53 years old succesfull man with more than 300000$ income, in my postion and status i have no time and interest to be unfair to anyone. I am giving 10% to charity aswell.
I am open to do our deal, if you decide to agree on my terms, if not, have a succesfull new 2014 year.

Tell me I'm wrong, but he sounds like a nigerian prince....

thanks and watch out ;]

The seller "deposits" his coins to me.  I then wait for the buyer to send me the payment.  Upon receiving payment for the coins being sold, i then transfer the payment cpoms to the seller, and the sold coins to the buyer.

My job as escrow is to ensure security for the seller.  In other words, if the purchasing funds for the coins never come, the seller gets his coins back and noone gets taken.

Consider it a leap of faith.  But ask yourself, why in the heck would i want to destroy my good name over such a matter?

Honesty and transparency is all i ever want associated with my name.

Thank you for explaining Smiley

are any coins other than bitcoin used to trade or buy things or services with?
I only know one that merchants in some numbers are starting to accept and that is litecoin all the other altcoins still have a long way to go before they become a currency so far they just here for speculation and tulipmania comes to mind, especially with some of those coines that can not even be mined

and ow yes everybody here just spamming the coin(s) they own

Doge has a lot of services emerging at the moment
