1061  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Securing the Future of Crypto and Blockchain: A Look at Security and Compliance on: July 24, 2023, 09:28:44 PM
we must acknowledge that security vulnerabilities can still emerge at various levels, including exchanges, wallets, and smart contracts.
Exchanges is not a vulnerability of Bitcoin but of a third party service which people for some reason trust enough to hold their bitcoins.
Wallets are vulnerable, which is shy we should use an open source wallet which is non custodian.

In this context, compliance is a vital factor in building trust and legitimacy in the eyes of regulators and the public.
You do not need the regulators or the public to consider it legitimate, you only need to convince Bitcoiners who use it and has seen the value in it.

As we journey through the ever-changing landscape of crypto and blockchain, let's recognize the significance of security and compliance. The blockchain's inherent security advantages offer a strong foundation, while compliance efforts strengthen trust and acceptance.
Bitcoin does not change much, it still very much operates now the same way it did when it was just launched and it does not need to fit into the regulatory standards of the government.
And you do not need to copy the hashtags from the article along with the write up.

1062  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How do big exchanges take care of cold & hot wallets? on: July 24, 2023, 09:17:51 PM
Does anyone know where and how do they store their wallets, what kind of backups do they do, how do employees gain access on cold wallet in case there is a necessity?
They should have multiple secure backups held by top people in management and maybe a third party storage firm.
Employees do not need access the cold wallets.

Overall, who keeps the keys or seeds.
I will be very glad if anyone competent talks about it. It's a very interesting subject.
These are sensitive questions that users here will not be able to answer. These big exchanges cannot reveal the exact modalities of their storage without compromising on security.

1063  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How about decentralized community blockchain marketplaces without escrow? on: July 23, 2023, 07:26:13 PM
There could be some rules set in place such as the user must have a certain amount of positive feedback before they would be able to sell.
They will need to sell something to get positive feedback, so how will they be able to get that feedback if they cannot sell without it?

I Think using escrow would give the buyer unfair privileges over the seller. In my decades of experience buying and selling on the internet it is usually the buyers that tend to be the more problematic users of online marketplaces.
Using escrows protects both parties who can be malicious in their own way. Sellers can try to sell sub standard products and buyers can be too demanding on what they expect.
The way your suggestion can work is if you have all sellers registered and the buyers have a return policy if they do not get the product in the quality that was advertised.
You will be acting as the escrow in that case.
Note that writing consecutive posts as you are doing is against the rules of the forum.

1064  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: July 23, 2023, 05:33:50 AM
...so support recommended I download the wallet to another device and I did, to my cell phone on May 31, from the Apple store. I believe that my account was compromised when I entered the seed phrase on  my Iphone. What do you think?
Except your iPhone was compromised there is no way to know if your wallet was breached when you imported it into your mobile device.

The time frame between you importing the seedphrase and the wallet hack announcement is very close and since they probably released an update late it is very plausible that their system malfunction caused you to not be able to send you EOS coins out.

I think Atomic being a closed source wallet should not be used, along with other closed source, custodial wallets.

1065  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030 on: July 23, 2023, 05:22:51 AM
Alright, I am clear on the security aspect. It is sort of how products have a best before date when they should be consumed, but taking it after then is not immediately hazardous, but we cannot imagine that FUD about bitcoin being unsafe will not becomes very popular very quickly if there is any suggestion that it is not as safe as it used to be.

Can anyone explain the final bit about transitioning to a new algorithm not being too difficult?

You know that there is no forum ad again, but sometimes you can see meaningful information there to read and I saw it.
True, some of the factoids[1] contain witty and educative messages.

1066  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How about decentralized community blockchain marketplaces without escrow? on: July 23, 2023, 05:10:40 AM
An escrow does not necessarily have to be a real person checking in on both parties to ensure that a deal goes smoothly. It can be a smart contract or any other means of ensuring that both parties which are involved in the trade get what they bargained for out of it.

Attempting to create a marketplace without escrow means that both traders are trusting the other person not to scam them with no cushion to protect themselves should they get swindled.

1067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking FUD magazine is now also available in German! 🇩🇪 on: July 23, 2023, 05:02:59 AM
I flipped through a few pages of the magazine and it was a good read. The only downside was it was difficult to make out the words on a computer and I can assume that it will be even more difficult to do that on a mobile device. My suggestion is to make it appear more like an article and not the magazine look it has now.

what makes you so unique because I'm sure that there are millions of articles already doing this maybe even more.
You are greatly overestimating if you think that there are millions of articles out there which paint bitcoin in a good light and debunk the propaganda around it. The number becomes much smaller when you check how many of them actually give reliable information.
We should encourage as many writers as possible to talk about bitcoin from an honest point of view cause we have very little of those around.

1068  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 22, 2023, 07:09:16 PM
If there is one thing I am picking up from the KM saga with PSG it is that the next club he goes to has to be very cautious that he does not pull the same card with them if things are not going his way.
Typically when player or coach comes with so many off field antics it douses their impact on the pitch and causes disunity in the club. The bigger the player, the bigger the hole they can leave in the team.

Madrid is a much bigger team than Paris Saint Germain and they will not put up with the attitude he is giving now should he make a move there, such a move might be necessary to keep the player grounded, being in a team where he has to fight for his place in the first team and has so much history that he is playing catch up.

1069  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: July 22, 2023, 06:52:24 PM
It is difficult to speculate who will come out on top in the laliga next season and it is not between Barcelona and Real Madrid there are other good teams in the league who have made some good signings this window and will be battling for the title next season. If I am forced to predict I will put my money on Barcelona winning again and also doing much better in the league than they did last season and the season before then.

Real Madrid are still monitoring the transfer situation between PSG and Kylian Mbappe. If they can manage to bring him to the capital this window or the next, they will boast of the most talented young side in world football at the moment and will be unstoppable for the next decade or so.

1070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Every Bitcoin holder Should Take a Cybersecurity course on: July 20, 2023, 07:52:23 PM
Enrolling in a course does not mean that one is gaining knowledge about a particular subject. Instead of recommending that bitcoin holders take a course you can suggest that they learn about how to properly secure themselves and their coins which does not need them to register to a course for. I personally have learnt a lot from this forum more than I have learnt from any course or eBook I have used.

it lies on you take a cybersecurity course to learn sophisticated ways to protect your non-custodial wallet that has your coins.
You do not need sophisticated ways to protect your wallet, if you follow the most basic steps you will be able to keep your wallet safe.

1071  Other / Meta / Re: Is it okay to create an off-topic discussion thread? on: July 20, 2023, 07:38:31 PM
This is according to my understanding of the forum rules: you cannot create a topic with local rules that conflict with the global rules of the forum.
You technically can if you self moderate the thread. Anyone commenting in a self moderated thread is going with the local rules of the author of the thread and it comes with this message; This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic.

I am not aware if mods still delete replies on self moded threads that contradicts the local rules the OP stated.

1072  Other / Meta / Re: No referral code (ref link) spam on: July 20, 2023, 07:30:39 PM
Afaik, referral rule is tolerable if you're the exclusive referrer, it could be because you're an authorized (provable) representative or you personally don't benefit from the referral. It doesn't always have to be posted in the OP.
If the user is spamming the referral links being the exclusive referrer will not make the situation more tolerable. The manner of approach of the user is the most important factor when considering if a referral constitutes a spam.

In the past I came across some referral invites issued by only one user being allowed because the company/service runs an event, regular users of the service can't generate the refcode associated with the event.
Those likely got posted in their signatures or slipped into posts inconspicuously.

I have not experienced this before, but I have experienced something strange on my profile. That day I opened my profile, but what I was seeing was a different username...
This is a weird situation. Are you certain that your computer tab was not opened to a different forum user and you came in to meet it? This for me is the only situation that can make you see a different username.
But you are an experienced forum user and would have been sure of what you were experiencing, and have to had been a major glitch on your account.

1074  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Bitcoin Hard Wallet Point of Sale on: July 19, 2023, 07:50:35 PM
I was just considering this idea for the last few days and wondered why many hardware wallet merchants never open a physical point of sale?
The demand for a hardware wallet within a certain location is not so high except you are living in a country with a very high adoption rate for bitcoin. An online store which can deliver to different locations is a much better business strategy that running a physical store.

I understand that there is little clientele to sell to but they could also expand the items for sale or include Bitcoin courses.  All in all, I find it so interesting.
That is taken up a whole business plan besides the sale of hardware wallets,

1075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I save my brother by investing in btc now? on: July 19, 2023, 07:36:01 PM
Bitcoin does not help to raise money urgently, that will be a loan or gambling or ponzi schemes (which I will not advise you do). Bitcoin is a long term investment where you invest all at once or gradually at different times and wait patiently for it to reach a particular price.

Running a GoFundMe will be a much better way to raise some money for your brother's condition or looking to take a loan.

1076  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does Decentralization Geeks also Trade using AI? on: July 18, 2023, 06:11:44 AM
There definitely is privacy risk in automating your trading process entirely as the creators of the bots and AI tools will require administrator access to function and that means they can steal your information and also your funds.

If you are trading on a centralized exchange, you are already exposed to a privacy risk, but that does not mean you can take up more risk as that exposes you even more and to newer, low reputable services.

I always seem to never get here in time before you to help some members rank up (with the little smerits I got). So I dropped some you can redistribute to other members. It is probable a drop in your pool but is my little contribution for the great work you are doing here.

If I'm correct I miss a few post and one merit for a rank up Smiley
Yes you need 2 posts to take you to 30 activities and one merit.
The posts you can easily make, but the merit will be more difficult, your one liner posts and gap in activity does not help it too.

1078  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 17, 2023, 03:07:30 PM
The latest news circulating says that Harry Maguire will not be chosen as the captain of the Red Devils starting next season and that further strengthens his reason for leaving Old Trafford.
This is no longer a rumor the player himself has confirmed it through a Twitter post in the late hours of yesterday;
After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.

Since the day I took on the role, three and half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honours in club football. I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful - on and off the field.

I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.

Harry
There has always been doubt about his place in the United lineup next season and I foresee a transfer out of the club over the next few weeks. Hopefully it does not become a protracted transfer liek the David DeGea saga.

The Kylian Mbappe and bernado SIlva situation are the two most interesting ones today. Both players seem interested in life away from their current clubs and the rumors have stated in previous transfer windows. It will be key to see if both end up being rivals in Laliga, joining Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

1079  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why non-trader beginners prefer to leave their BTC on CEX? on: July 17, 2023, 02:45:18 PM
But did you heard any news in which DEXs have returned the assets of those who was victimized in any hacks or bankruptcies like FTX and MT-GOX. In my knowledge i didn't come to know about such news. IF you also have no answer then how can you say not to trust CEXs but DEXs (i know you didn't said to trust DEXs but there is only CEXS or DEXS so if you do not rust one then you definitely is suggesting other)
No one says trust DEX, we say do not trust any platform with your keys no matter how reputable. Decentralized exchanges is the umbrella phrase but it is referring to a P2P platform where the exchange at no point in the transaction holds the coins. You are trading directly with the seller and do not need to trust either the exchange or the other trader, you just have to verify the protocol being used.

Not every DEX is recommended. Check at https://kycnot.me/ for a list of different ones and the pros and cons of using any. What you should be looking out for is which offers non custodial wallets and is open source, then the privacy feature and other services.

About refund process, while it is unknown for many decentralized exchanges, you should bank on it on centralized exchanges either. MT-Gox scam happened years ago and I cannot point out anyone who has admitted they have received a refund.

1080  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investors, what metrics of BTC you constantly monitor? on: July 17, 2023, 02:26:24 PM
Well, there seems to be a lot of metrics build on market data. Some of them are easy to understand, some not. I guess there is not metric that will tell you ultimate situation on the market.
If by ultimate situation of the market you mean what the price will be, then there is no metric that can tell you that regardless of how skilled you are.

If you are a trader you should research on what tools can help you understand the market and predict it better.
If you are an investor then you do not need to predict the market, the most you should do is find out what the current fear and greed index is and decide if you want to buy more and hoping to get a cheaper price in.
