1061  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can somebody make a successful career in gambling on: October 10, 2023, 04:34:47 PM
As the gambling industry is evolving, I think innovations would have kicked in that can make someone create a career from gambling. I do not know how this can be achieved but I feel it is possible.

Making gambling a full time job might be seen as risky but I still feel one can make gambling full time job and a career.

What do you all think?
How can you make a gamble that you cannot predict the outcome of a full-time job? How will you feed your family when you don't win for a very long time? It is not only risky but unreasonable to consider a sector that doesn't guarantee any returns as a main source of income. Many people in my location who spend almost all their time in casinos are always poor and have higher chances of engaging in criminal activities. It is so because since gambling is their only financial source, they might consider stealing or scamming if they have lost bets and have no money to survive. People who see gambling as a full-time job as easily addicted and they are the reason why many people see gamblers as good for nothing in my location. Even big winners should be employed because they might lose all the wins to gambling if they don't maximize their big wins.

This Filipina did not even expect she won the grand prize on lottery instead she thought of winning just consolation prizes. Lucky for her she had that financial stability for 25 years as $6,670+ a month here in the Philippines is pretty huge.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/pinoyabroad/content/882861/pinay-wins-over-p387-000-a-month-for-25-years-in-emirates-draw/story/
Congratulations to Freilyn Angob on this uncommon win.  She wanted to get married but it seemed they had some financial difficulty so with this win they will have a financially stable married life. I also like her wins because her reward will be spread over twenty-five years. This will help prevent the problem of wasteful spending associated with big winners.

I am not lucky in lottery or any gambling casinos but way back in 2017 the only luck I encountered was I gambled with the risk of joining bounty hunting on this forum and it is worth it.

How about you guys, are you having a good fortune on your gambling career? Do you ever think of quitting after you won a jackpot?
My gambling adventure is not a good or bad experience. I have lost some amount and in some cases won a few bucks. I have never won big in my whole life and I have not also lost a huge amount. This is because I have never gambled more than my financial capacity.  I will not quit if I ever win big but I will ensure the win is invested wisely. I might consider increasing my gambling budget but it will still be within my normal income. I will not be in the category of people who waste big wins on luxury or gambling, I will still be a responsible gambler.
1063  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: UK - new FCA rules on advertising cryptoassets, effective today (8th Oct 2023) on: October 10, 2023, 03:46:16 PM
Effective today, FCA introduced new rules on the promotion and marketing of "qualified crypto assets". At first glance, it doesn't look like it will have much impact on the customers of crypto-businesses, other than a ban on "refer a friend" programmes or new joiner bonuses.

Summary of the new restrictions: https://www.asa.org.uk/news/financial-conduct-authority-rules-on-advertising-cryptoassets.html
Full policy: https://www.fca.org.uk/publication/policy/ps23-6.pdf
FCA comments on expectations: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/press-releases/fca-sets-expectations-ahead-incoming-crypto-marketing-rules
I don't see anything wrong with these new rules. Most crypto firms sometimes engage in some advertisement that doesn't reflect the nature and risk involved in investing in such a product or coin. These rules will enable the UK populace to be exposed to true and balanced promotional material that is void of any form of deception or hidden agenda. If investors know the risk that is involved in a particular project and decide to invest in it, they would have no one to blame. It will be fair if the customer and investor are aware of the true picture of the project and not be fed with fake media hype. The good news is that crypto firms can carry out any form of advertisement without restrictions.
1064  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If we lose in gambling, what do we need to do? on: October 09, 2023, 05:19:21 PM
Gambling is a place to spend money, although many gamblers consider casinos to be a place to earn money. But in reality, more gamblers lose their money at casinos or gambling sites. So I think all of us here probably have almost the same experience, namely losing a lot of money gambling
Casinos and bet houses are not places to spend or waste money. Nobody goes to a casino intending to lose money. I go to the casino to make more money and to have some fun. We know that in most cases we lose bets but we also win and in some cases, we can win big.

Quote
In your opinion, what should we do if we have lost a lot of money on gambling? Do we keep gambling to win so we can cover up previous losses? or stop and work normally and leave gambling? Or do you have other suggestions?
It depends on your level of gambling. If you are a responsible gambler you can decide to take a break after a long time of losses. You can use this time to evaluate your gambling and make adjustments where it is necessary. For me, if it is not affecting your finances negatively, you can keep staking because you might be lucky one day. But if you observe that you are having any form of gambling disorder that has led to uncontrollable gambling adventures, I think there is need to stop and seek solutions. It is dangerous to pursue losses because it is one of the main causes of gambling above your means. We should always bear in mind that we cannot beat the house. You can never be certain that you can win so there is no need to chase losses because gambling outcomes are unpredictable.
1065  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: This might become a very important legal precedent for SEC vs. Coinbase on: October 09, 2023, 04:11:15 PM
I am not quite certain what crypto needs to have value, however, my bitcoins and altcoins are readily accepted in many exchanges in exchange for dollars, euro and other fiat currencies. They also are accepted as payment for many items and services. Is this not giving it value? Do cryptocoins need to be backed by a government and be accepted as payment for taxes to have value?

Crypto Has ‘No Innate or Inherent Value’, SEC Argues in Coinbase Case

The Securities and Exchange Commission is arguing that cryptocurrencies lack any "innate or inherent value" as part of their case against Coinbase in federal court—prompting eye rolls from Coinbase and crypto watchers.

Source https://decrypt.co/200625/crypto-has-no-innate-or-inherent-value-sec-argues-in-coinbase-case
SEC's definition of a currency having value is government backing and nothing more. They assume that even if a government certifies the use of tissue papers as a legal tender, it immediately has value. If they can control it, it has value, and if they cannot it doesn't have value. My only problem is that many nations are under the influence of the US. These nations sheepishly follow the US monetary policies without due consideration. If more nations open up to cryptocurrencies the SEC will have no other option but to stop this legal drama. The SEC legal team looks confused because their briefs are filled with inconsistencies and errors.
1066  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 09, 2023, 02:01:53 PM
These are same names that won the Seria A last season, No?
The problem shouldn't be from these players then, there must be something missing from the last management and the present. That's more to be handled internally tham externally. I won't support a coach calling out his players publicly, I've seen it leading to chaos between the player and coach. ( Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba has got to be a good example )
Coaches who talk down on their players in the public end up hurting the team. The players will feel embarrassed and might not give their best anymore. This is the case of Rudi Garcia and Erik ten Hag. Both coaches talk too much and it is influencing the performance of their clubs negatively. The problem Jadon Sancho is going through currency is because Erik failed to use his tongue appropriately. We just hope that Napoli will get back to winning and at least qualify for the Champions League. second round. The Seria A is very competitive this season I didn't see Napoli get a free ride like they had last season. Napoli have to fight hard to find the title.
1067  Economy / Economics / Re: The economics of war. How does this affect us all especially us in crypto? on: October 09, 2023, 11:07:32 AM
To this forum will the new methods of attack alter the value of physical assets thus increasing crypto assets.
This war has shown that no investment is void of risk. I watched the way a missile made a skyscraper crumble within a few minutes and it became clear that even the real estate sector is not safe. The increase in natural disasters like earthquakes and flooding has also brought to the limelight the dangers of investing in physical assets. I am sure that people will consider the benefit of investing in crypto assets due to the uncertainties associated with physical.  But this will only be possible with an increase in Bitcoin awareness. People need to know about Bitcoin and some of the benefits it offers. Holding crypto assets during these trying times also has some level of risk as discussed in this thread Keeping or recovering seed phrases during or after a natural disaster, but it is a good option.
1068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why won't the US government give up? on: October 09, 2023, 07:54:47 AM

Question
  • what is the reason why countries are still going for CBDC when they speak of regulating bitcoin?
CBDC can be easily controlled and monitored. The difference between fiat money and CBDC is that the latter uses blockchain technology. The government wants to have full control over tax and also regulate the entire financial transactions of its citizens.  They want to always know how much you have, what you spend your money on, and where your money is so that they can have the power to freeze and even forcefully take your money.

  • Why do the US government give up their pursuit to control bitcoin after over a decade because bitcoin is Decentralise and no one can have total control over it so won't they just give up on their pursuit?
I don't think they will ever give up on their pursuit to centralize bitcoin. Rather more stringent policies will make bitcoin more difficult to be freely used. My prediction is that in the future government will back the use of centralized exchanges but they will try to limit the use of bitcoin in its decentralized form.
1069  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency thought me Patience on: October 08, 2023, 03:07:18 PM
During my early days in the crypto industry I struggle to hodl crypto asset because I am naturally impatient person, of a truth I struggle to hodl, I mostly sell my asset at a loss.

One thing I observe is that the moment I sold. it at a loss, not quite long, the crypto asset start appreciating in price .
It got to a point I almost quit, the only thing that makes me not to quit is i believe that quiter are for failures.

Through reading and under going through crypto courses, I became more enlightened which made me hold high value asset like Bitcoin, Entheruem and Bnb.
Now when I think back of my struggle in holding an asset in my early days, I just laugh, because I lost a lot due to impatient.

My advice to every newbie out there, without patience you cannot be successful in crypto.
When I started my bitcoin journey,  I was always checking the price of the coin. I couldn't take my eyes off my wallet because I wanted to know how my investment was performing. But with time I began to understand the workings of the bitcoin system and it was clear that checking my wallet consistency was needless for a long-term hodler.  Traders might always monitor the market but long-term holder follow their plans.

My take is that sometimes experience is the best teacher. Most newbies might not learn patience by reading but by experience. It was good that you put up this post to remind them but I also believe that they will learn as they spend more time in the Bitcoin ecosystem.
1070  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: October 08, 2023, 02:29:12 PM
The first half has ended and what a surprise Lyon managed to take the lead with a convincing score of 3-1. This is a home match for Lyon and finally they have a chance to win through this match. Lorient couldn't do much and they were only able to score 1 goal so far and Lyon managed to take the lead with braces scored by Lacazette and Nuamah. Fabio Grosso seems to be starting to really understand what the team needs and he is able to provide a breath of fresh air for Lyon who are currently slumped at the bottom of the table. Lyon must maintain this advantage because I think the 2 goal difference is enough and they just need to strengthen their defense so they don't concede easily in the second half.
It is not over until the game ends, Lorient has gotten a second goal through Eli Junior Kroupi. The French International's brace has rekindled the hope for his club to at least get a draw in this game. In terms of ball possession, Lorient has the upper hand but Lyon has created more chances than the visitors. This game has created fewer chances but both teams have maximized the little opportunities they had. Lyon needs to win this game to leave the bottom of Ligue 1, while Lorient will remain in 16th position if they lose or draw. But a win will take the visitors to 13th position.  Winning this game will be a big boost to Lyon, while Lorient needs this win to move out of the relegation zone.
1071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Dogecoin (DOGE) Pumps 10% As Elon Musk Links Memecoin To X on: October 08, 2023, 01:36:40 PM
A Dogecoin video artist just helped create an animation for Twitter’s “X” logo that was picked up by Elon Musk.
Dogecoin (DOGE) shot up another 10% on Tuesday on greater excitement surrounding Elon Musk’s rebranding of Twitter to “X”.
Tuesday’s rise follows a related post on Musk’s Twitter, where the tech mogul appeared to link X to the famous dog meme. Source
The rise in the price of Dogecoin will only attract those who are willing to take the risk of losing their investment. No doubt there is also the possibility of profiting from it but such chances are very slim. I don't also think that Mr. Space X has the influence to pump the market like he did before. Elon Musk cannot be trusted because he considers himself first and doesn't care about other investors. So he might not be able to attract much attention to DOGE. I would rather buy more sats than risk it on a coin that has no future.

I tend to be skeptical that the Dogecoin 10% price up is mainly caused by Elon tweet, instead I think it's actually because the crypto market in general is in green. I don't think posting video made by Doge designer will attract the investors, the case would be different if Elon integrate Doge payment to the platform, maybe accepting Doge to pay for blue subscription.
Only newbies will decide to invest in DOGE because Elon Musk accepts it for blue subscription. He is very inconsistent and selfish. He would suddenly suspend such payment without notifying investors after he had made a profit from the hype of the coin.
1072  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: October 08, 2023, 01:09:13 PM
Onana's adoption is gradually taking too long than expected of him, he has participated in about seven premier league games, two champions league and two carabao games in Manchester united,I think that's enough experience already for him to have gotten some good level of acquaintance with the clubs pattern of play and generally what happens in England.
Mathias Jensen’s weak shot would been a soft catch for an average goalkeeper but Andre Onana made another terrible mistake. He needs time to build his confidence but it is costing Manchester United so many points. The goalkeeper was just fortunate that his team-mate Scott McTominay rescued the team and at least reduced the pressure on the Cameroonian. Onana needs to be confident because he has the quality to be one of the best goalkeepers in the EPL.

Tottenham Hotspur might not necessarily look like a team that'll be at the top of the team for a very long time to you but that doesn't mean that they ain't serious contenders for the English Premier League title. Tottenham is one of the only two English Premier League teams that are yet to lose a league match since the start of the season.
Despite the fact that Harry Kane who was club's best player over the past six years left the club in the summer, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has really improved the club's performance as they've been immense with their results since the start of the season. There's every possibility that they'll be at the top of the league for a long time
I accept your position that we shouldn't underrate Tottenham Hotspur because they have shown that they can take advantage of any opportunity or drop of points from Manchester City.  If City fails to win today's game against Arsenal, Tottenham might keep winning and maintaining the lead. We know it might be impossible considering the class of City, Liverpool, and Arsenal but in football nothing is impossible.
1073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How To Accumulate Bitcoin More Effectively In Any Market Zone on: October 08, 2023, 06:11:54 AM
Simply stack Bitcoin if you have the means to do so.

I mean, paying yourself first, which includes setting aside a fixed amount of money to buy Bitcoin, works like a charm for me regardless of the market conditions. In my case, every time I win an art contest, receive my signature campaign payout, receive my monthly salary, or get paid for some freelance commissioned artworks, I make sure that every penny that fills my wallet automatically increases my Bitcoin stash.

No chart or any sort of noise. Just following a strict budgeting religiously.
The OP did good research and presentation on the various plans to accumulate Bitcoin as well as how to handle situations that might make one lose focus. But I like to keep it simple to avoid complications. For me, bitcoin accumulation is automatically embedded in my income. What that means is that when my income increases, it will affect my bitcoin holding but a reduction of my income will make me buy less. This is just my simple method because I don't have much idea about market analysis or the use of bots.  Looking at the market condition can also lead to FUD, this is why I don't pay much attention to it and just focus on my accumulation plans. My profit margin is not too high to avoid missing out. I will sell some part of my coins when it gets to my target and keep others for the next phase of my plans.

I have decided to continue my involvement with investment in Bitcoin. My conviction in the importance and positive tendencies of bitcoin cannot be complete if I continue to just discuss and learn about its existence. I believe that a practical approach to learning is the best approach, hence my decision to invest in bitcoin with the  little funds I have at the moment. I also believe that little drops of water makes the mighty ocean and I'll continue my investments when  funds present itself. I wish to take my journey to another level of involvement, hence my decision. I hope and know that in the nearest future, I will be proud of the decision I am taking now. I intend Hodling my coins for a long time to avoid a repeat of my  former tragedy.

Here are proofs to backup my claims.

You have just taken the first step towards your Bitcoin journey. This is a great move and I commend you for that. You can continue acquiring more coins using DCA and keeping them safe in a safe wallet. You will be surprised that in a few years, you will have acquired a reasonable sum. You can consider using an Electrum wallet since your fund is not large enough to warrant the purchase of a hardware wallet. But you can consider buying a trusted open-sourced hardware wallet like Passport or Bitbox in the future. You should also learn how to keep your wallet safe to avoid losing your money to hackers. I know you are excited to buy bitcoin but you don't need to announce what you have done. We should learn to keep our lives off the public, that is why we are bitcoiners.

Another week for Tottenham Hotspur to play out another game against Luton who are some how still getting use to the EPL and is going to be another free win for the visitors (Tottenham) that's to their fans and some online stakers but I don't see Tottenham Hotspur winning this game.
Luton might be poor in their performance but I think they're going to take this game like is their last game in the EPL and they don't mind spoiling that unbeaten strict for Spurs today but I can just tip today's encounter between the newly promoted side against Spurs as a draw.
Tottenham will be missing Manor Solomon, Brennan Johnson and Ivan Perisic due to injuries. But the recovery of Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso will give the club the needed boost. Ange Postecoglou has named an unchanged team that won the game against Liverpool. A win today will make the Spurs temporally go to the top of the EPL pending the outcome of Manchester City and . Arsenal tomorrow. Luton have just managed to win and draw just one game making them to be at the 17th position with four points.

Coach Rob Edwards made three changes to the team that played against Burnley. Tottenham is coming to this game with a lot of confidence after beating Liverpool, so Luton should be set to play one of the best attacking and defensively active teams. Luton will have to start coming up with winning to enable them to escape relegation.

The second doping test for testosterone also showed a positive result, and therefore Pogba remains disqualified from 2 to 4 years. First, he missed the whole season due to injuries, and now this doping scandal.

There are rumors that if he admits his guilt, the disqualification may be reduced by 50% of the prosecutor's sentence, that is, if he is disqualified for 2 years, then he may miss one year. Juventus also has the right to terminate his contract or suspend payments, I even read about 39k per year. Pogba has a contract with Juventus until 2026, but now nothing is clear for him.
Based on information gathered from the World Anti-Doping Code, Paul Pogba might face a four-year ban. But he could get lesser suspensions if he proves that he is not at fault or he didn't use it to upgrade or improve his performance. The French midfielder has to show that he took the drugs for other purposes besides helping on the pitch.  The footballer is facing the darkest days of his football career.  His annual salary which is worth 8 million euros ($8.4 million) has been suspended by Juventus and the Italian side will consider terminating his contract if he is found guilty. He has seven days to present his defense to the National Anti-Doping Tribunal and get set for the legal battle.
1077  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: They know the truth but they don't want to accept it, publicly on: October 07, 2023, 10:10:36 AM
Money is still the real reasons why we gamble, been addicted or not, mutual greed or not, all gambling is done to make more money or get some form of reward in the end.
The main reason why many people gamble is to make money no doubt about it. But we still need to emphasize that there are people that care less about their lose or win. They might be very few but they still exist. We can also grade people who gamble for benefits into several levels. One category is people who don't depend on the gains from gambling to survive or meet their basic needs. Another level is those that bet because they are catching funds and also expecting profit. This set doesn't see gambling as a reliable source of income but they are expecting to have some benefit. For me, I don't gamble because of only entertainment and I don't also see it as a source of stable income. But my wins are well celebrated and the money is used to solve a need based on the amount won.
1078  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: French member of cyber group pleads guilty to $6 million in data theft damages on: October 07, 2023, 09:18:41 AM
Yes, that is part of the judicial process unfortunately, when someone is squeaking something just to get a lenient sentence, this criminals will do it to save their faces and avoid long jail term sentence.
Plea bargains have been a sound legal means to get more evidence that will facilitate the investigation. But in some cases, these criminals just to get that lenient sentence will go the extra mile of implicating innocent people. It could also be used by some politicians and law enforcement agencies to target opposition or enemies. There have been cases where further evidence or investigation proved that some persons implicated by these criminals were innocent. So there is always a need to back these confessions with concrete evidence.

are he going to serve in US jail?
I think so. He got caught in another country and then got extradited to the US, likely because most of these crimes are targeted towards US companies. I don't think other countries would try too hard to jail him locally, especially if they don't get some benefits at all.
It is common to see criminals from other countries being extradited to the US if the crime was committed in the US. But I hardly see cases where American citizens are extradited to other countries to face the law. Maybe US citizens hardly commit crimes outside their territory.

1080  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Changed the game you gamble on? share your story. on: October 05, 2023, 11:28:07 AM
Is it the game you started playing as a gambler that you still play till now? Is there any gambler in this place who was used to playing a particular game before but never was successful winning or did not win enough and then made up their mind that it was time for a change in the game you gamble on. Which game did you change from, and what did you change to? how long did you play the game that you are deciding to stop playing because of the bad outcomes?
Sports gamblers always play a particular game for a long period.  It is not easy to learn and understand a new game so most sports gamblers play similar games for a long time. As a football gambler, I can easily change the league I stake on but not the game. Casino games are always evolving and there are always new games to explore. So casino users can easily change the game they play. I am considering learning about other sports so check if I can diversify my bets. But for now, I have not changed my game.
