1061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: March 15, 2016, 10:41:43 AM
You guys do realise that ETH is going through EXACTLY the same process BTC went through before it became #1? It went up, it went down, it had its supporters and its detractors then, BOOM, suddenly it's $1000.

evidence in support of this?
1062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Augur & REP on: March 15, 2016, 10:34:41 AM
You don't need REP to create and bet on markets in augur.

REP has value because REP holders get paid 50% of the transaction fees incurred by betters in exchange for reporting outcomes of the various events that are bet on. So REP holders get paid for helping to resolve a market.

For example, if augur sees $1 billion in betting volumes (which is trivial in the betting industry) in 1 year and the transaction fees are 1% then REP holders get $5m in total and since there are 11 million reps in existence, you get paid ~$0.45 for every rep you own.

So, in a way, if you  buy REP you are basically buying a salaried job that is very very easy to do and takes almost no time.

thanks for the explanation.

so REP tokens are shares that pay dividends, and not 'gas' that power/ authenticate transactions.

I just sold my eth at a good profit. It was a fun ride, but I do not believe it can last.

smartness.
1064  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: March 15, 2016, 10:09:53 AM
Nobody is able to stop a REVOLUTION. ETH technology and Internet of Things.
Revolution is good but ether is not money. Does anyone know how many ethers will exist in 1 month?

at 13:39 Zulu Time on 15th February there were 77,049,805 ether.

the rate of growth is unpleasant. it's like a weed.
1065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Augur & REP on: March 15, 2016, 10:03:16 AM
I know of Augur, and now i'm digging a little deeper to get a handle on fundamentals to assess it for investment.

At sale.augur.net the short video ends with;

- "REMEMBER! You don't need reputation to use Augur, and most users won't".

So, are REP tokens worth investing in? Why would i need to have REP if i don't need to have REP to use Augur?

thanks.

P.S. There seem to be a lot of REP sellers on Reddit. Is this a tell about how the investor community now views REP's prospects post IPO?
1066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Vitalik flee the country after the Eth scheme implodes? on: March 15, 2016, 09:55:55 AM
"Will Vitalik flee the country..."

Vitalik has ALREADY fled. He's now living in **SWITZERLAND**!!
1067  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 14, 2016, 05:46:39 PM
I'm still here haters, ETH right back at 0.0320...I admit I almost had a heart attack but crypto trading is amazing...this really reminds me of 2013 Bitcoin, only that I didn't even know what was BTC back then hehe.

it's a rush isn't it? :-)

you do have your exit mapped out don't you? don't fuck it up.
1068  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum pump and dump? on: March 14, 2016, 05:39:12 PM

Vitalik Buterin will be holding an AMA on 8btc forums, the largest chinese cryptocurrency forum, on the 14th of March

http://8btc.com/thread-30435-1-1.html

This is going beyond the moon, we will probably land somewhere on jupiter.

quelle surprise!

and Jupiter has no surface. you will be free falling a long way. it should be renamed planet Ether.
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: March 14, 2016, 05:35:58 PM
Eth is a shitcoin fueled by undue hype. Trade it while you can make profit and then be sure to dump it for profit while you can. I think eth is going to end up like nxt in the end, nice tech but no adoption - in other words a complete and utter failure.

so true. continuing to hold ETH right now is like holding a grenade in the hand with the pin pulled out. much better to take the profits.
1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: March 14, 2016, 05:30:47 PM
You guys are delusional, even if ethereum's dev's team deliver half they promise, eth will surpass bitcoin.
Ether could be superior in many ways , but if Bitcoin has only 21 million coins and ether has unlimited then I can't see ethers coins being worth more.

If ether ends up with 1 billion coins and BTC still only has 21 million then.....it's hard to see ethers "coins" worth anywhere near a bitcoin.

Or am I missing something?

you're not missing anything. supply side of ETH is massive. the mistake some people are making is that they look at the ETH price and compare it to BTC without considering supply side ratios, and they think ETH is "cheap". at $14 ether when adjusted to BTC at +5x supply is over $75.

$75 vs $410

and people say BTC is cheap at this price. So $75 is still a steal considering that Bitcoin is a pocket calculator and Ethereum is a PC.

last year BTC was at $225. the present price is unattractive in any sane investor. the 'halving' is hype.

so has Bitfinex opened ETH trading?

Well, how about take a look instead of asking?

where is the price surge from China? i'm not seeing it.

you are not factoring into whether people are treating it *as if* it is a currency such that it effectively becomes one due to its usage. In other words you may be technically correct but ontologically off.

For that reason I've left a bit in the market, but I would not dream of going "all in".

Even if there are people treating it "as if* it is a currency", there are likely to be at least as many who are not aware of the massive mining supply thats around the corner. 20 million coins that come from nowhere getting dumped on the market over 12 months.

The only way Ethereum's a viable investment is if bitcoin collapses and it moves to a genuine reserve status. (i.e. the ETH/BTC ratio would continue to grow even if it's marketcap in dollars remains the same). If, however, bitcoin maintains its dollar marketcap then I'm unlikely to be "ontologically off" I would have thought.

20 million is the minimum. dear Vitalik started making vague noises after this bubble began to expand about capping the total supply to 100 million by next year, but i take that as meaning not a lot as until now it was always going to be 1 Bn. if this was a regulated market he would be censured for making such a statement.

Panic buy now. Last time to buy ETH below 13$. Countdown to lift off. 2 bil market cap in next month. 0.2 BTC per ETH it's the real value.

ETH was not actually ever designed to be a store of value, they even say so in the whitepaper.

This is an obvious pump by some mega whales, and a lot of people are going to get burned.

It is such a classic bubble.

Precisely, very few users have most of the coins , i dont think pumping this pump and hold was planned from the beginning but i wonder how long it will last, i avoided touching eth from the beginning and yeah it kinda hurts now yet i dont regret it.

you don't have need to regret it. save your stake money. there will be other opportunities. there always are.

What is value of cryptocoins? IMO we're going to new definition. This and next years value of cryptocurrency will be amount of services hosted on it. Internet of things is the near future. Microsoft investing a lot of $ in ethereum and they knowing what they doing. ETH isnt't another litecoin, dogecon... It's new technology like web 2.0.

Microsoft has stated that it is coin agnostic.
1077  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: March 14, 2016, 10:37:39 AM
LOL.

It will dump EVEN HARDER.

This is NOTHING YET.

Noobs will get BURNED.

They will COMMIT SUICIDE.

They will CRY.

Just wait until it drops to $1. BECAUSE THAT WILL HAPPEN.

Delusional idiots!!

on a technical point, does not cry come before suicide?

i'm sure several Swiss lawyers are acting as nominee for clients with links to the Ethereum Foundation.

the "i'm not holding coin" denial would mean absolutely nothing.
1079  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 14, 2016, 09:35:54 AM
The last math I heard: out of 70 million+ Ethers currently in existence only 11 million are in the wild. That would mean they are all on Polo right now?

I'd question the math. The crowdsale was for about 60 million and 17 million more have been mined since then. The Ethereum Foundation owns BTC from the crowdsale. The last I heard they barely held any ETH.

I stand corrected. But Vitalik did post on Reddit during the run-up that he/they were selling OTC.
Sorry, I am a new hier, what is a OTC?

over the counter - buy coin in bulk from an exchange outside the bid/ ask system of trading. the value of the buy does not influence the market price.

you would go to Poloniex and ask to buy 100,000 from the whale with 1.2 million ether sitting in his/ her Poloniex account.

Im thinking about going all in on ether, seriously.. And this is way outside of my character.
Anyone here go all in on eth?

go on then.
