"the source added that the crackdown targets unauthorized trading at virtual currency exchanges, rather than Bitcoin and the underlying blockchain technology."

it is not about BTC, not even a ban.
the PBoC just want to keep stuff under control.. no surprise there.

ok, now you can continue dumping, dumbasses.. see ya next year at 10k. Cool

“It means platforms facilitating trading between virtual currencies and legal tenders will not be allowed in China,”

That rather sounds like all of it. Your quoted sentence means Bitcoin isn't banned, just the ability to trade it on exchanges.

Someone who can buy it for less in a short while?
10603  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese ban bitcoin news is 100% pure bullshit on: September 08, 2017, 07:41:37 PM
Hypothetically lets say the news was true. What is the price floor? $3600?

It's managed a several hundred dollar fall without any confirmation from the big exchanges. If it is true then it'll go lower than that, but equally it's possible that the Chinese price would decouple from everywhere else even more. Was it not sub $3500 at some point today in China anyway?

Well, according to that a full on ban is the plan, and that's a reputable news source. As ever though it'll probably be lost in a fug of doublespeak.

The end of the Cryptocurrency Exchange era in China (translation) - Google Doc

So they're really going for it according to that. I wonder what measures miners have in place to sell. I assume the proper ones have OTC deals but there must be some stragglers who'll have to get something in place.

I can't say I'll be too sad if China checks out.

Custom fees are now a thing. Nice one, Mycelium. On the bottom of the send section it gives you a slider of fee options.

As ever, the Chinese exchanges, y'know the ones about to die, have heard nothing and are humming away contentedly.

I don't know if the big exchanges have any involvement with the Chinese ICO scene. Perhaps it's just going to be the questionable little ones.
10608  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: FRAUD WARNING: Bitstamp is holding my money hostage and ignoring me for 14 days on: September 08, 2017, 03:35:25 PM
They have no control of your receiving bank's fees. It's quite possible that money was eaten up by various exchange rates. Some banks charge outrageous amounts.
10609  Economy / Speculation / Re: More Chinese FUD to trigger panic selling on idiots on: September 08, 2017, 02:56:38 PM
Well, I hope they actually do ban it properly once and for all. As ever it's impossible to tell what's true and what isn't, but they quite clearly don't trust it so they may as well nip it in the bud sooner rather than later.

I assume ICO extermination is a certainty and that's fair enough. Dunno about the rest. I can't say I'll be pining for the Chinese market if it's gone. Its neutering at the start of the year is what started the proper price explosion anyway.
10610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Lawmakers Seek Tax Exemption for Bitcoin Transactions Below $600 on: September 08, 2017, 10:48:22 AM
Was anybody really filing taxes for buying a Steam game in the first place? It seems utterly ridiculous. I presume they're being pragmatic and acknowledging this.
10611  Other / Off-topic / Re: *CHAIN THREAD* - F**k I wish I didn't spend BTC on........ on: September 07, 2017, 10:12:29 PM
I've spent a fair bit. Most of it I don't regret at all, but I did spend my weekly sig earnings on utter shit from Amazon a few times like laptop sleeves that didn't fit. That was a disgusting waste.

If nothing else, all the tat you have lying around with Bitcoin serves as a cautionary reminder not to do it again. On the flip side in the UK there's a chain of second hand stores that pays out in BTC for the rubbish you send them so my old games and phones have now paid for themselves many, many times over.
10612  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for a list of exchanges that are not crap... on: September 07, 2017, 09:52:21 PM
but if you dont have fiat, dont they not ever ask you to verify your ID?

Bitfinex? That certainly used to be the case, I'm totally not sure if it is now. And if you're American then you're toast anyway. They're getting rid of all of them.
10613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Users Should Use Linux Not Windows on: September 07, 2017, 09:03:49 PM
Whats the issue? lack of GUI or have you tried UBUNTU also and dislike it as well?

Just genuinely curious I haven't used linux much

I've tried plenty of different versions. The command line crap is enough to make me toss my cookies. I could never get the trackpad to work on the machines I tried it with either and one version updated to become completely unusable. All of the 'Windows beating' programs I used were shit, and the ones I use most have no equivalent.

As anything vital when it comes to crypto is offline, I'm not going to waste brain space learning something I never liked in the first place.
10614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the bitcoin remittance industry isn't really growing on: September 07, 2017, 08:53:15 PM
The reason Western Union costs so much and is so widely used is that they're located everywhere, have spent untold amounts on compliance and hand you your cash there and then.

Bitcoin does none of these things. Anyone doing remittances with it has to use exchanges of some sort at both ends if they're after money to spend. That's the hard and expensive part and it's the bit Bitcoin doesn't do at all.

Most people accepting remittances are going to be skint and won't be looking to wait around for something they've never heard of to appreciate further.
10615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Users Should Use Linux Not Windows on: September 07, 2017, 08:49:05 PM
I detest Linux and don't care what anyone else thinks. I've downloaded multiple versions and loathed every single one of them.

When it comes to crypto use a hardware or paper wallet. For crypto related computer needs I use a Windows machine that'll never see the internet again.
10616  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: September 07, 2017, 08:24:44 PM
volume down to a paltry $3 million... I get the feeling that the rug is going to be pulled out from under us at some point. It simply can't continue this low long term, anywhere from $3 to $10 million daily volume is absolutely pathetic. That shows that there isn't much interest in the coin.. so what is holding the price up?

On the flip side, it could mean that the coin is severely undervalued/unappreciated and when it does come through with some big announcement or development then it could catch fire. hard to tell. This stagnation and low volume has got me seriously considering cashing out and moving into something else..

Bog standard behaviour. A few weeks back it was number two in volume on Poloniex. It goes for it and then decides to have a nice rest. It's been doing it for years now. It should be of no surprise to anyone who pays attention.
10617  Economy / Collectibles / Re: MESSAGE FROM GRAVITATE CASH OUT COINS NOW on: September 07, 2017, 07:37:39 PM
At some point in time I'm sure that was true but as the countdown to the two month deadline closes, this becomes a much slimmer chance.  He stated there were technical issues surrounding his digital components (hard drive/laptop/etc.) so I would have to assume all details are currently lost.

Somebody in that line of work wouldn't have the gumption to back them up? You can obtain a hard disk or another laptop for a heady fifty bucks.
10618  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 07, 2017, 04:35:39 PM
Someone is hemorrhaging a lot of bitcoin to make that happen. Depending on the will and the depth of their pockets it is certainly possible there will be another attempt to push BCH to 0.2 but it would be very expensive.

Why assume it's a couple of sinister puppeteers when it's just as much your bog standard alt pumpers?
10619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: September 07, 2017, 01:09:02 PM
Do you think it's a bad idea - ICO on NEM? But this is one of the goals of the project.

If the legal environment surrounding them was clarified then it would be fine, but it isn't yet. There are coins that have become utterly dependent on ICOs. It's only a matter of time before they are cracked down on and then a significant part of their value prospect is crippled at least for a good while.
10620  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for a list of exchanges that are not crap... on: September 07, 2017, 12:39:09 PM
the mainstream platforms are Bitfinex and Poloniex

If you are looking for leveraged buys/sells with margin, you can checkout whaleclub.io

Bitfinex are unregulated and there's no way of getting fiat in or out there. Poloniex might freeze you for months and not tell you why. Whaleclub has had multiple accusations of fraud against it.
