Thought the rolls were surely going to hit 5B while I slept, the way things were going. Probably a number of people max-speed autobetting also asleep in my time as I'm awake and still about 435k bets away from the big 5 billion.

Meanwhile, my F@H has been on fire, 2 1k credit work units in a row (that's the max it seems I ever get).
10642  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Brave and Binance Partner to Bring Crypto Trading Directly Into the Browser on: April 02, 2020, 05:39:06 PM
Brave browser started off as such a great idea, and has just become more and more awful as time goes on. Claiming to be anti-tracking, but allowing trackers from Facebook and Twitter to follow you all over the web. Claiming to be pro-privacy, but enforcing KYC requirements from a third party. Claiming to be anti-advertising, and then slap a Binance ad on every new tab for every user. It's clear that desire for more profit has now taken over as the driving force behind Brave.

Strangely, I actually haven't seen the big binance banner yet when opening a new tab but I have seen it a couple of times in the Brave pop up that comes every now and then. Gotta say my Brave usage is dropping day by day though.

I think after initially liking Brave, I've now returned to Chrome, and I have to say between the two, because of the way I use browsers with all kinds of Google-linked stuff to it, I think I'm not going back to Brave.

I never did trust its claims about privacy and all that, and to be fair, it is probably still better than most alternatives, but I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
10643  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to buy Bitcoin (since halving is coming) on: April 02, 2020, 04:17:53 PM
It is best for you to buy in legitimate Bitcoin websites like coinbase and binance. Because it is far safe rather than handing out your money to strangers. If you still want to pursue this then be careful in trusting newbies and even with those good reputation there are still risk especially when the guy is someone you can't see in a far away country.

If you really think so, time for you to think again.

Have you actually tried out any of these p2p platforms? I probably agree that if you have to trust someone, probably better to trust Coinbase because there is some regulation protection but I wouldn't say the same about Binance (not that I've checked).

I do a lot of P2P, mainly P2P actually, and I think that it's still very safe if done with the right people, and done on the right platform. With escrow and reputation systems, I feel it's safer to buy P2P, not to mention probably cheaper and faster.

Just make sure it's legal in your country, is all.
10644  Economy / Economics / Re: Repeating the Mistakes of the 2008 Bailout on: April 02, 2020, 02:34:11 PM
Not only are we repeating the mistakes, we have been doubling down on every wrong move and misstep in the years that followed. So we learnt that bad debt repackaged with other types of debt is still bad debt. In the decade since we've not only been buying bad debt we've been buying and rebuying and repackaging bad insurance and just basically any kind of derivative that smells.

And at least in 2008 the bailouts were from taxpayers, which was bad yes, but now we're just printing money for the bailout. What do we think is going to happen to people's savings?
10645  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Memory lane (best match you gambled on) on: April 02, 2020, 12:44:25 PM
If it's talking about best odds, then I've got a couple the past two seasons betting against Manchester City and winning around 25/1 stakes. That would be Newcastle last season and Norwich this season. 2-1 and 3-2 wins, if I recall correctly.

But last season's 20/1 odds of Liverpool progressing against Barcelona (this was after they lost the first leg 3-0) was probably the best, as it wasn't just money riding on the game, but a lot of emotion too. I cheered every goal so crazily, best scene after the 4th goal (corner, walk away, scamper back, kick, head, goal!) was Robbo giving Messi a whack on the back of his head LOL.
10646  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving, who's closest with actual Nrs TAKE A CHANCE on the LIST !!! on: April 02, 2020, 12:09:00 PM
Nicely done, dothebeats, I remember a past conversation we had about Bitcoin dust, all that time ago, so maybe this nice gift goes some way to repairing the hurt from that incident;)

And thanks again to The Dude for making our lives that much more fun during these times. Awesome days ahead for Bitcoin and if you guys haven't reupped on Bitcoin at these crazy prices, dafuq you waiting for?!
10647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Banking on Bitcoin Documentary Highlights on: April 02, 2020, 11:05:02 AM
I like the concept of helping the unbanked too, but I wonder how many of these people talking about it have actually met any of these unbanked? I know it's not absolutely critical that you have to come face to face with problems to solve them, but to say that Bitcoin lets you have your bank in your cellphone and in your pocket is absurd when you think about these unbankables.

You have had to live with them or live like them and face their problems (banks won't let you open an account or loan you any money) to understand why Bitcoin isn't as accessible the way we think it is for them.

A few numbers I know to be true, having lived and worked with these so-called unbanked:
1. Average family size 6.
2. Average cellphone per family 1. And no, it's not going to be able to be your wallet. It's at best semi-smartphone, minimum data capacities and used mainly for SMS (which makes mobile money great for them but not bitcoin).
3. No internet access. Data, when and if available is expensive and used to communicate, rather than connect outside.

So many more difficult access barriers.

I love Bitcoin. But it's not quite the magic wand we're making it out to be. Charlie Shrem and all those named people have no real grasp of the unbanked. That's not their fault, but there you go.
10648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gender in blockchain. on: April 02, 2020, 09:42:42 AM
Yeah I was expecting to read a joke in there but a bit disappointing. Gender in blockchain is a byproduct of the gender gap that has already pre-existed in tech. You want to fix blockchain disparity, you fix it in tech. It starts with access and education, so those Girls Can Code projects are doing it the right way.

It actually gets worse when you dig into those 14.5% stats too. Women, when they do get in, tend to be siloed in certain departments only.

UEFA suspends everything indefinitely but everything is awesomes.

Looking forward to the new shizzles coming out, cyberfootball whaaat?

Speaking of Esports, i'm glad to see that the Multi Master is back again for second straight week in its Esports edition. It's a nice little distraction in these weird times.

I had a chance to win it back-to-back this past Sunday, having one-game lead before the final 3 games, but unfortunately for me, i only got one those 3 correct, 2 would have secured me the first place (multiple winners).

Noticed quite a few of you having good scores, would you say the e-sports edition has been tougher to predict or generally equal to the odds? I'm going to try and see if I can take part in this week's MM!
10650  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: April 01, 2020, 05:26:03 PM
I don't agree, like ampere, that passion is gone away, but it is a different kind of passion. It's screaming girls with cheeks painted and boys begging players to throw them a shirt. I enjoyed -- LOVED -- the electricity of a bit of naughty skullduggery and degenerate football love in my day, but it's an atmosphere I could never safely take my kids to, so if I have to choose between cute girls and choreographed staidum waves with blinking LED bands... versus more primal atmospheres... Is it worse than having piss and beer thrown at you and then descending into helmet fights with other fans? Maybe not.

We've paid the price for hooliganism. There is no space in that anymore, let's face it, and gladly.

Roy Keane (it was him right?) was right about prawn sandwiches all those years ago, football is gentrified, but I still believe in the game and I still like the fact that you have guys like Mane and Firmino who come up literally from the streets, Robbo who was a parking attendant not so long ago, and hey, even me who never imagined I would ever get the chance to watch Liverpool, let alone in a cup final!

I do agree that people have the right to peaceful protest though, and if UEFA feels that peaceful banners asking honest questions are wrong, then I say f*ck the prawn sandwich brigade!
10651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you read about crypto? Favorite sources? on: April 01, 2020, 04:34:47 PM
I depend on this forum most of the times for crypto news. Other than this, I am active in one social media group where people where all crypto related news. I follow that group regularly for crypto news. I think reddit and this forum is the best source for getting news faster.

I'm kinda boring like that too actually. I mean, occasionally, because of the work I do for others, I get to hear about some of the news that goes on but they're ultimately unimportant to me as a mainly Bitcoin user.

If it's important, it ends up getting discussed here. If it's really critical, it even goes up in the News section of the forum.

Every now and then I come across something I didn't hear about when it first surfaced, but I can afford to read news like ex-porn-star-turns-Forbes30-under-30-CelsiusNetworkHeadofLending.
10652  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Keeping A Record Of Your Losses Will Make You Realize To Stop Gambling on: April 01, 2020, 12:40:34 PM
Honestly wish I'd done this, but the closest I've come to now is my own personal daily (until lockdown, that is) units tracking thread to keep track of my bets.

I have a different concept though, and that's probably because I consider gambling as entertainment and any deposits I make aren't losses, but payments, much as I would enter an entertainment expense in my own personal financial estimates monthly and annually.

So for me, I know I'm spending a fixed amount per season of football, knowing that the entire deposit's my entertainment budget. If I actually win something out of it, I tend to spend it for even more entertainment. In my case since 2016, it's basically paying forward for the next season, so I actually haven't put in new money for gambling my regular seasons (I still do for additional contests!).
10653  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Problem with cashing out to fiat on: April 01, 2020, 10:53:19 AM
That's only a weird experience because it's your first time doing that. Now, back when I was still mining Bitcoin, before the gold rush happened and everyone wanted to do it, I was making weekly trips to the bank also, trying to cash in my freshly-mined Bitcoins for cash (I am a holder but hey I need to pay my bills too, right?).

Here's a picture of me finding my very first Bitcoins, I got so lucky!

In fact, upon closer inspection, the coins you had looked almost like the ones I mined. I was a sole customer at the bank, perhaps we're customers at the same bank?
10654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if BTC never reaches all time high? on: April 01, 2020, 08:48:47 AM
it would be a great day because you will finally realize that bitcoin is not defined by its price but by the utility that it provides as a decentralized payment system.

Sadly, or not, that great day will likely never arrive for most people already hopelessly fixated by price. If they haven't already understood and fallen in love with bitcoin for aforementioned reasons today, I doubt they can ever find the will to do so. That's why speculators be leaving and coming in waves.

Small coincidence, was putting on the Watford jersey the guys at SB kindly sent to me and now all training wear is at half price at the Hornet's shop: https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1245246518430400513

Shocked to not see buwaytrees in the last table, don't even know if he joined the poker game or not but he looks like he is one of the people who is constantly around and was straight up expecting him to win it all, or at least be in the last table, maybe he wasn't available at that time and didn't join I don't know.

Wasn't able to join the last one, bud, I joined the very first one and the third one? Timing is a bit complicated for me -- I actually CAN join but then in between I have to do stuff (excuses!).
10656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what is the best place to talk to traders that ACTUALLY know what they're on: March 31, 2020, 06:41:13 PM
Allow me to say that I generally agree with gentlemand and others by saying that this forum is probably not as good as other platforms -- but in defence of those who actually do breathe meaningful life into TA on this forum, I might draw you to check out the threads in Speculation (rather than Trading) to find decent folks like dmwardjr (sample thread), dragonsvlinux (sample thread) and exstasie (sample thread) -- and these are even the more recent ones. There are a few good men in this forum, I'm not the best person since I'm a Sunday TA reader, but it's really not that shitty in here if you keep clicking ignore on the mess that can follow their threads.

Many of the folks over at the Wall Observer thread know how to get a good laugh too.

Steemit used to have some good guys but things are getting real shitty there now I understand.
10657  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk SwC Championship Poker Series(50 mBtc added by SwC) on: March 31, 2020, 04:41:21 PM
Nicely done guys! Reading a bit up and down and I should say that we ought to consider alternating the timezones so everyone around the world gets a chance, the current one sort of suits me, but I know it screws a lot of people who have to work on Monday (why not Saturday though?). Even could do 3 timezones for 3 different weeks then everybody gets a chance, that way we also see which timezone gets the most participants.

That said, I think in the end, we'll stick to whichever time it ends up in. I'll throw in my chips closer to the event, glad this is going, thanks again to yahoo and efialtis. It's actually pretty cool people are participating, god knows how hard it's been to organise events in the past. Is it really cause people are all at home now I wonder?
10658  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A long journey taken short - first and last journal entry of a failed trader. on: March 31, 2020, 02:24:44 PM
Sorry to read that OP, I hope you look elsewhere outside this forum for some support. You can PM for some ideas, but you should not need to look far beyond your state or Google (I'm serious, search for help). I know someone else who's been down this road -- not in crypto but it's not a dissimilar activity when you trade -- and it has taken many years for the closure to happen and the courage to explain what happened.

There are more lessons I would say, other than to just "wait for your setup". I know it's pointless to say since we all take risks but always to risk what you know you can lose and go to bed all right. Also maybe not to borrow money ever.

And that yes, trading isn't just not for everyone. It's probably not for most of us. Hold that 240eur in btc and seek debt relief from your state. Good luck.

£762million owed just to Sky and BT sports alone. Then there's all the other countries rights. The PL and Sky could end up falling out over this if there's lawsuits which could be huge for when the TV rights go for up for auction again. I was hoping companies like Amazon or Dazn end up out bidding Sky/BT or them at least getting more games. There was even talk of Facebook maybe even throwing their hat into the ring at some point. Companies like Amazon and Facebook can easy afford to do this.

I'm not one to hope the stairs fall on the guy who's just fallen off them (saying in my country) but you know what? This could end up being a good thing with knockon effects. The last global recession hardly dented football income or transfer fees or TV deals, but this time could be very different. I would LOVE to see one of the other guys get more games and expand services more. I like Sky but being unable to access it -- and I don't even live in a remote corner of the world -- lately opened my eyes to how ridiculously impossible it can be to legitimately access rights to view.
