Id think its the fact that GPU 0 has to take care of GFX for the OS.

But you say "always both have 477 KH/s" when did this change?

Also GPU 0 seems to run hotter. Maybe its a cooling problem? E.g. GPU 0 is above GPU 1 and the case has insufficient cooling?

Take up to 50$ to buy a good book about technical analysis,

buy BTC with the rest and apply what you learned.

I don't mine bitcoin with my GPU, geez do you think I'm retarded or something :/

valid point Smiley

Sorry, I actually though you would think mining BTC with a GPU is still profitable....

That's cool, just as soon as you break even every day is a profit day Smiley

Nope, that GPU eats electricity, which costs money...
Huh? Have you used a profit calculator?
They usually include energy consumption, and unless you live in a 3rd world country
or you have the worst electricity deal of -all time-, your profits good enough hardware
should cover the small amount of extra electricity it drains. If you basically just save
electricity by being smart and turning of electronics, unplugging charger cables etc you
save as much as the average person wastes, and that should cover the cost of the mining.

Id like to see a calculation with any single GPU that can break even or make profit.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

So you get 375 Mh/s and the PC needs 200? 250 Watts?

Lets say 80 and lets also say you pay 0.05$ per kWh (I pay .25 € per kWh just to put that into perspective)

http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com/?difficulty=3129573174.5223&hashrate=375.00&exchangerate=500.00&bitcoinsperblock=25.00&rigcost=100.00&powerconsumption=80.00&powercost=0.05&investmentperiod=355

break even? never, and I assumed you somehow got that system for 100$

Lets double the hashrate, just for fun.

http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com/?difficulty=3129573174.5223&hashrate=750.00&exchangerate=500.00&bitcoinsperblock=25.00&rigcost=100.00&powerconsumption=80.00&powercost=0.05&investmentperiod=355

nope never...

ok lets double again 1.5 GHash/s with your single GPU System that only eats 80 Watts, wet dreams right?

http://tpbitcalc.appspot.com/?difficulty=3129573174.5223&hashrate=1500.00&exchangerate=500.00&bitcoinsperblock=25.00&rigcost=100.00&powerconsumption=80.00&powercost=0.05&investmentperiod=355

4077 days... to break even, to break even on a 100$ investment.

Please show me where I am wrong and this is still very much profitable if you are not living with your parents and they pay for your system and your electricity bill. On the other hand if you are supported by your parents they should just buy you btc.

1) So as long as you remove your bitcoins from the exchange immediately then you are still in possession of your bitcons, correct?

Tell me, Mr. Anderson, how are you going to remove your bitcoins from the exchange if you're unable to withdraw?

Cheesy

Gotta love Mt.Gox for these jokes.

Hi guys,
Im having this problem as well, in fact I have never made a post in this forum, so this is the first(if it posts!) Sad

Ive been trying to make a WTS post in the sale section, but keep getting this Sad

You are restricted to the Beginners & Help and the Local Forum as long as you are "Newbie". Wait a few hours and you can post everywhere.
10671  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago..." on: February 25, 2014, 10:27:17 AM
I think you have to wait 360 seconds before posting a message.  Maybe to prevent spam and short messages.  I wish it had some type of timer or something indicating when its ok to post.
A timer? If you have a clock, simply wait 6 minutes and post again.
The restriction timer goes down the more active you are. Mine is about 45 seconds I believe with 42 activity.
(360/60=6)

Or you just wait and try again.

I have not seen that message in a very long time and im not even that long here, so it really is a temporal thing.
10672  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding exchange risk on: February 25, 2014, 10:02:02 AM
I don't understand why an exchange is a risk.  Let me explain my confusion in a real world example and then slap me with a dead fish and save my confusion please.

1) So, I want to buy my first bitcoins.  Cool
2) I find an exchange I like and wire them 1,000USD and let's say I get 2 bitcoins in return.
3) From my reading, I get a private key that I write down and stick in my favorite hiding place.
4) The exchange I bought the bitcoins from goes bankrupt and no longer exists.
5) I still have my bitcoin b/c I have the private key identifying my coin from all others

The only risk I see is during the 10 minutes or so of me wiring money and me getting my bitcoin key.  After I get the key, I thought I am basically my own bank and the only protector in the world of that bitcoin.

Where am I off base?

Thanks.

#1-#2 great, welcome
#3 nope, you need to create a wallet first which has a private key, which can potientially be written down. See paperwallet https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Paper_wallet

Usually you have a normal wallet (a programm) where you can send and receive your bitcoins.

#4 you can care less if you allready got your BTC from them
#5 yes
#6 10 minutes? You wish!
#6.1 authenticate to the exchange (took me 1-2 weeks, I had to get some papers, so it might go faster if you have everything the exchange requires.)
#6.2 sending the money will take at least 2-3 days, if you wire internationally even longer
#6.3 receiving your btc will only take 1 to a few hours, so thats the fastest part
#6.4 now only you controll those 2 (probably more) BTC

I'm no expert, so this could be inaccurate, but I think you'd have one of two scenarios:

1) After you bought your bitcoins, you transfer them out to your own wallet. These are completely safe even if the exchange goes wallop.

2) You store them on the exchange, in which case you are screwed.

So assuming that you are talking about immediately withdrawing to your own wallet after you've purchased, then yes, you are safe Smiley

Rit.

#1 Your own wallet is only as safe as your own PC, so for most people not very safe. But yes, the exchange can go bankrupt if you have your BTC and you can care less.... well maybe they sell your private data or something, but thats about it Wink

#2 only do that if you want to trade on a regular basis.

If I just open up the .dat file in note pad and it opens it shouldn't be corrupt then right?

Well if notepad can open it the file itself can be opened, but for the btc client to make something usefull of the data they have to be unchanged.

E.g. you open the file in notepad, change something and safe it. Notepad can still open the file, but the bitoin client may no longer consider it a valid walet.dat.

What happens if you backup your wallet.dat

Keep your wallet running on your computer. Earn a couple more BTC then copy over the original wallet.dat file?

The way I understand the wallet it would just update to the "new" version. If it wouldnt you could backup the wallet, spend your btc, restore, repeat.

not in the watch list but it will still be in the "Show new replies to your posts" section. thats what i need to stop.

Wow, thats something I never use Wink

So much old threads there... well I dont think you can change that.
10675  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Backing up to USB on: February 24, 2014, 06:28:52 PM
My friend suggested that once I've deleted my wallet to use the drive wiper feature in cc cleaner and set it to 3 passes, that should do it, do you agree?

Yep, I agree. CC cleaner also is a good tool.

ummmm...ok, so I'd have to load it up on another computer, confirm that my bitcoins are there, then destroy the .dat file on my computer (whilre preserving the one on my usb key obviously.) Is there another way to confirm it's not corrupt? I'd rather not have to load it onto another computer...

Well if the backup is corrupt and you deleted the original .dat you indeed have lost your money.
Not sure if its possible to check without using a computer.

If you are looking for some sort of coldstorage maybe a paperwallet or a newly made offline wallet will suit your needs.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/How_to_set_up_a_secure_offline_savings_wallet provides a nice step by step howto.

Really? no easier way? that means trawlling 100s of pages of [ANN] posts to find mine. some have dropped off the recient posts list in my profile.

Thanks for the fast reply though.

Top right over the OP is an "unwatch" link, click it.
Wow. how did i not see that!!

Thanks

I'm not actually sure if that unwatch feature works, especially if you've got posts in the thread.

Works for me, not sure why it wouldnt for everyone else.

I removed this thread and I'm still getting updates from it.

hmm strange, ill unwatch after this post and see if I get an update. Maybe its a bug?

Ok,, so just to be 10000000% sure, I'm going to export my .dat file, hide it on a few usb keys, then delete my bitcoin wallet, and write over my drive. There is no chance I will lose my btc....right? Right, ,this has been confirmed but I'm still nervous about it!!!

Well dataforensics is very complicated. Sometimes people tell you they can recover everything no matter what you do, but i doubt that. The most realistic information about recovering data I read was: 75% chance to recover a single bit (if overwritten once with random data). So to get a single 7-bit ascii letter right you must have those 7 bits correct, chance for that is .75^7 = 13%. Your wallet.dat has probably >1kb so the chances are very slim to recover those data.

If I may suggest another option: Create a new wallet first and transfer the BTC there, that way you dont have to trust anything or anyone. You might have to pay transactionfees though. But you are 100% sure that your old wallet is empty and you dont have to care if someone can restore it. On the other hand you seem to have some kind of backup in mind (since you are using 3 usb sticks)
