10661  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: April 27, 2021, 03:37:15 AM
I am not sure whether this is a good news for us. I was thinking that they are accumulating Bitcoins for the long term. But it looks as if they are indulging in speculative trading, at least with a part of the stash. They got the coins for a relatively cheap rate, so it makes sense for them to sell some of these coins. But I am curious about the tax implications. They have sold their coins just a few months after the purchase. Therefore short term capital gains tax will be applicable over the gains.
10662  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: You won today, but then you will lose often on: April 27, 2021, 03:27:12 AM
What I did when I'm losing money when I'm still gambling is that, before I start I always put in my mind that whenever I lose I will not try to recover my lost money.

Sometimes it will depend on your mindset, how can you control yourself and your strategies and plans. If you lose, don't ever try to recover it because most of the time you will end up losing more money and not only that the addiction will becoming higher. For me, I believe that when I gamble I will always lose so maybe that also helped me in a way not to gamble again and recover the losses I have.

Chasing after your losses will be the worst strategy to follow when you are gambling. It never works and in the end it will leave you in financial ruin. IMO, the best thing to do when you are losing continuously is to take a break, and admit that it simply isn't your lucky day. If you are losing on a continuous basis and still continuing with the game, then you will end up in a very difficult position. If you want to chase your losses, then do it the next day, and not on the same day.
10663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 27, 2021, 03:17:17 AM
A few Australian players have left India on "personal reasons" but I think it has something to do with the rising cases of COVID in India. I am honestly not sure how him withdrawing from IPL will protect the family. I'm sure players are under strict conditions and being monitored. The only reason I can think of is his wife (And kids) are with him in the Bio-Bubble and are uncomfortable to stay in the Bubble and he had to choose to either come out of the bubble with the family or stay and he chose to get out.

His wife and kids may be with him, but his parents are not. He maybe concerned about them. Also, there may be other relatives for whom he is concerned about. But I am surprised because Ashiwn's hometown (which happens to be one of the venues allotted for IPL this time) is faring relatively better when compared to some of the other metro cities such as Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. My concern is that this may trigger an exodus of a greater number of players form the IPL in the next few days.
10664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ethereum going to Die? on: April 26, 2021, 04:16:25 AM
There is no such thing as the death of ethereum. ethereum is a must in this market. I think the second strongest coin.

There's no guarantee that Ethereum will remain as the no.2 cryptocurrency in the distant future. Before Ethereum became the no.2 cryptocurrency, Ripple was reigning at that position. And before XRP, I think it was Litecoin. The advantage with Ethereum was that it was the first smart contract platform. But nowadays, we have dozens of alternatives and many of them are technologically superior to Ethereum and are having lower fee levels for doing transactions.
10665  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Dogecoin still worth to invest? on: April 26, 2021, 04:03:44 AM
There are a few issues that needs to be addressed, if you want to invest in Dogecoin. Keep these in mind:

1. It is a shitcoin, and in terms of technology it is at least a decade behind the other cryptocurrencies.
2. It is overpriced by a factor of 1,000x or more.
3. The acceptability and adoption remains much lower when compared to the other  cryptocurrencies.
4. Most of those who invest in Dogecoin are unaware of it's history.
5. It is one of the most volatile cryptocurrencies available in the market.
10666  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: April 26, 2021, 03:53:45 AM
I live in Brazil and even after the vaccine reaches hospitals, ...

12% received one dose in Brazil. That is way to low to have any impact. Many more already had covid. So immunity have bigger impact. Without vaccines and immunity situation would be much worse. I know things are bad right now, but at least there is hope. I dont see Brazil can be hit with 4th wave. So this is last one. It just need to be fought and win the battle.
That's way too low to have any effect at all, it's not any better here either. A decent percentage would be at approximately 50% in order to start showing the first positive effects. Countries like the United Kingdom and Israel are a true example of how the vaccination program should be running.

Only 2%-3% got completely vaccinated in Brazil and it will have almost zero impact. Another 10% or so got one dose of the vaccine. But in most cases this is the Sinovac vaccine and as users have already pointed out, this is a less efficient vaccine and the impact won't be visible before the second dose. So there is no guarantee that Brazil can't be hit with a 4th wave, especially when multiple mutant strains are getting reported from that country.
10667  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: April 26, 2021, 03:38:09 AM
I don't know what is their problem with physical casinos, when online gambling is allowed. Also, it would be wrong to say that all forms of gambling are banned in the UAE, since lotteries are very popular there. The Big Ticket Lottery raffle of Abu Dhabi and Millennium Millionaire lottery of Dubai are famous all over the world. How can they claim to be closed to gambling, when they are allowing these lotteries? BTW, the Emirati lotteries are some of the best in the world, as almost the entire amount collected from the ticket sales goes in to the prize pool.
10668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: OSCARS 2021- Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: April 26, 2021, 03:27:59 AM
^^^ Hmm... I was wrong about Schindler's List. I guess I was too much biased towards In the Name of the Father.

BTW, there is a surprise. The Oscar for Best Actor this year is won by Sir Anthony Hopkins!!! That was completely unexpected, but I am glad for him. No one deserved the award better than him. He was simply outstanding in The Father. The best actress award was won by Frances McDormand (Nomadland). And as expected, Nomadland is chosen as the best picture. In most cases, I have to say that this year's awards were won by deserving people.

Yep, it is a shame that Hopkins won't probably win an Oscar for this. Despite the odds I think I will bet some money on him, just in case he wins by some miracle.

LOL.. did you put any money on him?
10669  Economy / Economics / Re: The Coinbase CEO sold 749999 shares of COIN on the first day of the offering on: April 26, 2021, 03:12:54 AM
He sold his own stock at a higher price, to get rich the more, this way he can buy at a lower price. God saved me, wanted to buy high, I kept back my hit button. The coin has  a great future for sure.

He may or may not purchase it back. As per reliable sources, he received $292 million from the sale. I don't know how the IPO/direct listing sales are taxed, but taking a conservative rate of 40%, he will be left with some $175 million in hand. Why should he spend that money to purchased the stocks he just sold? That makes no sense, as he has already paid a 40% tax. My guess is that Brian Armstrong will continue to sell a part of his stock holdings at regular intervals.
10670  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: April 26, 2021, 02:58:23 AM
Venezuelan living in Venezuela.

We have corruption, crime and inflation and Bitcoin and other crypto-assets help our situation.
Politicians and criminals here are always looking for a way to steal whatever we have left, one needs to be careful and having some crypto allow us to have some money in a discreet way.

It is not even completely safe to safe in USD here, because that's what common and in uniform criminals seek the most, a friend of my family got her appartment raided by some crooks because they knew she had some USD in cash.

And of course, the small savings are better in crypto than local currency which goes down between one and two percent everyday in comparison to the USD.

If the government fully legalize the usage of USD, then there will be no need to store all the cash at home, and robberies such as the one mentioned above could be avoided. This is one of the disadvantages with fiat cash. It is very difficult to store the money anonymously, which makes it vulnerable to seizures and robberies. But for smaller transactions, Bitcoin is not very suitable. So in case you want to purchase a can of coke, or a packet of sunflower oil, I don't expect you to pay with BTC. You need USD in such occasions.
10671  Economy / Economics / Re: Janet Yellen to call for unified global corporate tax rate on: April 26, 2021, 02:48:08 AM
Sithara007 : first of all this new corporate tax rate is only for people earning more than 1 million dollars a year. Granted, these people are the ones who own the majority of the stock market, but that's precisely a problem they also want to fix. You can't look at the stock market going up and up and up and conclude the economy is doing great, if most people don't benefit at all from that rise.

Considering what Biden wants to pay with the money raised, it's possible a state like California could end up lowering its own tax, since the federal government would now pay for things that California used to spend money on.

The majority of the stock market is owned by pension funds and mutual funds and therefore any decline in the stock prices will disproportionately impact the pensioners and the middle class. Obviously billionaires own a large share of the stocks, but they hardly sell them in unfavorable circumstances (so there is no question of capital gains tax). For example, Jeff Bezos own around 10% of the Amazon shares and he hasn't sold any of his stocks for the last two decades. They can afford to wait, until a Republican president is elected to power. But the middle class and pensioners can't afford to wait more than 4-5 years.
10672  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 26, 2021, 02:35:31 AM
Only a couple of months remain for the final of the World Test Championship, which will be played at Southampton between India and New Zealand (unless there is any postponement due to COVID 19 situation). Initially Lord's was being scheduled as the venue, but then Southampton was confirmed as it was easier to setup a bio-secure bubble there. This is the first WTC final, and it's going to be exciting. The match is scheduled for 18th June 2021.
10673  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 26, 2021, 02:24:33 AM
Warner and Williamson came out to bat in the super over and both are explosive players but Jonny Bairstow would have been a good choice as he is a much clean striker and Warner is not in good touch like he used to play in the past. Rashid Khan bowled the super over and even he could not take the team as the last two balls were leg bye.

Jonny Bairstow had the best strike rate among these three players, so I agree. Either they could have gone with Warner and Bairstow, with Williamson at no.3, or Williamson and Bairstow, with Warner at no.3. Warner made just 1 run from the first two balls, while Williamson also conceded a dot ball. One additional run could have made the difference. Rashid Khan tried hard, but this time luck was not on his side.
10674  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 32% drop in the value of shares of Coinbase after the fall in the price of Bitc on: April 25, 2021, 04:46:32 AM
The current Coinbase market cap is $58 billion, which is far lower than what was speculated before the listing. Many of the analysts were predicting that the valuation could be as high as $100-$150 billion. The fall is not justified in terms of Bitcoin prices. BTC went down by only 15% and now seems to have stabilized. This may be actually a good opportunity to accumulate some COIN stocks. When the next Bitcoin bull run occurs, I expect the stock to rally to ATH levels.
10675  Economy / Economics / Re: Bangladesh Bank will not leave any digital currency in the market on: April 25, 2021, 04:33:46 AM
The main reason Bangladesh banned the use of cryptocurrency is because they think that it is mainly used for money laundering and until you have users who could convince the authorities that it has a blockchain that collects every transaction made that cannot be altered you will not hear anything from them as they do not like to take the initiative without any public outcry.

I have to disagree to this point. The main reason was that the Bangladesh government was afraid that they will lose their control over the population. Till now, there is no proven cases of money laundering in that country using cryptocurrency. It is just a mirage created by the government to justify their crackdown on cryptocurrency. But at the same time, it is not practical to spy on such huge number of cryptocurrency users in that country and take legal action against a significant portion of them. I really don't think that the authorities have enough manpower to do this.
10676  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin có thể đập tan chủ nghĩa xã hội ở Venezuela? on: April 25, 2021, 04:21:18 AM
Governments must have the power to make their own currency and run their own economies on their own terms. Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency, naturally went along and served the people. People want to use cryptocurrencies because they do not believe in the leadership of the government. That is the weakness in the management mechanism of Venezuela.
Bitcoin is really undermining this country because the money flows away from the banks. The government will not receive any tax or service fees.

LOL..  this is really funny. So you are claiming that cryptocurrency is the root cause of the economic meltdown ongoing in Venezuela? As far as I know, there is hardly any capital outflow from Venezuela. The reason is that, to start with you need to have at least some capital. And Venezuela doesn't have any. Whatever BTC and other cryptocurrency Venezuelan nationals own comes from freelancing and remittances. If you believe that the government should crack down on these routes and pocket 99% of the money for themselves, then I have to disagree.
10677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we use Bitcoin for regular transaction now? on: April 25, 2021, 04:11:06 AM
Should we use Bitcoin for regular transaction now? While mempool is overloaded
So average transaction fee right now is about 16 bucks. Is it to much?

Low priority transactions with fee of around 25 Sat/Byte got confirmed during last hour. So the median fee for low priority transactions stand at around $2 right now. So in case you can wait for 1-2 hours to get your confirmation, you can input a fee of 20-30 Sat/Byte. The Mempool size is still a concern for me. It is still above 200 MB, which is almost 3 times higher than the average size. It will take a few days, or even weeks to clear the backlog.
10678  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: April 25, 2021, 04:01:19 AM
No, it's not that way. IF you will read the OP, it says:

Quote
“We told Bob I get $40 million and Crawford gets $10 million,” said Pacquiao, whose last fight was a stunning win over Keith Thurman in July 2019 in Las Vegas.

Pacman was the one initializing the offer and $10 million is supposed to be the amount that Crawford will get if the fight pushes through but somehow this speculation just faded with the news above this post.

With regards to Pacman fighting this year i think there is still time and in fact some said that he is on a light training at the moment, this is just a sign that he is preparing for a fight.

I am not sure whether this is the case. From what I heard, Pacquiao was initially offered a guaranteed purse of $10 million, plus a share of the proceedings. But he wanted $40 million for himself and $10 million for Crawford in guaranteed payment. And this is where the disagreement came from. The organizers of the fight made sure that they can't increase the purse any further due to the surpressed market conditions and due to the fact that the fight is taking place outside the United States.
10679  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eth Berlin Upgrade and Gambling on: April 25, 2021, 03:51:06 AM
I know most of our crypto casinos and sportsbooks support ethereum deposits, but with the upcoming ethereum Berlin upgrade which is most likely to push transaction fees down, are people going to gamble more knowing that most of us are familiar to the coin and expect lower fees from today?

I don't think that the Berlin update is going to change the transaction fee by a great deal. Ethereum developers have made tall claims previously as well, but very few of such claims got realized. I am not saying that there will be no change in the gas pricing. Nowadays an average user is paying as much as $10 for a single transaction. This may come down to $7 or $8 per transaction. But on the ground, it is not going to make much difference. After a few months, the fee will again go up, which will leave the users frustrated. What we need is a permanent solution, and not some patchwork.
10680  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: April 25, 2021, 03:41:36 AM
I live in Brazil and even after the vaccine reaches hospitals, the number of infected people continues to increase and new mutations appear. Our country is currently broken and we have a horrible president and a population that does not seem to know that we are in the middle of a pandemic, in short, the future will be cruel.

I am not much surprised about the situation in Brazil, because the president Jair Bolsonaro handled the crisis in a very incompetent way. A part of the blame should fall on the citizens of Brazil, because they elected someone who openly supported the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and extermination of indigenous ethnic groups. They thought that only the indigenous tribes would suffer if Bolsonaro is elected as the president. They were wrong. Brazilians irrespective of the ethnicity are suffering now.
