Actually, I think inflation has already exposed the true nature for all to see, and we see one example as it did post Second World War when the theathre owners got together and said, you know what, let's have every ticket issued tied down to a reserve of gold.

In the entire period until 1971, not a single bank defaulted. But then, we all got tired of the lessons and went bank to fractional reserve (and now zero reserve).

I mentioned the theory of degrowth in an earlier post -- what do you think of this as an alternative model to economic growth?
10662  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving, who's closest with actual Nrs TAKE A CHANCE on the LIST !!! on: March 31, 2020, 08:37:42 AM
Previous winner is right smack in the middle there with just over 14 hours to go;)

In fact, it seems the mark is closer to THREE of the previous winners. Maybe some people are better at predicting/coughing up random guesses than others, eh?

Who here thinks we'lll see major move to 5k or 7k?

Well done to the MultiMaster winners (and poker too!!). I still can't play it, sadly, customer support said it was due to my location, although it is strange I can still access other parts of SB. You guys feel weird to play on computer-generated results or it's just me that's weird?Wink

Steve: awesome 10% cashback promo! I could have done with it a while back splashing on roulette =p

Fair enough, figment, I didn't realise they were that vast in difference. I really just use CMC as a quick checker but I see Gecko ranking well in Google these days anyway. But I think rather than discourage CMC, maybe better to encourage proper behaviour and tell people to use multiple sources. It could be part of my apathy is that I don't trade nor speculate more than necessity, and my volume's at p2p anyway... so I don't feel the need to get numbers that are right. I assume everything I see isn't accurate =\
10665  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 30, 2020, 03:58:03 PM
I Just read this in other thread:

And if this happen then toke is far away for anyone to give any competition so he will definitely have the first prize and for rest of the positions I think we will have a good fight until the end. Toke is like Liverpool in this season LOL

A weird choice of teams to choose to play, especially when relegation is potentially much more important to the English teams than Europe competitions at this stage (it's worth a lot more guaranteed money, whereas they could KO early from Europe).

Anyway, yeah, toke, you can donate some btc to me when Liverpool get crowned champs.

I actually still have a nice bet waiting to cash out too (Liverpool winning the season).
10666  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Nights Discussion Thread (private games for btctalk members) on: March 30, 2020, 02:39:40 PM
I have VPN access, but it's simply not working for some. On my SB account for example, I can use VPN to access most of the site, but it still blocks me on some games and options possibly based on my recorded location IPs.

BTW, there are still good free VPNs to use, as simple as browser extensions, if all you need is access.

Also, ok with same SwC settings. Could do with much earlier time though with daylight savings I def can't make it

I am also trying for many years and luck never been with me some time I really feel frustrated but cannot do any thing now just avoiding all these casino games and doing some other stuff which not related to these gambling sites
It is not wrong to avoid casinos because you think luck is out of your hand. It is called being cautious about your spending. Its not wrong because you are just taking back control instead of giving urges take the control.

Quote
hopefully in near future I will be free of this all and try on just sports betting which is really fun for me for very long time.
Sports betting requires some skills but it also has the luck in it. You can analyze games and make predictions based on that but luck always plays a factor in these predictions of being right or wrong. If you are getting insider info them you might be winning big but just betting on your favorite teams will not always give you a good outcome.

No need to wait for the near future, though. Most bookies have some kind of free thing going on now without deposit. Fiat sportsbooks usually give you boosted odds on first bet or even just free bets. FJ has free competitions, and gives out all those bonuses periodically. No need to wait, just go and try;)

I would say it's a lot of luck, but since I bet on long odds, a bit of knowledge of the game helps a lot too, when trying to identify a win possibility all the bookies are ignoring.

@Betwrong sorry I must have miscommunicated what I meant =D For the average player trying impossible hits like that, they lose maybe I don't know hundreds of dollars at most in a year just trying for dumb luck.

But what I meant by wiping out an old player was the MoneyPot example I was talking about. They had a lotto game that people kept winning huge Bitcoin jackpots by only playing with a few satoshi. It was practically unlikely but statistically possible -- and it wiped out what was once the crypto gambling industry's biggest bitcoin bankroll.
10669  Economy / Exchanges / Re: From UK, Understanding Investing Jargon help on: March 30, 2020, 10:23:05 AM
Volume is basically "this is what they say they have versus what they probably really have" and none of them are really fully true, you need permission to get to their website to see what they actually have with some sort of API.

I think, for the average user like me, Coingekko and Coinmarketcap really aren't very much different from each other. I've never really understood why the hate for CMC, when they're only giving, as you say: "what they say they have versus what they probably have".

I mean, honest data reporting should not be expected from any centralised exchange, and the aggregator can only report what's reported.

But to OP: Coinbase. You're at least protected by some of the guarantees they have as a registered financial institution in the UK. Otherwise, take out your own insurance =)
10670  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: March 30, 2020, 09:19:15 AM
In case anyone wants to relive classic moments from their favourite team/game, here's a collection of UEFA games free to watch on UEFA TV:
https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro-2020/news/025b-0f07234151fa-fe167d581509-1000--watch-classic-games-on-uefa-tv/

Favourite watch for me so far is the highlights of Liverpool's 4-3 Dortmund escape. Forgot how young Coutinho looked. And wow our defenders scoring haha. The list actually doesn't have the Istanbul final so you could say I'm aggrieved =p
10671  Economy / Exchanges / Re: The Binance card is here on: March 29, 2020, 08:21:21 PM
@LeGaulois yeah Binance has been pretty adept at moving ahead of the regulation curve, though I suspect it's really because of a strong relationship with the current China regime, otherwise they'd have gone after Binance no matter how many times they jumped ship. Even their CSR efforts and diversification out into other blockchain sectors is all in preparation for this.

I foresee a huge whitelabelling brand in the end and a very small Binance-only foothold.
10672  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com | Crypto Powered Sportsbook and Casino | 🎰 🏀 ⚾ 🏈 🎾 🥊 🎲 on: March 29, 2020, 07:40:19 PM
Thanks for the update @betwrong and yeah, I'm pretty sure 10 btc wins aren't unusual for the big players and vets in the space, just as I said, I remember how the unlikely yet possible megahits with dust amounts wiped out one of the old players. High win limits are definitely attractive but they must know what they're doing to expose themselves to that amount of risk or relatively small gains;) Kudos in any case!

@Buwaytrees I think it is time we get you to join the esports revolution mate, a lot of us have been moving towards gambling on esports and honestly it may be as talent required as regular sports as well. A lot of regular sports people are actually quite talentless compared to these esports people, consider the third league bench player that gets paid, there is nothing like that in esports, there is already not all that many awesome teams and all those teams hire only the best of the players so there is usually a very very top heavy talent pool.

It does create some awesomeness to watch them, plus there are so many young kids growing up to be esports players every single year and you see the improvement of talent is unlike anywhere else, new ones always gets better than the older ones, games are at a way different level than 10 years ago talentwise.

Maybe so, maybe so. But I got into sportsbetting mainly because I played the games (except tennis, which I can't play for shit). It's really because I was a football player that I got interested plus the feeling of riding with your team, almost as if betting on them is also putting money where my mouth is.

I think it's unfair to compare sports people and esports. It's a different kind of talent, and you simply don't get the same kind of family gathering and community support with esports. There's definitely a camaraderie there but very niche and it can get elitist. Just my opinion.
10674  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Nights Discussion Thread (private games for btctalk members) on: March 29, 2020, 04:18:37 PM
Hey guys, realised two things today:
Daylight savings put me an hour ahead so the game is at 6pm which is not good for me thanks to househusband duties =( Nevertheless I attempted to play like last week but this time, am locked out.

It started happening with Multimaster, and now Poker too. Support told me before, let's just say that it's a problem of the IP location I'm accessing from, which simply won't let me go in. Sorry =\

Good luck all! Damn that extra pot;)
10675  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 29, 2020, 03:17:07 PM
@examplens: I'm down for that, maybe ask all yellow hats and wooden spoons to do a random draw too, to pick the bonus winners. I know. Complicated. I think I've had one yellow hat, or was that last season? haha.

@LFC: Yeah, we'll just wait. It'll resume, in whatever form, and whenever. And it'll still be fun. And everyone in football will remember our (eventual) win;)

@cryptofrka: I actually have been reading a lot about the "degrowth movement" since last year and it's funny that this is happening now. Hard to summarise easily here but in degrowth, negative GDP isn't such a bad thing and it focuses on work that brings actual value to society. This is one good article about it: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/bj9yjq/the-radical-plan-to-save-the-planet-by-working-less

10676  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not as risky as many think. on: March 29, 2020, 12:56:25 PM
Bitcoin does look bad to them because the media has been skirting opinions so that both bitcoin and cryptocurrency look bad because it only raises issues that are truly fatal to ordinary people. But apart from that bitcoin is also as risky as other investments but bitcoin risk is slightly smaller. That's my opinion

Don't know really. With public trust in media these days, I would actually say people are a bit more intelligent than we take them for, and they probably will ask themselves at some point if Bitcoin really is as bad as all the people responsible for taking the economy down are saying. I'd actually prefer people to see for themselves the misconceptions and misinformation that's spread about Bitcoin. Better than the shillfest that positive media headlines seem to be all about.
10677  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: March 29, 2020, 11:32:20 AM
Well of course the ones who's interests it's in to do so will want this, but the most logical thing is just pause the league indefinitely and restart it as soon as they are able. If they cancel the league there will be lawsuits by numerous clubs, especially from Liverpool and teams that will be relegated and ones not promoted from the lower leagues. Obviously football is going to be gone forever so just resume the league as soon as they can and then nobody can complain. When that's finished have a short break or even just carry on the next season like it's just another round of games.

Yeah, I think if we start removing all the thinking about profits, TV deals, partnerships, etc, that's the most obvious and logical thing to do. But if we start thinking about them, even legally, litigation would be far more costly than paying off contractual obligations (plus surely they've got insurance).

P.S. Anyone read tThe talk emerging about players not being fit after so long not playing, well, that's also really silly. If players aren't keeping fit on their own, they shouldn't be paid salaries.
10678  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the Crypto Community Be Worried About the Oil Crash? on: March 29, 2020, 10:01:12 AM
Depends on where you live and how oil is part of your economy. I'll give you 2 scenarios:

1. Brunei.
- Oil price fixed at 53 brunei cents (currently about $0.37) since 1983. That's also the highest quality petrol you can get. You get cheaper fuel if you want.
- 0 taxable income.
- Oil is virtually all of state revenue
- welfare state, pensions, free healthcare, free education till University (actually you even get a student allowance and get sent abroad)

Since oil started crashing around 2014 (thereabouts, can't remember) state's been cutting down on benefits. Fewer scholarships, fewer trips outside, more strict welfare rules. It affects all Bruneians.

2. Malaysia
- Oil price subsidised by govt, floating price since the noughties
- One of the highest taxable income in the region.
- Oil is a majority but not all of state revenue
- hugely increasing foreign debt since the noughties

Govt complains of less and less revenue thanks to oil price, but people are happier as petrol has never been cheaper. Petrol price has a huge knockon effect for the consumer. Food gets more expensive. Public transport too. Regular Malaysians are happier now. Rich Malaysians not so.
10679  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. Recession short term on: March 29, 2020, 08:35:15 AM
The problem is that no matter how wealthy the state no matter how you reduce your necessities, there won't be money, plus you need a lot of money to start again the entire economy. We might be safe for a few months, if this goes beyond June we're all going to experience a true recession, unlike 2007 which will be a joke compared.

Absolutely, people need to eat and pay the bills so for as long as the state can shoulder some of that burden, it'll be fine. Same as what I always say about Bitcoin (people aren't gonna go out and buy more in crisis, they're gonna buy rice and bread first). But it's not going to work out if things go on like this, economy wise. The system really needs to break beyond repair.

This will be bad, and like you, I feel terrible about those whose livelihoods rely on mobility. My two siblings work in event management and hotel industry, so those were actually going down even second half of 2019. Then when Chinese tourists and businessmen stopped coming, that was it.
10680  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not as risky as many think. on: March 28, 2020, 08:34:57 PM
Nah, I hope people should have to think about it before entering into the crypto world.
I know a lot of people might be wondering what people are doing in the crypto investment and how real it is. Many were asking how it generates money and how quick it is and many were saying to easy but in reality, its a kinda difficult to make it especially during the bear season.

Bitcoiner though I be, I'm also telling people it's not as safe as many speculators would like you to think.

It's as real as stocks and forex. But also as risky, if not even more so. The fact people ask if it generates money and how quickly or how easy? Just says a lot about how misunderstood Bitcoin is -- even if strictly from the sense of investment/speculation.
