10741  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: April 19, 2021, 03:39:24 AM
Probably the greatest boxer in the Philippines but one of the greatest in the world per ranking. He is only a boxer but a politician as well, so in terms of popularity, it's not a problem for him, but is the election in the Philippines is a popularity contest?

Just because he is insanely popular as a boxer, it doesn't mean that he will get the same level of support from the citizens for his residential bid. The current president of Philippines do have insanely high approval levels (Rodrigo Duterte) and the only reason he is not running in the 2022 elections is due to term limitation. Right now it looks as if politicians such as Sara Duterte, Isko Moreno and Bongbong Marcos are the front runners, with Pacquiao trailing in the opinion polls.

Watching Maxwell and ABD bat like the way they did was very entertaining to watch which helped RCB post a score over 200. The Knight Riders couldn't put any partnerships together, just when they were starting to build a partnership the Challengers were able to take the vital wickets.

The advantage for Royal Challengers Bangalore is that almost all of their batsmen are in top form, and his includes Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. For the Kolkata Knight Riders, the top order (Nitish Rana/Shubman Gill/Rahul Tripathi) is in good form, but the same can't be said about the middle and lower order. Dinesh Karthik has failed repeatedly, while Andre Russell has been inconsistent.

We are already in to the 5th month of global vaccination campaign and till now only around 2% of the population has got themselves fully vaccinated. And the vaccine manufacturers themselves are saying that they don't have the capacity to increase the production considerably. So at least for this year, I don't expect the vaccination to eradicate or even contain the pandemic. And another worrying fact is that the vaccination needs to be repeated after ever 2 years or so, as the antibodies won't last for more than 12-24 months.
If everyone who has been vaccinated had to repeat it every 2 years or so, that would mean humans would depend on vaccines to increase their antibodies. Could this vaccine make the human body unable to produce antibodies naturally to prevent disease?

@Abiky, I agree that the government should focus on improving public health first before focusing on improving the economy. Although both are very important, health remain a priority.

There is no proof that vaccines make it difficult for the body to produce antibodies naturally. Right now we don't have any other choice. Once the pandemic is controlled, there will be no need to vaccinate everyone. But that will take place only after at least one round of universal vaccination. More worrying is the fact that the virus is mutating now. South Asian countries are reporting more deaths because a "double-mutant" variant of the virus has been spreading among the population. We need to vaccinate everyone and contain the pandemic, before the virus mutates further and becomes more lethal.
10744  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-30 TheVerge - PayPal will let US users pay with Bitcoin on: April 18, 2021, 04:47:27 AM
The personal opinion of individual users to the quality of the service has nothing to do with this news, it seems to me! This very step with the connection of such a service option already gives it advantages over those who have not done this. We live in a very competitive world where every decision, especially when it comes to such corporations, can cost a lot. In this case, I see only positive in this news, both for the bitcoin market and for the company itself.

I agree. Overall, it is a net positive. I don't know why so many people here (in this forum) are angry with this news. Being a decentralized asset, Bitcoin is open to anyone. So no one can really say that PayPal should stay out of Bitcoin. If we do that then there will be hardly any difference between fiat currency and cryptocurrency. For my part, I have seen only positives ever since PayPal started integrating Bitcoin to its platform in 2020.
10745  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: April 18, 2021, 04:37:25 AM
the most painful thing was when I couldn't go back to my hometown. last year's eid al-fitr was the worst of my life. I agree with you that this pandemic is capable of making anything abnormal become normal. maybe some people will continue to think this abnormal is something normal...

Festivals are turning out to be super-spreader events and you need to avoid it. Here in India, the second wave started after the Holi festival. Before that we were having on average less than 10,000 new cases per day. And yesterday 260,000 new cases were reported in India (despite some states not reporting their numbers because Sunday is a holiday). Festivals can be celebrated next year as well. So for the greater good, I would suggest everyone to skip these festivals this year.
10746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk name once again used to fool people by hackers! on: April 18, 2021, 04:27:20 AM
It is possible to eradicate these fraudsters, awareness is the only solution that you cannot get free money and if anyone is offering by asking you to send money first 100% of the time it is a scam.

When your brain is purely driven by greed, it becomes incapable of doing logical thinking. From what I have seen, a lot of cryptocurrency users are relatively careless while dealing with their coins. That is wrong and they need to treat cryptocurrency on par with fiat currency. If it was a fiat currency plan, where you need to spend $500,000 in cash to Elon Musk, will anyone be willing to make that transfer? The problem is that we treat fiat currency as money and are more relaxed when it comes to cryptocurrency.
10747  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: April 18, 2021, 04:16:05 AM
^^^^^ Ganguly has made some positive changes as the President of BCCI. For the first time, the BCCI has voiced support for the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Olympics. This is ground-breaking, as previously the BCCI, CA and ECB had a cabal to sabotage this move.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/news/bcci-agrees-to-field-both-mens-womens-teams-for-2028-los-angeles-olympics/articleshow/82106983.cms

Quote
The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has agreed to field both men’s and women’s teams for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. BCCI has also agreed to field its women’s team or the Birmingham Commonwealth Games next year.

This would have never happened if Sharad Pawar or N Srinivasan was in power. When ex-players head the cricket boards (instead of politicians and businessmen) they always give preference to the well-being of the sport, sidelining the other selfish motives.

This is a good sign, and hopefully his other target (quadrilateral series) will be realized as well.
10748  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ibrahimovic under FIFA and UEFA investigation on: April 18, 2021, 04:00:56 AM
I think several people have already noticed that the penalty is not 100 million Euros, but 100 thousand Euros. A drop in the bucket for Ibrahimovic.

In any case, if Ibra were found guilty, he might be in deep trouble... because a three-year suspension from FIFA, during which he would be suspended from all football activities, would hurt him much more.

Going by the pace of the investigation, I don't think that any punishment will be handed out this year. Personally I feel that a 3-year suspension will be disproportional. But even if they decide to hand out such a punishment, then I don't expect it before 2022 or even 2023. And by that time Ibrahimovic will be 40 or 41 and happily retired from the game. I am saying this after looking at the investigation process during 2018-2021.
10749  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: April 18, 2021, 03:50:35 AM
the vaccine will not make you immune but only to reduce the effects if you are infected with the virus. we can't see the effects of the vaccine any time soon, it will take a while for us to draw a conclusion. I hope this is the end of this pandemic  Cry

You are wrong on multiple fronts. First of all, the vaccine prevents you from contracting the disease (with up to 95% efficiency). And even in case you are infected after the vaccination, the symptoms are likely to be very mild. And secondly, you are wrong when you claim that the effects of the vaccine won't be seen anytime soon. Because we have already seen the impact in countries such as Israel, United Kingdom and Seychelles where the vaccination program has progressed well.
10750  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: April 18, 2021, 03:40:12 AM
There won't be any because Bitcoin is not at all suitable as a currency for everyday use. There is no country in the world where you go to the bakery in the morning and pay with gold. Moreover, a country would give up its sovereignty over money. No politician would do that.

You are absolutely spot on. Bitcoin can be used as a payment, but it is not suitable for making day to day payments. The confirmation tome can vary from 5 minutes to 1 hour. Who is going to wait for this much time, to get his payment confirmed? Another issue is with the extremely high transaction fee. It's on the rise once again, and yesterday everyone was paying an average fee of around $20. Imagine paying this much as the fee for a coffee or burger, which itself costs just $3.
10751  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: OSCARS 2021- Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: April 18, 2021, 03:30:26 AM
As a matter of fact, Heath Ledger was nominated in "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" category back in 2006 for his role in Brokeback Mountain (if it was up to me I would have give him Oscar, but competition that years was tough, and it would be unfair to say that Philip Seymour Hoffman winning that Oscar was undeserving). Regarding his Oscar for "Best Supporting Actor", it wouldn't make much sense to nominate him for the Leading Role as he simply wasn't a lead role in The Dark Knight.

And yeah, Chadwick Boseman will probably win an Oscar, but in my mind I have no doubt who actually deserved it, and that is Anthony Hopkins.

There is nothing like a posthumous award and therefore the Oscar for best actor should be given to the best performance irrespective of whether that individual is alive or not. Therefore I agree with you that Anthony Hopkins deserves the award much more than Chadwick Boseman. But under current political circumstances, it will be impossible for the jury to give the award to anyone other than Chadwick Boseman. Even if they want to do that, they can't. That's the bitter truth.
10752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 18, 2021, 03:20:54 AM
Yes, the Pakistan team had a great tour of SA and lets now hope they can continue on with the winning form as they should against Zimbabwe but in the past we have seen the Pakistan team come off a good series win to then play poorly in the next series. Zimbabwe shouldn't really be a challenge for Pakistan but that's as long as Pakistan continue to play well and not drop off thinking that Zimbabwe will be a walk over.

I don't understand the point in allowing Zimbabwe to play test matches against stronger teams. If the PCB want to help the Zimbabweans, then they should have limited the number of matches to just one. There are other deserving teams out there. Afghanistan and Ireland have hardly played any test matches after they received the test status. Then why this largesse towards Zimbabwe? And from what I have seen, their quality has deteriorated further and they have no chance against teams such as Pakistan.
10753  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 1 Million BNB Burnt today on: April 17, 2021, 04:33:26 AM
1 million is very significant, given that the entire circulating supply is only 154 million. And this makes BNB unique when compared to other altcoins such as XRP and DOGE. I don't think that a lot many of the altcoins have this decreasing supply algorithm, similar to what they have in BNB. It benefits the users in the end, as the burn events increase the value of the remaining coins. And the impact can be seen in the exchange rates as well. BNB is holding on, despite the disappointing NASDAQ listing by Coinbase.
10754  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Give reasons why ETH is better than BSC on: April 17, 2021, 04:20:53 AM
IMO, the only advantages that ETH has over BSC is that the former has more adoption, due to being the first in the market. Ethereum was the first smart contract platform and this fact helped it to gain the market leader position from a very early date. There are dozens of technologically better alternatives available and one of them is BSC. But the users are reluctant to move from ETH chain to BSC. But once some big projects make the transition, BSC will quickly overtake ETH chain.
10755  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase reported significant user growth before IPO on: April 17, 2021, 04:06:03 AM
Coinbase claims to have an userbase of 56 million verified users. So first of all, it is really surprising to know that less than one-tenth of them can be described as "monthly active users". Why should anyone go through the rigorous KYC process, if they don't want to trade regularly (at least once in a month)? One reason may be that Coinbase is quite old (in terms of crypto). It was founded in 2012, and a lot of the users from those days may no longer be active now. I am sure that the ratio of active users to registered users will be much better for Binance.
10756  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Transactions Fees x Gambling on: April 17, 2021, 03:56:20 AM
Hey guys, I was wondering on how do you fund your Gambling Account if we currently have high fees on ERC20 and Bitcoin?

Many gambling websites now offer many cryptocurrencies to use on their platform. To have lesser fees I often use TRX or doge to play, the amount you will earn is still the same if you convert it to stablecoins. It also has an advantage using those because you can play longer with those cheap coins. Even if the fees are low, using bitcoin or ethereum to gamble is not good for me because you are just wasting a big amount money in the future. This is what I've realized wasting more than 0.01btc just to gamble in the past.

If you have TRX or DOGE already in your wallet, then there is nothing wrong in using them for making the payment. On my part, I mostly go with BTC, since I don't have a lot many altcoins with me. Purchasing altcoins using BTC and then using them for the payment can be counterproductive, due to the extremely unstable exchange rates. And I don't necessarily agree with the last part of your post. The payment needs to be made and it doesn't really matter whether you are using BTC or fiat for that. If you really feel that you will lose out in the future, then why can't you purchase a large amount of BTC right now, rather than worrying about spending these small amounts?
10757  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: April 17, 2021, 03:45:14 AM
It's not been proven that the available vaccines really cured those covid patients, most likely the vaccines is used to prepare
our immune system in case covid hit us.

There's no proven information that covid will be termanated, looking from all the status from each sides of the world, another
waves are hitting most countries.

We have proof that countries where the vaccination has reached good coverage has managed to reduce new cases by 90% to 98%. I am talking about countries such as Israel and the United Kingdom. You can check the COVID 19 situation in these countries. You are right on part, because the vaccines doesn't prevent the disease in 100% of the cases. Their efficacy ranges form 50% to 95%. But in remaining cases, the vaccine will make sure that the infected person doesn't require hospitalization.
10758  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: April 17, 2021, 03:26:18 AM
I do think that Manny Pacquiao has still some steam left for him to be able to do hard boxing in his age. I also think that any fighter might want to deal with Pacquiao because it is a money making machine when it comes to fighting the boxer. Much more so if you are able to beat the boxer. But right now the priorities are different with Manny especially he now has businesses and a political career to take care of. Being tagged as an absentee politician is a serious matter here and it can make or break someone who wants to achieve higher positions.

All these allegations were levelled against him even during the 2019 fight (against Thurman), but then we all know how it turned out in the end. Concerns about his age were raised back then as well. Also, there are accusations that he is concentrating on boxing too much, when he needs to spend his time as the senator. Personally I feel that he should have waited till his retirement to jump in to the political field. Now it has become difficult for him to manage both.
10759  Economy / Economics / Re: Turkish Central Bank Forbids use of cryptocurrencies as a mean of Exchange. on: April 17, 2021, 03:15:07 AM
Very dumb move by the Turkish Central Bank. How do you even sensor Peer-peer payment system? Don't these people think before they act? they want to control everything and slowly make the people poor. This is going to have no negative effect on the crypto world, Turkish economy doesn't define world trade, it's a good trade and investment destination. The real crypto guys will bypass this and I expect some litigation against this Central Bank action.

Check the original thread again. The central bank hasn't banned the P2P transactions. The ban only covers usage of cryptocurrency as a form of payment, to purchase goods and services. There is no ban, if you want to sell your cryptocurrency for fiat (either using the mainstream exchanges or the P2P platforms). So the solution is actually very simple. You first need to convert your BTC to fiat, before purchasing these goods/services.
10760  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: April 17, 2021, 03:05:05 AM
I thought the country wanted to go digital in their currency to fight inflammation. If Petrodollar has failed, why not the country adopt bitcoin as a major currency alongside their dead fiat to fight inflammation?. I understand the country has a major political crisis and riddled with corruption. Printing more fiat won't help the nation move forward.

I don't think any country in the foreseeable future will make Bitcoin as the national currency. Why should they? With fiat currency, the government can print unlimited amounts of money and use it for various expenses. It suits bankrupt countries such as Venezuela. If they go for Bitcoin, then due to the principle of controlled supply, it is not possible to do that. I don't think that the Venezuelan government can afford to give any sort of legality on the usage of Bitcoin as a legal tender.
