1081  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: January 11, 2017, 04:27:42 PM
I don't recommend using this option as the default seed should be secure and random enough and if you use this option to use a seed from a static file, someone else with the same seed could generate the private keys for the addresses you create.
Option -s uses a random file as extra input. If you search for the same prefix twice, you don't get the same result.

Are you sure its extra input and not replacing the RNG data that is normally used?

samr7 indicated the following in the initial post:
Quote
Nonetheless, if you feel the default RNG is unable to provide numbers that are sufficiently difficult to guess, vanitygen can be directed to seed the RNG from an external file using the -s option

That line seems to indicate its seeding entirely from the external file and not just using it as additional data.
1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT Core Problem - Keypool 100 transactions limi - Reward for help: 2 BTC on: January 11, 2017, 04:23:05 PM
This is incorrect. The wallet.dat file is not a text file, it is a binary file in the Berkeley DB format.

Whoops. I was looking at an Electrum wallet.dat file which likely uses a different format.

So I tried to open using the terminal:

I entered this:

Code:
/Applications/Bitcoin-Qt.app/Contents/MacOS/Bitcoin-Qt -salvagewallet

It open the wallet and close in few seconds. Is this the command I need to enter to use this -salvagewallet option?

That should be the correct method. Try checking the debug.log file which should generate some output on the results of the salvage wallet command.
1083  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem transaction fee too low. still don't receive money back!! on: January 11, 2017, 03:39:55 PM
Hello Electrum team/ everyone

I have problem as stated on the subject. Now, I have been waiting for 5-6 days. But transaction is still unconfirmed!. How long I have to wait?
I sent about 0.7 BTC Sad

Thank for help!
Roo

How low was the fee? I recommend using dynamic fees in the future to help ensure adequate fees are used for transactions.

You may be able to help push the TX through by creating a new transaction with the change of the first transaction and including a high fee. This sometimes encourages miners to include your transaction so that they can claim the fee of the new transaction.

Hello, guys.

I HAVE GOOD NEWS! Not so much, but it is good news.

Someone saw this thread and discussed privately with me, sending all the necessary comments for I use on the Pywallet. Thanks you so much!

I'm on OSX, we used this command on Pywallet:

Code:
sudo /Users/XXX/Downloads/pywallet-master/pywallet.py --recover --recov_device /dev/rdisk0 --recov_size 1024Gio --recov_outputdir /Users/XXXX/Documents/Lucky

After I run this command, it shows this:

Found 12 possible wallets
Found 5862 possible encrypted keys
Found 0 possible unencrypted keys

And generate a .dat file on the folder /Users/XXXX/Documents/Lucky

So now, I need someone help:

1) I tried to open on Bitcoin-QT this .dat but didn't worked. How can I use this .dat file to see the private keys there?
2) How may I use this command again and generate a document showing the private key?
3) Usually, the keys would appear on the screen for Windows Users. For Mac, we will need to add something to the command for the output generate a txt.

Thanks for your attention!

Assuming the .dat file isn't corrupted. You should be able to simpy open the .dat file in a texteditor or use cat to view the contents of the file. The private keys will be in this file listed under xprv . If the wallet is encrypted, you may need to unencrypt it first.

If the file looks to be corrupt, I would try the following.  Run bitcoin application with the -salvagewallet parameter via command line. This command attempts to salvage public/private keys and master encryption keys (if the wallet is encrypted) into a new wallet.dat .
1085  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What if your wallet provider goes under? on: January 11, 2017, 03:09:48 PM
Yeah, MultibitHD isn't an online wallet so all the processing is done on your local PC. As long as you have a copy of the application, you should be able to continue to use it even if the company stops development.

Also, with most online wallets, you can download a backup of your key files which can be used to recover your funds in a local application should the website stop working.
1086  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: January 11, 2017, 03:00:40 PM
how it works in oclvanitygen?
-s <file>     Seed random number generator from <file>\n

This option is used to tell VanityGen to use a seed from the file you specify instead of its default seed ( which is from OpenSSL or /dev/urandom on Linux ).

I don't recommend using this option as the default seed should be secure and random enough and if you use this option to use a seed from a static file, someone else with the same seed could generate the private keys for the addresses you create. This feature is likely designed for if you have a hardware RNG device that you wish to use as a seed which I doubt many people have.

What operating system are you using? Did you recently upgrade the OS or install any updates, etc?

If the new version works, I'm not sure there is really a need to get the old one working again to be honest.
Windows 10. Bitcoin 0.12.1 was installed on this and it did work.

I think there is need to get the old one working again since it has my coins.

The new version should be able to use your existing wallet file without an issue as far as I know. I'd be more concerned with getting the new wallet working with your wallet file if I were you. It should load your existing wallet by default I think. Was it not doing this?

No, using my old wallet with the coins gives runaway exception and the client won't start.

You mean when using the new version of Bitcoin Core with your old wallet, you are also seeing the exception error?

First off, I would make a backup of your wallet file for safety purposes. It is possible your wallet file is corrupted and causing this error.

Then, I would try running bitcoin application with the -salvagewallet parameter via command line. This command attempts to salvage public/private keys and master encryption keys (if the wallet is encrypted) into a new wallet.dat

I explain to them .. I try to register in -snip- And he does not let me register because he sends me the message that I already put

I wouldn't visit this link. It comes up with "The web page is on the list of websites with potentially dangerous content." so its flagged as being malicious for some reason.

And this forum really isn't the place to come for support for that site anyway.
1090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Who can push my low fee tx - will pay on: January 11, 2017, 05:28:31 AM
You can try spending the change of the transaction with a high fee. This will sometimes cause the miners to include your original transaction when they try to include the newer transaction with the higher fee.
1091  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BitSler Scammed Me. BE CAREFUL on: January 11, 2017, 03:26:03 AM
If your account was indeed compromised, they should be able to provide you with an IP that logged in as well as an address your funds were withdrawn to.

Is this information visible in your account or have you requested it from support if not?

1094  Economy / Economics / Re: The Beauty of an Exchange---Server Side on: January 11, 2017, 01:29:05 AM
Why don't the exchanges do what the banks do, which is take out insurance against hacking? I think Coinbase has insurance, but they appear to be the only ones.

I wonder what the requirements for an exchange to get insurance against hacking would be? I'm assuming they would require some sort of code audit in order to qualify? Seems like it would be pretty risky for insurance companies to ensure against hacking for these large exchanges.
1095  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ESHOP launched] Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: January 11, 2017, 01:24:17 AM
I have a few Trezor 1 wallets, gave them away as Christmas presents one year, love them, promote them, best wallet on the market, etc.

When can I buy the Trezor 2?

Trezor 2 hasn't been released yet and is still in production. As far as I know, they haven't posted any ETAs or release dates yet.

I've been debating getting a hardware wallet but might hold off to see when Trezor2 gets released.

Yes I understand however consider this scenario. Lets assume house edge is 0% for simplicity.

Say you take 100 bets, 50 are winners and 50 are losers.

Then lets say you take another 100 bets, 10 are winners, and 90 are losers.

So the house is winning and eventually sometime in the future, the stats must shift so Casino wins 50% and you win 50% of the time.

So chances are the next 100 bets, there will be more winners than losers.

I am sure there are many who make good money with similar methods as I described.

One would expect the wins/losses to even out over a significant amount of time, but this easily leads to Gambler's Fallacy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy ). There is really isn't a higher chance of more winners in the next 100 bets. It's all up to chance on what will happen.

Hmm, I think it is for BlackJack professional players Smiley  and yes it is a very good addition to the game.  It is fun to see how other players react on opponents bluff.  I always love it when they take the fake and get lost with their strategy.  Wait, there will be player vs player and player vs. Ai?

Version 3 of BitDice had blackjack and it was just player vs. AI (provably fair of course). I don't forsee player versus player or multiplayer features being included.

Many games are coming. The next one to be released will be Blackjack.

I think BlackJack is a great choice. at least to me slots tends to start bore me after some time. With Blackjack you actually do play and can keep my focus way longer even if losing.

Yep, BlackJack is definitely a fun game to have. It gives you more of a feel over the impact of the result as you can choose whether to hit/stay/etc.

Yep, they have NFL games on the 14th/15th that you can wager on. This looks like a pretty fun promo. I'll try my luck and see if I can manage to hit a 4-leg promo.
1100  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can anyone recommend an iPhone BTC app that doesn't suck? on: January 10, 2017, 03:32:36 PM
Try Breadwallet for IOS super secure and super easy to use, the apps creator answers questions on here and on twitter, within hours, highly recommend Smiley

Yeah, I've heard good things about Breadwallet for IOS as well. Whenever Electrum finally releases its IOS version, I'm thinking it will be the goto choice for IOS if it is anywhere near the quality of their desktop version.
