10821  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: June 25, 2021, 04:00:22 AM
It's a question whether where are the brothers right now?

Did they left South Africa, have plastic surgery, change their names, apply for a new password and have plastic surgery and now living in a third world country? hehehe.

Or will the victims hire a private investigators since the police can't do anything, or even a blockchain analysis to track where the coins are?

There was a similar incident a few years back in India.

https://www.theweek.in/news/india/2019/08/31/kingpin-of-485-crore-kerala-bitcoin-scam-murdered-in-dehradun.html

Back then, one of the exchange owner tried to double cross the co-owners, by claiming that the coins were hacked. His friends found out that he was lying and they tortured him to reveal what he did with the coins. The guy died during interrogation and the coins are all gone now. The co-owners are rotting in jail, with a prison sentence of 14 years slapped on each of them.

And what you have posted is not very easy to do. They may be able to travel to another country which doesn't have an extradition treaty with South Africa. But it is near impossible to hide their real identities. Eventually one of those bad guys who lost his money in Africrypt is going to track them down. Then it is going to be fun.

Did Srilankan board and Players resolved their contract drama? Last i heard SL players were fighting over new contract and refused to sign it.

Looks like every team is on practice mode for the upcoming T-20 WC. Next month almost every team is touring here and there and playing bilateral T-20 + ODI series. Good to see Proteas also touring Ireland for the limited overs cricket.

The ICC is yet to confirm the venue change for T20 World Cup. They have a meeting next week, and if there are no last minute surprises, then the formal announcement may be made. Meanwhile the Oman Cricket Board has already announced that one of their grounds will be hosting the world cup matches. Next week's meeting is going to be chaotic. The big 3 are opposing ICC's decision to include 8 global events in the next cycle (2023-31). But the smaller boards want this many events, as they are heavily dependent on the funds from the ICC.
10823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 25, 2021, 03:40:30 AM
Hungary tried their best in the Euro. They played with strong countries with star players and still struggle to lose  only one match and draw twice. People actually thought they was not going to have any points. So sad, this is the end of road for them in the Euro 2020.

One thing I liked about Hungary is that almost their entire team was of Hungarian descent (the only exception I could find was Loïc Négo). On the other hand, the Western European nations fielded squads that were predominantly composed of players who were born in Africa or Latin America. Obviously in football the eligibility rules are quite tight and you can't include non-citizens in the squad. But many of these players (Kimpembe, Pogba, Mbappé, Dembélé.etc) had the option of representing their country of descent as well. They chose European countries for obvious reasons. Now this is a disadvantage for the poorer countries.
10824  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 25, 2021, 03:30:19 AM
I don't think you are getting what I am saying. If you too tomorrow create a trust and transfer your shares into that you too will not be taxed. This is the law. BMGF is a 501(c)(3) organization. There are around 1.6 Million such tax-exempt foundations in the U.S. It wasn't bill gates who got preferential treatment, even a person like you can create such an institution if you have the right knowledge. If you are in India too, you can easily open a charitable Institution u/s 11 of Income Tax Act,1961.

Whenever your foundation sells the shares they will not be taxed. This is how it works.

While I am giving you a way of tax planning, you are just cribbing about the fact that Bill Gates used a tax loophole for tax planning. I am telling you the law is the same for a 1000$ Shareholder and Bill Gates if both of them don't sell it but transfer it to their charitable organization.

How many of us can do this? You are posting, as if registering a charitable trust is an easy task. It takes a lot of paper work and is not financially viable for someone who holds MSFT shares worth $1000 to go through all these formalities. Now comes the next question. How can you be sure that BMGF used 100% of the funds for charity? A large part of the revenue earned after selling the shares were used for paying salaries and organizing conferences. Politicians or their cronies received indirect bribes in the form of salary or speaking fee. I don't have an issue if Bill Gates want to donate all his money to charity. But he should pay his taxes first before doing it. I don't care how the money was spent. Someone earning $3,000 per month has to pay his taxes honestly, and these guys who earn billions every year refuse to pay taxes. That is not fair.
10825  Other / Off-topic / Re: India launches Antitrust probe against Google? on: June 25, 2021, 03:20:43 AM
Don't know the details of this case, but India is not a major market for Google. Only a small part of their revenues come from India and the actual values are low due to very high tax rates. On top of that, even if Google is slapped with a financial penalty, they can appeal to the courts. And recently the courts have taken a solid stance against the government in most of the issues. In the end it will be similar to the lawsuit between the Indian government and Vodafone, which is still not resolved (after more than a decade).
10826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 25, 2021, 03:10:38 AM
The reason i expected a result is because if you look at the recent tours by India, they loose the first match and then come back and win the rest of the match and series and even though the WTC final was disrupted by weather, Indian batsman failed big time and you should give big props to New Zealand to restrict India when everyone thought the match would be a boring draw and then went out and win the match is incredible.

Some of the Indian batsmen went in to the T20 match and threw away their wickets. So actually the New Zealand bowlers didn't had to put much effort in getting them out. It was a combination of irresponsible batting from the Indians and exceptional bowling form the Kiwis.

It happens if they want to be a rock star team but do not play the necessary warm up matches to understand the climate and the pitch situation and that is what i understand with your explanation.

In the past every visiting played these warm up matches but now a days there is too much cricket played and they usually rest if they do not have a match scheduled. I think the respective boards should think about these and plan accordingly rather than blaming the players.

There was more than enough time to organize the warmup matches. They arrived in England almost a month ago. But as usual, the contingent arrived with spouses, children, girlfriends and other family members and they were busy with shopping and sight seeing.
10827  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 25, 2021, 03:00:24 AM
Multan Sultans won this years PSL tournament, they dominated the match and played as a unit with the bat and ball and this year there were many good performance from Pakistan talents and this will give them a good exposure and hopefully build a good team for their national side.

England won the second T20 against Sri Lanka and their batsman needs to perform better and give the bowlers an opportunity to perform and even with the low score Wanindu Hasaranga and both their left hand pace bowlers bowled well.

Multan deserved the trophy. Even without any heavyweights in their squad, they performed really well. Sultans bowlers such as Sohail Tanvir and
Imran Tahir are nearing the end of their career, while Blessing Muzarabani is appearing in the PSL for the first time. Even their batting lineup doesn't look that strong. And despite all this, they managed to lift the trophy. The entire team should be proud of their effort, including the coach (Andy Flower) and the captain (Mohammad Rizwan).

For England, it was just another cakewalk. Even without many of their regular players, they managed to restrict Sri Lanka to just 111/7. Actually I was surprised that they lost so many wickets while chasing this small target.
10828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Don't Want To Hear Anybody Crying When BTC Will Reach 1M Per Coin! on: June 24, 2021, 04:50:51 AM
Oh tell me the same thing as well when it was back in 2017.
I even recall when people are still like telling others not to panic sell because anytime soon the price will be around 20k by that time already. Although it failed to get past that price, I knew that a lot already panicked. Cheesy
Imagine those people that exited the market four years ago see the price now.

If you remember what happened back then, then you will know that the prices fell from $20,000 per coin to $3,000 in less than 12 months. So those who sold their coins at close to peak rates in 2017 December did the right thing (assuming that they had bought back the coins in 2018 when the prices were low). The same happened in 2015 as well, when the prices fell from $1,200 to $200. And from the $200 level, the prices again went up to $20,000 in 2017. But we can't expect the same to happen every time.
10829  Other / Off-topic / Re: John McAfee Found Dead in Spanish Cell After Extradition Announcement on: June 24, 2021, 04:30:36 AM
Although I don't like him and his passion of shilling shitcoins a lot but he somehow paved the way for celebrity involving cryptocurrency. RIP McAfee!

I can't remember John McAfee doing anything good for the cryptocurrency sector. He tarnished the image through his countless scams and was partially responsible for the 2018 altcoin rout. And I don't understand this argument that McAfee is responsible for celebrities getting involved in cryptocurrency. IMO, there is no evidence available to say so. I regard him as someone who did immense and unrepairable harm to mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency. I don't know why some people still hold him with such high regard.
10830  Economy / Economics / Re: Founders of South African Bitcoin exchange disappear after $3.6 billion 'hack' on: June 24, 2021, 04:20:13 AM
It sounds like an insider job. The excuse given by the promoters, that informing the authorities would slow down the recovery of the stolen funds sounds just ridiculous. This was just a delaying tactic, so that these criminals could move the funds to some off shore tax haven. Anyway, now the users can blame themselves. One of the golden rules of investing in cryptocurrency is "not your keys, not your coins". These people did the mistake by keeping their coins in an exchange wallet. Now all they can do is to regret.
10831  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 24, 2021, 04:10:05 AM
Also Loopholes aren't always intentional but the laws are so complex that loopholes are automatically formed. Trust me writing a law is much more difficult than you think.

Most of the loopholes that are being used by these billionaires are not present in the original tax code. They were mostly added in the 1980s and 1990s. And I am surprised with your lenient view on the $20 billion tax avoidance by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill Gates may not use the proceedings for his own personal use. But the truth is that he caused a loss of $20 billion to the US treasury. What if the other billionaires also do the same? Charity is just an excuse used by billionaires to spend money the way they want, without paying a fair share of tax.
10832  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does implementing a tax on a gambling platform really help a country? on: June 24, 2021, 03:54:42 AM
If the government is good and clean the taxes coming from gambling casinos will greatly benefit the country, but if it's not it's going to deprive its citizen, it's always good to pay taxes on governments that are not corrupt, you can be sure that many new roads, hospitals are going to be created, and they can support many livelihoods and they can pay government workers.

As long as the tax rates remain at reasonable levels, I don't have issues with taxation. But taxation always unfairly target physical casinos. Those that are operating online hardly ever pays any tax. In many cases, these casinos will be registered in off shore tax havens such as Aruba and Dominica, where the gambling industry is not taxed. So they manage to offer a low house advantage, when compared to physical casinos that need to pay a tax of up to 90% on their profits. And with each passing year, more people are opting for the online casinos.
10833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 24, 2021, 03:44:28 AM
I really didn't expect Germany to draw with Hungary. And unfortunately I made an (all in) bet for Germany. Hoping germany wins no matter what, my bet will win with a payout of 1.20. I'm so upset, really hope Germany can win.

Unfortunately luck was not on Germany's side (as a bet), I placed a bet on Hungary and got 2.00 (+2.25) odds.

Adam Szalai
& Andras Schafer almost made Hungary through for the next round, but unfortunately Leon Goretzka scored the second goal for Germany.

It was unlucky for Hungary, as they held lead for most of the time. They were ahead by 1-0 from the 11th minute, until the 66th minute when Kai Havertz equalized. Hungary scored the second goal after just 2 minutes (Andras Schafer), and held on to 2-1 lead until the end of 84th minute when Goretzka equalized again for Germany. So in short Hungary was in the lead for almost 70 minutes out of total 90 minutes. And this is despite Germany having almost 76% possession (highest for any group match so far?).
10834  Economy / Economics / Re: FBI aims to keep valuables, $86M cash confiscated in safe deposit store raid on: June 24, 2021, 03:36:27 AM
Another great example about how crypto is the way you should hold your money, and not in coinbase or anything like that neither where FBI could reach it, just put it in a safe wallet and just lock that down, that way even if you are caught they will not be able to take control of your money, think about it the comparison is that in fiat world your money is stolen by FBI even if you are not a criminal, and in crypto world you get to keep your money even if you are a criminal, that is a staggering difference. This is why I love crypto, I am not a criminal myself but I do like to keep my money away from everyone.

I do not have to worry about FBI anyway since I am not in USA and not even remotely close to rich enough to be cared (actually not even rich, unfortunately) but I still do not like it when government branches act whatever the way they want to do without worrying about consequences. This is the same FBI that did COINTELPRO and nobody cared, nothing happened.

Wealth confiscation and asset forfeiture will become more and more common in the future, because the world is moving towards a socialist style of government. Leaders with socialist leanings are getting elected in countries around the world, and they are moving ahead with their agenda of more taxes, and more handouts (greater government spending in short). The problem with this system is that the government assumes that the tax revenue will simply increase if they hike the tax rates. That seldom happens. It goes down, because tax evasion and tax avoidance increases. So in order to maintain the budget, government would resort to extreme measures such as confiscation.
10835  Economy / Economics / Re: Antivirus Pioneer John McAfee Commits Suicide on: June 24, 2021, 03:24:23 AM
Yeah Epstein killed himself too........ I don't know enough about this case.  High profile people committing suicide conveniently tends to be odd.

Some people can't just admit the fact that karma has caught up with them. Sometimes they get blinded with all the money and power, and they think that no one can touch them. Then the day of reckoning comes and these people will be caught unaware. I am glad that tens of thousands of cryptocurrency users who were conned by John McAfee and lost all of their savings got some justice finally. And further, I hope those Mt Gox users who lost their life savings in 2014 due to scams by Mark Karpelès will also be able to get justice soon.
10836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 24, 2021, 03:14:23 AM
England is cruising to a victory and they lost just two wickets and it is good to see that England is playing their full strength team rather than using the rotation system and only Ben Stokes is missing in the team and if he returns it will be one of the strongest teams for the upcoming World Cup. By the way is the locations confirmed, whether it will be conducted in India or in other country.

Didn't even noticed that the T20 series was ongoing between Sri Lanka and England, because the entire focus was on the WTC final between India and New Zealand. Although Stokes was absent from the England squad, the T20 specialists (Sam Curran, Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid) demolished the Sri Lankan batting and restricted them to 129/7. That sort of target was a cakewalk, especially on a flat track with inexperienced bowlers on the other side. Dawid Malan was the only English player who could not perform yesterday.
10837  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 24, 2021, 03:04:13 AM
Rain and bad light destroyed the excitement in first few days but finally the game was a bit exciting in last two days. I'm happy to see a winner of WTC final. There was much possibility to happen a draw but Indian batsman couldn't show their best performance today. Also, Indian bowler was unable to create much pressure on Kiwis batsman. They dropped some easy catches. Anyway, congrats to New Zealand team.

If India had managed to survive for another 10 overs or so, then they could have managed a draw. But some of their batsmen were really irresponsible. The way Pant, Ashwin and Shami got out to unwanted shots was shocking. While playing in bowler friendly conditions in the SENA nations, there is a need to show some patience. Also, you can't go after every ball, especially against world class pacers such as Boult, Southee, Jamieson and Wagner. I had high hopes for Rishabh Pant before this match. But now it looks like he can never fit himself in to the test side.
10838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are all altcoins dependent on Bitcoin? on: June 23, 2021, 04:06:21 AM
No, only those that are made from BTC fork. However, BTC price movement affects altcoins as well since all altcoins are paired with BTC. BTC price drives the market as a whole since it has the largest market capitalization.

If you check the trade volumes, even now most of the trade volume for coins such as Polkadot and Cardano is made from trade with BTC, and not from the trade with fiat or stablecoins. So irrespective of the altcoin, the dependence on Bitcoin is there. Also, you might have noticed the recent price fluctuations. When the Bitcoin prices crashed by close to 50%, every single altcoin went down by that much (or by an even higher amount). That itself shows that all these alts are heavily dependent on Bitcoin. The only exceptions are stablecoins, but no one invests in stablecoins.
10839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Many great things are banned, censored or restricted in China. If China wants to on: June 23, 2021, 03:55:22 AM
It is not that simple. Chinese manufacturers account for 95% or more of the mining equipment supply. China will have a monopoly in the mining sector as long as this situation continues. Importing mining equipment from China to some other country is hugely expensive. And this is the reason why the mining farms in other countries are just in break-even financial situation, while those in China are very profitable. I have mentioned about this several times in the past. It is one of those issues which doesn't have an immediate resolution.
10840  Economy / Economics / Re: Xi Jinping Beats Crypto, Bitcoin Mine Closes on: June 23, 2021, 03:45:19 AM
I don't understand why people feel government will allow Crypto is thrive in an environment like China where everything is being centralised and controlled from top to bottom. I will wait and see how their own Digital currency will fair in the market, not just in China but also in International market

A decentralized asset like cryptocurrency, which exists only in the digital form cannot be effectively banned. So the best thing to do for various governments is to legalize and regulate it. These sort of bans will be never effective, and in due course the users will find loopholes to get around it. The Chinese government is concerned about the cryptocurrency, because their own national currency is heavily manipulated and no one will use the Chinese Yuan, if they have a better alternative in the form of Bitcoin.
