10821  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Phishing Blockchain.info on: November 11, 2019, 06:57:00 AM
That's pretty much what is required, A dedicated thread which lists all the phishing sites and we have discussion about them in a single place. Creating a new thread for every phishing sites get the Beginners & Help section crowded . The person starting this thread will need to update the OP periodically.

Rather than a list, it should be basic information concerning phishing and scams in general, to teach the less educated how to detect scams for themselves rather than relying on a huge phishing site list that could end up being thousands and thousands in the long run, knowing that the list is simply going to be endless.
10822  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning] Phishing Blockchain.info on: November 11, 2019, 03:30:35 AM
Are we going to create separate topics for every phishing site we find now? Not saying that what you did(OP) by posting this thread was wrong, but it's getting pretty redundant. It's pretty much the same phishing scam as what the scammers have been doing since forever anyway. I think an admin should just sticky a thread about phishing links here in the Beginners & Help section so posts like this will be unnecessary as I'm sure we're going to see a lot more of this simply due to the fact that phishing sites aren't going anywhere soon.

Anyway, thumbs up for informing the noobies.
10823  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fake Coinbase Giveaway, Stay Away on: November 11, 2019, 03:26:52 AM
Meh this is a pretty common(and very very obvious) phishing scam. You can easily tell by looking at the domain itself and by the huge 0.1 BTC demand. But thumbs up for informing the noobies I guess.
10824  Economy / Exchanges / Re: DONT DEPOSIT ON HITBTC on: November 11, 2019, 03:14:45 AM
Not sure if we should point our fingers immediately on HitBTC, but this could well be a problem on your side. What security measures did you take on HitBTC? Did you at least enabled 2FA?

With that said, while I'm not saying HitBTC is a scam because I don't think I've used that exchange in the past, HitBTC sure is definitely very shady for the bad publicity it's getting.

10825  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are EU Exchanges Viable on: November 11, 2019, 03:12:26 AM
It really could be either. I have zero idea on EU laws and regulations, but there's a good chance that they're aware of an upcoming regulation concerning cryptocurrencies that could make operating their business a lot difficult. But at the same time, it could also be because of them not making enough money. See, I never used that exchange, but remember that cryptocurrency exchanges right now are highly competitive. A new exchange that's ran well and advertised well can easily eat out the userbase of an existing reputable exchange.

I don't think so.

10827  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Pera sa Internet, Tara usap tayo! on: November 10, 2019, 03:39:17 PM
Ikaw? Katulad mo rin ba ako na naghahanap o naghihikayat sa iba about kay BITCOIN?

Personally, hindi. Siguro oo, in rare cases like pag may tao o kaibigan akong nag mention ng bitcoin at nagtanong ng ano man tungkol dun.

Couple of reasons:

10828  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: CONTEST: Guess the price of Bitcoin at the end of 2019 and win $1,000 on: November 10, 2019, 02:53:29 PM
I totally understand your concern. You would probably not have such concerns if it was a big news site like Coindesk or CoinTelegraph,
which makes sense.

Micky is a smaller news site, but it is growing.

Even if it was Coindesk or Cointelegraph that did the "contest", I'd still fully suggest against it to be honest(or use a burner email if you really wanted to join). Regardless who actually does the contest, it's fairly clear what their intentions are. They're businesses, they wouldn't just randomly be giving $1,000 if they don't get anything in return; which in this case, is a potentially huge email list.
10829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: AMA (Ask Me Anything): The current state of Bitcoin in the Philippines 🇵🇭 on: November 10, 2019, 02:48:19 PM
Apologies for the late reply. I stopped monitoring this thread when it stopped gaining any responses.

There was an e-peso bill made by some Senator ... I don't know what happened to that. Also, the boxing champion Manny Pacquiao set up his own token or coin, I'm not too sure of the finer details of that. Should be on the news somewhere.
As I can see,now a days we observe the spreading of the bitcoin currency but not only the bitcoin, also the other currency that also known. As far as i know, our current senator, Manny Pacquiao is releasing his own coins tokens. But i don't think it works here in the Philippines. Also many Filipinos are still using the e wallet such as Coins and other wallet that was introduced to us.Long time ago, bitcoin has been on Philippine news. It said that it is applicable to used like this kind of cryptocurrency.
Definitely a very interesting move. But instead of creating another separate and hugely unnecessary cryptocurrency, Pac and the team should've just sticked with existing cryptocurrencies. I'm 95% sure this is just some crypto project by some random team that asked permission from Pac if they can use his name for the project.

In fairness, the Government is just neutral in regards to crypto. What I hate is people using crypto as a mean to scam other people by using the word bitcoin investment as their scheme. This makes a bad impression to people who is not really familiar to bitcoin.
Oh definitely. I always wished the government went a lot harder into finding these no-life scammers.

As for the government being neutral, I think it just isn't that big yet for them to actually acknowledge it and somewhat regulate it. My guess that in the next bull run, there will be more laws and regulations concerning bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
10830  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is diversification really a good advice for Newbies? on: November 09, 2019, 02:36:51 AM
The "diversify your investments" advice mostly came from the 2017 bull run as far as I remember, as almost everything is going up in price anyway. Obviously, that certain advice didn't work well if your diversification is with other coins/tokens rather than what it should actually be- with other assets in other industries and sectors(stocks, index funds, real estate, businesses, etc).

For some reason though, even with the very bad past results, I'm sometimes still hearing the "diversify with other coins" advice.

10/10
10831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Business ideas with 60 Bitcoin? What would you do? on: November 08, 2019, 05:10:18 PM
Why does it have to be a Crypto currency based business?

Because if start a business in real life with fiat, earning potential is less. Crypto business will give me return in crypto only and crypto price in future will further improve that return   Wink

Not necessarily. With that mindset, you could end up with the same results by using your fiat profit to buy bitcoin/cryptocurrencies, if you're really THAT bullish with cryptocurrencies. It just completely depends on the business and how you handle it, regardless if it's a business that handles fit or crypto.

With that said, it's pretty hard to answer your questions. It simply depends in soooo many factors. It's almost like the classic question of "should I get a job or start a business?". We don't know what your skills are, what country you're in, what your target demographic is, what connections you have, etc. So much factors that it's impossible to get a rough answer to your questions.
10832  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: CONTEST: Guess the price of Bitcoin at the end of 2019 and win $1,000 on: November 08, 2019, 04:42:03 PM
Looks like a bait to gain subscribers for free  Lips sealed

Definitely one hell of a way to mas collect emails from the cryptocurrency demographic. They could just simply shut down the website at the end of 2019 and they would end up with a good sized email list. Regardless if this contest is actually legit or not, I definitely suggest using burner emails. There's a good chance that the people who submitted their email addresses would be spammed with articles, or worst case scenario, the email list would actually be sold to potentially people with malicious intentions.
10833  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why say "NO" to Web wallet on: November 08, 2019, 10:53:51 AM
Quite an unpopular opinion, but I'd say using Coinbase as a hot wallet is mostly fine, currently as developers are still working on the lightning network and making it better. As far as I know, the Coinbase app is what a good number of people(in the US) use to store their bitcoin, and the off-chain Coinbase<->Coinbase instant transactions are definitely very convenient(privacy issues aside). With that said, only store funds on a hot wallet amounts that you would store on your physical pocket cash wallet(probably <$100?). Because like you have said, some centralized wallets are quite notorious for locking up funds.
10834  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How BIG will the crypto market be if China legit cryptos? on: November 08, 2019, 10:41:44 AM
their new soon to release crypto could be a threat to BTC since it may trigger a shift on Chinese market and might abandon Bitcoin and go with their own gold-backed cryptocurrency. So the effects might not be that significant enough.

I kinda doubt it. The chinese people who actually holds and knows bitcoin(probably just a minority, but yea), would know that bitcoin is far superior than their 'allegedly' gold-backed centralized cryptocurrency, that is made and is most likely just going to be used for improved mass surveillance in the first place.
10835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How BIG will the crypto market be if China legit cryptos? on: November 08, 2019, 09:05:26 AM
Legalization of crypocurrencies in China doesn't automatically mean that everyone suddenly puts their money into cryptocurrencies, so don't get your hopes up. With that said, if they really wanted cryptocurrencies, they would already grab some through exchanges like btcc.com; because though cryptocurrencies aren't declared legal in China(as far as I know), they aren't illegal either.
10836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to fake the BTC blockchain? on: November 08, 2019, 08:41:45 AM

So, the receiver's bitcoin-qt wallet syncing the 'forked blockchain' through the sender's wifi? I'm really not sure, but I don't think that's really possible (apparently, it is). But if it is indeed possible, I assume that it would be very difficult to pull off, and the sender probably needs to do some stuff to the receiver's wallet for this to work. But again, I'm not sure.

Very interesting question nonetheless. Let's wait for other replies.
10837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to fake the BTC blockchain? on: November 08, 2019, 08:24:33 AM
As far as I know, the receiver cant get tricked assuming:

  • The receiver has had his bitcoin address ready(probably pre-copied address to his notes app, or a screenshotted QR code)
  • The receiver is viewing his bitcoin address through a reputable and untampered app(Mycelium, Electrum, etc)

Not sure how a 'fake blockchain' can affect the receiver's mobile app, unless the sender asks the receiver to download a wallet of this 'fake blockchain'. And take note that the receiver can verify through block explorers if he actually received the funds in the first place.

In the top of my head, the only way the sender could tricked the receiver is probably through a double spend, or through a phishing site redirection through the wifi's DNS settings if the receiver is going to use a web wallet through a browser(and not a wallet app).

Correct me if I'm wrong of course.
10838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: See a bitcoin/crypto scam site? Don't just ignore it. Report it. on: November 08, 2019, 05:01:30 AM
Sometimes is just frustrating that after all efforts to fight against scams, inexperienced people or novice end up being victims. Scam would  always be with us, but with a good will we can help minimize it.
This is one of the most important points. People are going to get scammed, period; as scams have existed since pretty much the rise of humanity, even without the internet. It's virtually impossible to eliminate all scams, as new ones will simply appear everyday, and with possibly new tricks up their sleeves to deceive more people. All we can do is to minimize the number of people that could get scammed in the future.
10839  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I covert BTC to another to get lower withdrawal fees? on: November 08, 2019, 03:59:56 AM
Deleted my reply. Didn't notice that there were two 'BTC's on Binance's fees page. Woops. 🤦
To be fair, I also wasn't even aware of this. Googled a bit and looks like the other BTC (BEP32) is kind of a token on Binance's chain that is backed by BTC (1 BTC on their chain = 1 BTC on the real/native chain), which is why the fees are way lower.

Yeah totally. If Binance was to make such a move, I'd expect it to be all over Reddit and Twitter. This is totally foreign to me hence I didn't even double check if there were other 'BTC's. Why did they also list it as 'BTC' in the first place. They should've at least named it BBTC or something, like how we have WBTC on Ethereum.

With that said, I don't suggest anyone to even touch that Binance BTC with a 10 foot pole.
10840  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I covert BTC to another to get lower withdrawal fees? on: November 08, 2019, 03:16:05 AM
What? Binance has a fixed withdrawal fee of 0.0005 BTC. Where did you see 0.0000022 BTC?

I just logged in my account to confirm to confirm that.

Deleted my reply. Didn't notice that there were two 'BTC's on Binance's fees page. Woops. 🤦
