10861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NSA Hacked - Bad publicity for Bitcoin on: August 22, 2016, 03:21:48 PM
4. NSA hack the hackers, destroy evidence.
Don't overestimate the NSA/underestimate the hackers.

6. NSA say meh, hackers don't disclose a bit, everyone forgets.
That's usually what happens in these events. The media spins something else that goes viral and makes the average Joe forget about it. Remember Panama Papers? Barely anyone is talking about those (at least from what I can gather).

NSA won't do anything, they let the hackers spread whatever files and information they got for all they care.
You're overestimating their power.

NSA is a big company and can protect themselves and may divert the information given after all they've been doing it since time.
This statement is very irrational. There is no system that isn't hackable.

hahaha thats funny, though it is a bad that such stuff is actually happening, it is really not good for the image of the bitcoins to be honest
Nonsense. The same would apply for every other currency, especially dollar which is used for most illicit actions.
10862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 0.13.0 Binary Safety Warning on: August 22, 2016, 03:13:22 PM
Then the information isn't there. There should at least be an explanation on why the information isn't being disclosed in case it's something private. Sorry being so critical about this, but this is what I think.
I forgot to answer this post. This doesn't mean that they don't have a reasoning behind the warning, it just means that they don't want to disclose it with the public.

I guess I'll have to start hanging around on IRC.
It can end up being useful for you.

This really needs more visibility as 0.13.0 has been tagged. Verify your downloads or optimally build from source yourself!

Could you give me a link to either the manufacturers website or the thread in which these coins were released? I don't know anything about them aside from seeing one on auction not long ago (I think).

Edit:
Just clicked some more threads, and I know what is happening!
It is caused by "SatoshiGames" AD, it is too wide, so the scroll bar shows up. Sad
Can you fix this?
You are saying that this only happens on pages on which the SatoshiGames AD is being shown (as in, it is fine with all other ADs and on pages where their AD is not shown)? I'm not sure whether this breaks the auction rules for ADs because your width is lower than the one specified:
Quote
Ads must appear 3 or fewer lines tall in my browser (Firefox, 900px wide)
In any case, I've sent a message to theymos.

10867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should BTC Opinions be valued based on your BTC wallet size? on: August 22, 2016, 07:56:49 AM
The bitcoin is not a PoS coin, so the opinion is not valuated by the wallet size. But it is valued by the PoW mining hash.
No, that's not right either. What you're talking about is still a person who has a lot of money, but just chose to invest it into the mining ecosystem. That does not in any way mean that they're good with the technicalities.

I see a lot of lies.  your "friend" that was gifted 100 BTC..  ha ha ha yeah right.
Actually, you could have probably gotten more than that from faucets back in the day due to the low fiat value of Bitcoin.
10868  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Destroying Bitcoin is NOT Acceptable on: August 22, 2016, 07:54:48 AM
Well i understand that burn some coins will affect bitcoin in the end, but i consider it a waste, people loose bitcoins all days, being with scam projects, loosing the keys of the wallets, forgeting their passwords, and much more reasons.
The statement found in this post is entirely irrelevant to proof-of-burn. People losing coins != people burning coins.

Soo even reducing the suplly, making bitcoin be more healty, makes no sense with that money could be donated to save childs, soo this is something i dont agree at all.
Yet another person who jumps on the "donations by low/middle class will save the world" train, and who posts without even looking at the Wikipedia page.

Damn. This has got to be the biggest pile of stuff on sale at once?

I bid 1BTC
It's definitely worth it, but I moving this around is going to take time. I wonder what the total shipping weight of all of this is? Are you based in the US?

I would love to make a bid, but unfortunately there are a number of coins that do not interest me, or I already own!
All I see is excuses and short pockets.

-snipped nonsense
Franky, you're the one making mistakes.

There is no such thing as a Satoshi at the code level either, the balance attributable to a given public key is an unsigned 64-bit integer. Your favourite Bitcoin ideologue Mike Hearn was the first to suggest what Lauda is referring to.
He has no idea what he's talking about as usual. I had to un-ignore them to see what they actually wrote. I loved that part how introducing smaller denominations would increase the supply. Cheesy

It would be much better to donate the coins or distribute them in another way, burning them doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
It does make sense, and people are free to do with their coins as they please anyways. Read the motivation on the wiki link or do some research.

Origin site is unreachable, so I can't read the article.
The website works.

How many Bitcoin are these people supposed to have destroyed?
I don't think someone keeps track of all eater addresses though. You could take a look around at some of the known ones.

What is their purpose?
Click the link or use your search engine before asking redundant questions.
10873  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I need your Opinion on this guys! Please help. Best BTC WALLET for you. on: August 21, 2016, 07:45:34 PM
I also think that blockchain is the best. It has new feature where the address will be changed automatically after the address receives fund. It's one way to hide our transaction that will make hacker don't know how much transaction our wallet has done, so they think we have a little btc only, but probably we have more.
That feature does little to prevent a "hacker" from knowing whether you have more Bitcoin or not.

The 3rd parties are always has become the worst place for you to saving your money. anytime they can do anything in your account with various reason and freeze your account with a disguised reason for that.
Usually you can't do anything about it, that's where the general rule regarding private keys and Bitcoin has come. If you don't own the private keys to the address, you don't own the Bitcoin.

Go with some combo of bitcoin-qt
Bitcoin-qt is an outdated version of Bitcoin Core.

No putting all eggs in any one basket.
You're one of the few people that actually posted something that is not worthless. Good job.

I see that the majority people on this thread has also voted for Blockchain.
Follow the herd mentality? That will get you far in life. Blockchain.info is a horrible choice for a wallet.
10874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin" is the hottest topic for me.. on: August 21, 2016, 06:45:17 PM
Don't you guys think "Bitcoin" is the hottest topic on the web?
No. It is far from it. Questions like these are generally ridiculous, and what you're going to receive is random responses in the lines of:
"It isn't for me..."
"It is for me.."

Responses that are generally useless. You can actually follow Bitcoin on Google Trends to see where it ranks up, but it is surely far from the "hottest topic". Usually people either have not heard about it, or have heard about it but don't understand it (or wrongly understand it), or are too ignorant enough to care.
10875  Other / Meta / Re: Redundant answers to threads on: August 21, 2016, 03:32:31 PM
If  a thread gets too big, then I assume it's full of sig spammers, so I just ignore it.
While that isn't a general rules, in most cases that is what caused the huge amount of responses.

I also reported spammy posts before, I just don't know if they got a permanent ban.
It depends on how you report it and whether they're really a spammer. If you report it in the lines of "Spam post - This user should be looked into", then they will surely be 'investigated'.

The best solution is if you just ignore the user by clicking on the on ignore on the left side under his nickname so you will not see any of his posts anymore
How does ignoring the majority of the content help anything? This just tackles the problem on an individual level, which was always present as a 'solution'.
10876  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] One Sealed Box Of Genesis Series 2 Coins (Ends August 27th) on: August 21, 2016, 02:47:50 PM
What charity auction?
You didn't read the OP fully in that case. The next one will be a charity auction I believe:

This will be the last box I am listing for now. Of the two boxes remaining after this, one will be listed for a charity auction, and one will hopefully remain sealed.

Edit:  btw lauda i do not have any unopened boxes or packs left.....somebody must be sandbagging coins.
Honestly, I would not be surprised by that either.
10877  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] One Sealed Box Of Genesis Series 2 Coins (Ends August 27th) on: August 21, 2016, 01:57:44 PM
Whomever wins this auction,

I would be happy to trade for full 7 coin set.
I'm also out, this has become ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these boxes still end up unopened even with coins missing for the <10# sets. I do wonder what price the charity auction is going to reach though (I won't be participating in that one either).

10879  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Destroying Bitcoin is NOT Acceptable on: August 21, 2016, 12:45:15 PM
What's the meaning of throwing away coins (not even in someone's pocket but in to the unknown area). Coins are for created for spending and since it has limited supply it becomes more important to safely store available coins.
The reasoning behind proof-of-burn can be found in the link that you've provided. Have you even completely read it?

Let's consider most optimistic picture.  Almost 50% of earth population will be using bitcoins in next 20 years, at that time we might have just 18 million coins (assuming coins are getting lost). It's completely admissible if it's kind of accident (or say hack) but intentionally reducing the supply is against fundamentals of his concept in my opinion.
Bitcoin is divisible, so it won't matter. Examples of units:
Quote
1 BTC = 1,000 mBTC (millibitcoin)
1 BTC = 1,000,000 μBTC (microbitcoin)
1 BTC = 100,000,000 Satoshis
We are talking about 18 Million (your number) times 100 Million. If that ends up not being enough, the developers could introduce an even smaller unit than a Satoshi.

Long story short : If you have 1 of the 2 rarest antique pieces in the world, to increase the value of your antique piece you are not supposed to destroy another antique piece.
False analogy.
10880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Destroying Bitcoin is NOT Acceptable on: August 21, 2016, 12:02:06 PM
There's nothing wrong with proof of burn. What are you talking about? You haven't given any reasoning behind your opinion.

It's too much worst for the long term. What do you think?
No, it is not. Generally, it reduces the total supply that is available which can be seen as a positive thing for those who put importance on the price of a singular Bitcoin in fiat equivalent.
