Margin is inherently risky, I was not aware they had such a feature on their site.  Kinda useful and dangerous because of how wild coin markets can be, careful Shocked
10882  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: February 28, 2016, 08:02:09 PM
the clients will get ZERO Smiley

Hope not ! Sad

So the biggest creditor of mtgox is just its depositors.  I presumed they would dissolve any proceeds to taxes or some other large entity over any indivuals, usually thats how debt goes
10883  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How Cryptsy can save itself on: February 28, 2016, 07:56:56 PM
The only way I can think of is that they absorb their debt and build a new company. This will definitely makes them instantly trust worthy but of course, it's a very risky move.

I think the irony is an entirely new entity will be less trusted and familar to customers.    Alot of people here may swear off ever trusting this place but many are just going there to cash in their chips, no big sums just passing through as a convenience and they'll go back.   Its worth them just resurrecting the crytpsy brand, it will just involve risk for those do put into starting it back up; most customers are small time and hassle of finding something better is a bigger obstacle

Gents! Is there a fresh(ish) ENRG blockchain available for download somewhere?

Check this:

Energycoin bootstrap server:
https://copy.com/wVg3JYE147rDfy2M

EnergyCoin.Conf

Code:
addnode=104.131.5.234
addnode= 73.7.107.243

addnode=54.213.236.81
addnode= 213.46.197.237

rpcpassword=pass9

Also add Energycoin.conf in EnergyCoin folder

I did that, the download is useful and I set the .conf file for nodes but it's still out of sync.     Would any of these switches be useful in helping me, Im not sure its making any progress doing anything

10885  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: February 28, 2016, 02:11:03 PM
I mined ethereum 1 months back with gtx 970. Accidentally my card becomes faulty and I had to stop all mining things. Last day I bought a 2nd hand 7950 (only 1 Tongue) and am mining with it. Although 7950 is cheaper, regarding mining ethereum, it performs almost same even better than gtx 970. My AMD 7950 is Dual X and it is super silent. I had no idea about AMD before as I am Nvidia fanboy, really appreciate the performance.

I think its still true that AMD has the upper hand on performance for mining over nvidia vs electric and general cost.   Its down to the different card architecture fitting the cryptographic work better apparently.   Right now I'd prefer nvidia as they seem easier to use across multiple platforms and on linux, its kinda a partner with valve which makes things alot easier but I get the impression they do things alot more proprietary closed in house devices where as AMD builds open adaptable standards and power
10886  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: February 27, 2016, 12:50:16 PM
Martin Armstrong's predictions coming true. It really looks like 2017 for serious global economic collapse, except the USA which will grow strong and US dollar will grow stronger:

I wouldnt describe as a collapse until the engine and main momentum of the failure actually comes to a stop.  Collapse would seem to suggest an ending to the move and a negative settlement.   What we have now is wild swings up and down, the motivator in this being Dollar; global growth being apparent if not stable.  If Armstrong says Dollar will just get stronger then we are no longer discussing collapse but speculating on the amplitude of the waves created by USA gov policy both domestic and their monetary effect on world commerce via the reserve currency.

When Dollar ends you have your collapse, either its default or a kind of melt down that leaves it no longer able to negatively effect.  We have then a final collapse, rebuilding or whatever can occur at that point

10887  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?! on: February 27, 2016, 12:44:06 PM
BTC will die when drug stores collapse, not before.

Gambling is a way bigger deal for bitcoin I think because of all the tax issues and bitcoin adds simplicity and instant payment.   When is gambling going away, never.   Bitcoin is playing dead like a dog playing a trick, people want to play the market and create waves of selling from weak holders.   The only thing really is bitcoin core stability, even various websites failing is not a fault of the protocol and the other factor is competition both conventional and other block chain ideas and to me thats the most feasible - that someone invents a successor

Bitcoin aint dead but theres a natural cycle to everything so who knows when a replacement is no longer the false start we seen so often
10888  Economy / Speculation / Re: July 20, 2016, the block halving date, what will the price be? on: February 27, 2016, 12:32:27 PM
It might kickstart a rise or speculative rise but immediately I dont think it will do anything.  More likely in 2017 will write a thread along the lines of well that had no effect and when nobody is watching especially the price will rise due to limited supply.   The most lasting rises are gradual and spread over a large section of users not just a fast pyramid build that fails when they all dump
10889  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How Cryptsy can save itself on: February 27, 2016, 04:01:03 AM
Was it Poloniex that setup an IOU section when they lost some funds, I forget who but they managed to pull it off.  I think they basically were immediately honest about what happened, its possible it was not as bad a loss in that case as their own systems shut it down mid theft.  Apologies for my bad memory if it was somewhere else
10890  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How Cryptsy can save itself on: February 26, 2016, 03:18:31 PM
Step 1: "Phantom BTC" credits
Create a new, fake currency called "Phantom BTC", which cannot be deposited nor withdrawn.  Credit all users with Phantom BTC equivalent to their current outstanding BTC holdings and set BTC holdings to 0.  Future BTC deposits will be credited as BTC.

Step 2: BTC to Phantom BTC exchange
Create a new trading pair between BTC and Phantom BTC.  Collect a Phantom BTC commission on every trade.  This means that on every trade the amount of Phantom BTC in existence will decrease.

Step 3: Phantom BTC buyback
Use profits from other trading pairs to buy back Phantom BTC, further accelerating the rate at which it disappears.  If the stolen funds are recovered, all of the Phantom BTC can immediately be bought back.  Eventually there will be no more Phantom BTC and Cryptsy can close that trading pair.

Having a BTC to Phantom BTC exchange will allow pessimistic bagholders to withdraw their BTC at a loss, while allowing opportunistic traders to essentially buy Cryptsy's debt, with the possibility of significant returns when Cryptsy finally gets everything back on track.  Patient/optimistic bagholders can simply wait until a favorable exchange rate or until the buyback.

Sounds like you work in investment banking and yes it would work.  Its a fractional debt system enabling profitable business to continue, so long as the debt financing costs less then the profit the conclusion is repayment and continuation of the previous business.

Its unfortunate we cant manage to do that overall, there is no super whale to step in and restore confidence in trading for this site apparently.    Alot of assets a business has is the intangible kudos and memory of regular trade from so many people.    In the real world its very often a failing or even corrupt system is restored via a transformative takeover, it is risky but the costs of buying such a ruined asset is low and so long as trading does resume and confidence builds it should repay.
  The debt system like said would be an appreciative asset - unlike a pyramid system this is the correct use of mutual benefit and compound gain for investors and positive for those much smaller traders who utilised the site to bridge the gap across multiple small alt coin chains.   A famous example, Warren Buffet 'rescuing' a failing bank. He profited, society gained and backers of the deal also did well
http://kb.trisugar.com/node/12550

   I think its feasible but all these bitcoin fatcats mostly have the idea to just sit there and wait for the price to rise; no economy works like that.   Either collectively useful work is done and bitcoin and other coins describe and enable those transactions or the whole deal is waste of time like a lottery and only the thieves and con artists gain.  Security, debt recovery, junk bonds like this is all normal; failure is normal and work to recover is normal.  Big government bailouts are abnormal, any normal capitalist society must deal with its own trash through loss to profit
10891  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: February 26, 2016, 03:04:09 PM
Religion isnt about force, its on a different tangent of belief.  Apparently its a common flaw of humanity that we do believe in something greater then ourselves.   Athiest continue with this but look for more logical requirements via science maybe or some go to more exotic religions or worship mother earth and take up protecting the earth as their greater good as there is no doubt that natural system far outweighs any individual where as a 'virtual god' requires pure belief by most peoples reasoning.
   Im not sure its about IQ, I'd say its choice and preference about which does most good for society but also the indivual who requires this component in their life for some kind of balance. Mindless anarchists dedicated to nothing above themselves are surprisingly rare, I'd say hedonists are more probable
10892  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: February 26, 2016, 02:54:56 PM
That is two years, of being seriously underwater, so much so that I have no doubt at all that the OP has already sold most of his Bitcoins for way way less than Bitcoin is currently prices. Always happens.

By putting his faith in Bitcoin, the OP has blown a small fortune.

He isnt under water, there is no requirement to hold his breath and it seems the OP has no pressure to act on a price change in bitcoin.   If this is true it does mean its very possible he just simply holds and nothing else.
I get the impression he is wealthy or  in a good job that he decided to do this on the basis that only millions would make a real difference to his circumstances.  Just selling because a price moves ignores every other factor, its the viewpoint of a pure speculator which Im guessing is not the case here
10893  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin New wallet v1.5 mandatory update before 23th March on: February 25, 2016, 11:26:26 PM
Look for a wallet.dat on your whole disk
I should have known that lol Cheesy

Does this look hopeful ?  I swapped in a .dat but I have tons of them all unlabelled basically.   Now I think my wallet is really old, I can just swap in modern version update that and run it for a week ? and it'll look at the same directory for the wallet right

Maybe you run on an other PC and did you made a backup from your wallet?
Yea energy always ran on a laptop, I forget why it discontinued use but the laptop went through the wars and I would guess I had the sense to save the right files but not 100% sure
10894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ENRG]Energycoin PoE (Prove of Environment) Green Cryptocurrency on: February 23, 2016, 11:49:25 AM
I loaded the energycoin-qt.exe from 2014 (1.1.2) which I saved from when I last used that machine because I got a message saying I still hold some.    The address given on the wallet startup is eCCHCWiK1PdQbiqRVRoT93ynQE3TMGXb8w

which doesnt match the one my name is registered with apparently.  I would guess the wallet specific data is not stored with the program I saved.  If Im trawling through files for that data file, whats the name I should be looking for

I guess it was in the registry but that windows is long gone.  Other files were libwinpthread-1.dll  and energycoin.conf which is 5 lines of text
10895  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: February 23, 2016, 11:28:54 AM
Has he been tried for hiring a hitman yet, I think his sentence is for running a website not anything to do with a murder attempt or threat.   That doesnt usually result in life without parole in any case, he was sentenced by politically motivated opponents wont be the last time
10896  Economy / Economics / Re: Today & Tonight, Gold is Getting KILLED on: February 20, 2016, 12:06:29 PM
Hmmm, I don't know if I should go ahead and invest or if it's going to fall any farther.
Any ideas?
Gold does not change value, gold does not change at all.  It does not rust, it doesnt react with air water most acids, cant rot.  Even if melted it can be put back together just the same, this is its worth.   When the price changes it is the dollar which are moving not the gold because that bit of metal has done nothing from one day to the next where as the change in dollars based in politics and its debt and trade worth is substantial.

If they put dollar rates to 20% as they have in the past briefly then gold price will fall maybe half but this is not the metal being any less useful.   The point to buying gold really is long term it will out last the dollar regime.   They cannot afford 20% rates as all the debt issued in recent years is payable in the nearer term and the government cannot pay interest on it (without reducing their other budget costs like the worlds largest army etc), I dont think USA can afford 5% rates even.
If or when inflation goes past 5% then gold will have a positive yield in comparison to money, which normally should be impossible as it does nothing and performs no business where as USA and its currency should be returning positive rates on its borrowings
10897  Economy / Economics / Re: Today & Tonight, Gold is Getting KILLED on: February 17, 2016, 04:51:40 AM
Nothing big in the grand scheme, its only a high percentage as gold fell from 1900 already but I imagine 50 will be nothing in the future when it recovers and surpasses previous highs.    The thing to watch is the bigger trend which was down even on recent rises unfortunately, takes alot of time to turn around usually
10898  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: February 17, 2016, 04:31:00 AM
so you choose bitcoin because you are in part in bitcoin. This would be different if you ask at the users gold, they would choose the gold with their own reasons, there should be a neutral person, to judge which one is better

Its a reasonable point because maybe jewellers who use gold for their design products are holding gold and its naturally an investment for them that allows them to do business but also security.   If people are in bitcoin business then they are biased to that, there is the idea of hedging with assets not exposed to your trade or income source but I think most invest in what they know and that is best
10899  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: February 11, 2016, 10:53:10 PM
Bankruptcy due to unexpected taxes or legal fees is the ideal excuse.   In this case I wonder if the legal firm was a friend of the family and perhaps a clever way to extract money, removing cash from a failing company is a jailable offence otherwise afaik

Reminds me of Lehmans which still operates and may even repay all its debts, its just it might take 30 years
10900  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why would customers use Bitcoins? on: February 11, 2016, 10:44:59 PM
Why do I have to concern myself with banks.  It is they who must provide a service to me and convince me of any need for their existance.    The dollar system we have now is centralised around the power provided by government and its domination of commerce via Federal banking but this is not capitalism as such nor is it how bitcoin hopefully works out.  So if banking were mixed with bitcoin then no they dont control it or make demands of me, the power of banks is in the service they provide to business in assurance of transactions and stablity.

If banks are lacking in their usefulness then we should see them fail as they would have in recent years, without of course the intervention of government.  This dollar system revolves on government debt but we should not see similar dynamics from bitcoin even if it should get 10 or 100x bigger.  No doubt there are problems ahead but it wont be debt based or central debasement I hope.

Nothing is free, banks or workers will have fees but it'll be more justified in a real capital system is my best guess.  If banks bring out blockchains then I expect they will control every aspect, it will be tokens or points like a supermarket might do.  I dont expect that to be a success in the same way, but who knows for sure
