Covid making players life tough in the bio bubble. 2 Australian players Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Marsh pulled out from this IPL season as they have been part of different bio secure bubble on and off for the last 1 year.

Josh Hazelwood is part of the CSK, guess now they might stick with the Chahar-Ngidi combination.

Jason Roy replacing Mitchell Marsh in SRH. This is fine back up for SRH as Jason Roy was in good form against India in T-20s.

I was expecting this.. LOL.. Hazlewood's contract is worth just $280,000. It looks like a pittance when we compare that to the contracts for other pacers such as Pat Cummins ($2,200,000) and Kyle Jamieson ($2,100,000). So he is not losing much if he pulls out of the tournament. IPL auctions surprise me sometimes. Take Mumbai Indians for example. They have Nathan Coulter-Nile who is contracted for $700,000 per year, and Adam Milne, who is priced at $480,000. But the first choice overseas pacer is Trent Boult, whose contract value is just $310,000.

^^ Additionally in case of injury similar to Shryas Iyer, its not like that he will not receive any money. Indian players are insured by the BCCI in case they get injured during any game so its not going to hurt players pocket at all.

There was a lengthy legal fight between Mitchell Starc and his insurer over the injury he suffered before IPL 2018 (the injury ruled him out of the IPL for that year). The insurer argued that the injury was gradual, and occurred over a course of period that was not covered in the insurance policy. Eventually both the sides reached an agreement and an undisclosed payment was made by the insurer to Starc. But the legal fight lasted for almost two years.

Don't go for ETH and LTC. For both of them the future potential is not very bright. You can go for more promising coins such as Cardano (ADA), Binance Coin (BNB) and Polkadot (DOT). Ethereum is facing a lot of issues lately, related to transaction fees. And Litecoin exchange rates (against Bitcoin) have been going down for quite some time now. BTW, it won't be a bad idea to allocate 80% of the funds to Bitcoin and the rest to altcoins.
10924  Economy / Speculation / Re: Paypal allows crypto payment for all 29mil merchants on: March 31, 2021, 04:24:18 AM
Paypal had announced last year that they will provide full functionality to Bitcoin users by mid-2021. Now they have enabled payments with Bitcoin, but the option to withdraw your coins to non-PayPal wallets is not yet available. I guess they will add that as well, in the next few months. It would be great to have an option for direct payment with BTC as well, but I guess most of the merchants would not favor it.
10925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 31, 2021, 04:12:17 AM
He's right, their first choice would be Gaikwad-Faf combination. Gaikwad was pretty good buy for them last year and he also scored fair amount of runs with the average of 50 plus. Guess they bought Moeen Ali recently at very high price so i think he would get first chance over anyone else.

Moeen Ali is a good spinner, but he's not performing with the bat for some time. And I really don't know how effective will be his off-spin in the IPL. The Indian batsmen are very comfortable against the off-spinners and the pitches are likely to be very flat. IMO, Tahir would be a better option as a spinner, but his batting skills are not very good. Also I hope they will include at least one among Hazlewood/Viljoen/Ngidi to strengthen their pace bowling attack.

Inb4 in the Philippines the government is so incompetent even after taking a loan worth $400 million to specifically use for vaccine purchase, they still managed to let greed and corruption take over and had every private company/entity who will buy COVID vaccines to forcibly give half of what they purchased to the government, imagine that lmao. Not to mention the fact that they chose Sinovac with 50% efficacy and a huge markup price over cheaper and more effective alternatives all to lick Xi Jinping's bootsoles.

Availability also needs to be take in to account. I guess Philippines was quite late to enter in to agreements with the vaccine manufacturers. All the "Western" vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Johnson & Johnson) are facing supply issues right now and whatever available supplies are there get gobbled up by the richer nations. That leaves just two options - Chinese vaccines (Sinovac Biotech with 50% efficacy, CanSino Biologics with 66% efficacy, and Sinopharm with 79% efficacy), or the Russian vaccine (Sputnik V with 92% efficacy). I guess the government went with the sole available choice, and it turned out to be Sinovac.

There seems to be a slight advantage for West Indies right now. Sri Lanka has lost 3 of the most important batsmen and they are still trailing by more than 200 runs. The partnership between Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva has added 59 runs. If they could do what Kraigg Brathwaite and Rahkeem Cornwall did during the first innings of West Indies, then Sri Lanka has a chance to stay competitive in this match. Else it is going to go West Indies' way.
10928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 31, 2021, 03:42:17 AM
It was good to see Bangladesh show some fight in this match however it still wasn't enough to get the win. I thought they bowled well early on to keep New Zealand batsman from making runs but they couldn't stop the partnership of Phillips and Mitchell which helped New Zealand reach a decent total. Bangladesh did fight back strong after losing the first early wicket but after the big partnership from the second wicket stand they basically couldn't put big enough partnerships together to win the match. At least they showed some fight which they can take into the third and final match.

This was perhaps the best performance by Bangladesh so far in the tour. Their bowlers still conceded runs at a rate of almost 10 per over, but when they came out to bat they gave some issues to the New Zealand bowlers. Soumya Sarkar batted exceptionally well for his 51, although I thought that he had the responsibility to stay there and guide the team to a victory. But once he got out, the Bangladesh chase just folded up. So only one match remains in the tour now, and I just hope Bangladesh will be able to win that one.
10929  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network on: March 31, 2021, 03:32:07 AM
I am surprised that this news didn't resulted in a larger spike in exchange rates. There was a small rally, but that amounted to only around 3%. I thought with such a ground breaking news, the exchange rate could at least rally some 10% to 20%. Perhaps the Bitcoin puritans are still not happy with the fact that PayPal is converting Bitcoin to fiat currency before the payment. For me, that doesn't matter much. Someone needs to do the conversion. If PayPal is not doing it, then the merchants will be forced to spend their time and effort to convert their BTC revenues.
10930  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Prices Are Soaring Faster Than Inflation and Incomes on: March 31, 2021, 03:22:07 AM
At first I thought that it may have an impact on food and commodity prices. But the blockade was removed today and the ship which was blocking the canal was successfully refloated. More than 300 ships were on queue as a result of this blockade, and the cargo may have included food items. Fortunately the issue was resolved in quick time, before it could cause huge amount of damage to the global economy.
I think we have to consider the fact that some of those items, if there was food of course, could go bad if they wait for too long. This is why there needs to be some sort of lessons about this. I get that it is already a very difficult situation and a canal is not something easy to do, but maybe bigger, or maybe a double could solve this in the future. I am not saying it should be done or even could be done because I do not know these type of things to be honest, but I think this is obviously not working if just one problem caused so much.

However people need to realize even if 300 ships were waiting and some food in them go bad, that doesn't mean that we should have a worldwide price increase considering that wasn't the only food, or even majority of the food, maybe except few nations. However food prices increasing everywhere, it is getting harder. One main problem is that new generations are not becoming farmers, they prefer other jobs, and that is a big reason to not have cheap food anymore.

The economic damage from the blockage could be as high as $100 billion (as per the BBC). Almost one-eighth of the global trade passes through the Suez canal, and it contributes 2% to the GDP of Egypt. Taking the alternate route (around the Cape of Good Hope) adds some 9 to 10 days to the journey time of cargo ships. All that said, I don't think that food that was transporting inside the ships might have gone bad. Most of the food items were wheat, barley.etc, which are having good shelf-life.
10931  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 31, 2021, 03:12:13 AM
It was a disappointing day for me yesterday, after losing almost all my bets. Turkey was in such terrific form and yet they couldn't win their match against Latvia. Placed a bet in favor of Russia, and they lost as well. Another match in which I placed a bet was Montenegro vs Norway (in favor of the former, which obviously I lost again). Lost so much money yesterday and therefore don't have the courage to place bets for any of today's matches.
10932  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Considering huge transaction fees, what coins to support on new gambling site? on: March 31, 2021, 03:02:13 AM
The most popular choice for making payments in various gambling sites are - Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and USDT (perhaps in the decreasing order). A few of the sites also accept coins such as DOGE and ETC. I am surprised because very few of the gambling sites currently accept two of the most popular altcoins - Polkadot and Cardano. And Cardano is not a recent innovation. It is a few years old. I don't know the reason for low acceptance of ADA and DOT, despite the low fee levels.
10933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I quit smoking and buy Bitcoin every week on: March 30, 2021, 04:44:37 AM
How cool you are. Not many people are brave to take this decision. Many of us feel that smoking is about everything and it is very very difficult to quit smoking. And this is absolutely great decision to stop smoking and use the money for investment in BItcoin. I think you will be very successful if you can really maintain this.

Smoking is bad for health and also for finances, but we still can't quit smoking. sometimes, I am laughing for myself, but really hard to stop and always search for many justifications about this. Grin Grin

It would have been much more cooler if the Eucalyptus guy (OP) was kind enough to give some recent updates on this. The last time he posted on Bitcointalk was almost two months back, and for the last three months, he hasn't updated this thread. It looks to me that he has gone back to his smoking habit (which is not surprising, 90% of those who attempt to stop smoking are unable to do that), and has stopped the weekly investment strategy in Bitcoin.
10934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's gonna buy Tesla using Bitcoin? on: March 30, 2021, 04:32:00 AM
Buying the tri-motor Tesla Cybertruck when it launches with DOGE, Elon loves it  Grin

That is never going to happen. Elon is not stupid enough to take DOGE seriously. He has made a few satirical tweets about DOGE, but he understands that it is just another shitcoin with no real usage. That explains why Telsa made the investment in Bitcoin, and not with any other cryptocurrency. We are currently living in the age of third-generation cryptocurrency, and you are talking about a coin that is technologically inferior even to first-generation cryptocurrencies.
10935  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 30, 2021, 04:12:21 AM
Kraigg Brathwaite and Rahkeem Cornwall played well, to rescue West Indies from a difficult position of 222/7. I don't know why Cornwall doesn't bat higher up. At no.9 position, his skills are just getting wasted. It is going to be another even sided match. Sri Lanka could have bowled out West Indies for under 250, to gain an advantage. But they were unable to do so. And it doesn't look as if West Indies will be able to make a total of >350. So as of now, there is no advantage for anyone in this match.
10936  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 30, 2021, 04:02:09 AM
If i remember correctly that is shared here, the suspension of Shakib Al Hasan stemmed from a dispute with the Bangladesh cricket board when they were revolting or something and they took the opportunity of some bookie approaching him as a code of conduct breach as per the ICC and it is sad to hear that the issues are still there as he is one of the best all rounders in world cricket and his presence makes one hell of a difference for their team as well and if the cricket board still pushed him he might even retire from international cricket and focus on franchise cricket and he is a sort after player for different teams.

From what I have heard, issues between Shakib and the Bangladesh Cricket Board has existed for a long time, even before the incident involving the bookie. Also, Shakib was given a disproportionately harsh punishment by the BCB for him not reporting the approaching of bookie on time. It was just a procedural delay, but the cricket board handed him a one year suspension for that. I don't know why the board hates him so much, as he is one of the best players Bangladesh has ever produced.
10937  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-22 yahoo! - 'Bitcoin Winter' Could Last For Years After Price Hits $300k on: March 30, 2021, 03:51:36 AM
The mainstream media is really funny. I don't know why they concentrate so much on the "Bitcoin Winter" part, when the statement also claims that the exchange rates are going to increase 5-fold to $300,000 per coin in the near future. From what I have seen, the media is getting more and more negative about cryptocurrency nowadays. They always concentrate on the negative part, while ignoring the positives.
10938  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 30, 2021, 03:40:12 AM
To stop poverty, we must stop corruption first. All those countries who have highest rate of poverty have highest rate of corruption. See for instance, India, Somalia, Myanmar they have common enemy aka corruption.

Issues such as corruption, ethnic and religious violence, illiteracy.etc stems from the same root cause. Until we tackle the root cause, poverty will exist in this world. I am talking about overpopulation. The planet is currently supporting 7.5 billion humans, although it has the capability to support only a fraction of that many people. There are not enough natural resources to keep everyone wealthy and therefore poverty is increasing. The largest reduction in poverty has been noticed in countries such as China, where strict population planning policies were implemented.
10939  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 30, 2021, 03:30:51 AM
After One year of covid-19 Pandemic The world economy has never remained the same and even for some African countries like Nigeria where the cost of living has trippled and the Government of the day is not concern at all instead of making and showing a means of Remedial course to help the poor masses means of liver

I don't think that economy has remained the same. According to a recent survey by Pew Research Center, the number of poor people have almost doubled across the globe (with the largest increase being reported from South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa). And it looks as if the worse is yet to come. These two regions escaped large-scale COVID 19 related deaths until now. But recent data suggests that the situation is changing and a second wave of infections may have started in these regions.
10940  Economy / Economics / Re: The New Zealand Pension Fund announced a $ 17.5 million bitcoin (BTC) investment on: March 30, 2021, 03:20:33 AM
From my part, I would say that it would be stupidity from their part not to book the profits (at least partially). If I was the fund manager, then I would easily liquidate at least 20% to 30% of the coins at the current rate. The article mentions that many of the clients were not ready with the Bitcoin investment. Selling 30% of the coins and converting it back to fiat currency would have eliminated their concerns. BTW, I checked some of the local media in New Zealand. There seems to be a lot of hype surrounding this investment.
