10961  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 28, 2021, 03:15:27 AM
I find it hard to see a competitive match between Bangladesh and New Zealand until New Zealand give opportunity to the young players and rest the established players. It is not an easy task for top teams to defeat New Zealand in their ground and Bangladesh is not having success outside the subcontinent and if the pitch is not helping their spinners they usually struggle badly.

Another massive score was put up by New Zealand (210/3) and the chances are very low for Bangladesh. Apart from Nasum Ahmed, all the other Bangladesh bowlers went for more than 10 runs per over. The Bangladesh bowlers seems to be clueless on how to bowl in New Zealand ground conditions. Devon Conway came so close to another century, but he couldn't get it (92 not out). It was a clean sweep during the ODI series and for me it looks as if the outcome of the T20I series won't be any different.
10962  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 28, 2021, 03:05:11 AM
The ODI series decider is today and England will be looking to win the match and series as they had a disappointing tour loosing the Test series and T20 series and if they could win this match they could win one series and the trouble with India is that the England batsman are playing well against the Indian spinners and they are struggling to control the run flow.

I expect Yuzvendra Chahal will be back in the team and Washington Sundar to replace Krunal Pandya.

For England, there are two problematic spots. First one is their bowling in the depth overs (they conceded 127 runs during overs 41-50 in the second match, and a total of 115 runs during the first match). If they continue to concede 100 plus runs in the last 10 overs, then the chances of a win will remain low. The second factor is the weakness with their middle and lower order, although the inclusion of Liam Livingstone seems to have strengthened them.
10963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla now accepts Bitcoin on: March 27, 2021, 05:13:48 AM
Thought I had seen him make a tweet earlier about this. Anyway, thanks to Elon Musk for supporting Bitcoin. I don't just see a user in him, I also see an ambassador, a supporter! Bitcoin just keeps having these great wins! There's more adoption and surprise packages to come.

When Tesla announced in February that they had made a Bitcoin purchase worth $1.5 billion, it was mentioned that they will make Bitcoin available as one of the payment options for Telsa cars. Apart from that, I don't think that Elon has tweeted about accepting Bitcoin as a mode of payment. But the most important thing here is not the acceptance by Tesla. They have stated that they will keep BTC as such and will not convert it to fiat currency. That is going to be huge.
10964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the Nigeria Central bank confusing its citizens? on: March 27, 2021, 04:42:08 AM
The Nigerian Central bank quick decision to reverse the ban it placed on crypto transactions is a sign that it was very well misinformed prior to making the decision. But in terms of confusing crypto its citizens, i think the citizens no longer care much about what the government says, especially when they know that the motive behind such was just to twat progress of the masses already involved in crypto.

The same has happened here in India. The citizens no longer care about the stupid polices and laws formulated by the government. Three months ago, the government announced that they are going to ban the possession (sic) of cryptocurrency and make it a criminal offense. After that, the local Indian exchanges have reported a 200% surge in trade volumes and millions of new users registering to their platforms. People simply don't care about incompetent governments and their blackmail tactics.
10965  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 27, 2021, 04:18:10 AM
Impossible. If this is the case, then the world will become unremarkable and new, and the world will not progress. A world must have a good side and a bad side to balance it. This is a natural law and cannot be changed. ! Competition can improve people's self-motivated and can improve themselves in constant competition.

Theoretically it is not impossible. In most of the countries, we have three classes of people - rich, middle class and poor. But there are some countries where the poor doesn't exist. I am talking about countries such as Switzerland, Monaco and Singapore. These countries have smaller population, and as a result the governments are able to provide the basic necessities to the population. The same can't be said about overpopulated countries such as Bangladesh or Nigeria.
I doubt that there is a country who do not experiencing any kind of poverty. What you just said is wrong because in those countries that you mentioned are also experiencing poverty. The balance of the world will fall if all of the persons are in the state of being rich. Poverty will be forever in this world. Many people doesn't aware that poverty is inherited. Which means it can be passed down from generations to generations. The truth is we cannot wipe out the poverty because there are some people who doesn't have enough characteristics to become middle class or rich but we can lessen the poverty rate by becoming financially literate.

Poverty is being used in a relative sense. Those people who are considered as poor in Switzerland or Japan will be considered as "super-rich" if they settle down in countries such as Mali or Niger. On the other hand, many of those who are considered as upper middle class in countries such as India and Nepal would be downgraded to "poor" if they settle down in Singapore or Hong Kong. Therefore I have a feeling that rather than measuring poverty among the individuals, it will be better to talk about poverty at a country level, after studying the net wealth and average salary of the citizens.
10966  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA EURO 2021 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Qualifiers! on: March 27, 2021, 04:05:35 AM
There is still no confirmation regarding who will be hosting the Euro 2021 tournament. There was a statement from Tancredi Palmeri (sports correspondent for BeIN) that England could be the sole hosts, given the spread of COVID 19 in Europe. Then there was a statement from UEFA earlier this month, where they reiterated that their intention is to hold the tournament in 12 countries as planned originally. The COVID 19 cases are rising across Europe (with the exception of England) and as of now, it looks impossible to stage the tournament across multiple countries).
10967  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigerian Banks To Close Accounts Involved with Crypto on: March 27, 2021, 03:54:31 AM
This is shortsighted view and is popular among relatively poor countries, it is hard to tell why.
India as well is banning crypto, moreover it seems that they are banning crypto every second day.I thnik it is sad since they are losing valuable economic growth.

If the india going to ban a bitcoin or crypto. It will be blender done by the government, because bitcoin will rule the world economy. India a very huge people based economy, if you make and sell a product their. You will sold out maximum and should avoid the price reduction further.

We are talking about a country that tried to ban internet and computer (three decades ago). So it is not surprising that they are trying to ban cryptocurrency. And from what I have heard, as a first step they have blocked the IP addresses of various online wallets and cryptocurrency exchanges. These idiots don't even know that blocking IPs don't work nowadays. Anyone can access these sites using a VPN or a web proxy.
10968  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden planning first tax hike(major) since 1993 on: March 27, 2021, 03:44:28 AM
I don't know whether people will be less productive when the tax rates are increased. In other countries, tax evasion increases when something like this happen. But since the IRS is very strict in the United States, the chances of tax evasion are very small.

IRS claims they are losing 1$ for every 6$ they collect in tax evasion. Not avoidance, evasion!

Still it is 14%. In my country (India) it is estimated that the actual amount of income tax owed is more than 2 times the annual collection, meaning an evasion rate of more than 50%. And I am sure that this is the case with most of the developed nations. The tax rates are kept extremely high (43% for the top slab), and government has made gambling, crypto trading.etc as illegal. And there is a stupid loophole to make agricultural income tax free. A lot of people use this loophole to avoid paying taxes on their income from other sources (they just show it as agricultural income).
10969  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 27, 2021, 03:33:05 AM
Kohli's captaincy once again failed. He should have continued with two of his best bowlers (Prasidh Krishna and Bhuvneshwar Kumar), after they got 3 English batsmen out in quick succession. But he immediately went for the spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav, and it released all the tension that was built up. England were at 287/4 and a couple of additional wickets would have given advantage for India. But the stupid decision from Kohli to take the pacers off the attack cost India a win.
10970  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 effect on your country's economy!!! on: March 27, 2021, 03:23:25 AM
Don't worry, soon they will all get the vaccine, some countries are even donating vaccine to the poor countries so it's not really a problem. We were able to survive before the vaccine, now that it's here and the only problem is only the distribution and production, it should not be a big problem anymore.

The so called "donations" usually involve very small quantities and they are not sufficient to vaccinate even the highest priority population group. These deliveries normally include only 10,000 or 20,000 doses of the vaccine. The poorer nations are hard hit, as the developed nations have mopped up supply from most of the Western vaccine manufacturers. The only vaccines that are available to the poorer nations are Chinese brands such as Sinopharm and Sinovac.
10971  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 27, 2021, 03:13:11 AM
It looks like odds are changing for the benefit of Turkey.  Grin  I expect a really tough game in this. Norway are more powerful with Haaland and Turkey defense should watch out for him especially. And Sorloth also is a big threat. But after seeing Turkey's determination against Netherlands, I also think that Turkey could manage to beat them.

So the odds for Turkey have been changed from 3.20 to 2.85? Even at 2.85, they are under-estimating Turkey, since Norway is being given 2.43. I think many of these sportsbooks simply go with the FIFA ranking to decide the odds, rather than looking in to other factors such as recent form and unavailability of the main players. And during the Turkey vs Netherlands match also they did the same thing.
10972  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 27, 2021, 03:03:07 AM
Yeah we could see that there wasn't much interest in this match as this thread was silent for days apart from a few of us posting in here about the match. I only watched the highlights to see how both teams have been performing. Yeah there are many matches going on right now but they must make up for the lost time from 2020, I guess we just need to pick what games to watch. To be honest even the India/ England series has been one sided but the matches have been good to watch.

I disagree with the claim that the India vs England series has been one sided. Take the test series. England won the first match when no one expected them to do that. Even the T20 series was exciting and was decided on the last match. First it was 1-0 in favor of England. Then 1-1, 2-1, 2-2 and finally India managed to win the series 2-3. And now the ODI series also will be decided on the last match, as both the teams are at 1-1 right now.
10973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Silk Road Film has been released - shows what happened on this forum 2 catch on: March 26, 2021, 04:33:32 AM
So this kid who hacked into all those twitter accounts to cyphen out $173k worth in bitcoins and comprimising a massive social media platform costing them millions in a PR mess only gets 3 years in prison while Dread pirate roberts gets life?
Ahhh okay. Roll Eyes

In case of Graham Ivan Clark, I guess the punishment was just. He was 17-years old at the time of the crime and spending 3 years behind bars is going to be a harrowing experience for him. On the other hand, Ross Ulbricht got two consecutive life terms (plus another 40 years) without any chance of parole, for setting up an online market place. As icopress explained, the decision to handout such a harsh punishment was a political decision.
10974  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looks like India is perhaps serious about banning cryptocurrency on: March 26, 2021, 04:25:28 AM
There is an interesting piece of news coming from Coinbase:

https://www.coindesk.com/coinbase-announces-new-presence-in-india-even-as-potential-ban-on-crypto-looms

Coinbase has announced that it will open a branch in India (in the city of Hyderabad), despite the looming threat of a potential ban. Their decision is not surprising, because India is one of the top-most IT destinations. There are large number of qualified IT engineers and the operations are more affordable when compared to other countries. Meanwhile there is a very vocal #IndiaWantsBitcoin campaign ongoing in Twitter, but the politicians have so far ignored it.
10975  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: March 26, 2021, 04:13:15 AM
That's definitely the same case here, the progress we've made in this 5-month long lockdown is negligible. In my opinion, we're many steps backwards too. Lockdown was imposed in November, when we had approximately 1,500 cases daily, in January, some measures were eased, including the reopening of retail shops. At that point, we had around 600-800 cases daily. Shortly after, daily cases are on the rise, everything shuts down again till now.

On the one hand,  we're currently having more than 3,000 cases daily, 700 people in ICUs, with hospitals being unable to handle the situation, and on the other hand, the government is planning to ease the measures, reopen retail and restaurant/coffee shops etc. Due to lack of funds, they are trying to cut down on any benefits that are paid to both employees/employers.

I am really worried that the situation is about to get worse in Philippines and the other Asian countries. Till now, the impact of COVID 19 in Asia was very limited, with more than 90% of the deaths occurring in Europe and the Americas. But here in India, the number of new infections are just exploding. In just two weeks, the average number of daily infections have gone up by almost 300%. New strains are being discovered, that are more contagious and fatal. Everyone here is worried about the second wave.

^^^ Shreyas Iyer is neither a very senior member of the team nor he is one of Kohli's favorites. So there is no guaranteed slot for him in the playing XI. If he is fit enough to play in the IPL, then he need to do that. It can have a huge financial impact on him as well. His contract with the Delhi Capitals is worth $980,000 per year and if he is unable to play then he need to forfeit all this amount (which I really doubt he can afford).
10977  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: March 26, 2021, 03:53:13 AM
Musk says that bitcoin received as payment will not be converted to fiat, however, there are obviously limits to this. Tesla currently pays its suppliers and employees in USD, and if they are receiving BTC for their cars, and not converting the BTC to USD, they are effectively buying BTC. At one point, they will have accumulated too much BTC and will need to dispose of it somehow.

The real big news will be when Tesla is able to start paying their suppliers and/or employees in bitcoin.

Your argument is flawed. A few years back when Overstock started accepting Bitcoin as a mode of payment, they also decided the same (i.e to keep the Bitcoin as such, without converting it to fiat cash). One year later, the Overstock CEO (Patrick M. Byrne) claimed that less than 2% of the payments (by volume) are being made with Bitcoin and therefore they have no issues in holding on to BTC. I guess for Tesla the figures will be somewhere closer to this. Instead of 2%, at the most 5% of the payments may be made using BTC. But that is not going to affect them negatively, as the remaining 95% of the payments are being made through fiat currency.

That depends on the declaration of the casino if the tax is already included or not. But if the casino says that's tax free then jackpots like this are truly a wealth that you can enjoy forever.
That's what mostly cuts the fun when hear someone says about tax.

It is a little bit complex for foreign gamblers. The casino may say that the winnings are tax free, but the gamblers may be from other countries and in such countries this income may be taxable. Or worse still, gambling may be illegal in these countries and therefore in the tax return the amount needs to be reclassified as a gift or business income. The better option would be to convert it to Bitcoin and anonymously transfer it back to the home country of the gambler.

Spain draw with Greece was biggest surprise tonight. Spain played well, but referee gave questionable penalty which made score 1:1. Greece today made just 1 shot in total - feel the 2004 vibes, lol Cheesy
Ibra returned to national team with an assist and win against Georgia.
There was some interesting high scoring games with big comebacks like Hungary 3:3 Poland, Scotland 2:2 Austria (amazing goal by McGinn is worth to see), Romania 3:2 North Macedonia.
Hungary - Poland probably was the most exciting one.

Not many upsets yesterday. As you posted, the Spain vs Greece match was a surprise. I don't want to comment on the referee's decision, because I didn't watched the match on TV. I had a lot of hope regarding Iceland, but they went against Germany by a big margin (0-3). England had perhaps the largest margin of victory, as they destroyed San Marino 5-0. And finally, Italy continued with their fine form as they defeated Northern Ireland 2-0.
