1101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Why is Nicehash KYC all of a sudden on: August 13, 2023, 04:24:32 AM
Wanted to use my account after years of inactivity. But before I could do anything it asks for KYC. Why does an mining hash rate marketplace ask for KYC exactly? It’s not an exchange.

This is ridiculous. Especially giving them KYC after that hack that happened years prior. Makes me wondering where they will draw the line on all this KYC stuff.

Any other services such as Nicehash without KYC?
1102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big SEC Decision on Bitcoin ETFs: What's Your Price Prediction? on: August 12, 2023, 04:51:51 AM
Most likely the etf will be delayed. Same with all the other etf applications which are current including blackrock. The blackrock team basically stated that it will take 4-6 months for the etf to be approved but they are confident that it will be approved.

The sec will delay it and ask for more documents most likely. This will go back and forth until the sec is satisfied and then they will eventually approve it but it won’t be at least until the end of the year.
1103  Other / Archival / Re: [A Bit of History] The most generous airdrop in the crypto history on: August 12, 2023, 04:49:12 AM
Back then Bitcoin was pretty much useless so the value of the airdrop was $0. So you can’t say it’s similar to the airdrops we have today.

From what I recall Uniswap, dydx, arb all had crazy large airdrops just for testing out the platform. Some even had 5 figures worth of airdrops. This is why we got so many Sybil farmers which are trying to game the zksync and layer zero airdrops coming up.
1104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin F*cking ETF on: August 11, 2023, 04:55:25 AM
They were rejected because they were applications for the ETF and not a Bitcoin trust. Basically it’s the same thing but one has a greater chance of getting approved. And since it’s blackrock, pretty much all their etfs are approved by the SEC. So this one actually has a decent chance.

Same way how CME applied for Bitcoin futures and was approved. Same situation here and when the Bitcoin etf was approved for the derivatives on CME.

However what happened right after? A huge sell off.
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is centralized, will it still have value ? on: August 11, 2023, 04:51:50 AM
Bitcoin is more decentralized now than it was a couple of years back. Remember prior to the China ban? Most of the hash rate was from those Chinese farms. Now it’s more scattered all over the planet which is what we need.

Also Bitcoin is not like Tether or USDC which a centralized user can freeze funds. The BTC can never be frozen onchain, same with the native ETH.
1106  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum use Libbitcoin ? on: August 11, 2023, 04:39:10 AM
Thank you all for replying. I didn’t think electrum was affected since there were no threads here. However all the articles didn’t state which wallets were used by the dependency.

So thank you all for clarifying and putting my mind on ease.
1107  Bitcoin / Electrum / Does Electrum use Libbitcoin ? on: August 10, 2023, 07:26:48 PM
Hearing that there is some exploit with any software wallets which use Libbitcoin Explorer 3.x

However they are not stating which wallets are affected. Only that so far $900,000 was stolen due to some poor random number generator when generating seeds.

How do we find out if Electrum uses this dependency?

1108  Economy / Economics / Re: China enters deflation as recovery flops and demand falling on: August 10, 2023, 04:14:48 AM
Even if we get deflation in most G7 countries, prices will never go back to 2019 levels. Way too much money was printed.

We might get a few negative prints but overall the costs compared to 2019 will be in the double digits anyways. Most people don’t realize that even with a recession we aren’t going to get back to affordable goods.
1109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Adam Back's Bullish Bet on: August 10, 2023, 04:12:14 AM
I read about this earlier in the week. I assumed it was a joke because 1 million sats is $300 currently and if Bitcoin goes to $100000 then it will be $1000.

I think many here assumed it was more of like a $1M bet. So this doesn’t really show much confidence. It’s like betting $1 that Bitcoin will go to $1M next month. Either way was a fun thread to read and was very well engaged.
1110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Imagine creating something revolutionary and just leaving lol on: August 10, 2023, 04:07:46 AM
He left because it gained popularity and the general community were going to keep supporting it. If he stayed around eventually he would of slipped up and his identity might of been reveled and I don’t think it would of been a good thing.

It’s good that he remains a mystery. Add some excitement and suspense to the coin. I tell people that nobody knows who created Bitcoin and they all get curious.
1111  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hacker attacks again on: August 09, 2023, 04:38:14 AM
They really should of offered these 10% bounty’s back in the MtGox and Bitfinex days. I am pretty sure most of the hackers would of just took it. I think most of the bitfinex funds were never moved and years later they got caught anyways. No idea if the mtgox funds were ever spent. I know that one is in a top5 BTC holder address and hasn’t moved.

So with these defi hacks, it’s better for them to just take the 10%. Rather than leave the funds on the wallet for a decade and then basically get caught anyways.
1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: think before investing on: August 09, 2023, 04:33:50 AM
It’s not only Bitcoin that is risky. It’s any type of investment out there that is not considered a government bond pretty much.

Many made money by investing in crypto but many also lost money. No different for all those people who lost money in 2022-23 with the stock market when it took a large dive. For example look how low Facebook, Netflix and Tesla went and look at the price now.

Bitcoin is no different.
1113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Crypto Execs Confident SEC Will Approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs on: August 09, 2023, 04:31:00 AM
Getting conflicting info here. The first Bitcoin etf decisions is at the end of the month. However Blackrock believes it will be 4-6 months until they are approved. So most likely they are betting on the etf being delayed until the end of the year.

There was some crypto framework that was put into place today and it hints at perhaps an etf approval is likely. However it’s all a guess. This move we had earlier looked organic however and maybe someone knew something ahead of time.
1114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PYUSD a.k.a Paypal USD on: August 08, 2023, 05:25:39 AM
As much as I don’t like PayPal, I think this stablecoin of theirs will be successful. Why? Because besides USDC what other alternatives are there that people trust?

There is always tether fud. The Luna was a scam. BUSD is getting shutdown. And TUSD is very sketchy. So many will opt for PayPal’s stablecoin because they trust them more than the alternatives.
1115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discussion about ETH on: August 08, 2023, 05:23:06 AM
Why we need L2? Have you tried using ETH last year or the year before.

Right now the fees are like 15gwei so it’s cheap to transfer ETH and a erc20 transfer is maybe $1.50. Not that cheap but also not crazy.

Back then you paid like $50 for a single erc20 transfer. It was unusable. Hence why L2 were created for people who do more active transactions. Now networks like Poly charge a fraction of a penny for an transaction on there.
1116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Are new altcoins being too risky? Current market trend on: August 08, 2023, 05:20:03 AM
Well isn’t it common sense. You can invest in older and more established coins like Litecoin or dogecoin and not worry about the developer doing a rug pull of some kind. But make much less profit. Or you can invest in some new project which might be a ponzi but might 100x in a short while.

As your proof with FTX and Luna, even if it had a high market cap, it can still fail and that’s where a lot of people were caught off guard. They trusted those developers and got burned when it turned out they were scams.
1117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: lk99 superconductivity, hypothetical supercomputer and satoshis wallet on: August 08, 2023, 05:15:50 AM
This was discussed many times in the past. This technology is years away and if it finally comes then there will be an update to a more secure private key for everyone’s Bitcoin addresses.

It won’t be a risk only to Bitcoin or crypto. Your bank and almost every other website uses the same encryption pretty much, so it won’t only be a crypto related issue.

1118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can Bitcoin provide food for our table on: August 08, 2023, 12:44:19 AM
This is like asking if the US dollar can provide food on your table. It can’t you basically need to go to the store and sell your US dollar and in exchange you get some food. Bitcoin is similar however it’s more volatile and most stores do not accept it so you need to use an exchange or Bitcoin ATM to sell your Bitcoin for fiat and then use that fiat to buy whatever you want.

It won’t give you passive income. You aren’t guaranteed 5% a year like some Us bonds. It’s similar to stocks pretty much. There are no guarantees.
1119  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: exchanges with lowest fees and lowest spread on: August 07, 2023, 05:06:00 AM
Unless you are trading heavy volumes the typical rate for derivatives are 0.02/0.05% for maker and Taker. So basically try and make limit orders instead of market orders and your fees will be very low. Hard to go any lower honestly unless you are trading huge volumes.

Also make not of the spread. Some exchanges might have lower fees but spread could be wider and it won’t help. So make sure the spread is similar to Binance or Bybit when it comes to the same pair.
1120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC will hit new high, as crypto bull billionaire predict on: August 07, 2023, 04:55:26 AM
Mike Novogratz, as in the Mike Novogratz that was so bullish on Terra/Luna that he got a tattoo of it? Lol. Not saying he’s dumb or something, but he should have less popularity now after all that terra/luna fiasco.

Yeah I honestly have no idea why he would get a tattoo and especially if the Luna logo. I assumed he was mostly an OG and was interested mostly in Bitcoin itself.

Imagine how bad he feels. With an investment you can write off the loses but how do you get rid of a tattoo. If it was small it would be one thing but it’s a huge tattoo. I guess they have those laser tattoo removal services but they probably won’t get it out completely.
