1101  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 24, 2021, 02:08:18 PM
<snip> And to make things worse, this China news comes now, but the pace is still at 99.2. <snip>
For those who missed it, the news is that China has banned ALL crypto trading. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-58678907 and https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-09-24/china-deems-all-crypto-related-transactions-illegal-in-crackdown

That includes Chinese citizens using foreign exchanges.
Quote
Crypto-related transactions will be considered illicit financial activity, including services provided by off-shore exchanges, the People’s Bank of China said on its website. It added that cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Tether, are not fiat currency and cannot be circulated.

Along with that, authorities are on the hunt for illegal mining https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-09-16/china-said-to-intensify-hunt-for-cryptocurrency-miners-in-hiding

Interesting that (at least so far) the news seems to have not affected the exchange rate for BTC at all. If anything, it went up a hair vs yesterday.  Cheesy
1102  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Most important aspect in Bitcoin mining on: September 23, 2021, 11:59:57 PM
As regard to space to set up the mining farm, I already reserved a farm house vacant for quite some space with large meters of space and electricity is quite cheap in my location but I plan to go in for 100% solar before the end of 2021.
Then next on the to-do list is setting up the airflow system into and out of where the miners are located. Remember, all of the power the miners use is directly converted into heat. Output is just as much heat as conventional electric heaters set to max pulling the same amount of power 24x7x365.
1103  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: September 23, 2021, 10:07:54 PM
Hello, I am a newcomer to the tow, I bought a newpac, can you advise me what pool you are using and how to start towing.
well thank you
Well for one you of course need a Bitcoin wallet and an address from it to receive rewards.

That said, considering these are made for solo aka 'lottery' mining there are really only 2 choices for pools to solo mine at:
My personal choice would be KanoPool with its 0.9% for normal pooled mining 🐈  and Solo 0.5% fee, Kano's thread and link to the pool is here. Yes you have to register for KanoPool but that gives you access to excellent stats for tracking the miner performance. I might add that Sidehack uses KanoPool for all burn-in testing of his gear  Wink

Your other choice is -ck's solo-only pool but he charges a 2% fee if you find a block, his thread and link to pool is here. Minimal stats provided and no historical data is kept.
1104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying S19s from China (with trade assurance) on: September 23, 2021, 07:44:05 PM
i wanna ask about the Chinese hardware quality, if you bought it or have any experience with with Chinese hardware can you send any feedback about its quality and long term in use differences.
Your question should really be in its own (and new) thread...
Considering virtually all miners with the exception of Sidehack's gear and the Apollo's are Made in China makes it a rather moot point.

That said, it makes NO difference where miners (or anything else) are made. They are built to design spec's. If the designers know what they are doing and if their company will pay whatever it takes for their products to be 'Best in Class', then Quality can be Excellent regardless of the country of origin. Case in point, iPhones, high end PC's, etc.

If the designers are facing cost constraints or worse, don't really know what they are doing, then things will go down hill from there. Poster Child of the latter were the Coincraft miners from Bitmine.ch circa 2014 - despite Bitmine.ch being a Swiss company their designers were absolutely clueless about designing high power electronics. Do to terrible design their miners failed miserably because the power and thermal designs were absolute crap despite the actual hardware being made & assembled both in the EU and the US...
1105  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Boot problem whit avalon 841 on: September 23, 2021, 06:38:36 PM
You say 'suddenly stopped working' I take it they were working for a while? If so, how long?

Can you run with just 1 miner connected to the AUC?

You should still be able to access the Avalon GUI (but not see the AUC or miners)- use the Advanced interface. Can you access it?

Try a different USB cable, remember it MUST be one that can 'sync' as well as charge (some USB charger cables are charge-only and do not have the 2 data lines we need).
1106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New INNOSILICON T2T-26T BTC not working???? on: September 23, 2021, 02:47:56 PM
Hi everyone,
I purchased the INNOSILICON T2T-26T w/ PSU connected for bitcoin this past summer and now I'm setting it up but it isn't resetting when I press the reset button. I see that it is "turned on" with a little bit of green inside, but the green light isn't blinking. Could it be possible I need a 10A/220V wire?
Thanks Smiley
Is the cord very long - as in several meters long - or getting very warm/melting? If no then the cord is fine and power delivered by it should be fine. If the cord is very long it *possibly* could be causing a voltage drop and if is the case it would also be getting noticeably warm as well. If the cord is undersized then it will become *very* warm and could probably melt.

Sweet!
Surprised to see I made the list at #24  Shocked as I'm not exactly hunting down crap or wrongly located posts to report. Just diligent about reporting them when spotted...
1110  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you permanently remove "your browser is managed by your organization"? on: September 20, 2021, 02:31:25 PM
I have been using google as well but I didn't see anything like that even I don't know such thing exist until now. If you can't find the permanent solution then why not reflash your OS and install the new files downloaded from the official sites not from any torrents or extrernal sources.

That stamp, "your browser is managed by your organization", travels with a person across operating systems, computers, browsers, etc.
Very true - when you have the browser on different devices setup to sync with each other. When they sync then any device with the 'owned by' tag set will transfer the setting to the other devices.

Does the issue stop if you turn off sync and clean the system?
1111  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Where Can I Find ASICS? on: September 20, 2021, 02:16:39 PM
Before even looking for miners you have to be able to run them. They are very power hungry, LOUD and, HOT. Modern miners each draw over 3kW and all of that power is converted into heat.

So, if you want to start mining Bitcoin then here are some things to consider:
1st question is do you have cheap power costs?
2nd is can you provide the substantial airflow into/out from where the miner(s) are located to keep them cool?
3rd and last, can you run these very LOUD machines without neighbors complaining?

Only if you can answer 'yes' to all 3 of those questions should you start looking for miners.
1112  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can't mine on NH with Avalons on: September 20, 2021, 12:28:03 PM
Lincoin is wrong - from the A10's on up all have ASIC boost so that can't be the problem. My guess is that NH may be wanting to use #xnsub which I don't think the Avalon's support and rightly so - that bit of code lets the pool run whatever other subroutines they feel like without you knowing about it and as such is a security risk.
1113  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Boot problem whit avalon 841 on: September 20, 2021, 12:44:52 AM
The guide and repair documentation for the 841 is here Please post the cgminer API log here (please use the code tag, looks like #) as it usually tells what is going on.
1114  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S19 custom performance settings; alternative firmware? on: September 17, 2021, 01:19:38 PM
They take a 95TH unit, and re-tune it and it's a 110 TH unit.  But they sell it for thousands more.
...
Almost got it right but no cigar.
There is more to it than that, the faster miners are using better grade chips that can run faster and still be stable. Same thing is done by CPU makers, the various speed CPU's in any 1 family are not different versions- they are the exact same chip design that during testing are binned (graded) for speed and stability. Some can run faster than most, most are on-target and some are slower. No matter what they are all chips have design targets that state min, avg, and max performance to be considered a usable chip and the chips are graded and priced accordingly. Fact of life is that in any given production lot there are far fewer grade-A chips (best) coming off the line than there are grade-B (avg) or grade-C (usable but...)

Sure software tweaks can make a miner run faster than what the mfrs sold it as, question is, how stable is it? Same applies to OC'ing your CPU or GPU's.

Perhaps they should state they are the first successful pool or the longest running pool?
With the caveat of 'successful' meaning 'still in business' that ^^ would be absolutely correct and the best way to say it.
It acknowledges that:
 a. There were other pools before them
 b. Said other pools later shut down for one reason or another
 c. It puts Slush as one of the first pools and currently the oldest running one.
1116  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you permanently remove "your browser is managed by your organization"? on: September 17, 2021, 03:02:37 AM
Well all I can say is that I've used Chrome for many many years on several different systems and have never once had the problem. Then again I also have pretty tightly locked down systems where nothing is allowed to change settings (or update) without me (most likely) knowing about it.
1117  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you permanently remove "your browser is managed by your organization"? on: September 17, 2021, 01:08:31 AM
The gist of what that link and other links in it say is that your PC is infected with some sort of malware:
Quote
Unfortunately, malware authors use the “Managed by your organization” feature to install malicious browser extensions, set homepage and search engine, block browser settings from changes an so on. Malware that changes browser settings is called ‘browser hijacker’. Scammers use malicious software to take control of your computer’s web browser and change how and what it displays when you’re surfing the Web. Therefore, if the “Managed by your organization” entry appeared in your Chrome’s menu, then your computer is infected, and you need to find the browser hijacker as soon as possible and remove it from the computer.
It reappearing a few days after you remove keys for it pretty much confirms it. Sounds like you need to sanitize your system and check ALL other devices connected to the same network....
1118  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you permanently remove "your browser is managed by your organization"? on: September 16, 2021, 04:57:43 PM
The more important point here is:
Quote
"your browser is managed by your organization"
I take it you are using a device not owned by you and are on a network that is not owned by you? They belong to a company or organization you work for?

If that is the case then they can put whatever restrictions in place that they want to.
Only 'solution' is to use your own device that is loaded with your chosen software and only access an open network.

Thats not a problem as long as you plug in both PCIE cables from the same PSU to the back of the Apollo, and the PSU has at least 200-300 watts headroom for the Apollo.

Issue come in when you try to plug in two separate power supplies in the back of the Apollo (ie some people think if they have 100 watt headroom in one PSU, and 200 watts in another, they'll just plug in one PCIE cable from each PSU to the back of the Apollo...THIS IS THE FIRE HAZARD. Even a small imbalance in voltage will cause major current to flow between the PSUs and melt the cables/start a fire.
Emphasis mine.
Ja. One should NEVER try to run ANY sort of PSU's in parallel. Because they are independent devices they will literally fight each other. If you want to run PSU's in parallel they MUST be designed for it (master-slave modes) and wired accordingly.

You were being hateful because you are a very bad person.
And so you go on a rant trying to deride anyone who does not feel as you do?
Guess what, I view all news sources, frankly alJazeera and NHK are my favorite go-to's for news. Fox and CNN are at the bottom of my list. No matter what the source I also never take anything they present at face value.

Pointing out errors in someones logic is not censorship. It is trying to restore balance to their reasoning.

I bet you also think that cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin should not have mining algorithms that are designed to advance science because you believe that that is not its purpose.
Spot-on correct. BTC and many if not most other coins was created for 1 thing and 1 thing only. You want a variation of it to do other things you are free to make yet another public blockchain coin/token to do whatever Swiss army knife collection of functions you want.
