1101  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Privacy & Address reuse on: July 10, 2023, 06:11:24 PM
It seems like you have completed  KYC procedure on Binance which implies that  the address to which you have sent from this exchange is linked to your identity. Consequently, any transactions from this address will also be linked to you.

If I where in your position  I would use mixer and  shuffle the associated  UTXOs.

I recommend that you  read the following guide ( divided into four sections [1] , [2],[3] and[4].) to gain a deeper  understanding on   how you can maintain privacy  when making your transactions.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::   ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::  ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

[2]. Understanding Bitcoin Privacy with OXT — Part 2/4
[3]. Understanding Bitcoin Privacy with OXT — Part 3/4
[4]. Understanding Bitcoin Privacy with OXT — Part 4/4

That's great, thanks! Yes I have completed KYC. I am curious to see whether I can use the mixer to mix my UTXOs and send them to the same vault.
1102  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Privacy & Address reuse on: July 10, 2023, 05:29:28 PM
Send it to an address that you own, not an address on your privacy wallet. Use another wallet for it and name it 'centralized exchange wallet'. Send the coin from Binance to one of the addresses. Use a coinjoin for it like whirlpool, or use a mixer like Whirlwind to send it to your privacy wallet.

For whirlwind mixer. Download Tor browser and open Whirlwind site on it: http://whirlwct7ertqae6i7ivsm475kgia6v67zzxevgzkilykknrjke33cqd.onion/

That's great, but doesn't it apply only to new "coins"? I mean can I do the same with the "coins" that I already own?
1103  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Privacy & Address reuse on: July 10, 2023, 05:05:19 PM
To have privacy, first mix the coin you send from Binance using a mixer or coinjoin before sending it to your full client wallet address. Mixing it will make it easy for you.
Do not reuse address.

I don't reuse address but for the first thing you mention, how would you go about doing that from scratch?

Could I send it from Binance to another wallet and then use a mixer (like whirlpool) to send it to my multisig vault ?

Finally, since I haven't done that, what are the risks that may occur now ?

You have a (multi-sig) HD wallet and you spent the fund that you had received from binance. Am I getting you correctly?
Did you use coin control? If you didn't use coin control and you used multiple UTXOs in a single transaction, now all those coins are linked together.

Hi! No, I have sent from Binance to another wallet. Then from my other wallet into my multisig vault (not in a single transaction) but in several transactions, in order to create larger UTXOs.
1104  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Bitcoin Privacy & Address reuse on: July 10, 2023, 04:51:08 PM
Hello.

I have a multisig vault. In order to achieve the highest privacy:

1. I generate an address per incoming transaction.
2. My wallet (co-signers) has been created using airgapped devices.
3. I have imported my xpubs to my personal electrum server on my node.

But, I have sent some coins from addresses to which I had originally sent directly from Binance.

Have I lost all of my privacy because of this mistake?

Please feel free to let me know whether you  think that I exaggerate. I am not a privacy maniac. I just want to know the best practices.e
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoins on: July 09, 2023, 09:14:51 PM
I have actually created a thread a while ago.

1106  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [List] Wallet Software Discussion on: July 02, 2023, 05:24:30 PM
I don't get it: why do you link bitcoin.org as the source for Bitcoin Core, when the native site for Bitcoin Core is only https://bitcoincore.org. The Core devs have no access whatsoever to bitcoin.org which is merely a bad mirror of bitcoincore.org.

There's no iOS version of Electrum. OK, you fortunately don't mention a false link to some imposter app.

Your list seems utterly mobile device centric. At least, that's my perception, but I could be wrong.

Do you really think it is a good idea to have wallets with more than pocket money on a mobile device? Mobile devices are easily lost, are saught by thieves, are notoriously used with a lot of privacy depriving apps, ...
And because most people do a lot of their daily shit on their mobile devices, those are likely exposed to all kind of bad bugs and security flaws in mobile device's OS and apps.

I tend to agree with you but mobile wallets are useful as watch-only devices. You can monitor your wallets and generate addresses on-the-go. Apart from that, I can agree to everything you said.

1107  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: info about Ian Colman mnemonic on: July 01, 2023, 09:56:11 PM
Let's dive into JS generating seed phrase.

First, I could myself generate a seed phrase without anything. I just pick 24 words from the list given in the BIP 39 protocol.
So if Ian colman give me a list of 24 words randomly in the same list what can be wrong? It is just picking word at random.

The risk maybe is the code being change to give me a list of 24 word already known by somebody. But this is hacking not JS related.

To be exact, you would need to guess 23 words and then calculate the 24th, as it is the checksum of the 23 previous words.

Nevertheless, please don't.

On this planet, NOTHING is totally random.

In fact, scientists claim that the only thing that could be random is the age at which the center of atoms explode. (that's pure physics and it is not yet fully proven).

Our minds are absolutely not capable of defining randomness. And of course we are unable to choose 23 words from a list of 2048 in a secure random way.

If you don't want to accept that you can use a wallet such as electrum to generate the words, then you could flip a coin 256 times to generate your entropy. You can refer to this manual https://youtu.be/LxTkLwpV1Po
However, if you flip a coin 256 times, there will definitely be similarities in the manner that you flip it. So again, not totally random. I can assure you that if we had the appropriate tools to calculate all the forces that apply to the coin, we could predict the outcome. The same applies to roulette and all those "random" systems. We just don't have the tools to predict the outcome.

I may sound boring and annoying, but the summary is:  Randomness (entropy source) is the most important thing when generating a wallet. Be absolutely careful. Do it correctly once and don't worry ever again.

Ok so I guess it's a "bug" between device and software there will be some incompatibility somewhere.  If you want to try again, download SBW Simple wallet bitcoin from fdroid and try to connect the node and use the internal tor connection.

Thank you. I will and I will let you know !
1109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 30, 2023, 08:00:55 AM
There are a few things you should provide: Is Node an Umbrel-like plug and play?  Have you installed electrum server?  Are you sure you are entering the electrum server onion address and not the bitcoin core one?  Is Electrum server 100% synchronized?  Is Blue Wallet connected to the tor network?  If yes, with orbot or with the internal one?

Node is Umbrel.

Yes I have installed ElectrS and is fully synced, as well as Bitcoin Core.

Yes the onion link is the Electrum Server one and I have used it with Electrum and Orbot and it works ok, as I have mentionned above.

I have tried both the internal BW tor service and Orbot.

P.S the reason I haven't provided much info, is that I have found a solution with Electrum as someone suggested above. It works with orbot. So, I don't really care if BlueWallet works, but, it is a good exercise to make it work if I can.

Edit: thanks for the screenshot. It says "Done" too for me, but if I get out of this window to view my wallets and then go back, it says "NOTINIT" again
1110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 30, 2023, 07:49:32 AM
Try entering the port after the .onion it should be something like ajdh1283.....onion:50001 if that doesn't work enter the port in the empty field below the onion address

Nope. Unfortunately it doesn't work. "Can't connect to the provided electrum server".
1111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 30, 2023, 07:30:53 AM

Yes, I'm very sure because I always use it like this, maybe it depends on the device, I use a pixel 6a or on the installed version.  Also with Simple Bitcoin Wallet I use the internal TOR connection.  While with electrum mobile I use orbit but you have to activate the VPN and add electrum as an app in the orbit list.

I am surprised that BlueWallet works for you.

I use my tor address to connect to my electrum server. Something like this: hsbwdsadsa[...].onion

And I also set port 50001 because I don't use SSL.

But it keeps telling me that "Can't connect to the electrum server provided".

1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 30, 2023, 06:12:02 AM
Hello.

I have tried:

1. BlueWallet but it doesn't connect to electrum server through tor.
2. Nunchuk but it doesn't connect to electrum server through tor.
3. Samourai but it doesn't support watch-only multi-signature wallet, even though tor seems to be running properly.

Edit:
I have installed Orbit in order to use tor more properly, but no luck with it.

Don't use orbot to connect the network to tor because it generally doesn't work well and you have to tick that application anyway to enable it.  Instead on blue wallet use the internal connection by going to setting and then network choose tor and press start but first set the electrum server of your node.

Hello. Are you sure? I have tried to use Bluewallet with its internal tor implementation but it doesn't work. Tor starts but it loses connection all the time.
1113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Lighting network first time trying it with Electrum on: June 29, 2023, 09:04:26 AM
Well,I can send it if some casino accepts it so I can spend the money there,I don't know but most likely I have not seen this in Stake casino when I deposit they only accept standard Bitcoin payments, why so many hustles before sending and receiving money in this network, anyway I will check how it goes as it is better for me to send what I get from my Faucetpay directly to Nicehash to add to my balance faster so I can withdraw directly there without going through the lightning network,I am a guy who loves simplicity and I don't see any simplicity in the lightning network so far,at least in the beginning it is not at all user friendly but may be I am wrong as I only checked this network now.

So let's suppose I open the channel and have receiving capacity,I have this forever then or I have to keep pumping money to the channel in order to use it?

Once you have opened a channel, the channel is going to be there until you (or the other side, or both of you) decide to close it.

Let's say you have a channel with 1BTC outgoing and 1BTC incoming capacity. This means that you are NOT able to spend more than 1BTC using the lightning network and you also cannot receive more than 1BTC using the lightning network.

You can't pump money to an open channel. The channel can only send and receive BTC from the lightning network. It can never exceed the capacity limit. (If there is any development on this, as a new feature, I would be delighted to know).

The channels form a network. This means that if you want to pay someone (let's say you want to pay Alice 0.1BTC), then Alice MUST have an open channel with at least 0.1BTC incoming capacity. At the same time, if you don't have a direct channel with Alice, then your nodes must be indirectly connected somehow.

I agree that LN is not very easy and simple for new users. But let's not ignore that there is continuous development going on.

Finally, if you don't want to open your own channels and don't want to have your own node at all, let me suggest you MUUN wallet. You can send on-chain BTC there and then you can use it both ways (On-Chain and LN).
MUUN does the "dirty" job behind the scenes. I only suggest it because it is extremely simple.

If you are more interested in going deep and learning more stuff, I suggest setting up a node and connect to it using ZEUS wallet through tor. Then open a channel (let's say 0.01BTC) with a large node (check here for examples: https://1ml.com/) and then send some sats to someone, in order to gain incoming liquidity.

Finally, I suggest ACINQ node. There is no reason at all. I just like its stats!
1114  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow vs Electrum for desktop on: June 28, 2023, 04:16:13 PM
With Sparrow, on the other hand, it's a simple as adding server=1 to your bitcoin.conf and then clicking the "Bitcoin Core" button in Sparrow. I was amazed the first time I used it at just how easy it was to set up.

Yes, Sparrow can be connected to bitcoin core in 3 clicks literally. I haven't been able to connect it over tor though. I think electrum is more table over tor, at least in my experience.
1115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 28, 2023, 09:48:50 AM
-snip-
Hello, so thank you, I was able to connect to my node, even though the connection is not perfectly stable, but however it seems to work.

The other part I am missing now is the multisig part. So, you suggest I should convert my xpubs to Zpubs? Why so?
I completely missed the MultiSig part of the question.

Yes, there's an option in Android Electrum to import master public keys as cosigners.
Just follow the correct options when restoring a wallet, the options are self-explanatory: "Multi-signature wallet->Select the number of Cosigners/Signatures->Use a master key"
but like in single-sig, the extended public keys should be converted for Electrum to be able to derive the correct address type, otherwise it'll be restored as P2SH-MultiSig.

With that, if your addresses are P2SH-MultiSig, import them as is.
If not, and the addresses starts with "bc1q", you'll have to convert them into "Zpub".

Thank you. You ve been very helpful. I have managed to successfully connect to my node and monitor my wallet.
1116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 28, 2023, 06:03:35 AM
1. to connect my mobile wallet to my electrum server using my tor onion link, in order to have access from everywhere.
-snip-
Edit:
I have installed Orbit in order to use tor more properly, but no luck with it.
Orbot seems to work without issues in my test.
Check out these screenshots (connected to a randomly picked onion server):

Things that you might have missed: have you enabled Orbit's "VPN" during its setup and added Electrum to the Tor-Enabled Apps?
It's also have to establish connection first by clicking the Electrum icon (screenshot 2).

2. to be able to monitor my multi-sig wallet (watch-only mode). Therefore the wallet must have the feature to import multiple xpubs in order to view my wallet's balance and generate addresses.
In Electrum, your option is to restore separate wallet files with each xPubs.
You'll also might need to convert them first into zPub/yPub depending on the script type that you want to restore, otherwise, it'll be legacy.
Electrum (Desktop) has a built-in tool for that, use the command: convert_xkey

Hello, so thank you, I was able to connect to my node, even though the connection is not perfectly stable, but however it seems to work.

The other part I am missing now is the multisig part. So, you suggest I should convert my xpubs to Zpubs? Why so?
1117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 27, 2023, 08:38:58 PM
Have you tried Electrum wallet for mobile? Here is the guide on how to connect myNode to Electrum with onion link, but this should work with other nodes too: https://mynodebtc.github.io/tor/electrum.html

Not sure it supports multiple xpubs though: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/6016
You can also try to create a watch-only multisig wallet using this guide: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-watch-only-version-of-your-2fa-wallet/ This information is relevant for mobile version of Electrum wallet.

Unfortunately, the little icon on the upper-right corner in electrum is red, meaning that even though I have followed the instructions, it won't connect to my node.

1118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Connect mobile wallet to Full Node on: June 27, 2023, 03:28:02 PM
Hello.

I have set up my own node and I am also running an electrum server (electrs).

I need:

1. to connect my mobile wallet to my electrum server using my tor onion link, in order to have access from everywhere.
2. to be able to monitor my multi-sig wallet (watch-only mode). Therefore the wallet must have the feature to import multiple xpubs in order to view my wallet's balance and generate addresses.

Literally any wallet would do.

1119  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow vs Electrum for desktop on: June 22, 2023, 11:09:34 AM
But, the obvious question here is: what happens if I have signed a transaction with a fee of let's say 20sat/vB, but when I go to the other cosigner the fee is too low?
You can:
  • Wait
  • Create a new transaction with a higher fee
  • Broadcast it anyway and hope for the best
  • Broadcast it anyway and create a new transaction with a higher fee to replace the existing one should it not confirm in a reasonable time
  • Direct the change to a single sig wallet you control so you can use CPFP

I will save this answer on a notepad. Thanks
1120  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sparrow vs Electrum for desktop on: June 22, 2023, 11:06:30 AM
Hi! Supposing I have set a 2-of-3 multisig vault, my question actually is whether I can sign a transaction in New York, then take a hash of a partially signed transaction and then go to San Diego in order to sign with my second cosigner.
Not a hash of the transaction, but the transaction itself. But yes, you can do this.

You would simply create the transaction on the first wallet, and sign it with that wallet, before exporting the transaction (the specifics of this will depend on the wallet you are using). You can usually export it as some form of raw text, save it to a file, generate a QR code, etc. Then you can send that partially signed transaction to another destination electronically, or put it on a USB drive, SD card, your phone, etc., and carry it with you. Once you have access to the second wallet, you import it, sign it with this second wallet, and then you are ready to broadcast it.

Excellent. But, the obvious question here is: what happens if I have signed a transaction with a fee of let's say 20sat/vB, but when I go to the other cosigner the fee is too low? Should I wait? Should I initiate another transaction and sign it with a higher fee using the cosigner where I am and then travel back to the other cosigner? This question also applies to timelocked transactions, and I think the answers are obvious, but somewhat inconvenient. Don't you think?
