This is being blown out of proportion.

The only reason this happened is because Mtgox were foolish enough to lie and say they aren't a 'money transmitter' and try to operate without a license.

If they had the appropriate license this wouldn't have happened. A lesson to other exchanges in the future.

1108  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Down .... this is bad !!! on: May 15, 2013, 07:17:45 PM
This is clearly caused by a DDOS or high traffic.

If the domain or server were seized, we would not see trading still happening.

Calm yourselves, people  Grin

Stop panicking, it is still there.

I noticed this has gone too. I haven't changed any settings.
1111  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GOX down, server seizures going on right now? on: May 15, 2013, 06:44:30 PM
The server is definitely still there, I got to the log in page  Grin

Opportunist DDOS.

The only thing I can think is that you have a Time Offset in your board settings.

If you go to your profile then click 'look and layout preferences' you'll be able to see there.
1115  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 03:20:19 PM
I logged out & it showed 3.15pm forum time then back in & it now shows 4.15pm. UTC is 3.15pm, seems confusing compared to just using UTC but maybe that's just me.
That's odd.

It shows the same time for me whether I'm logged in or not.
1116  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 03:18:06 PM
Sorry, I have caused this confusion.

I am currently in BST not GMT, hence the OP not making any sense. Doh!

We will stick to what I've said below, so the auction will end in approx 6 hours 45 minutes.

Quote
The auction will end at 10:00pm UTC Wednesday 15th May 2013 (Today!)
1117  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 15, 2013, 02:59:18 PM
Amazing  Grin

Need to buy some more of these!
1118  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 02:32:53 PM
For clarification:

The auction will end at 10:00pm UTC Wednesday 15th May 2013 (Today!)

We will take forum time to be UTC and will use the timestamps of posts to determine if bids are valid.

Any valid bid from 09:51pm UTC onwards extends the finish time by 10 minutes.

1119  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 02:29:40 PM
Rules:
  • The auction will end at 11:00pm GMT (10:00pm UTC) Wednesday 13th May 2013.
  • Starting bid 3 BTC.
  • Bid increments of at least 0.1 BTC.
  • Any valid bid from 10:51pm GMT onwards extends the finish time by 10 minutes.
  • I will include free postage (signed for on delivery).
In the rules I put the bid increments at 0.1 BTC. In retrospect this is too high, but I have to keep it to avoid any possible complaints.

Unless either of you object, I will treat Otoh's bid as 3.3 BTC and mc_lovin's as 3.4 BTC.

Thanks  Smiley

Both bids were valid as being of at least 0.1 btc more than the last, but if you prefer bids to be of only 1 decimal place it doesn't bother me, did you look in to the GMT - UTC issue from your OP?
Quite right, so both are valid bids!

This is why I lost my job as a professional auctioneer  Wink

I'm in the UK and it's 15:30pm here.

According to http://time.is/UTC, UTC is 14:30pm - which is almost the same as forum time.
1120  Economy / Auctions / Re: * AUCTION - SERIES 1 Casascius coin * on: May 15, 2013, 02:27:03 PM
Recent auctions have been between 700-800, they have slowly went down from the 1000 marl. You wont get 1000 now a days.
True, they have been going for slightly less recently.

Anything close to $700-$800 would be amazing, though I'm not expecting that much.

I considered putting it on ebay, but I really can't stand them  Cheesy
