1102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So far we got Wordpress, 4chan, mega and reddit so whats next? on: February 23, 2013, 04:36:52 PM
I'm asking my team to seriously consider supporting it (this is my first post out of Newbie Jail, btw).

I'm new to Bitcoin, but have enjoyed this recent price increase (it was $17 when I found out about it). I've been talking with the great folks in #bitcoin and reading what time will allow here and on Reddit. Fascinating stuff.

We run a shopping cart software as a service (http://www.foxycart.com) who's primary focus is serving developers. The Bitcoin community seems to have a lot of developers. We're hoping, if we do support it on our platform, it could create some buzz, drive some traffic and actually get people using Bitcoins for every day commerce. We're not in the 10's of thousands of stores (yet), but we do have more than a couple thousand using our system and, according to these guys, we're #8 out of 177 this month for fastest growing ecommerce technologies: http://trends.builtwith.com/shop/growth

If we can help move the needle a little bit and get every-day merchants thinking about Bitcoin, that's a win for everyone.

So please keep an eye out for us and give us some love if we do launch Bitcoin support. Our first tiptoe in the water may involve bitpay support and who knows about the future.

Side note:
Thanks for being such an intelligent community. I like the "newbie jail" idea and I've been pleasantly impressed with the rational thought talking place here. Then again, maybe I just haven't been around long enough. Smiley

Sounds great Luke. Let us know how we can support you.
1103  Economy / Speculation / New term: Ninja resistance on: February 23, 2013, 07:09:48 AM
There was nothing in terms of a visible wall after 30, I pretty much thought we were home free

and that I would wake up this morning seeing a new alltime high.

It turns out the walls were just hiding, stealthing themselves

before launching a ninja attack to fight their way into hostile territory.

Score thus far:
Ninja resistance 1
Me: 0

Well played sirs, well played. Enjoy this moment however, because the battle for 32 is not over yet.

The "regulated sites" won't have provably fair technology.

This blows my mind. I'm quite sure this is related somehow.

So did you actually make a trade of something against "BTC molecular"?

Can you make a screenshot.

I hadn't even discovered how one could change the issuer on trade page. Seems I can "trade on bitinstant":

Yeah, sort of:

ok, so you placed an order. No inidication (afaik) that any trade happened.

still totally unclear why that would result in some automatic order generated on my side. Maybe it's just your order displayed in my notifications for reference that someone put an order regarding "my currency"?

Strange indeed, I have no clue. Maybe this stuff is all explained on the wiki, but I cant imagine they expect everyone to study that thing like the bible before they start using it.
1106  Economy / Speculation / Re: Yet another analyst :) on: February 22, 2013, 01:54:02 PM
While I appreciate another point of view, its important to balance traditional indicators (which in an immature market as significantly less reliable) with the impact of other metrics like news, adoption, etc. The latter at this point I would argue is more important than any technicals for bitcoin.

Ahhhh... finally someone took 1 minute to explain it to lucif Wink

Lucif, it's really too early to use "advanced" technical tools analysis.

I mean being stuck to it is not a good point of view. It works (i did it successfuly several time thanks to you sometimes) but I'm also listening/reading the users, adopters and OF COURSE use fundamentals.

I took that minute over 3 months ago, lol. Some people just love their:

1107  Economy / Speculation / Re: Online gambling legalized in Nevada on: February 22, 2013, 01:35:54 PM
Ok, so this apparently only applies to states without their own legislation against gambling?

Would be interested to see the numbers/ infographic on this, because it could have a large impact on the future price of bitcoin.
1108  Economy / Speculation / Re: $30 is the new $5 on: February 22, 2013, 01:34:18 PM
I don't think it will go like that. The all time high is less than 2 dollars away. It has enormous psychological effect, and it could spark a media blaze. It could get crazy sooner rather than later. We'll see I guess.

This. The google search trend will break when this happens.
1109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Online gambling legalized in Nevada on: February 22, 2013, 01:30:39 PM
Legal to play in nevada? Or legal to setup a online casino that uses dollars?
Interstate gambling is now legal. They only need to convince the others states to allow it...

Yeah, lol at the thought of other states passing that anytime soon.

What do you mean by "interstate gambling"?
Intrastate = only allowed to resident of the state where the casino is operating.
Interstate = allowed to resident of others states as well.

If thats the case, then why do other states need to legalize anything? As long as the casino is in nevada, it doesnt matter, no?
1110  Economy / Speculation / Re: We will break 32 by Friday on: February 22, 2013, 01:29:23 PM
If there are enough bears that disagree with me, I'll make a bet.

how much are you ready to bet? I'll take up to 10 BTC we wont make it for this friday 23.59.59 GMT.
Let me know if interested.

P.S.) Your acceptance must come before the price hits 30, no betting when the ball hits the number is allowed  ;-)

Gotta bump this thread earlier! Looks like you probably would win... but it will be close  Grin

this:

concerns me. I didn't enter these orders. What are the yellow entries about?

This looks to me like XRP is used as a settlement currency somehow (I thought it wouldn't play that role) and I implicitly value them as shown (which is not the case).

EDIT: however, I _did_ enter this order:

Does this somehow imply the "yellow" ones? Am confused.

I'm not sure if its related, but I set up a "trade" using your currency as the base (it was default, I only noticed it after creating the transaction). For 1 btc to 10000 XRP. Maybe it auto accepted the trade for you? Check out the trade tab under advanced to see if the offer is there for you... if so, maybe send a bug to bugs@ripple.com to tell them you didnt accept it.

Bummer.
1117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ripple: let's test it! on: February 22, 2013, 09:29:30 AM

1.) it's XRP, not RPX. XRP is just a spam-prevention-coin. As I understand it, it's not some "ripple reserve currency". Bitcoin will be that?
2.) It's considered paid even before you cash out through a gateway. Those gateways are just gateways to the old banking system and will not be needed in the long run. Ripple will replace the old banking system. (again: take with grain of salt, I'm total newb)
3.) I agree this shit is totally WTF. Much more WTF than bitcoin was to me when I first discovered it, but almost as "holy shit it could really work" as bitcoin.

Actually, XRP is the "reserve" currency as you put it. This is the way they are planning on monetizing the system. That being said, its not the "only" reserve currency - ie. its not either/or, its much more of an and situation with the other currencies (most likely bitcoin will emerge as a leading currency I imagine).

Mol, I trusted you for 1 btc and 5 usd

Here is my address: rJFGHvCtpPrftTmeNAs8bYy5xUeTaxCD5t

I just discovered your address popped up in "advanced" -> "trust" list (with 0 trust of course).

I trusted you back, but "only" with 0.5 BTC, 5 USD.

I think we should go low on the trust values for now until we all understand the implications better. There will be people trying to scam us pretty soon Wink. Not that I don't trust YOU, but I don't know exactly how these trust-lines work and who knows who YOU trust...? Thoughts?

Its all good =)

Sharing exactly as much as each of us wants/ is comfortable with is exactly how this is supposed to work.
