What do you use Poloniex for?

you mean leaving fiat and coin in there, or just in and out trading?
1102  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex & maker-taker fees on: March 11, 2016, 12:57:03 PM
I wonder how they treat an order that starts off with a partial fill as a taker, and subsequently completed with a partial fill as a maker. Do they treat it as 2 separate trades?

i like your forum identity.
1103  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex & maker-taker fees on: March 11, 2016, 12:21:46 PM
Poloniex has tweeted that it will be introducing maker-taker fees from 20th March.

Could this indicate anything about its economic strength or weakness?
Actually the trading fees are reduced and will attract more traders.

so your interpretation is that the business is in a strong position?

i'm just trying to do a health check on various exchanges with available data.
1104  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Where is Kraken incorporated? on: March 11, 2016, 12:07:35 PM
Is Kraken a California incorporated entity?

Im wondering if they do most of work out of japan, they seem to have connections out that way with getting the MtGox deal and also have R Ver as investor.  Decent exchange though for sure.

Thanks. I just can't find the incorporation information at Kraken's website.

I found Poloniex's incorporation info. Delaware on 9th February 2016.

i'm working on risk strategies.

when exchanges have stopped trading in the past has there been a favorite day of the week to close to capture the most customer fiat possible?

A favorite day of the week for exchanges closing? You have gotta be kidding. There has to be a way for you to use your time more efficiently.

what day of the week did Gox shutter?
1108  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Price alert app? on: March 11, 2016, 10:35:39 AM

as a write coinmarketcap dot com has the top 17 coins by market cap indicating positive % price changes in the last 24 hours (green across the board). is that at all normal?
1110  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges closing? on: March 10, 2016, 10:16:58 AM
Put another way, in the natural rhythm of the real fiat world are certain days of the seven day week known to have typically higher fiat flows to and from exchanges, regardless of coin pump and dump phases?

Consider that banks don't operate at weekend, so most transactions happens perhaps on the monday and friday?

some modern web fiat banks operate seven day transfers.
1111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum reached $10! on: March 10, 2016, 09:49:57 AM
people should definitely cash out their stake money and live to fight another day. Don't get to greedy.

when it starts to free fall will you be able to find a buyer in time? "yes, look at all those buy orders" - LOL.
1112  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Exchanges closing? on: March 10, 2016, 09:41:55 AM
I think that it would be difficult to say that on any particular day, it would be more likely for an exchange to close down. It's down to exchange-specific variables wether an exchange chooses to cease operations.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I'm a father of 1 with another 1 on its way Smiley
I've been watching some of Vitalik's videos. He is just amazing. I have a really good feeling about Ethereum. I just mortgaged my house to buy a lot of the Ethereum gas. I showed my wife the video's and she says that if I can understand it then it's probably a good idea. While I'm a little nervous about losing everything, I needed to find someway to pay for my children's future. How high do you guys think Ethereum will go? I'm not crazy am I?

Cheers, Bean
Good decision my man.  And you ought to name your kid ETHan ot sETH if it's a boy and something a bit more creative if it's a girl.   Lol

bETH/any good?

1118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: WARNING: crypto-currencies are very likely going to experience a crash soon on: March 06, 2016, 11:23:21 AM
well its's halving year, Bitcoin needs a strong support or face a supply-side consolidation. It all depends on the way Ethereum bursts. Slowly over time, or abruptly.

...there is better things out there.

Do you mean altcoins? Like what? Litecoin? Dogecoin? Monero? Of those, afaik only Monero doesn't have a mining algorithm that isn't currently mineable with ASICs.

Please don't tell me you fell for the hype of Ethereum, MaidSafe, Factom, etc..

tulip bulbs have very interesting characteristics. so do two or three coins.

And then the South Seas bubble collapsed.

i find the characteristics of the tulip bulb's life cycle very interesting. setting aside the SS bubble for just a moment, it fascinates me how the biology of a flower's reproduction process (and a virus) helped to form the first futures market. it's so interesting. the financial speculation part of the story is of less interest.

1120  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the maximum amount you keep at a single exchange on: March 06, 2016, 11:00:39 AM
once i had all my funds in one exchange wallet, but after i read about the fractional reserve that exchanges use, it's like the banks system, after that i don't trust any exchange and i have all of my bitcoin right in my wallet, where i control my private keys
Correct, just because an centralized exchange account balance shows an amount of Bitcoin does not mean it is backed by anything.
Using a centralized exchange always includes a counterpart risk and not all of their users understand how big the risks and limits really are.

This is where decentralized exchanges services (DEX) come in. That means the exchange is as decentralized as the underlying blockchain tech itself. On a DEX users are in full control of their own security, which "can" be much better than any centralized entity.

In traditional exchanges you are also limited to a set of pairs. Whereas in a real DEX everyone can create his own assets/tokens/currencys and trade them right away.
Be Your Own Bank & Be Your Own Broker.

At the moment it is just not common to use a DEX.
But time is working towards more decentralized exchange services, because they are more flexible and cannot easily get bankrupt or hacked as centralized ones can.
However the solution is not one or the other, both centralized and decentralized exchanges need to go hand in hand to provide their customers the best and safest experience.

is there a list of DEX options somewhere?
