Explain the fire fight given what I have explained to you.

It's a waste of time to pull government/media stories apart. I don't waste my time trying to figure out what known liars and fools are saying.

It's not a waste of time when you make such a claim. The fact is, you don't want to apply rational logic to your demented beliefs because they'll fall apart.

You're worse than a conspiracy theorist. You're a lazy assed conspiracy theorist who can't even spend the time demonstrating any validity to your theories. Instead, you simply buy into the conspiracy without applying your thought process to it. That, by definition, makes you not only deluded, but a sheep.

Either shut the fuck up about your ideas or back them up. Do not give me your loser fucked up lazy ass cop out answer that you don't waste your time on such things. You can start by demonstrating how the pipe bomb scenario works in your fantasy view of the world, factoring in the conundrums I proposed.

some of you can't think clearly.

I just proved you were a conspiracy theorist, the very thing you're claiming of others on this thread.

Who can't think clearly?

Explain the fire fight given what I have explained to you.

I'm talking to you, Severian.
1124  Other / Off-topic / Re: Boston Marathon Explosions on: April 22, 2013, 07:52:21 AM
Here's something for some of you to consider, because apparently, some of you can't think clearly.

1. All the members of the various involved agencies weren't briefed before hand that some nasty and disgusting conspiracy was going down and warned to be mum about the whole thing and then counted upon to be cooperative.

2. If it was only a select and tiny group of individuals "in the know", then how are all the individuals out in the field witnessing events unfolding, giving impromptu reports, etc. controlled?

Specifically, consider the pipe bombs. Let's assume that some members of the Boston police force know other members of the Boston police force that were actually involved in the fire fight. Now consider how odd it would be in the event that it never occurred and was only fabricated news. Think about that. How is it that, if queried, not a single Boston police officer would be able to say "Yes, I know of an officer who was in that fire fight." I suggest you think really hard about that. And if you don't get it, think harder.
1125  Other / Off-topic / Re: Boston Marathon Explosions on: April 22, 2013, 07:42:27 AM
Try thinking things through a little bit more before jumping on the latest conspiracy bandwagon.

The version of events as related by government/media is also a conspiracy theory. If you're partial to what's being put on TV as "the story", you're also a conspiracy theorist.

Actually, no. Journalists don't have meetings and then conspire. In fact, journalists and media companies love a good conspiracy if it has any legs. They just don't want to look as foolish as you.

Word of advice: apply some rational thought to your politically motivated belief system.

Quote from: Frank Herbert
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
(Now that's a movie. The book series is even better.)

I saw the film on opening day, 1984. I read the books years before.

"The spice must flow." Ultimately, Dune was a metaphor for OPEC. The movie was interesting, the books better. There's some real cinema treasures when you're ready.
1127  Other / Off-topic / Re: Boston Marathon Explosions on: April 22, 2013, 07:19:09 AM
Actually most of the community were pointing at the Craft International (private militia) guys who were also at Sandy Hook dressed as police, they had backpacks which matched the one that was found in shreds - the media chose to ignore them completely.

The photo of one of the suspects leaving the area seemed to be photoshopped to remove his backpack.

I've yet to see any evidence of the suspects firing at police.

Try thinking things through a little bit more before jumping on the latest conspiracy bandwagon. Because apparently, you've jumped on a few of them.

Fear of your government has you right where they want you.
Somehow, I doubt that.

Sounds like it to me.
How so?

Your posting history.

Your fears of a police state. Your fears of the tax man. Your fears of, as you are so fond of saying: "Men in blue suits". Your fears of confiscation of property.

Since identity and records play such a strong role in your world view, I suggest you watch Woman in the Dunes, a movie which explores that theme. It's considered to be one of the great films. To refuse to watch it because you disagree with me is to cheat yourself. Trailer: http://mubi.com/films/woman-in-the-dunes

From there, you can continue to remedy your cinematic ignorance by watching Sansho the Bailiff, a movie which explores the best and worst that humanity has to offer. It is considered to be one of the greatest films ever made. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=076MrMynyak

Good night now.

Quote
Edward Lewis Brown (born 1942) and his wife, Elaine Alice Brown (born c. 1940), residents of the state of New Hampshire, gained national news media attention in early 2007 for not paying the U.S. federal income tax and for refusing to surrender to federal government agents after having been convicted of tax crimes.

I suppose the best you can do is cite some singular outstanding story rather than cite from an overwhelming majority of cases or personal experience.

Fear of your government has you right where they want you.

I told you the penalty... they seize your bank account and garnish your wages.  the IRS is not evil, mike.  nor is the fed.  it's just a big group of people with calculators.  want to control the flow of taxes... become a politician.  stop hating mike, this country is great.  you don't know how good you have it.

Actually, it isn't even that severe. It's mostly a little mail and conversations with reps over the phone. It's about as benign as you could imagine.
1132  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Taxation: You Can Always Leave. on: April 22, 2013, 05:39:04 AM
Do you have personal experience with what happens? I'm assuming you don't. As someone else said, you're not as wise as you think.

I've never claimed to be the slightest bit wise, else I wouldn't ask questions.  However, I am certain America isn't going to sit around and let its citizens simply not pay taxes; after all, if evading or altering your taxes was legal, what use do we have of the IRS?  Let's get rid of them, since taxation is not enforced.

As I thought. You're only speculating. You don't have any fucking idea how the process works.

I can only imagine that you're some young rebel in search of a cause. Go get 'em!
1133  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Taxation: You Can Always Leave. on: April 22, 2013, 05:32:27 AM
that was quite possibly the most naive presentation I've ever seen.  the cloud is an idiot who keeps suggesting that if you don't pay your taxes and a policeman comes to the door and you draw a gun you will die... therefore if you don't pay your taxes you die. holy shit boy, do you really think it's that simple?  we stopped jailing paupers hundreds of years ago.

are you going to privately fund a highway?  ROFL!

how about getting some cops to lock up Jeff., guess you'd need taxes for that huh?

I was waiting for the skeleton to tell the idiot to leave and then he broke down and asked what if the Indians want their land back?   oh my fucking god boy, do you actually subscribe to this nonsense?

look me up in a few decades after your mommy stops wiping your ass and paying your Internet bill!

In a few decades, someone will be wiping your ass.  That's not a joke.

Here's a fun experiment: stop paying taxes, stop filing taxes, ignore the IRS when they ask to audit, and see what happens.  Have fun!

Do you have personal experience with what happens? I'm assuming you don't. As someone else said, you're not as wise as you think.

Let me see if I understand all this then, you conspiracy theorists:

These two brothers, with the help of the community, were identified as suspects. Conveniently, it turned out for the nefarious forces which planned this conspiracy, that upon attempting their capture, they were loaded with firepower and pipe-bombs. Is that how it goes?

Oh wait - you guys are saying the whole firefight was staged. All those police officers are in on it? And the guys on the other end of the firefight were actors! Or not? And what of the actual situation regarding the brothers?

Please enlighten me.

This would be where someone else does any of the following:

1. Mentions some movies they like (with a little bit of info about the movie or why they like it).

2. Thanks someone for pointing out some movies they haven't heard of.

3. Engages in general discourse, dialog, disagreement, questioning, or commenting.

I am Cuba is a 1964 film that had some pretty revolutionary cinematography. I haven't seen it yet but it's on my list: http://mubi.com/films/i-am-cuba

A Funeral Parade of Roses is also on my list to watch. It's a very avante-garde film from the sixties. Watch the trailer. It's slow to start with a long shot of a woman's face, but then it really picks up. One might be inclined to say the trailer is NSFW, but lots of Japanese trailers are like that. http://mubi.com/films/funeral-parade-of-roses

I absolutely want to see History of Postwar Japan as told by a Bar Hostess by Shohei Imamura. Imamura is famous for quite a number of films, one mentioned by me in my first post, entitled Pigs and Battleships. Another film he's famous for is Vengeance is Mine. Info on History of Postwar Japan as told by a Bar Hostess: http://mubi.com/films/history-of-postwar-japan-as-told-by-a-bar-hostess

As mentioned in the above paragraph, Shohei Imamura made a film called Vengeance is Mine. It's based on a true story, actually. Roger Ebert called it one of the great films and gave it four out of four stars. See his discussion of it here: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/vengeance-is-mine-2008

The trailer is here and a couple of scenes render it sort of NSFW (but that's Imamura for you): http://www.criterion.com/films/822-vengeance-is-mine

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors is a sixties film from the Soviet Union. It's on my list of films to watch: http://mubi.com/films/shadows-of-forgotten-ancestors

Andrei Tarkovsky, Russian director, made some legendary films, such as Ivan's Childhood, Stalker, and others. On my list is his film The Mirror. There is some absolutely extraordinary cinematography in his films, and they can be haunting as well. Consider that the barn is burning while he's doing this long single camera take: http://mubi.com/films/the-mirror

I love the long choreographed camera work in Koreyoshi Kurahara's films. Watch the opening scene of The Warped Ones to get an idea (click on the gray 'Preview' button): http://www.hulu.com/watch/243413

And I could look at Ruriko Asaoka's beautiful face all day long in his film Thirst For Love: http://www.hulu.com/watch/265815

@FirstAscent
If you like his other films you are going to love Dreams. It is vaguely autobiographical and based on real dreams he had. Different kinds of dreams are explored as well. From a child's dream to a hypothermia induced hallucination.

I definitely have Dreams on my list. What other films have you seen by him?
I remember:
Seven Samurai
Rashomon
Ran
and Kagemusha.
I think that is all of his work I have seen. Sometime the sub-titles can be distracting in the work of such a visual director, but i found some of his films do not have a lot of dialog anyway.

Those four films provide two interesting branches to explore. The first two prominently feature Toshiro Mifune. The second two prominently feature Tatsuya Nakadai.

If you liked Toshiro Mifune in the first two, then not only should you explore the other Kurosawa films which star him, but a few other non Kurosawa films. You should absolutely watch The Samurai Trilogy, directed by Hiroshi Inagaki, comprised of the following three titles:

Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto
Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple
Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island

I absolutely loved those three films. In addition to Toshiro Mifune, they also star Mariko Okada (more on her later). Such lush color and epic plotting. You can find their respective links at Criterion's Toshiro Mifune's page: http://www.criterion.com/explore/157-toshiro-mifune

As for Tatsuya Nakadai, he's been in some of my favorite films. Perhaps the most epic is Masaki Kobayashi's The Human Condition, which is essentially a nine and half hour film split into three films. It's basically one man's tour (an war protestor and humanist) through WWII and Japan's military machine during Japan's occupation of Manchuria. Epic.

He was also in Hiroshi Teshigahara's The Face of Another, which is a semi science fiction existentialist film which explores one's identity within society. Fantastic film. Here's a trailer to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa6BitYbhZU

Here's a lovely scene which takes place in a bar from the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjb44VhZzx4

He was also in Mikio Naruse's When a Woman Ascends the Stairs as a supporting actor. It's really Hideko Takamine's star power which makes that film so great.

Criterion also just released an Eclipse set featuring four of Masaki Kobayashi's earlier films. Three of the four star Tatsuya Nakadai. See it here: http://www.criterion.com/boxsets/952-eclipse-series-38-masaki-kobayashi-against-the-system

Find more films starring Tatsuya Nakadai on his Explore page at Criterion: http://www.criterion.com/explore/195-tatsuya-nakadai
