Hey man, I'm not sure but it looks like you may be entering a manic phase. I'd suggest you step back for a few and slow down. Have a beer and do a self check.

In truth I am having a hard time following you guys but it is good reading.
11243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 08, 2016, 09:44:49 PM
I'm selling custom built miners. Or I can build them and run them in my basement for a fee. Or you can just send me monero and I'll keep mining monero. Something with mining. I know of at least 2 individuals that have hardware that they have silent because their electricity costs are too high and/or they can't find a place to house their stuff.

and eventually I'll have this monerodo device done which I'll be selling for monero, obviously. Now I'm debating if I should have the software update via github pull / compile or just download "official" binaries. Thoughts? I could also just have it checkout some version... though I've found it a pain to un-checkout things, or go back to head or whatever.

oh yeah. I speculate bananas.

Just curious, what's the cost of the miners you are building, and how are they different from say, your average mining computer?

honestly all I would be doing is building a computer with as many GPUs as can fit on the board. The most PCI slots available on a mobo these days is 6 or 7. The trick to building these things is finding a case to put them in with proper airflow, but thats ultimately what you'd be paying me to do. And then making the mining software work and the pool software (so you could mine on your own node and get ALL OF THE BLOCK). Otherwise you could just throw one together yourself.

Don't quote me, but I think I could sell a 1.6 kh/s rig for $1200.

edited to add: which after 1 year (or whenever your done) you could then pull apart and sell the GPUs on ebay for probably 70%.

I WILL QUOTE YOU! Tongue

And this is what I did, it has the added convenience of small footprint storage and/or shipping when disassembled. Great cooling and easy access to boot.

...

Are GPUs more economical than a multicore Xeon (Phi or whatever) CPU?

Funny that it may turn out that way with the new miner (I don't know) since I just sold my last gpu a week ago after a year of them being listed. Lol

Very nice, needs button to switch to XMR and whatever other currency you will accept.

There is a "switch" under the the currency icons. And there is a choice at checkout. But i get that it needs to be shown more clearly Smiley
As i said there is much work to be done yet!

Great! I don't have my reading glasses with me, checking it out now. Smiley

Also if you have any solid gold hunter cases in the 16-18s range pm prices. Inners unnecessary.
11245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 05, 2016, 06:04:32 PM

If the coin survives 200 years but only scales to 58 million units, dilution is the least of everyone's concern.

Actually, that would be 58 000 000 000 000 000 000 (trillion?? quadrillion??) units as Monero's current denomination has 12 decimal places.
Even if you wanted Monero cents you'd still have some breathing space left. Tongue

That'll teach you to use the "units" designation! Tongue

Hydrogen Helix is great! Very good work guys. Blockchain synchronized rather fast and everything worked smooth for my laptop Smiley

Now since monero needs businesses accepting it, well, i created a rather noob jewelry eshop for some time now. I was waiting to perfect it but since this is going to take like forever with my lack of time i decided to post it and see what happens. It really is in "beta" stage if not "alpha" and after all it was intended to simply be my family business catalogue. So here it is:

http://monero.gr/eshop/

The products are handmade and are being sold in Greek islands for more than 30 years now.

Much work needs to be done, like more products, better photos, better design, gold items, more info, better way of accepting the coins, better security, etc. But anyway i dont expect to have huge volume for now...

I also pledge to donate 1% of the volume towards monero development.

For any questions please contact me either through the shop or send me a pm here. Even better is to contact me via both ways.

Very nice, needs button to switch to XMR and whatever other currency you will accept.

Hi Monero thead.

Can someone give me a few reasons why to invest in Monero.

The coins available and current price are attractive but that doesn't mean moon.

Without reading all 600 odd pages here can someone point me in the right direction with regards to finding out more.

Thanks in advance.

Just start reading from here.

TC says that people cannot be unselfish. You say they can. It's a tough question.

If someone does something with the intention of doing good for all of mankind, not directly benefiting themselves - can it be selfish? Maybe there is no way to separate it.

Example: You give food to a hungry person, or donate to a charity.

The person benefits, as they can eat and live. You do not tangibly benefit, but inside you feel good about your deed and know that you helped someone, or a group of people.

In that way, I do agree it is impossible to be unselfish.

While it is acceptable to believe living by a code of honor that continually costs you and you receive no benefit other than knowing that your principles are unwavering can be considered selfish, I would not agree with that. It is a opinion based assertion.

Yes you probably do not own any significiant amount of coins.
However, you are interested in Monero project and therefore active in this thread.

Unselfishnes there doesn't exist. You probably are looking for honor. For this seeking I recommend to joining in Risto's game.  There are titles for sale I suppose.  Grin

You continue to show your 1 dimensional thinking. I recommend taking a Critical Thinking Class.
11252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 03, 2016, 06:23:54 PM
Why? Sounds like you are shorting since rising XMR price is not in your best interest.
While you were typing I clarified what I think is the difference between "bull market" and rising market.
Been there and done the bull market thing with bitcoins.  To me, bull market is almost synonymous with bubble.  That's just been my experience.  And don't want that for Monero.
If you read my other post you  would know I have a significant long position in xmr.

My only concern is the long term survival of the coin, if you will.  And that's only because, in order for the network to survive, the coin has to survive.  We have a remarkably stable coin.  That's good!

I agree we need users.

TC will never understand that people do things for the betterment of the whole unselfishly. He is a 1 dimensional individual with one goal and that is excruciatingly obvious. Don't bother trying to explain, it falls on deaf ears.

People are divided into two group:

1) No coins and therefore do not care about the price of the coin
2) With coins and therefore care about the price of the coin.

I assume you belong to the former (based on your writing).
I might be cynical but I do not think people are unselfish. Probably some people are seeking other things than financial compensation (like honor or something else) or they are like me, purely seeking the maximal profit.

The bottomline is, each troll here (and elsewhere) has their own utility they want to maximize. For you perhaps it is not financial but for me it is financial as I am investor.
Bear in mind, monero represents currently only a small part of my entire portfolio (I try to keep investments like Monero/btc/Venture Capitalist investments below 5 % of my entire portfolio).
Most of my money is tied in bonds and real estates + appartments which generate me money.

You do realize your post substantiates mine do you not?

this is no longer supported, If you must use a GUI I would try Jwinterm's.

thank you - this is the result:

looks like I am going to stick with the command line

There are as many false positives in crypto as actuals. Compile it yourself.

OK, so IIRC now multi sig then GUI correct?

don't forget about RingCT which is very important for the privacy of your transactions! Smiley

Yup, I either forgot about that or missed it. Damn if I can remember. But is this a dependency or CAN/will it be addressed either in concert or after?

Edit: moving this to correct thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg13429434#msg13429434

The Ring CT work and the GUI work are completely independent. Multisig is likely getting combined with Ring CT at this point.

Answered there.

I thought the GUI release was being held until Multisig?

I'm not promising any schedules here, I'm just pointing out that the work requires different skills sets and will likely be done by different people. Once we finish wrapping up some loose ends from the release we'll begin to work more on the forward roadmap.

Well, my question really relates to the roadmap as I would assume we can now start the next crowd fund.
