11301  Other / Meta / Re: Rank Formula- Should it Change? on: September 01, 2017, 11:00:44 AM
No, the ranking system is too lenient and spammers aren't punished correctly as is.
Not only is it too lenient, it actually encourages spamming. Any suggestions as to what would improve it?
More frequent bans, 50% activity deduction on your second ban for spamming. The '50%' is my lenient suggestion, I'd personally go with something like 90%.

Or just nuke the account if it gets the second ban. That would be the ultimate punishment any account might face and to ensure that the account wouldn't be used in any form in the future.

I can't get in on DeepOnion airdrops because I don't have the correct membership to be able to post an ad in my signature. Now I've been here since 2013. I don't post much but when it's important I'll come talk about it. Is that style acceptable enough to somehow still retain some sort of trust around here? Can you think of a way ranks could work that involve age of account and refraining from posting crap and/or being a nuisance?

If there is an old account that hasn't contributed anything in the forum for ~4 years, I don't think it should receive any privileges of ranking since it hasn't done anything useful for this forum except for taking up some space in this forum's database.
11302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think are the biggest threats to Bitcoin prices in next 12 months on: September 01, 2017, 08:45:04 AM
The biggest threat will be the hardfork, as we can see last August we witnessed the born of BitcoinCash and because of that problem the Bitcoin price is falling down, luckily there were still a lot of Bitcoin supporters so Bitcoin can recover, but this kind of problem had made investors afraid to put their money and traders also hesitate to made a move

If there's anything that the hard fork did to bitcoin, it was giving the masses enough confidence to continue on investing since it overcame the potential crash due to the split. I myself expected that after the fork, we would be seeing a big fat crash on the side of bitcoin but it didn't.

The biggest threats from my perspective:

a.) Quantum computing

We are far from perfecting quantum computing, let alone taking it to perform complex computations to the sole purpose of cracking bitcoin.

b.) Governmental decisions

Another Chinese drama? We've had enough of it in 2014-2015 and seriously, it hasn't affected the price in any way.

c.) World War

Possible, but from my perspective this is yet another Cold War happening right now to just show who has the biggest dick of 'em all.
11303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High transaction fee can be resolved? on: September 01, 2017, 07:17:21 AM
I don't see anything wrong in the fees. /s

Honestly, the fees are so high that you cannot send any penny transaction anymore unlike in the days, and I'm not talking about its equivalent in USD. Back then, 10k satoshis would be the most common fee that you could pay and your tx would be confirmed within the next block but now, you need to pay AT LEAST 211k sats for your tx to confirm.

I hope LN solves the problem for this.
11304  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Jumps Above $4,800 for the First Time on: September 01, 2017, 05:10:29 AM
One thing's for sure, the next months I'd just be holding my coins and try to resist the temptation of buying things that I honestly don't need. The next few months would be promising if we maintain this kind of momentum. We could even reach $7000 seeing that $5000 is just around the corner.
11305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin mainstream on: September 01, 2017, 05:03:17 AM
Seeing that price only keeps on getting higher, ransomware would still be around that asks for bitcoins. Main target for this would be companies that have their security low. We wouldn't be able to get rid of it since money is always tied with evil things. Also, fiat suffers the same so why does bitcoin need to suffer the blame at all times?

Bitcoin's popularity is not related to the popularity of ransomware.
Ransomware going 'mainstream' doesn't even make sense, what are you talking about?
All ransomware now uses Bitcoin for payments.

i just watch the news that ransomeware use bitcoin for the payment.

It's easy to get away with bitcoin that's why they ask for it on payments.
11306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Transaction Fee is Expensive !!! on: September 01, 2017, 04:40:24 AM
Earlier this day I wanted to transfer $10 to my steam account but lo and behold, it's asking for a $4 tx fee which is pretty nuts. I need it within an hour but apparently if I pay any lower fees, I would be receiving the money in ~3 hours. I miss the times where you can pay 10k sats for a tx and still receive it within the next 2 blocks or so.
11307  Other / Meta / Re: separate ICO announcements on: August 31, 2017, 03:55:30 PM
After some big names in the altcoin scene became successful due to ICOs, many other coins copied the method to hopefully get some fat profits, most of which I don't think should be valued in any way since they mostly copied other coins' concept and just changed its name. Back in the days, you won't see ICOs in the ANN thread but just unique ANNs that you would really be enticed to read. It's now filled with clutter of lame marketing with the same agenda of getting other people's money.

A new board would be nice considering the fact that ICOs are getting popular everyday.
11308  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tulip Bubble & Bitcoin on: August 31, 2017, 03:49:11 PM
Unlike the Tulip bubble, bitcoin has a lot of genuine supporters backing it every single day and mind you, the number is growing. Also, there might be some corrections happening every now and then but that weren't enough to bring the price down by a significant amount. Everytime the price goes up by 20% a single day, a 'bubble' is what some people think bitcoin is and would soon be popped. The question is when? Almost a year of bullish trend and nothing happens.
11309  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Student without much $$$ on: August 31, 2017, 11:10:59 AM
You actually chose the right path on accumulating your first btc. At $100 a week, you would need 45 weeks before you can earn the whole bitcoin, but by trading alts, it would significantly be reduced since alts are also moving pretty well alongside bitcoin. Just keep on flipping alts and you'll get your 1 btc sooner as I myself am flipping alts every now and then to produce some profits, too.
11310  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Changing coins between desktop/mobile wallet or a listed exchange better? on: August 31, 2017, 10:43:39 AM
No. Coinomi and Jaxx are also wallets which handles multiple coins and ask the same fees depending on what the network's status is similar to your desktop wallets. They are like the Electrum of supported cryptocurrencies so you should be fine in terms of fees.
11311  Other / Meta / Re: Forum same IP on: August 31, 2017, 10:22:20 AM
I guess if push comes to shove you have to prove with identity...

That's why it's best to stake an address in the Meta subforum (and this topic should be in Meta, too) to provide additional verification that you control an account by signing a message, though I don't know how would it work in your case. Forum alt accounts aren't an issue as long as you don't do anything nefarious with them. Also, sharing the same IP with a friend isn't an issue as well.
11312  Economy / Speculation / Re: Markets Update: Bitcoin Skyrockets to $4650 Setting New All-Time High on: August 30, 2017, 04:32:38 PM
After the back and forth action to $4250-$4350 we have surpassed $4500 and is kinda sitting pretty on that price range. Sell walls doesn't look like someone is going to release the floodgates so I'm seeing that testing higher highs is on the way. Also, it's good that many Asian countries are now leading in terms of trade volume. Economy is starting to get stimulated from all over the world.
11313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin value crash if North Korea goes to war with Japan on: August 30, 2017, 03:36:10 PM
NoKor doesn't have any significant impact on economics anywhere in the world, but Japan does. Fortunately, NoKor will never attack any other country first due to the fact that there's only China backing them up once this shit goes to reality. Also, this is just another Cold War—in my opinion—to show other countries who has the biggest dick of them all. On the other hand, Japan continues on supporting bitcoin all the way, and it's not as if Japan holds all of the trading volume of bitcoin. It might be some small change but not that drastic.

But again, who knows? It's very unlikely that a third war might broke. It's just some egotistic leaders wanting to show off their dicks.
11314  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 29, 2017, 03:35:00 AM
As promised, post counting finished and payments sent. tx: https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/tx/1d4d4485f4f0f830ce5ebe3a1d3a537871e100392a4400e315ed79456d48c2bd

Sorry for the delays everyone! Future rounds should continue as normal. 1 slot has opened up.

Thanks for the payment, Darkstar_! Would be in time for the sale lol. Also thanks to Chipmixer for a nice campaign!
11315  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 29, 2017, 12:01:26 AM
at this rate of counting posts ,1 member a day, expect to be paid in october
sucks

Don't rely your everyday expenses into signature campaigns, I tell ya. You should find a day job if you don't have the money to feed yourself and your family if that's the case. Also, your cynicism doesn't help; the campaign manager was out for ~2 weeks and that was clearly stated in the OP.

Someone will be happy to take your place. Get out.
11316  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: August 28, 2017, 03:07:25 AM
Small update. Tomorrow is payday, but my plane back is delayed and I'll be landing near midnight tomorrow. Therefore, I can't do post counting tomorrow.

I'll make post cutoff at 11:59 PM MDT tomorrow, and hopefully get counting done on Sunday. Future weeks should continue as normal.

Have a safe trip. Flight delays are the worst to happen whenever you're on your way home lol.

I don't know, the plane you're in getting hijacked by terrorists?  Roll Eyes

A bad joke I must say, but apparently Darkstar_ managed to get home safely, lol.

@Darkstar_, it's okay if you can't get the post counting and payments done by today. Just finish it off whenever your body permits. Rest well man.

11318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese never seizes to amaze on: August 27, 2017, 12:44:40 AM
Talk about mining with toasters, this idea isn't new as 21 inc have already thought of the same, but the Chinese were the first to materialize the said idea. My concern on this one is if the household products contain BTC mining chips, people wouldn't know that something is running in their product while they use it, causing a spike on their power bill. A cool idea, but hopefully Midea group would be open whether the products they are now selling has the chips or not.
11319  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: TOR and/or VPN with a destop/mobile Wallet - good or bad? on: August 26, 2017, 05:28:39 PM
Not using vpn or tor on the machine where my coins are kept. That would be a bad practice since some exit nodes could potentially steal some precious data from your computer resulting into loss of your bitcoins. That would be the safest thing to do. Besides, that machine was never connected to the internet again after I made it as a cold storage.
11320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spam attacks cost money, how much money do these people have? on: August 26, 2017, 05:23:29 PM
I have no proof or source but you can't tell me that the increasing number of unconfirmed transactions that we currently have is pretty normal?  Huh because it's clearly not unless I'm missing something.

Spam attacks plus miners not accepting low fee transactions = basically what we have right now. It's kinda frustrating to think that spam attacks can easily be done by the miners themselves to get high tx fees going thus producing more profit. This is what happens when some egotistic miners don't get what they wanted.
