If you disagree that the forum operators are going against the spirit (if not the letter) of the MIT/X11 Open Source License, I look forward to your response.
Operating a discussion forum has nothing to do with subject matter such as software licensing. The forum is not source code or intellectual property, and its administrators and moderators have the right to administer and moderate as they see fit. It's also private property and its owners and management have the right to manage it or dispose of it as they see fit, and also have the right to define the mission and vision of the forums, to update these as needs and circumstances change, and to make administrative decisions consistent with them. I am not certain why this is even a question. The MIT/X11 Open Source License has about as much relevance here as the Book of Mormon. +1. It is the right of a webmaster to censor content on his/her website as they see fit. This is one place where freedom of speech does not apply, and most people fail to understand that.

The day when a bunch of fucking crybabies whine about what can and can't be posted in their internet forums is the day you have to start really wondering what you're doing with your life. Entitlement and delusions of granduer.....hoooooooooo!!!!!!!
Where exactly is he "whining"? I take his opinion just as valid as anyone else's whether or not I agree with it. That's exactly the point I'm making. It's just his opinion. Someone blowing smoke because (it seems anyway) like someone pissed in the OPs wheaties, every day, for 20-30 consecutive years. If the admins think the section should go, they'll say something. In the meantime, making threads about it, especially taking the time to go to said alt forums despite the fact you explicitly state you do not like it, is not only ironic but laughable. Because owning bitcoin and alt coins and talking about them is a pissing contest. Right? ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) Don't get me wrong, I am so glad the give aways were banned. And I am getting tired of people generating stupid coins with no value, intrinsic or monetary. But there's better ways to fix those problems rather than be a Nazi about it. You win the internet award for dumbest argument ever. your argument in one sentence: "I know the Alt Section is a problem, but the best way to fix it is to do nothing." bullet proof logic.

Crazy that Digitalcoin is behind crap coins like YbCoin, Infinitecoin, Kittehcoin and Tickets.
I think we'll see in time that these things have a way of working themselves out. I sure hope so. all of these scamcoins are making me avoid the alt section. i'll be the first one to say, i always thought DGC was gonna be a pump and dump, but the Development team have proven me wrong time and time again. It's great to see a coin that came out when i first got into crypto is still alive and kicking. I really think DGC will be one of the few that can stick around once regulation comes. sidenote: that blockr.io site is straight up sexy.

i vote yes to this thread. Perhaps if the Altcoin section was divided into a few sections with subsections for bigger coins restriced to posts about those coins
"Established Altcoins" - LTC, PPC, XPM, FTC, NMC etc "Up and Coming" - DOGE, STR, TIPS, QRK, WDC "New Coins - anything most likely a scam or newely released.
Do not pay attention to the exact above list, I just picked a few established coins, and a few with higher trade volumes on exchanges. My biggest hatred of the Altcoin section is how 9 of every 10 threads are filled with crap, and they amount of alts created is crazy! Its more work in moderation, and perhaps out of the scope of the mods here... but just my thoughts if they wanted to do something.
The Announcments, Market Place, and mining sub-sections were a good start.
The problem is, everything in your "up and coming" list is a scam/hypefest with little justification to be considered "up and coming".

Yes who are our trusted pools, the ashhunt pool is unfair to be closing when cant even pull out coins because they can't be confirmed.
yes the pool is so unfair. it has nothing to do with the coin being a piece of shit... Takes one to know one I guess.... Hey that's ok. I heard BCX was looking for something new to fork.

If anyone still disagrees, please look up the words official, legal and fiction, in a dictionary before responding.
So basically, what you're saying is that you're very angry at: - Merchants accepting bitcoins - Journalists writing about bitcoin - Anyone talking about bitcoin in the street - etc. For not mentioning which fork of which blockchain they're referring to? ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) lol. If you read the posts, a commentor does seem to be angry but it's not me. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) But what I'm basically saying is the opposite of what you posted. I'm clueless. Care to explain again why I'm on the opposite side of where your beleifs stand, please? He's almost as delusional the Astrocoin Dev Team. Almost

I don't see what the big deal is. I've traded on cryptsy since day one and never had a problem. I would say I've had up to 100 btc in coins in a single transaction and about 1000 btc in volume over the same time frame and did not lose 1 coin.
Is this a new and in regulated industry? Yes. Are people taking a huge risk getting involve in crypto at this time? Yes. If you want safety and can't afford risk leave cryptos and come back in 10 years when you can buy them through your broker I'm a 401k, otherwise accept the risk and do what you can to protect your self...
1. Send small amounts for coins ($ value) to reduce your loss of the are network issues. 2. Double check addresses. Most lost coins are because people typo an address. 3. Learn to read the block chain do you can prove a transaction was sent and to where. It is your receipt. If you can't show a receipt then all your complaints is just whining.
I myself haven't had any problem either, other than some odd delays in getting btc. now that i've ran my own exchange however, i know exactly what the delays were. sometimes when you move coins to the hotwallet, they get stuck and take a long time to confirm due to the sheer amount of transactions in the bitcoin network. that is something that affects all of bitcoin, not just cryptsy. it took about 2 hours last night to get some coins into the hotwallet at our exchange. this is something you can't hold cryptsy responsible for. I have heard many tales of coins dissapearing, but it has never happened to me personally, so i can't really comment on that.

I'm not trying to pick on you Saltyspoon but I just want to set the record straight to prove my point that BitcoinTalk perpectuates a legal fiction that there is one official Bitcoin. There is one official Bitcoin block chain. It should be a goal of the entire community to ensure that there is a definitive way to pay someone a Bitcoin. There is nothing wrong with protecting the *name* Bitcoin, and I think that's something Bitcoin supports should strive to do. If not, Bitcoin's chances as a currency will be harmed. My recollection of the "bitcoin scrypt" issue was that it was initially banned out of a belief that it could case damage to bitcoin wallets. Once that was resolved, the ban remained because of the dilution of the bitcoin name. In my opinion, that's a perfectly legitimate reason for a ban. i agree on all points. on the surface, we oppose censorship, but in reality censorship is a gray area, and we must only oppose censhorship to the extent that a lack of censorship does not adversely affect us and our investments. this is a bitcoin forum and as such it is a major investment vehicle for bitcoin. Therefore, I believe the main interest or goal of the staff should be to protect Bitcoin. Alt currencies, while sharing the protocol are not bitcoin and should therefore be seen as secondary to the issues that surround bitcoin.
