1144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [USDe] Unitary Status Dollar eCoin ** MANDATORY UPDATE @ BLOCK 107,500! ** on: March 17, 2014, 10:05:37 PM
I see a lot of altcoins including USDe going down at the moment. Anybody an idea why?
Waiting for some BTC to get in to set some buy walls again.

Mondays usually are down days.  More saturation with still too many junk coins.  Miners still just dump which keeps price down, not using or holding.  Many reasons really, and Bitcoin is still under pressure holding everything back.

It is not a dead link.

I'm on steady mining - like it a lot, never really experienced any downtime, it seems to reap some great rewards as a pool, and typical nice interface is easy to use when need to access the site (like most others).  I recommend it :-)

1147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [USDe] Unitary Status Dollar eCoin ** MANDATORY UPDATE @ BLOCK 107,500! ** on: March 15, 2014, 02:41:04 PM
*** We are at block 106,907 ***
** *We'll be at 107,500 in hours! ***

Reminder:
1. We have been reaching out to pools, created these notifications weeks ago, but please do reach out to any pool you are mining to ensure they are on the latest wallet software, protocol 000003.

2. Just to be safe, be careful today in withdrawing or moving large amounts of USDe.  Possibly do a small test first to ensure both parties are on the correctly forked block chain.

We/I am hoping this fork goes smooth since it has been advertised as mandatory, but there are always some glitches with people - we are talking about a decentralized currency here.  Ha, maybe that's the one benefit of online banking ;-)

I remain excited for USDe:
  • this block change creates a new level of fairness and predictability.
  • we are approaching our first 1/3 of coin supply (thus halving of reward) in future weeks
  • USDe is popping on more exchanges (AGX launches today)
  • the board and supportive community are constantly working to better USDe

Everyone have a great weekend!

I pretty much sold all my alt coins and exchanged for USDe.   I can only hope we'll go up in price with the coming fork.  Tongue

The fork may bring a little more price increase but probably not.  We will approach the first 1/3 of coin supply in weeks ahead as well, thus halving all rewards - that will probably do more.  USDe is a hold if you want to either trade or use it at higher prices I'd say - that as well as there is more $ flowing into the overall crypto market every day/week.  USDe will continue to be solid, make improvements, and will naturally increase as some of the other more "light hearted meme" type coins die off.

Coinmarket.io was using the wrong blockchain for some time and didn't update in time before block #91k at which we switched from 120 block difficulty retarget to Kimoto Gravity Well. We have given the community 10-11 days to update, and notified everyone we could about the update. If an exchange didn't comply, there's not much we can do. Coinmarket.io hasn't been the most stable of exchanges and has gone offline for many days too... which is why until it stabilizes, we have removed it from our Web Site and the first page of this thread.

hey guys

I could do with a bit of help here, I'm missing 144,854 coins I transferred out of coinmarket.io

This is my transaction ID
672b8ad58f4b1b8dbfe76ae0d0ea3dfbd72f150c6306b8597bfc4f83bf493a22

When I check it in the block explorer, I get nothing.

I updated to the newest wallet, as the old wallet showed the transaction as Unconfirmed for a few days.
Now the new wallet is up to date, I've got absolutely nothing showing the wallet any more..... Sad

Any help would be appreciated - I kept backup's of the wallets when I upgraded (deleted everything else in the appdata folder)

Cheers Smiley

To build on this, if Coinmarket.io is back up, there is hope of getting those coins again.  The owner/site would need to just resend them if they are on the new correct block chain and they should appear in your wallet at that point.  We did have quite a bit of trouble with Coinmarket.io as did all coins at the time - the site could stay up, issues with a great deal of wallets, and right when we were forking as well so they didn't take the proactive approach of updating it seemed.

Let me know if we can help; but do get in touch with Coinmarket directly and open a ticket, if they are up and running again.

UPDATE BEFORE BLOCK # 107,500
(approximately by 3/13/2014)

Am I missing something or isn't this date way off. Shouldn't it be like this Saturday evening (3/15/2014)?

Were on block 104,000 and have 3,500 left at a minute on average, leaving like 2.5 days yet... Not happening today I guess.

Yes, I calculated sometime Sat/Sun depending where you are in the world.  We will update that date.

After this weekend we can more easily calculate the first block halving as well since all block payouts will be even.  That should hit sometime before end of May I believe.

Sorry to hear that Strawhead. The exchange is unfortunately the tricky part. They are the areas that get attacked or fall prey to greed. You can still mine USDe. There is plenty of coin to start a new.

Best of luck in the future, no matter what choice you make!

I wasn't a miner, just an investor.  I'm reading the coinmarket forum on here in the hopes that they will be honest and get the people their coins, but I think it's futile.

I used Coinmarket.io myself. I did not find any issues with Coinmarket when I used them, but sadly it appears some serious issues have happened. I would like to know if greed, scam or hacking occurred.

We'll have to keep an eye out for if/when coinmarket.io returns.   There are more exchanges out there in China and beyond; however, as  partners USDe more officially endorses right, now we remind everyone to consider:

mintpal.com - (new) launched 3/10
agx.io - (new) launches Thursday 3/13
poloniex.com
allcrypt.com
swisscex.com
cryptorush.in

In case nobody knows about this case, might as well look it up for your own educational purposes:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Dollar

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/25/us/liberty-dollar-creator-awaits-his-fate-behind-bars.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

I'm not sure if it is relevant at all to USDe, but it's worth thinking about.

Just did some quick reading from the wiki, this kind of stands out ( 18 U.S.C. § 486)
Quote
Whoever, except as authorized by law, makes or utters or passes, or attempts to utter or pass, any coins of gold or silver or other metal, or alloys of metals, intended for use as current money, whether in the resemblance of coins of the United States or of foreign countries, or of original design, shall be fined under this title  [1] or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

This one seems a little more concerning, as the above seems to be based on physical properties, and this one doesn't seem to have such a limit:
18 U.S.C. § 514 http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/514

And reading through the rest of the wiki, the other codes seem to be around fraud and the use of gold/silver as currency. You can find most of the codes violated in this section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Dollar#Indictment.

I don't think the liberty dollar scenario can be applied to USDe specifically, but it could be applied to any currency that hopes to "undermine" the US dollar and take its place.

Granted I'm not a lawyer, but beyond such concerns as they apply to digital currency, I'm wondering about exchanges running in the US and the laws that might or might not surround them. This particular wiki sticks out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_currency_exchanger#Regulatory_issues and these phrases stick out: "operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business"; "on charges of operating an illegal digital currency exchange and money transmittal business";

Granted wiki isn't the best source of info, but it gives you a basic idea, more or less that the US government doesn't like competition. I do hope the Austin exchange knows what they're doing.

Agree on a few things:
1. It'll be interested to see how USA based exchanges fair.  Technically Coinbase is an exchange for USD to BTC and is doing fine.  AGX is launching in Austin TX, etc.  It comes down to local state law regulations at this point and eventually more Federal.  At minimum though, all USA based exchanges have to fully comply with anti-money laundering laws, thus is why you have to validate your identity and address on these exchanges (especially to insert/withdraw) money into or from the digital realm where it moves so easily.
2. USDe is in not going to have issue trying to emulate the USDE (dept of education) or undermining the US Dollar.  It is and setting up to be a new common currency that carries the "Dollar" type/name, just like 21 other countries do.  There is a patriotic theme here associate with it which will continuously be evaluated I'm sure so that the currency well represents "a global" approach

My quick 2 cents at this time of thought...
1153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [USDe] Unitary Status Dollar eCoin ** MANDATORY UPDATE @ BLOCK 107,500! ** on: March 12, 2014, 05:24:03 PM
anyone have issue with the new wallet?

Not me, what is your problem?

my issue tat my coins are in unconfirmed state. in the old wallet everything is confirm. but i move to the new wallet, half of my coins are in unconfirmed.

robrob, what kind of coins are in question here?

1. Were they incoming incoming/received coin transactions?  If so, where from, a Pool, and when, etc?  If the pool was not on correct chain when send them (and creating/mining them) then they will never arrive or exist again.
2. If outgoing, then when did you send them?  Those should time out if were on the wrong block chain for example.

You can delete everything but the wallet.dat file (also back it up to be safe) and restart the wallet.  It will redownload the entire USDe block chain.  If #1 above was true, they will just disappear, you will have never received them and they won't be there anymore waiting for confirm - sorry.

I'm not going to lie..

this looking pretty damn good..

https://agx.io/markets/287/trade

Yeah, I like the look of AGX as well, definitely has some potential to become widely used if they keep up the quality support and communications.  Plus, they are technically based in Austin TX, so a local USA based exchange - maybe a little more dependable/respected?  USDe is going to be on AGX when it launches soon.

FYI - I am working with/on the board and the team is coming together all the time, constantly throughout the day monitoring activity, and there are some solid project plans coming together.  Improvements will come, not every single day of course, but some consistent improvements will keep coming for USDe rest assured.  I believe some communication on this organization will be due out soon.

Take good care and thanks for being such a verbal strong supporter as well.

So it looks like we are about ~4850 blocks away from our 2nd and final fork to remove all bonus payouts for USDe.  In the USA, this is about 3.3 days away at the 1 minute per block rate.  That means everyone really needs to be on the updated wallet/code as of ~Saturday late AM in the USA (I'm speaking from the CST/Chicago time zone) - adjust as necessary!

This will be an exciting change and we will make sure it goes as smooth as possible.  Exchanges have already been updating that we work with but again few tips as we can assume some services may not have proactively made the update:

Personally
1.  MOST IMPORTANTLY - make sure your personal wallet is up to date.  This would show protocol version 00003 if you type "getinfo" into the debug console.

Exchanges:
1. If you make transactions to width drawl from an exchange on Saturday - Monday, first try a small amount to ensure they are on the right block chain.  If you receive it after the fork then they are good to go.
2. If errors do occur with deposits/withdrawls at exchanges, the good news is they can be fixed by the side with incorrect block chain deleting it, updating, and rescanning in the new one - don't panic.

Pools
1. Proactively ask your pool in advance if they don't have news if they have updated.  Most have but there could be some smaller ones out there.
2. Note, any coins that are mined on a pool that has not updated will not be recoverable - as technically they never existed not the right block chain.

The board as well as entire community will be monitoring this fork of course and let's all work together to prepare, allow it to occur smoothly, and then move on from there.  This will create a new level of predictability and fairness for the average miner for USDe, create a little more scarcity, and set a strong base for other improvements that are going to be made in the months ahead that are nontechnical (marketing, redesign, acceptance, etc.).

Thanks all!

This came from the chat box(trollbox) on poloniex:

noble_trader: have the USDE devs told their community yet they wont get listed on any US based exchange due to USDE violating the laws around naming & government agencies

noble_trader: dont believe me - read into naming laws and 'impersonating' government agencies/orgs/services in the US

I thought that due to the full name of usde being what it is, it wouldnt interfere with being too similar to the us dollar and violating any laws

Does that hurt us in any way or is it pure trolling?

Sounds like trolling.
1. Will still look into it though, always good to prepare.
2. USDE is clearly the department of Education, not a big problem, very different.
3. Dollar is very generic - There are a LOT (~21) of countries with Dollar denominations, i.e. Canada, Australia, US, Singapore, etc.
1157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [USDe] Unitary Status Dollar eCoin ** MANDATORY UPDATE @ BLOCK 107,500! ** on: March 12, 2014, 12:33:00 AM
Why is nobody using AllCrypt?
We voted and paid to get on there. This is also my favorite exchange so far. Very professional and easy to read.
They did say markets with low volume will be removed. We should at least throw some orders up there.

We didn't pay to get on Allcrypt, but I will agree in that it does look nice.  I think it is an issue with our overall total volume being spread across many exchanges already - it is hard for a new one to become very accepted but as Allcrypt gets more support (if they do) then volume will move their naturally.  Like the look also.  Exchanges are popping up often it seems, we are on 2 more soon even that look to also try and be new leaders.

As to help out with this we will continue to spread the word, get more miners (permanent ones), get more investors, and grow USDe - so there is so much volume, trade, and use, that there will be plenty of activity on all exchanges I hope.  ;-)

Congrats guys. you did it!! another great exchange added to our list!

BTCut theres still a lot of work to do! Don't stop here!

Thanks to all of us.  There is work to do and just as a reminder, we have two more listings starting soon:

1. AGX launches their exchange, USDe is a premier coin on their.  They actually start some beta trading on Tuesday 3/11 before official launch.  I really like this exchange as it looks great, sounds like they really put a lot of thought into it (e.g. no downtime, scalable, etc.).

2. Lazycoins is looking to launch soon - you can already go register and get a feel for its look.  USDe will be a coin to premier on this exchange also.
