The issue as I have now come to understand it is simply a doubling of the total amount.  The percentage of each stake remains unchanged (I.e. 1MM NEM is now 2MM NEM).

The genesis of this change being the apparent Chinese superstition regarding the number "4".

The genesis of the change may have been an apparent Chinese superstition. But then some attempted rationale was put forth to increase its number regardless. Hence the figure of 8 Billion came about although a larger number is still something that can be pondered and weighed upon.

It was 4 billion that was picked out the air. After discussion by Nemsters on the Forum the number 8 billion came up for a variety of reasons and was decidedly liked by most over the original 4 B.

Do we want to cater for the Asians? Any Asian new to the movement would probably pick 8 billion rather than 4
Also I agree that when NEM becomes popular, do we want to talk about decimal points like BtC....I find it confusing when something is worth 0.00065 of a btc for example. Perhaps 80 billion would bring pricing amounts up to closer to what we are all familiar with.

What is the point for such a big change at this point? People who have bought their stakes in AE will get confused and the same effect go along with those who does not visit this topic regulary. Given the point that devaluation of NEM could seriously harm the price, IMO Just burn one NEM.

That is just a terrible choice from marketing- and economics perspective.

There is no marketing perspective here.  A marketing person would take the perspective of what we can do to make NEM more appealing to future users and adjusting the total supply is one means of increasing appeal.

Having 4 billion "death coins" could be a deal breaker for hypothetical users in East Asia.   Call them superstitious but a coin supply of 666 million or 13 billion would result in similar hysteria among Americans.

What is technically going on here is actually appeasement of a minority opinion of stakeholders.   The sample poll was in favor of 8 billion coins (the logo vote had a smaller margin in favor and I voted against that penis logo, by the way)

+ 8 billion

Its interesting how some here want the participation of people from other cultures for the benefit of the NEM whilst at the same time ridiculing their beliefs and cultural psychology.

From what I can gather it were mostly non-asian people who actually came up with the topic.
At the same time we had a few chinese people saying that younger generations don't give a flying fart about those things anymore.

I believe changing the number this late just because there might be supersticion is not a wise move (and I'm saying "not wise" because I have to be polite now).

1143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: November 06, 2014, 06:23:02 PM
Cannot start NIS Huh

Oops!
ERROR 305
NEM Infrastructure Server is not available.

have you started nis by right clicking nem monitor and hit start nis?

Yes, but is not starting

Java up-to-date ?
Where you running an older version of the client before ?
Any very old wallets still there ?
OS ?
standalone or webstart ?

Installed the NEM webstart two days ago, and was working perfectly! No changes and today NIS is not starting! OS is Windows 7

That's very strange.
Any chance NIS is already running in the background ?
How many java processes do you see ?

1149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: November 04, 2014, 08:52:27 AM
so, i installed NEM, created a real data account and transfer the stake from NXT AE with the encrypted message of my real data NEM account (N....)

and now  Huh  Huh  Huh

i'm still logged in with another NEM account (T....). When and how do i see my NEMs in my wallet and can start with harvesting?

Now you can check if you have successfully registered here (use ctrl-f to find easier): https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered

Yes, it is normal to still have anly T (test) addresses and "account" since real NEMs haven't yet been released.

If you want to test the system you can do that by using testNEMs. Just put your testNEM address in the signature or go to official forum and request it there:
https://forum.nemcoin.com/index.php?topic=2547.0
You can harvest with testNEMs but it is all just for testing for now.

Further instructions/info will be posted soon. Please check frequently this thread as well as other resources:

plus it was supposed to be UNENCRYPTED as in NOT ENCRYPTED. Well, more manual work for me.

it's the same as phase 2. I suggest you completely forget that graphic.

Looking at the accepted stake list all I can see is loads of NXT AE stakes.

I thought this was fair distribution?

Ironically the guys who made money from NXT are now the guys with tons of stakes and the majority of NEM.

This took a year?

It must be hard if you're not capable of scrolling down.

Also I'm still waiting for you qora address so you can redeem your stake in qora.

Phase 2 Btt Stakeholders Redemption Guide

End of Phase 1 on October 31, 2014 (yeah, Halloween)

Phase 1 will end on October 31, 2014. Anyone who is a stakeholder on btt (not on the NXT AE) and hasn't registered his token until this date, will have the opportunity to redeem his stake during the extended period after launch under the already announced limitations outline here https://medium.com/@xtester/extended-redemption-period-d6e7ceaf3a53.

This will also mark the beginning of phase 2. As soon as phase 1 is over the portal will be adapted for phase 2 and we'll let you know once it's ready. When it is ready, btt stakeholders will need to register their real NEM-addresses (starting with 'N'). You'll need to enter your token and an address that you have generated according to Phase 2 Redemption Guide.

We'd like to remind you to read and follow these instructions very carefully and to keep your private key safe and secret.

Once phase 2 has begun we'll also reset the https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered page to display only people who have registered their NEM-address in combination to their token. It will also show the NXT-Addresseses that have already sent back their NEMStake and the NEM-address that has been registered with that transaction. We urge everyone to check this list to make sure everything is in order! It is your responsibility to make sure everything is alright.

Hello, I have register my token on phase 1 and saw my name on the list. But for phase 2, where do I register my newly register NEM-address? Those instructions are very complicated, sincerely.

You register it on the same site as in phase 1: https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes
After you've done that you can check https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered to see if everything went alright.

Thanks it work.  Grin

Maybe in the instructions should be written: "Stay tuned. Search from the forums words "thanks, it work" and locate in that way the updated guides!"
 Sad

In the time you spent nagin around here you could have made yourself usefull and put together an easier to understand guide.

Reading  comments from some NEM main members questioning people's reading skills/intelligence because they don't know what to do is rather insulting. What if english is not someone's first language? How are they able to follow this maze of information?

Point me to that post.

I'm a BTT stakeholder.

I registered my received Token by PM.

What is the next step? I can create a real NEM account, but where do I need to send it to? It's confusing with the AE stakeholder and the BTT stakeholder.

And how much time do I have to do this?

Check this out https://forum.nemcoin.com/index.php?topic=2488.0

Deadline will be announced soon.
1159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here[Updates & Discussion] on: November 03, 2014, 09:13:14 AM
Step three:

I have a doubt: the address in green in the picture is different from the address in the left cornet of the client! which one is the real address? which one should i have to use??

Is there any way to make sure that the address in green that i've copied is correct?
the address is the corner is testnet and the one you created is live net.. Livenet addresses start. With "N" where as test net start with "T". Once you have created and saved your data you can go to "verify account data" entrenched details and check that it is correct. You send off the address that gets created with the private and public key

thx a lot!
Now I have successfully registered my stake!

But i really don't understand how i can send my NEMStake to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH....

Do i have to use an nxt client?? pls, help me!

I think you can use secureAe if that's what you are using. Go to account > portfolio/my assets > transfer asset(next to nemstake) and include a message containing you live net address and for recipient enter the nxt address you need to send it to. Don't encrypt.

Or use nxtclient.

for secureAe do you mean this?--> http://www.secureae.com/

I've never used it Sad

Maybe it's better if i use nxtclient...i think is more simple, isn't it?

I haven't used SAE either but it seems some people have problems with it in regards to messages.
I'd strongly suggest to use the nxt client. It's simple and reliable.

Is it 8 Billion Nem coins divided to all the Nemstake holders?

no, 4b

Don't post BS. The plan was that 75% of the 4 billion would be divided to stakeholders who claim the coins.  That's 3 billion -- not 4 billion.  Given  at least 25% of those who registered in January are unlikely to show up, that means only 50% of coins will be distributed to stakeholders. The other half will be in total control of developers.

They are talking about the overall number of coins..."which will be 8 billion  Cool

wouldn't bet on that.
