1141  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Do the Pools buy Hashrate / share with individuals? on: August 10, 2023, 12:47:42 PM
Thanks for the healthy discussion guys. So in my understanding and from the conversation above

Summary:
- Miners are never outdated
- Miners can be resold
- Miners can be scrapped
- You can not go for actual pool sharing concept since it's not really profitable
- You can still profit from the old miners if you have got free electricity at hands.
- There are no pools who has this concept due to the reasons mentioned above.
Like any device, there will come a time when you stop using it, either because the device needs frequent repair, or the return from its operation is less than the operating cost (maintenance, electricity, cooling, the price of bitcoin)
If this happens, you can operate the device for experimentation and enjoyment, but you will definitely not continue to operate it because it is a failed project.

People join mining pools because they can't afford to create a mining farm that produces a good hashrate to solo mine Bitcoint, so they prefer the possible profit rather than the near impossible profit.
1142  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Wallets created with Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) are insecure! on: August 10, 2023, 12:23:17 PM
Are there any educational articles on the security of wallets/ tools and anything related to private keys on this forum?

For ordinary users, well they don't know how to review the code if the code is available.
You can start with this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5316005.0 It explains well the concept of the private key and the entropy behind it, there are some videos in YouTube but they go into the details without giving a background.

What crypto wallets use this library?
at some time https://openbazaar.org and Cody Wilson & @genjix DarkWallet (no longer working now) was using it.

I don't know if there is any new wallet uses this library, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of the closed source wallets used it.
1143  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MEXC, insanely low trading fees. How are these guys making money? on: August 10, 2023, 11:09:51 AM
I cant remember the exchange name but there was that offer zero withdrawal fees, this was the reason why some people used them, so he thought of it as a marketing trick.

Some other reasons could be

  • There may be some hidden fees here.
  • A high withdrawal fees
  • A temporary offer, and sometimes may give up part of their profits to ensure that more users make purchases and deposits.

bad reasons can be
  • misuses customers' money: instead of charging fees, it takes advantage of customers' money and invests it in high-risk investments, from which it obtains financing.
  • Low exchange rates: The exchange rates are much lower than the prices in other platforms and they make profits from this difference.
  • They want to steal customers' money after gaining their trust.

I think the reason for MEXC is a temporary promotion.
1144  Other / Meta / Re: Factoid slots. [Request] to update information, remove old ones & add new ones. on: August 10, 2023, 10:05:12 AM
I found an old thread talking about Factoid Spots
Some of them have been removed and these are general conditions for new factoid slots.

I removed the dead links.

If anyone has any suggestions for new factoids, post them here and I might add them. Factoids should be:
- Interesting, informative, or funny. The ones I wrote (most of them) are mainly focused on Bitcoin technology and history, but other Bitcoin-relevant topics could also be discussed.
- Not obvious to 99% of readers. Ideally, readers will learn something from the factoids, and maybe even be surprised.
- Not offensive
- Less than ~250 characters
- Very unobtrusive. (Much less flashy than regular forum ads.)

I probably won't add factoids that consist only of links. The factoids are supposed to be interesting in themselves. (Donators each get to choose a factoid, which explains some of the existing links and strangeness within the factoids.)

Here is another topic by theymos Ideas for new factoids?

Also, while forum ads can't normally contain images, I would probably accept forum-related "fanart" here, perhaps in the style of 4chan's board banners. Max dimensions are 42px high by 500px wide.
1145  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Wallets created with Libbitcoin Explorer (bx) are insecure! on: August 09, 2023, 02:32:33 PM
This looks very interesting, restricts the entropy from 128/256 bits to 32 bits.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason for hacking some closed source wallets like Atomic Wallet, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were using deterministic random number generators.

I think we have enough reasons to stop using closed source wallets because we don't know exactly what updates they make and whether they check entropy is really random or they rely on outdated libraries for PRNG.
1146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Promoting P2P transactions through Bitcoin Community on: August 09, 2023, 02:00:49 PM
We can say that P2P payments mean that you do not need a third party such as a bank to ensure that the money will reach the buyer, and here we will say that all bitcoin transactions are P2P payments, even if they are sent to exchange, as the transaction from your wallet to the platform is P2P payments, but what happens inside exchange is not yours to do so Not your keys not your coins rule.

After the first confirmation, trust is transferred from you to the second party and here you can enhance privacy using mixing services and full node management, with TOR, you can enhance trust by paying to a party you trust or use collateral, enhance liquidity by not burning your coins or giving them for free to scammers.
1147  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Do the Pools buy Hashrate / share with individuals? on: August 09, 2023, 01:45:11 PM
This is about the outdated miners and their pool sharing.
I don't know what you mean by outdated miners, since it is bitcoin mining that does not depend on how modern the mining tools are. In the end, it is Th/s accounts for the cost of electricity, so there are no outdated miners, but they are not profitable.
You can mine Bitcoin by guessing it on a piece of paper, but the probability of finding a block is almost zero, so ASICs are used.

When you buy mining tools, you take into account the return on investment, the cost of electricity, cooling, and the depreciation rate, which we can describe as five years. If you cannot at least recover your capital and sell miners during 5-Years, then you are mining wrongly.
1148  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: My Opinion on Binance termination of some spot trading pairs. on: August 09, 2023, 01:08:43 PM
You missed the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) case with Paxos that stopped printing more BUSD.
users have the option to convert it into any currency before a certain date, or it will be converted directly into USDP on the Binas platform. I think the conversion will be into USDT. https://www.binance.com/en-IN/feed/post/216379

Quote
Paxos will continue supporting BUSD until at least February 2024. Customers will get the chance to cash out their holdings in American dollars or convert them into Pax Dollars (USDP) - another stablecoin issued by the firm and pegged to the greenback.

Changpeng Zhao (CZ) – CEO of Binance – said about BUSD holders

Quote
Binance will continue to support BUSD for the foreseeable future. We do foresee users migrating to other stablecoins over time. And we will make product adjustments accordingly. e.g., move away from using BUSD as the main pair for trading, etc.,” the exec added.

The foreseeable future came after about 6 months.
1149  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Hacker attacks again on: August 09, 2023, 01:02:44 PM
If there was a deal like returning 10% and closing the case, which hacker would want it? After all, laundering millions of dollars will not be easy, and you will always be afraid of being caught.
10% is a good amount and he may not have to pay taxes if he does not sell it, all he needs is to wait for several years and he will have an amount equal to approximately 30% to 50% of the stolen amount legally instead of getting 100% with the fear of being arrested.

most systems tend to give rewards for finding bugs instead of entering into negotiations with hackers that may lead to a loss of 10% of the hot wallet.
1150  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet didn't receive transaction or doesn't display it on: August 09, 2023, 12:22:48 PM
If the transaction is still unconfirmed I suggest import the backup seed from the blockchain wallet to Electum and bump the fee but I think it was already rejected from other nodes mentioned above it only shows on the blockchain but not on the other explorer.
This will not work because the transaction when it was created was created by blockchain.com and that means the RBF flag will not work.

For now, you can't broadcast it since the majority of the mempools will reject it due to its fee rate.
You can only save it locally to your wallet via:
  • Menu: "Tools->Load Transaction->From text"
  • Paste the Raw Transaction above, click "Load Transaction".
  • Then click "Add to History".
I want to ask what is the point of rebroadcasting it, if he waits for several days and it is dropped, he can create a new transaction with a higher balance or extract the seed move it to any wallet that supports RBF like electrum? Or am I wrong? Huh
1151  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal becomes first major fintech to launch dollar-backed stablecoin on: August 09, 2023, 09:58:51 AM
Isn't Paxos Trust Co the same company that issued Binance USD (BUSD) and which issued a decision from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) Follow the rest of the news from here https://www.binance.com/en-IN/feed/post /216379

What makes the authorities now allow PayPal what was forbidden to Binance despite the great similarity between both assets.
Also, after Moody's lowered the credit rating of the United States, he was surprised at the type of assets that would be taken to liquidate assets, would it be US Treasury bonds.

I see it as an attempt by them to collect some liquidity, especially since many will sell their bitcoins in exchange for stable currencies when the price of bitcoin rises and it will not be a future policy.
1152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Need your feedback for our new project on: August 07, 2023, 12:29:42 PM
Domain and project details for about two years. However, there is no active product for you, not on social media pages, not even articles or analyzes. What was the project doing during the past two years?

I see that you offer interest rate products along with derivatives, however, the service is decentralized and interacts with the oracle network with centralized products, so how can this be done without identity verification?

1153  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: OK, I have to ask about this Electrum thing I saw on craigslist.... on: August 07, 2023, 12:18:28 PM
electrumcore dooot org is phishing site and have been discussion here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5455924.0

This scammer may tell you that he will send first, but he will use a reversible payment method, and once you send bitcoins in which the transactions are irreversible, he run out with your money and scam you.

They always have stories like I have frozen money in an area or I will pay you a higher amount and a guaranteed profit to be greedy and stop thinking.
1154  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: One of the worst examples of a "HW wallet" on ebay I've ever seen on: August 07, 2023, 10:28:04 AM
What icon are you referring to?  And by the way, I just noticed that the version of Electrum shown appears to be 3.3.8.  I'm not sure if that jackass photoshopped anything, but I'm betting he copy/pasted that pic into his listing.  I'm also wondering if you ordered one of these things if you'd even get any Electrum software on the cheap stick.

When you connect a hardware wallet, you will get a small icon indicating that the seed is for the hardware wallet and not on your device.

This figure indicates that the seeds are on your device. If you look at the image in the product, you will realize that the hardware wallet is not connected.
this scammer does not know anything about hardware wallets.
1155  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: unauthorized transactions on: August 07, 2023, 10:14:04 AM
Did you make this transaction or does this address belong to you https://www.blockchain.com/es/explorer/transactions/btc/a782f2df7a94bb1f48886117c8661d8a78a274c510df5e36f6bdf007e55d6078 What is the amount withdrawn compared to the amount you have?

Do you have more than one wallet on the same device, and are you sure that you verify signature when you updated the wallet? Because the legacy addresses is not a default option in new versions.

You have to assume the worst case which mean you need to save your wallet seed offline, reinstall the operating system, install a new wallet, transfer coins to it and make sure that no one knows new seed password or accesses your computer.

There are only a few CEXs that provide a legacy deposit address so it is easy to find out which CEX provides this address https://www.blockchain.com/es/explorer/addresses/btc/1NNGETjxDw7U2aTd5E5MYeBhBUKMyBUW9A (there is a good possibility that this is the address of a CEX) and from there You can specify whether it is a hacker or a person from your country.
1156  Other / Off-topic / Re: Some of my Favourite Personal Texts of Bitcointalk Members on: August 04, 2023, 01:09:40 PM
How did you manage to collect all these personal texts? It is difficult to notice them, and I did not know that many people use them to write thoughts expressing themselves instead of renting them. I will try to find a useful quote.

Regarding personal text. Is a referral code base link can be allowed to put there? Example arkham airdrop link then will hyperlink it to the text. Or does someone doing this? Would this be allowed since posting on threads as far as I know is prohibited and considered as spam messages.
Referral links are prohibited except in your signature or in the formulation of a useful topic next to a direct link to the site and leave the option to the reader to choose which link to click without spam.
1157  Economy / Economics / Re: Are short-term rentals to blame for the lack of housing? on: August 04, 2023, 12:59:30 PM
In my country and the place where I live now, the situation is much better. There are various options for rent, which start from $ 300 per room and reach an average of $ 700. You can find suitable housing for a small family for $ 2,000, while the average salary is about $ 6,000 per month.
Therefore, a young man and a newly married man can rent a suitable space for his family, but finding a large space is the problem, as most of the dwellings are one or two rooms and are not suitable for forming a family.
You can find larger areas in the countryside for the same price, but this means losing 4 hours of your day due to traffic and distance.
1158  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: can we send bitcoin to ip addresses? on: August 04, 2023, 12:36:15 PM
Hence, Hal Finney transaction could just be using Pay-To-IP.

It appears to have been working for a while, as it was removed from Bitcoin Core v0.8.0 Bitcointalk pull request Github https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/1904

After a little research, they even tried to add the IP address next to the Bitcoin address, or domain name and SSL cert. I don't know if these ideas were applied, but their idea is more like routers between IPV4 and IPV6.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=158.msg1322#msg1322

Based on some comments, it seems that this feature was used, but I don't know if it was with the domain name and bitcoin address or just for the IP address.
1159  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: $20M stolen by "Zero Transfer Scam" phishing trick on: August 04, 2023, 12:10:39 PM
Zero Transfer Scam is one of the most common fraud cases on the Ethereum blockchain and I am surprised why explorers/wallets did not try to update their codes to give alerts to users or at least not to show these addresses as it is easy to hide any transaction with a balance of less than $0.1 and thus make the success rate like this Zero fraud.

In conclusion: everyone should be vigilant and not rush before sending any transaction and not rely on the addresses of previous transactions in the transactions history. Lose 20 seconds of your time and copy the correct address from its correct place instead of losing 20 million in a blink of an eye.

Either this user is too rich and too careless to avoid verifying the address or at least sending a small amount for testing or this is a case of tax evasion.

Who the hell sends 20M to an address they copied from wallet history or blockchain explorer? According to the tweet, it is supposedly a "very experienced crypto operator," whatever the hell that means.
This is what makes me question the story. Rich can't make beginner mistakes in this way. Not to mention being a "very experienced crypto operator."
1160  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: One of the worst examples of a "HW wallet" on ebay I've ever seen on: August 04, 2023, 11:53:00 AM
You like to search for hardware wallets from third sources, the last time was Amazon and now eBay, no matter how low the price of these devices is, buying HW from a third party who may tampering the components which considered dangerous, and mostly whoever buys the hardware wallet stores large amounts, so ~$ 100 on average It is cheap.

This user is scammer, when you connect the hardware wallet to electrum wallet, a small icon appears next to the green button, it does not exist in this screen shot, which means that the hardware wallet is not connected and that this user does not know anything about bitcoin.
He needs to improve his Photoshop skills.
