1141  Economy / Economics / Re: Marketing Strategies in the Digital Age on: October 31, 2023, 01:52:11 PM
As a business person, for you to remain relevant in this age, you will need to accept the technological changes that have taken place in businesses and the change in marketing strategy.

You can't successfully run a good business at the moment without at least having a site where you advertise your product either via your WhatsApp status or your Facebook page.

Gone are those days when you expect to have customers only from your neighborhood, the changes in technology have helped to a very large extent ineffective marking and increased visibility of your business.
1142  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / The expensive carelessness of the police in our interstate border on: October 31, 2023, 09:48:43 AM
It's a very sad situation that we've gotten to a point where we've accepted so many wrong practices in our society and we just get used to it with time neglecting the danger that awaits us as a result of our carelessness.

We are in a situation where the police have reduced themselves so low that the only thing they are interested in is to extort money from drivers on the road and look for youths they will abuse just to extort money from them.

I normally don't allow their unguided activity within the state to bother me that much but when I look at what is happening in our interstate borders, I can't just hold back on how disgusting it is and the possibility that our borders with another country might be facing similar situations.

You find a situation where police that is supposed to safeguard travelers and ensure that illegal stuff is not brought into the state focus just on the  2h they will take from drivers and once the driver gives them the money, they allow him to pass without conducting any reasonable search on the vehicle and passengers.

And you will see regular steeling happening on the same road with nothing less than 20 checkpoints. There are times you will get to some checkpoint and the police will be the one telling you that robbery is happening at the front and that you should wait. It's a shame.

I had an experience where one of them was telling one of our fellow passengers to give him money so he would not search the man. Some will even search only the males and allow the females to remain in the vehicle, abi na only males de carry illegal stuff? Even during the covid when the borders were ordered to be locked, the only thing they started doing was to increase The amount of money one pays at each checkpoint to 500h and then they would allow you to freely pass to another state.

Sadly, we take serious matters for granted in this country. Mind you, this is my personal experience in our interstate borders, I haven't gone to our borders with other countries but if this is what is obtainable there, then we are in a very big mess.
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe I should have taken this risk earlier. on: October 31, 2023, 06:25:47 AM
When planning to make any investment, it should come from a well-thought-out process or you run into a loss that could have been easily avoided.

From your analogy, I don't feel that it is necessary to invest the money your parents saved up for your education knowing fully well that there is a chance, no matter how slim it is, for the investment to yield a loss.

Also, note that it would be best to invest your savings so that if for any reason anything goes wrong, you will learn your lesson and re-strategize better without hurting anyone in the process.

Education is also a serious investment and according to your post, you have bearly a few months before starting, so why the rush? Face your studies and try making some passive savings that way, you can take your time to study the market and invest positively.

This one na serious matter oh
If i use 4h buy card from the local vendor, i go see am as big deal but I fit recharge 1k asap from bank  I no go even reason am like that.

I think the convenience of recharging easily using ussd or bank apps de blind fold us to the reality that we are being unguided with our spending.

But the truth be say e don tey when I buy physical recharge card and for those of us that use it to do more of subscription that calls, e no really make any difference. As long as we fit easily recharge our phone no matter the time of the day, do our sub, continue our work, then we are good to go.

1149  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Nigerian parents and spirituality. on: October 30, 2023, 05:02:07 PM
The reason why most people attribute their challenge to being spiritual rather than a medical abnormality Is because of the kind of society we find ourselves in. There are so many cases of individuals who suddenly develop mental disorders with no clue about the cause and that will normally warrant the guardian of the person to term it spiritual.

What I normally advise people in a situation like a sudden mental shift is that they admit the victim in a health facility while praying or believing for healing from whatever God they believe in.

I don't know if it's only in this part of the world but from what I have seen, it's becoming very difficult to find someone who had a great bond with his father while growing up.

I understand that the father is the breadwinner of the home and that this demands that he work very hard to provide for the financial needs of the family. I also know that because of the nature of most work our fathers do, it doesn't give them that much chance to become available for the emotional, psychological, and the rendering of certain discipline to their children, but I think this shouldn't be enough reason why they will not bond with their kids once in a while.

I grew up in a house where my dad was always busy with work to the point where we only see him three times a year and because he feels he has been sending money across for upkeep, he doesn't seem bothered that the kids have missed the role of a father in there lives.

I also know so many youths that we grew up together that had similar and some, worse off experiences growing up with their parents, and now that we've grown and some of us have started a family of our own, some have started repeating this circle in their homes.

How do we balance the part of providing finance for the home and the responsibility of being there for our children as a father?

Abi  if we de provide for the financial need of our homes, e mean to say we don fulfill our role as fathers?

1153  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Why we too de abuse moments of celebration? on: October 23, 2023, 07:18:27 PM
When we experience better thing, e de make sense to celebrate am but most time d manner most people de use celebrate am no de too make sense like that.

Because say your wife born pikin, you go Buy drinks, invite people and una go drink to serious highness come start to misbehave. Some go even fight and wound themselves In the process.

Some go write there final exams for school, all in the name of celebration de go over speed there cars come course accident and some of them go die in the process.

E get one valentine period for my community when boys carry there banies go party for the valentine celebration. before you know, dem don drink enter highness levels begin fight themselves with machetes and before that day finish, wetin start as celebration don turn full blown community war.

The instances plenty concerning how we de take abuse moments of celebration but I just wan yarn us say as we de in the spirit of celebration, make we no use am wonjor ourselves. It is not out of place to celebrate, especially when the event is a remarkable one in our lives but it's best we moderate it so our celebration doesn't turn out to sorrows in the end.

As the year de draw to a close, make we celebrate and in the same spirit, make we do am responsibly. I trowe salute give una.
1154  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / The pressure to last long in bed and the increased use of manpower drugs on: October 20, 2023, 08:25:09 PM
When it comes to the topic of how long a man should last in bed, I think social media and adult sites have painted a very wrong narrative regarding this thereby putting unnecessary pressure on an average man who will be willing to go to any length just to meet up with the high expectation of people on how long one is to last in bed.

Most social media ads and advert is now centered on selling energizing drugs that will boost how long one lasts in bed and youths are seriously taking it at an alarming rate without considering the implication it will have on them in the future. The sad thing about most of these herbal drugs is that they have serious side effects both at the present and in the future of the user.

According to health practitioners, sex is supposed to last between the range of 3 to 15 minutes, and our youth have to understand that it is not a do-or-die affair, it is called love not a show of one's strength as a man

I strongly feel that the pressure that if you don't last up to a particular time, that you're not man enough is the reason why most persons have resolved into the use of energizing/ herbal drugs.

If una get wetin una wan yarn about this matter, make una yarn am.
1155  Other / Beginners & Help / Experience is key, go for it. on: October 19, 2023, 08:38:49 PM
No matter the amount of information you receive on this forum, if you don't practice and work on having a first-hand experience, you won't understand much.

Experience is key in everything we do and it plays a huge role in determining how successful we will become in that field.

Experienced traders know when to buy when to sell, and when to hodl. They also know how to manage any fluctuation in the market, This helps them to minimize losses and guides them to take reasonable risk.

As you choose either to trade, mine, or do what works best for you, don't forget to learn the fundamentals and apply them correctly. also learn how to start small and gradually, you learn on the job and with time your experience level should have grown and you can now start making a reasonably calculated risk.
1156  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / The igbo system of education vs the formal education on: October 19, 2023, 08:04:29 PM
I know that formal education has gained popularity to a very large extent, and it seems we've gotten used to it but, have you thought about how effective the IGBO system of education could become if it is properly polished and regulated?

By the IBO system of education, I mean, the process where you decide on what to specialize in, pay a certain amount to someone already in the field, and get to have a first-hand learning process and loads of experience because you are directly learning and working at the same time. It is what most Easterners call serving your master and after a particular year's, he frees you to start working on your own.

I feel it will encourage specialization (which is a key element to mastery)  and that the one-on-one learning condition will boast effective assimilation of what was taught.

If the relationship between the boss in charge of this training and the trainee can be monitored and regulated correctly, I feel it will contribute a lot to increasing technical and industrious individuals in our country.

1157  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / We were all indoctrinated on: October 18, 2023, 08:28:04 PM
Sometimes I sit back and ask myself some questions like;

What if I was born into a Muslim society, would I have been a Christian?

How is it that of all the religions in this world, I was born in an environment where a particular one was popular and I had to belong to that one, and every other person outside of my religion became a sinner awaiting condemnation?

And unfortunately, in the same way I was made to see the other folks outside my belief system as bad, they also look at me as bad because that's the image that has been painted in our minds by our religious leaders.

But here is the hard reality. If you were born in a Muslim family/community there is a 90% certainty that you will be a Muslim. And this applies to almost all the things we believe in.

Some of the practices we see others involved In and it irritate us to the born, if we grew up in such an environment where they are practiced, we would  do the same

I know we, Nigerians are very religious and will do anything it takes to protect our religious beliefs but then, lets know that we could have been at the other side of religious belief if we grew up there.

Lets serve our God the way he ask us to and allow others to do there's to the best of there  ability caus las las, all of us de worship wetin our elders past give us.

This thread is coming from a place of mutual acceptance and understanding of our differences in belief system which primarily is a function of our environment.

That you are a Muslim doesn't make the Christian, Hindu, juju person or one that practices certain supposed God bad or foolish to be doing so. Remember you will most likely worship the same God or have the same belief system if you grew up in the same environment.
1158  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Government job or private job? on: October 18, 2023, 06:58:57 PM
I think that the major determining factor here is how much either of the jobs will offer me.

If I can get a private job that pays double of what the government job offers, i will gladly choose the private job without a second thought about "life time employment" attached to the supposed government jobs

In the real sense, most private sectors pays higher and treat her employee better compared to the government  establishment.
1159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 18, 2023, 09:29:05 AM
In other words, from time to time we will analyze our position and our assets and we might even start to determine that we can change our strategy because we have accumulated enough BTC... whether that happens in 1-2 years or maybe it takes 15 years to 20 years, this will vary from person to person regarding how long it might take for the person to start to consider that s/he has enough and s/he can transition from accumulation stage to maintenance stage. and sure maybe the transition will not be 100% clear because even if someone is in maintenance stage they still might accumulate BTC from time to time, but not be so concerned about accumulation because overall such person has determined that s/he has gotten enough bitcoin.
Am being inquisitive right now. So your saying that there might be a time when one feels he has accumulated enough bitcoin and would decide to only maintain the Bitcoin  he has accumulated. I am aware of people saying that accumulating Bitcoin has been an obsession to them irrespective of the amount of Bitcoin they have they still accumulate as much of it as possible since they have the money to put it in. Assuming someone is obsessed is it something that is wrong or it is good especially in this present time?
If only I could Pm so you teach me your ways  Smiley
1160  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 17, 2023, 10:25:06 PM
Following the fake news of Bitcoin ETF approval by Cointelegraph yesterday that made Bitcoin price surge to around $30k, there was  someone that jumped into the market with with over $600k only to realize it was a fake news and the market started dumping and quickly sold. Do you now that within 10 minutes he lost over $49k. These are the people that Bitcoin is risky for... they want quick profit.
This is the type of investor who only targets news to accumulate Bitcoin and there are only two risks, namely if the news is fake then he will lose because the price will immediately fall but if the news is true then he will profit from the price increase. That's what is happening currently in the market, they can make quick losses and quick profits. But I don't really like following the style of buying instantly just for quick profits because it carries a greater risk to what we have planned.

I am more interested in accumulating gradually rather than aggressively because those of us who buy regularly will be more profitable at the level of buying at low prices compared to those who only refer to instant purchases when there is news. But if the buyer does not sell it immediately then he only loses in the fiat estimation, not in his Bitcoin ownership. And he can hold his Bitcoin holdings while waiting for the price to rise again.
The is true definition of gambling... expensive gambling for that matter because the pain came very fast, just within 10 minutes. Imagine investing that amount when Bitcoin dumped to the $16k region and holding it till now, that would have been a massive win for him. Unfortunately he want it so fast and it ended in tears. probably he is busy now spreading all kinds of FUD about Bitcoin as a way of venting his anger. Well, the market have a way of humbling anyone that want to beat the process of growth.

People forget that most of the Bitcoin millionaires are people who held for long... the time factor must be a constant to be able to maximize the opportunities offered by Bitcoin because there is no shortcut.

I was not unhappy having had purchased the extra BTC, but surely those extra BTC were bought at a higher price than they otherwise could have had been bought.

so I was not really able to buy the dip back down to $300 and any amount of BTC that I was able to buy in early 2016 was somewhat tempered by my having had used a decent amount of my available cash in November 2015.. even though I did have a bit of a cashflow during late 2015 and early 2016, so I was able to buy some more BTC around $400 before it went back above $500 in May 2016 and really did not ever again return below $500... bitcoin saved me from myself and my mistake, but ONLY because I was able to hodl through my mistake.

And I learned a lesson from that experience without actually getting reckt too badly in the process...
Quite an interesting story and experience you shared here with us I must thank you because i learnt something significant here that I know will help and change the way I go about my investment plan. I understand that It's not only about doing an investment just because you want to, it's about accumulating always even if the price is somewhat different form your speculated price as long as you can afford the gradually purchasing it is good. If you hadn't buy back your Bitcoin then in 2016 before the price skyrocket what would have been the faith of your Bitcoin portfolio now. Hoping for the next halving I am thinking to still accumulating after the halving. Hope it isn't a bad idea?
